Alkaline water electrolysis (AWE) is a key technology for scalable green hydrogen production. However, its widespread adoption is hampered by the anode's primary challenge—the slow kinetics of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). While transition metal-based materials can improve in activity through doping and morphology control, achieving long-term stability remains challenging. Doping with high-valence metals such as tungsten can modulate electronic structure, facilitate the formation of active high-valence iron, and improve OER activity. In this study, a W-doped FeCo catalyst supported on nickel foam (W–FeCo–NF) was fabricated via a two-stage hydrothermal method. The material showed an overpotential of 347 mV at 100 mA cm −2 (1 M KOH). Moreover, it demonstrated remarkable durability, maintaining stable operation for over 400 h at 200 mA cm −2 in the electrolyzer. This work offers a viable pathway to efficient, durable, and cost-effective OER electrocatalysts, contributing to the advancement of green hydrogen technologies.

Electrode materials typically suffer from an inherent trade-off between arc erosion resistance and electrical conductivity. In this work, Cu-10W composites containing of 0, 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 wt% graphene (Gr) was fabricated via near-net-shape hot isostatic pressing (HIP), and their microstructures and properties were systematically investigated. Among these composites, the Cu-10W-0.1Gr composite exhibited the most balanced performance, achieving a relative density of 98.57%, tensile strength of 317 MPa, elongation of 22.2%, and electrical conductivity of 87.6%IACS. Microstructural analysis revealed that the mechanical and electrical enhancements mainly originated from the dispersion strengthening induced by nano-sized W particles dispersed within the Cu matrix, combined with the optimization of the conductive network by Gr located at grain boundaries. Benefiting from the high electrical conductivity and low work function of Gr, under a 30 V DC and 35 A test condition, the addition of a 0.5wt.%Gr reduced mass loss and erosion rate by up to 24.0%, decreased average arc energy by up to 47.9%, effectively suppressed welding force, and maintained stable contact resistance. This work mitigates the longstanding strength-conductivity dilemma in Cu-based electrode materials, and provides a viable design strategy for high-performance electrical contact composites.

Tungsten (W) is regarded as a key candidate material for extreme service environments. However, its relatively high ductile-to-brittle transition temperature (DBTT) and rapid grain growth at elevated temperatures have long restricted its engineering applications. In present work, an integrated route combining bottom‑up and top‑down approaches was employed. Ultrafine W-1 wt.% La 2 O 3 powders were synthesized via a novel carbothermic pre-reduction followed by hydrogen deep deoxidation process. Subsequent hydrogen pre-sintering and spark plasma sintering (SPS) enabled rapid densification and controlled deformation at a relatively low temperature, producing a fine-grained W alloy (0.77 μm) with distinct substructural features. Nanoscale La 2 O 3 particles were uniformly distributed throughout the matrix. During high-pressure SPS, the formation of a weak γ-fiber texture ({111}//ND) promoted cooperative activity among multiple {111} 〈110〉 primary slip systems. La 2 O 3 particles located at grain boundaries effectively suppressed boundary migration through Zener pinning, while intragranular nanoparticles coordinated dislocation motion via combined Orowan bypassing and shearing mechanisms. The multiscale structural synergy enabled a favorable strength-ductility balance between 200 and 600 °C. The alloy exhibits noticeable plastic deformation at 200 °C, with distinct yielding (972.3 MPa) and uniform strain‑hardening behavior. This study elucidates the coupling among grain refinement strengthening, Orowan strengthening and dislocation forest hardening, thus providing a new design strategy for achieving high-temperature microstructural stability and mechanical reliability in W alloys.

The development of lightweight, low-cost, and high-performance non-precious metal electrocatalytic electrodes is critical to advancing the practical implementation of methanol and urea oxidation reactions (MOR and UOR) in next-generation energy conversion systems. Herein, we reported a facile synthesis of a W-Se co-modified porous Ni/Cu paper electrode (W-NiSe/Cup) via synchronous pulse electrodeposition onto filter paper-derived porous Cu foil. The hierarchical porosity and high specific surface area originated from the paper template, while synergistic electronic modulation among Ni, W, and Se enhanced intrinsic catalytic activity. At 0.8 V, the W-NiSe/Cupelectrode delivered current densities of 298 mA·cm−2(MOR) and 305 mA·cm−2(UOR) with a lower-mass loading, representing 1.29-fold and 1.34-fold enhancements over the Ni/Cupelectrode. Furthermore, the electrode exhibited exceptional durability: under chronopotentiometry operation at 100 mA·cm−2in a 6-fold-concentrated electrolyte (6 M KOH + 3.0 M CH3OH + 1.98 M CO(NH2)2), the operating potentials retained 95.74% (MOR) and 118.05% (UOR) of their initial values after 9 h. This study offers a novel strategy for designing lightweight non-precious metal catalytic electrodes for portable energy devices and also verifies the broad potential of biomass templates in constructing advanced energy electrocatalytic materials.

