A novel monazite-type high entropy (La 1/7 Ce 1/7 Pr 1/7 Nd 1/7 Sm 1/7 Eu 1/7 Gd 1/7 )PO 4 (HE (7RE 1/7 )PO 4 ) designed for the thermal/environmental barrier coatings (T/EBCs) material of Al 2 O 3 f /Al 2 O 3 ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) has been firstly prepared and comprehensively characterized in this work. HE (7RE 1/7 )PO 4 with a homogeneous rare-earth element distribution exhibits good high-temperature stability up to 1750 °C and good chemical compatibility with Al 2 O 3 up to 1600 °C in air. The thermal expansion coefficient (TEC) of HE (7RE 1/7 )PO 4 (9.48 ×10 −6 /°C) is close to that of Al 2 O 3 f /Al 2 O 3 CMCs (9.0 ×10 −6 /°C) at room temperature to 900 °C. Moreover, HE strategy effectively reduces the thermal conductivity of HE (7RE 1/7 )PO 4 (2.42 W·m −1 ·K −1 to 1.14 W·m −1 ·K −1 from room temperature to 1000 °C) in comparison with those of single-component REPO 4 with the average values of 3.15 W·m −1 ·K −1 and 1.56 W·m −1 ·K −1 . These good comprehensive properties allow HE (7RE 1/7 )PO 4 to become a promising T/EBCs material for Al 2 O 3 f /Al 2 O 3 CMCs in the future.

The increasing demand and limited natural resources for rare precious metal palladium render its separation and recovery from secondary sources such as acidic nuclear liquid waste greatly interesting. Herein, a novel Et-Tol-DAPhen extraction resin was prepared by impregnating Amberlite XAD-7 resin with a phenanthroline-derived diamide extractant N , N ′-diethyl- N , N ′-ditolyl-2,9-diamide-1,10-phenanthroline (Et-Tol-DAPhen), and the adsorption behavior of this new extraction resin towards Pd 2+ in HNO 3 solution was investigated through the batch and column experiments. The Et-Tol-DAPhen extraction resin exhibited strong adsorbability, high adsorption capacity, excellent selectivity and good reusability for Pd 2+ in highly acidic HNO 3 solution. In addition, the pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models were applied to understand the adsorption process of Pd 2+ on Et-Tol-DAPhen extraction resin, respectively. It demonstrated the characteristics of a uniform single-layer chemisorption . The maximum uptake capacity could reach as high as 74.6 mg g − 1 for Pd 2+ in 3.0 mol/L HNO 3 solution which is much higher than most adsorbent materials of palladium reported before. Furthermore, Et-Tol-DAPhen extraction resin could selectively uptake Pd 2+ from a simulated acidic nuclear waste solution containing 20 different kinds of ions with the separation factor SF Pd/M values as high as 100 to 10,000. Moreover, although the adsorption efficiency had a slight decrease after 5 times of adsorption-desorption process, it still remained at a high level. This new extraction resin displayed a potential application prospect in the field of separation and recovery of Pd 2+ from acidic nuclear liquid waste .

The olefin epoxidation reaction is of great interest in recent years since epoxide is considered an important intermediate for a wide application range. H2O2-based catalytic epoxidation possesses the advantages of being cheap, green, and safe, which are quite advantageous in chemical technology. A phase-transfer catalyst, especially the phosphotungstate catalyst, has been applied in the epoxidation reaction with a high reaction rate and moderate reaction conditions. In this work, a phase-transfer catalyst, [(C18H37)2(CH3)2N]7[PW11O39], has been synthesized, and it showed high catalytic efficiency in styrene epoxidation. The influence of reaction time, temperature, oxidant concentration and amount, catalyst amount, and substrate concentration on the reaction performance was studied. A styrene conversion of 90.1% and selectivity of 90.6% could be achieved at 85 °C for 1 h with 3 equiv of H2O2 and 1.5 mol % catalyst. More importantly, kinetic models for the reaction network have been studied to optimize the reaction conditions and limit the side reactions.

A novel bionic enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (BELISA) based on double-antibody sandwich method is firstly designed for the detection of carbamazepine (CBZ) in human serum samples. In this BELISA system, cucurbit[7]uril (CB[7]) is employed as an artificial capture antibody (cAb), and molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) is used as an artificial detection antibody (dAb). Nanozymes (PdNPs) as signal generators are integrated with MIPs. This couple of bionic antibodies exhibits not only the excellent physical and chemical stability, but also the superior molecular recognition ability. Based on two bionic antibodies that can selectively recognize different sites of CBZ molecule, a new BELISA method has been constructed for the first time. The proposed BELISA method displays a good linear relationship ranging from 2 to 20 μg mL -1 . The detection limit is 0.37 μg mL -1 , which can well meet clinical testing demand. It provides a more stable and economical method for clinical therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM).

