Molybdenum carbide (Mo 2 C) exhibits unique competitive advantages in electrochemical water splitting due to its physicochemical properties . The high intrinsic activity is essential for the high-efficient Mo 2 C catalysts. Herein, transition metal (Ni, Co, or Fe)-Mo 2 C-embedded in N-doped carbon sheets grown on Ni foam (TM/Mo 2 C-NCSs) are synthesized to enhance the intrinsic activity of Mo 2 C by optimizing the Mo-H bonding energy through the interfacial interactions between Ni, Co, or Fe, and Mo 2 C. Owing to the superior intrinsic activity, fast ternary channels, and abundant active sites, the Ni/Mo 2 C-NCSs possess the lowest overpotential for HER (131 mV) and the Fe/Mo 2 C-NCSs show the lowest overpotential for OER (293 mV) at a current density of 100 mA cm −2 in 1 M KOH. The results analyzed with the Density function theory (DFT) calculation indicate that the most superior H adsorption site is at the interface between Mo 2 C and Ni hybrid. H was adsorbed on interface Mo&Ni@Ni/Mo 2 C with proper hydrogen adsorption free energies (ΔG H* ), achieving a fast desorption process in HER. This mechanism is absent in the pristine Mo 2 C catalysts. An alkaline electrolyzer with a cathode of Ni/Mo 2 C-NCSs and anode of Fe/Mo 2 C-NCSs demonstrates a small voltage of 1.66 V at a current density of 100 mA cm −2 . This work offers an elaborated strategy of interface engineering to enhance the intrinsic catalytic activity of Mo 2 C by accelerating H 2 desorption in HER and enhancing the catalytic kinetics of OER simultaneously.

Numerous catalytic reaction systems take oxygen vacancy as the active site to initiate the redox cycle. However, the oxygen vacancy is easily occupied by various oxygen-containing species (e.g., water or other intermediates), resulting in catalyst deactivation . Here, we demonstrate that the layered double hydroxide (LDH) catalysts fundamentally solve the deactivation of oxygen vacancy frequently encountered with metal oxide catalyst systems, which simultaneously realizes the superior reactivity and durability for catalyzing ozone decomposition. First-principles calculations reveal that the ubiquitous surface hydroxyls on the layered hydroxide serve as the reactive sites and the redox cycle is achieved by a robust H-transfer mechanism in the 2D confined LDH systems, which are responsible for the extraordinary activity and resistance of LDH catalysts.

Brønsted acid ionic liquids (BAILs) are effective to biodiesel production of in situ transesterification of wet algae due to their dual role as both solvents of cellulose and catalysts of transesterification. The cellulose solubilities of BAILs are depending on H-bonding of BAILs-cellulose in varied solvent conditions, which subsequently affect the biodiesel productions. For this reason, the effects of H-bonding between BAILs including [Bmim][H2PO4], [Bmim]2[HPO4], [Bmim][HSO4], and cellulose under different methanol and water conditions on cellulose extractions are experimentally and theoretically investigated. The cellulose extractions in BAILs are decreasing as [Bmim][H2PO4] > [Bmim]2[HPO4] > [Bmim][HSO4], contrary to the variation of their thermal stabilities and crystallinities caused by varied H-bonding of BAILs-cellulose. Increasing methanol is positive to cellulose extractions in [Bmim][HSO4], while negative to those in [Bmim][H2PO4] and [Bmim]2[HPO4], due to the solvent effect of methanol confirmed by cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements. The effect of water on H-bonding of BAILs-cellobiose is contrary to the effect of methanol. It is confirmed via the bonding interaction of BAILs-cellobiose through the density functional theory (DFT) computational method. However, the biodiesel yields are varied differently due to the competition of H-bonding of BAILs-cellobiose and deprotonation of BAILs under different methanol and water conditions. This study might pave the way to neutralize the negative effect of water on in situ transesterification via enhancing the cellulose extractions of BAILs.

H-beta zeolites of 100–200 nm (named BEA-L) and 20–30 nm (named BEA-S) were treated by chemical liquid deposition (CLD) of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) to improve the selectivity of 2-phenyl linear alkylbenzene (2-LAB) from benzene alkylation with 1-dodecene. The results indicate that H-beta zeolite with a smaller crystal size has a longer lifetime due to shorter channels and less diffusion limitation. The deposited SiO2 layers passivated the external surface acid sites of the zeolite and made the pores narrower. BEA-L lost more external Brønsted acid sites than BEA-S with the same added amount of TEOS, which was due to the severe aggregation of BEA-S grains. This increased passivation gave BEA-L increased 2-LAB selectivity. And when the added amount of SiO2 was 7.20 wt% of the parent zeolite, the selectivity of 2-LAB over BEA-L significantly increased from 41.9% to 54.7% while that of BEA-S only increased by 2%.