Emulsions stabilized by normal starch-based emulsifier could be easily digested for fat absorption. In this study, a novel design of resistant starch-based emulsifier (RSE) is expected to be a promising strategy in reducing fat digestibility . Waxy corn starch (WCS) was used to prepare RS by pullulanase debranching, and then RS was esterified with different hydrophobic agents of octenyl succinic anhydride (OSA) and dodecenyl succinate anhydride (DDSA) to prepare OSA/DDAS modified RSE (OSA-R and DDSA-R). The structure and emulsification properties of OSA-R and DDSA-R were comprehensively investigated. The results showed that RS content of WCS was increased from 0.17% to 35.52% by pullulanase debranching and then RS contents of OSA-R (37.53%) and DDSA-R (42.18%) could be further increased by OSA/DDSA modifications. Moreover, both OSA-R and DDSA-R stabilized emulsions were stable under neutral and alkaline conditions and were of good quality within 10 days of storage at 4 °C. Compared with OSA-R stabilized emulsion, DDSA-R stabilized emulsion had higher acid stability, CaCl 2 stability and storage stability. Furthermore, in vitro digestion study demonstrated that both OSA-R and DDSA-R stabilized emulsions exhibited strong resistance against digestion. In conclusion, two high resistant starch-based emulsifiers obtained by OSA/DDAS modifications could be used for stabilizing oil-in-water emulsions, which provide important references for the selection of RSE esterification agents and the application of RS in food industry.

Catalytic upcycling of polyolefin (PO) waste into liquid fuels represents a promising strategy for closing the carbon loop but remains challenged by the reliance on noble-metal catalysts and the generation of low-value gaseous byproducts. Here we report a non-noble metal bifunctional catalyst, Ni–W/ZrO2, featuring Ni metal sites for (de)hydrogenation and WOx acid sites for C–C bond cleavage and isomerization. The catalyst enables complete conversion of low-density polyethylene (LDPE, Mw = 96.4 kDa, Đ = 4.6) under mild conditions (250 °C, 3 MPa H2) within 10 h, affording a high liquid fuel yield of 75.6 wt%. The liquid products are dominated by branched alkanes (C5–C20) with a branching index of 85.6%, affording a high research octane number of 88.9, which is comparable to that of commercial gasoline (86.6). Compared to existing non-noble metal systems, Ni–W/ZrO2 exhibits superior catalytic activity and effectively suppresses methane formation. Mechanistic analyses reveal the generation of partially electropositive Ni species that promote C–H bond activation. The catalyst also demonstrates excellent durability over five consecutive cycles and broad compatibility with various polyolefin wastes, providing a cost-effective and scalable strategy for sustainable plastic waste valorization.

The slow kinetics of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) significantly limit the performance and broader applications of zinc-air batteries. To address this, a series of M-N-C catalysts were synthesized using W,O-doped ZIF-67 as a precursor. By modifying the surface electronic structure through doping and improving oxygen intermediate adsorption, these catalysts demonstrated excellent bifunctional catalytic activities for OER and ORR. Among them, W,O-CoNC700 achieved the half-wave potential and overpotential of 0.81 V and 359 mV, respectively. DFT calculations revealed that doping with W atoms affected the d-band center of the Co site, thus enhancing its catalytic ability. The maximum power density of a W,O-CoNC700-based zinc-air battery reached 174.8 mW/cm², outperforming the commercial Pt/C + IrO₂ catalysts. Under constant current discharge at 5 and 10 mA/cm², the cell maintained 1100 and 450 h, respectively.

Tungsten powder is an essential raw material for producing tungsten carbide powders and tungsten-based alloys. However, the fabrication of high-performance spherical tungsten powders remains costly, and achieving a uniform distribution of doped elements poses significant challenges. In this study, a molecularly homogeneous W-Cr precursor solution was prepared using soluble salts, namely ammonium metatungstate ((NH 4 ) 6 [H 2 W 12 O 40 ]·xH 2 O)) and ammonium chromate ((NH 4 ) 2 CrO 4 ). Near-spherical W-Cr 2 O 3 composite powders with various Cr doping contents were synthesized through spray drying, calcination, and low-temperature hydrogen reduction. Subsequently, WC-10Co-xCr cemented carbides were fabricated via spark plasma sintering (SPS) following carburization. The effects of reduction temperature and Cr content on the morphology and phase composition of the W-Cr 2 O 3 composite powders were systematically examined. In addition, the influence of Cr doping on the mechanical properties of the cemented carbides was preliminarily evaluated. The results reveal that, at a reduction temperature of 900 °C and a Cr doping level of 0.5 wt%, the W-Cr 2 O 3 composite powders exhibit a uniform near-spherical morphology with fine and consistent particle sizes. The corresponding cemented carbide demonstrates superior overall performance. Furthermore, the Cr element is uniformly dispersed throughout the WO 3 precursor, W-Cr 2 O 3 composite powders, and the final alloy matrix.