Fenton reaction is extensively used in wastewater treatment to produce •OH, which can be used to remove organic pollutants excellently. However, the greatest issue of the process is the low efficiency of Fe2+/Fe3+ conversion cycle and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) decomposition rate (<30%). In this study, molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) was used as a co-catalyst in Fenton system to accelerate the oxidation of acid orange 7 (AO7) dye. The enhanced removal efficiency was attributed to that the unsaturated S atoms on the surface of MoS2 could capture the protons in solutions and turn into H2S, exposing the active sites with reducibility and accelerating the conversion of Fe2+/Fe3+. A high degradation rate of 98% was obtained in 30 min under the optimal conditions of AO7 concentration 100 mg/L, MoS2 6 g/L, FeSO4·7H2O 50 mg/L, H2O2 concentration 1.5 mmol/L, and pH 3.5. Furthermore, the degradation pathway and mechanism of AO7 were thoroughly discussed. The toxicity of the intermediates during the degradation progress slightly increased initially, which then decreased to nontoxicity. MoS2 can keep stable, which can maintain high AO7 removal efficiency even after being reused for seven times. Moreover, the obtained results provide a theoretical basis and guidance for the application of inorganic co-catalyst in practical wastewater remediation applications.

MoS 2 /C@SiO 2 spheres were successfully synthesized by a one-step hydrothermal method using silica as the template, sodium molybdate as the Mo source and glucose as the carbon precursor. In this paper, the antitumor ability of MoS 2 /C@SiO 2 and C@SiO 2 nanospheres was evaluated through the photothermal effect induced by near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and the drug loading and release behaviors of the model drug doxorubicin (DOX). The photothermal conversion efficiency (η) of MoS 2 /C@SiO 2 of 42.5% was 1.2 times that of C@SiO 2 (34.7%), which indicated its significant photothermal effect. The drug loading of MoS 2 /C@SiO 2 of 46.5% was much higher than that of C@SiO 2 (12.4%); it was 3.75 times that of C@SiO 2 . The cumulative drug release of MoS 2 /C@SiO 2 and C@SiO 2 under a simulated acidic tumor environment and NIR irradiation was 58.9% and 27.29%, respectively. Moreover, the cell viability assays verified that MoS 2 /C@SiO 2 -DOX had excellent antitumor ability under the co-stimulation of endogenous (pH) and exogenous (NIR) compared with C@SiO 2 -DOX. The experimental results showed that the survival rate of cancer cells in MoS 2 /C@SiO 2 -DOX under coordinated treatment was only 19.4%, while that of C@SiO 2 -DOX was 24.6%.

In this work, we reported the preparation of the hollow zeolitic imidazolate framework-7 (ZIF-7) via etching ZIF-7 with tannic acid , and further fabricated the hollow ZIF-7 coated fiber for the solid phase microextraction (SPME) of the five volatile biomarkers (acetone, isopropanol, hexanal , hexanol and decanal) generated from breast cancer cell lines. The hollow structure not only endowed higher extraction performance for the SPME of analytes, but also improved the diffusion rate of the analytes inside the hollow ZIF-7. Under the optimal conditions, the hollow ZIF-7 coated fiber offered high extraction capacity (25–153 mg g −1 ) and enhancement factors (EFs, 2023–11250) for the five biomarkers, good linearity (R 2 > 0.9918) of acetone and isopropanol (2.5–500 μg L −1 ) and hexanol, hexanal, and decanal (1.0–100 μg L −1 ), low limits of detection (S/N = 3) of 0.07–0.53 μg L −1 and the limit of quantifications (LOQs, S/N = 10) of 0.23–1.76 μg L −1 . The precisions (RSDs, %) for intra-day (n = 6), inter-day (n = 5) and fiber-to-fiber (n = 6) were 2.8–7.5%, 4.3–8.5%, and 4.2–14.6%, respectively. The high EFs of the hollow ZIF-7 coated fiber for the five biomarkers resulted from the integrated effects of the large surface area, the unique porous structure, hydrophobic interaction, gate-opening effect, and enhanced properties after etching including faster mass transport, multiple active components, and more exposed active sites. The fabricated hollow ZIF-7 coated fiber lasted at least 140 cycles of extraction/desorption/aging without obvious decrease of extraction ability and no change of crystal structure. Finally, the hollow ZIF-7 coated fiber combined with GC-FID had been successfully used to detect the five biomarkers in the headspace gas of human breast cancer cell lines (MDA-MB-231) and normal mammary cell lines (CCD-1095Sk) with the recoveries of 84–105%. These results revealed the prospect of hollow MOFs as efficient adsorbents for sample pretreatment .

Alginate-poloxamer (ALG-POL) copolymer with optimal POL content was synthesized, and it was combined with silk fibroin (SF) for building ALG-POL/SF dual network hydrogels. Hyaluronic acid(HA)/chitosan-poly(dioxanone)(CH-PDO) complex nanoparticles (NPs) with optimized composition and high encapsulation efficiency were employed as a vehicle for loading bone morphogenic protein-7 (BMP-7). BMP-7-loaded HA/CH-PDO NPs were incorporated into ALG-POL/SF hydrogel for constructing composite gels to achieve controlled release of BMP-7. These gels showed thermosensitive sol-gel transitions near physiological temperature and pH; and they were tested to be elastic, tough and strong. Some gels exhibited abilities to administer the BMP-7 release in nearly linear manners for a few weeks. Synovium-derived mesenchymal stem cells (SMSCs) were seeded into optimally fabricated gels for assessing their chondrogenic differentiation potency. Real-time PCR analyses showed that the blank ALG-POL/SF gels were not able to induce the chondrogenic differentiation of SMSCs, whereas SMSCs were detected to significantly express cartilage-related genes once they were seeded in the BMP-7-loaded ALG-POL/SF gel for two weeks. The synthesis of cartilaginous matrix components further confirmed that SMSCs seeded in the BMP-7-loaded ALG-POL/SF gel differentiated toward chondrogenesis. Results suggest that BMP-7-loaded ALG-POL/SF composite gels can function as a promising biomaterial for cartilage tissue engineering applications. Keywords:dual network hydrogel;complex nanoparticles;bone morphogenic protein-7;chondrogenic differentiation;synovium-derived mesenchymal stem cells

Ethnopharmacological relevance The diterpenoids extracted from Euphorbia kansui S.L. Liou ex S.B.Ho, Euphorbia fischeriana Steud. have good antitumor effects. Jolkinolide B has anti-breast cancer effect, but it is unclear whether it has different therapeutic effects between luminal A subtype and luminal B subtype breast cancer. Aim of the study This study investigated the Jolkinolide B has different therapeutic, important targets and pathways effects between luminal A subtype and luminal B subtype breast cancer. Materials and methods We used bioinformatics to predict the biological process and molecular mechanism of Jolkinolide B in treating two types of breast cancer. Then, in vitro, cultured MCF-7 cells and BT-474 cells were divided into control group, PI3K inhibitor + control group, Jolkinolide B group and PI3K inhibitor + Jolkinolide B group. The CCK-8 assay, Flow cytometric analysis and Transwell cell migration assay was used to detect the cell proliferation, apoptosis, and migration in each group, respectively. ELISA was used to measure the content of Akt and phosphorylated Akt (p-Akt) in cell lysis buffer. Results Compared to luminal A breast cancer, Jolkinolide B had more targets, proliferation, migration processes and KEGG pathways when treating luminal B subtype breast cancer. Jolkinolide B significantly prolonged the survival time of luminal B subtype breast cancer patients. Compared to the control group, the cell proliferation absorbance value (A value) and migration number of the two kinds of breast cancer cells in the Jolkinolide B group were decreased ( P < 0.01, n = 6), and the number of apoptotic cells was increased ( P < 0.01, n = 6). Compared to the Jolkinolide B group, the A value and migration number of the two types of breast cancer cells were significantly decreased in the PI3K inhibitor + Jolkinolide B group ( P < 0.01, n = 6), and the number of apoptotic cells was significantly increased ( P < 0.01, n = 6). In addition, compared to MCF-7 cells, the A value and migration number of BT-474 cells stimulated with Jolkinolide B were significantly decreased ( P < 0.01, n = 6), and the number of apoptotic cells was significantly increased ( P < 0.01, n = 6). Akt and p-Akt protein levels in the two breast cancer cell lines in the Jolkinolide B group were all decreased ( P < 0.01, n = 6), especially in BT-474 cells stimulated by Jolkinolide B. Conclusion Jolkinolide B regulates the luminal A and luminal B subtypes of breast cancer through PI3K-Akt, EGFR and other pathways. Jolkinolide B has more significant therapeutic effect on luminal B subtype breast cancer. In vitro, experiments verified that Jolkinolide B significantly inhibited the proliferation and migration activity of BT-474 breast cancer cells by downregulating the PI3K-Akt pathway.