The removal of naphthalene is important but deficient, so that the available V-W/Ti catalysts (1.0 wt% V 2 O 5 /TiO 2 ) were prepared for its efficient abatement in this work. Especially, influences of different existence status of vanadium species on naphthalene elimination were investigated via changing the pH value of precursor solution. With the increase of precursor solution acidity, more highly polymeric vanadium species were formed on the catalyst surface. The redox capability was enhanced markedly as a consequence of the stronger electron transfer between V/W and Ti that induced more surface active oxygen and V 5+ , whereas the catalytic activity was obviously boosted and almost 90 % conversion of naphthalene was achieved at 293 °C. Moreover, the weaker chemisorption between naphthalene and V-W/Ti catalyst allowed the deeper conversion to CO x . GC–MS manifested that naphthalene seemed to be an organic component that was difficult to be totally degraded. Naphthalene oxidation was in the following pathway of naphthalene → 1,4-naphthoquinone → phthalic anhydride → phthalates → benzene → benzoquinone → maleic anhydride → CO x /H 2 O. The opening of aromatic ring in phthalic anhydride and benzene ring in benzene were proven to be the rate-controlling step based on in-situ DRIFTS results. The key of naphthalene oxidation was the complete degradation of various intermediates.

In this study, three different types of O/W emulsions were prepared by dispersing 20 wt% soybean oil in aqueous continuous phases, consisting 4 wt % SPI and 0.5 wt% polysaccharide (pectin, iota carrageenan , or kappa carrageenan) composition. The emulsions were heated to thermal denaturation temperature of SPI (90 °C, 30 min), and their rheology, microstructure, and particle size was deeply examined and compared with unheated systems. The results showed that the shear stress, viscosity, shear modulus, and the droplet size of heated emulsions were higher than those of unheated systems. This behavior suggested that thermal treatment exposes the positively charged and hydrophobic regions of SPI in acidic medium (pH 4), which allowed to attach the anionic polysaccharide strongly by electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions, especially in SPI-kappa carrageenan emulsion. This study may be useful for the creation of highly viscous O/W products having higher rheology and stability, but reduced total fat contents.

Highly efficient green/yellowish-orange phosphors with low thermal quenching behavior are urgently required to improve the luminescence efficiency, color stability, and color rendering of phosphor-converted white light emitting diodes (w-LEDs). Herein, a novel green Cs 2 BaP 2 O 7 :0.01Eu 2+ phosphor with high luminescence efficiency (82.7%) and thermal quenching behavior (92.5% at 423 K) is reported. Besides, a further luminescence improvement in the quantum yield (98.9%) and thermal quenching resistance (120% at 448 K) is successfully achieved in green/yellowish-orange color-tunable Cs 2 MP 2 O 7 :0.01Eu 2+ (M = Ba, Sr, and Ca) phosphors. Surprisingly, these green/yellowish-orange Cs 2 MP 2 O 7 :0.01Eu 2+ (M = Ba, Sr, and Ca) phosphors even have a prior advantage over the commercial green β-SiAlON:Eu 2+ and yellow YAG:Ce 3+ phosphors. The corresponding spectral adjustment and thermal stability mechanisms are revealed, related to the optimization of local lattice symmetry. The prototype w-LEDs exhibit warm white light with CIE color coordinate at (0.337, 0.322). The color rendering index, corrected color temperature, and luminescence efficiency can reach 92.6, 4044 K, and 152.56 lm W −1 , respectively. In general, the as-reported green/yellowish-orange Eu 2+ -doped pyrophosphate phosphors are promising candidates in the future high-quality w-LEDs applications. The proposal of local lattice symmetry modulation can provide a new approach to exploit novel phosphors with excellent thermal quenching resistance.

One of the most effective methods of utilizing CH 4 and CO 2 resources is the dry reforming of methane (DRM). However, the small particle size and the metal-support interactions of Ni–W bimetallic catalysts are key factors affecting activity and carbon deposition . This article evaluates the effect of Ni–W bimetallic catalysts synthesized by different preparation methods on their catalytic performance in DRM reactions. The results show that the bimetallic catalyst prepared by the solid-state grinding method exhibits excellent catalytic performance and anti-carbon deposition performance. The conversion rate of CH 4 and CO 2 remain unchanged during 1450 min, which is 58% and 66%, respectively. Through various characterization methods, it has been proven that the bimetallic catalyst prepared by the solid-state grinding method effectively reduces the size of Ni particles and increases the number of exposed active sites. In addition, this method also enhances the metal-support interactions, which helps to improve the stability of the catalyst.