Background Baicalein, a natural flavonoid derived from traditional Chinese herb Scutellaria baicalensis Georg (known as Huang Qin in Chinese), has been reported to exhibit notable antitumor activity in various cancer cells, including breast cancer. However, the detailed mechanisms underlying its induced apoptosis as a prooxidant in breast cancer cells are still unknown. Materials and methods In this study, we investigated the effect of endogenous copper on cytotoxic activity of baicalin against human breast cancer MCF-7 cells in vitro. Results Baicalein could remarkably reduce the cell viability in both dose- and time-dependent manners in MCF-7 cells but with lower cytotoxic effects on normal breast epithelial cells, MCF-10A. Such cell death could be prevented by pretreatment with Cu (I)-specific chelator neocuproine (Neo) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavengers. Meanwhile, baicalein could induce MCF-7 cell morphological changes, promote apoptotic cell death and increase the apoptotic cell number. Moreover, DCHF-DA staining, flow cytometry and Western blotting analyses proved that baicalein triggered the mitochondrial-dependent apoptotic pathway, as indicated by enhancement the level of intracellular ROS, disruption of mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm), downregulation of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2, upregulation of pro-apoptotic protein Bax, release of cytochrome C and activation of caspase-9 and caspase-3 in MCF-7 cells. The pretreatment with Neo remarkably weakened these effects of baicalein. Furthermore, we confirmed that the prooxidant action of baicalein involved the direct production of hydroxyl radicals through redox recycling of copper ions. Conclusion These findings suggested that baicalein, acting as a prooxidant, could trigger apoptosis in MCF-7 cells occurs via the ROS-mediated intrinsic mitochondria-dependent pathway.

Aims Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) can promote cell division, proliferation and migration. In this study, we aimed to investigate roles of ultrasound-mediated destruction of VEGF-targeted and paclitaxel (PTX)-loaded lipid microbubbles (VTPLLM + US) in human breast cancer cells . Methods The activity of MCF-7 cells was determined by cell counting Kit-8. Flow cytometry was performed to detect the cells apoptosis and cell cycle. The expression of cell cycle-associated proteins, matrix metalloprotein-9 (MMP-9), VEGF and apoptosis-associated proteins were detected by qRT-PCR and Western blot . Results The obtained data suggested that VTPLLM + US promoted the G1 phase cell cycle arrest and suppressed the viability of MCF-7 cells. We also found that VTPLLM + US accelerated cells apoptosis. Cell cycle-associated proteins and VEGF expression were modulated by VTPLLM + US. Moreover, VTPLLM + US was found to regulate the expression levels of apoptosis-associated proteins in MCF-7 cells. Our findings suggested that VTPLLM + US suppressed the proliferation and accelerated the apoptosis of MCF-7 cells through regulating VEGF expression. Conclusions The potential effects of VTPLLM + US on apoptosis of MCF-7 cells suggest that applying VTPLLM + US might be an effective strategy in breast cancer therapies.

To prevent premature drug release from nanoparticles, it is vital to design and prepare controlled and site-specific drug release systems. We investigated a new controllable drug release mesoporous carbon nanoparticle (MCN)-based nano-system with the advantages of enhanced permeability and retention effect (EPR) to target tumors followed by the NIR-induced heat-triggered release of a chemotherapeutic drug to show anti-tumor effects. The pores of MCN with photo-thermal effects were filled with the chemotherapeutic agent doxorubicin (DOX) and the phase change material (PCM) 1-tetradecanol was used as a gatekeeper to trap DOX inside the pores of the mesoporous carbon nanoparticles and the release of DOX inside tumor cells was triggered using NIR irradiation. The surface of MCN was coated with natural sophorolipid (SLPD) to obtain nanoparticles (DOX-PCM@MCN-SLPD) with good biocompatibility, dispersibility and stability in aqueous solutions. The MCN-based nano-system had the ability to load 24% DOX trapped with the PCM before coating with SLPD. It was observed that the release of DOX was temperature-dependent above the melting point of PCM. Once DOXPCM@MCN-SLPD was delivered into MCF-7/ADR cells, the release of DOX was triggered by MCN-borne photo-thermal effects under NIR irradiation. The amount of DOX inside the tumor was visualized via confocal laser scanning microscopy, which showed a higher amount of DOX at a higher temperature compared to that at normal body temperature, further confirming the minimization of premature drug release at 37 °C.