DNA templated fluorescent copper nanoclusters (DNA-CuNCs) have demonstrated enormous potential for biochemical analysis. However, most of them are focused on DNA-related sensing. Here, we designed a hairpin DNA/RNA chimeric chain for the formation of fluorescent CuNCs and further applied it to detect reverse transcription-associated ribonuclease H (RNase H). The DNA/RNA chimera templated copper nanoclusters (DNA/RNA-CuNCs) exhibited similar spectral properties with DNA-CuNCs. In the presence of RNase H, the RNA segment in chimera is hydrolyzed and release short oligonucleotides, which fail to synthsize fluorescent CuNCs. The capabilities for RNase H detection from complex samples and screening of inhibitors were verified. This strategy exhibited high sensitivity for RNase H with a detectable minimum concentration of 5.5 × 10 −4 U mL -1 , which is lower than the developed fluorescent methods. This work will open up new thoughts to design new template for metal nanoclusters and broaden their application in RNA-related sensing.

Recently, all-inorganic perovskite (CsPbX 3 (X = Cl, Br, I)) nanocrystals (NCs) have caused extensive attention due to their high photoluminescence quantum yield (PL QY), high color purity, and narrow full width at half maximum (FWHM). Although the excellent optical properties of perovskite NCs (PNCs) endow them good application prospects, their inherent instability severely limits the commercialization process. In this paper, highly-luminescence and ultra-stable phosphor were obtained by loading PNCs onto the surface of amino modified hexagonal boron-nitride (h-BN) white graphene (PNCs-BNWG), This structural design can effectively suppress the attenuation of photoluminescence (PL) intensity and enhance thermal stability, thereby realizing the high stability and brightness white LEDs. The synthesis process is simple and can be finished in a few minutes to ensure scalable production. Compared with bare PNCs, it can maintain excellent optical properties. The high PL QY and thermal stability mainly stem from the isolation effect that separates PNCs from each other on the surface of BNWG and their superior high transparency as well as thermal conductivity . In addition, multi-color inks are produced by dispersing PNCs-BNWG nanocomposites in PDMS to form a multicolor painting demonstrating high PL QY and wide color gamut.

Converting glucose into value-added cyclic carbonates is a promising route for carbon utilization, and strongly influenced by the acidic properties and mass transport characteristics of solid acid catalysts. In this study, H-ZSM-5 nanosheets with varied Si/Al ratios were synthesized to investigate the effects of framework composition and b -axis length on glucose conversion. Increasing the Si/Al ratio decreased the density of acid sites but simultaneously reduced the b -axis length, enriched aluminum species near the external surface, and increased the relative abundance of Lewis acid sites, thereby enhancing the accessibility and utilization of active site. Consequently, H-ZSM-5_100 exhibited the highest site time yield, the lowest apparent activation energy, and the highest selectivity toward fructose and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF). Under optimized reaction conditions, H-ZSM-5_100 achieved a glucose conversion of 56.3% with a 5-HMF formation rate of 42.8 mmol h −1 g −1 . These results demonstrate that the catalytic performance of H-ZSM-5 nanosheets is governed by the synergistic effects of framework composition, the distribution of acid site, and crystal morphology, providing guidance for the rational design of zeolite catalysts for biomass conversion. Rational regulation of zeolite acidity and diffusion properties is crucial for efficient biomass conversion. This work presents H-ZSM-5 nanosheets with tunable Si/Al ratios are developed to reveal the synergistic effects of acid site distribution and b -axis length on glucose conversion, enabling enhanced production of fructose and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural through optimized active-site accessibility. Acid-responsive thick nanosheets for knee osteoarthritis therapy. • Dual delivery of H₂ gas and Mg 2+ ions in inflammatory joints. • H₂ scavenges ROS and reduces pro-inflammatory cytokines. • Mg 2+ contributes to chondroprotection and cartilage matrix maintenance. • A gas-ion synergistic strategy to reprogram the joint microenvironment. The inadequacy of current Knee Osteoarthritis (KOA) therapies lies in the challenges of effectively overcoming oxidative stress and repairing damaged joint cartilage. To address these challenges, we developed an innovative “gas-ion synergistic delivery” treatment strategy using two-dimensional magnesium boride thick nanosheets (MBNs). The MBNs, prepared via solvent-assisted exfoliation, continuously release hydrogen gas (H₂) and magnesium ions (Mg 2+ ) in the mildly acidic microenvironment of KOA (pH 6.5), providing a dual therapeutic effect. Hydrogen shows strong antioxidant properties, effectively scavenging free radicals 2,2-azino -bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH)), reducing intracellular ROS levels. Furthermore, MBNs significantly suppress the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and TNF-α. This strategy leverages “gas antioxidation-ion regeneration” dual-mode synergy, offering low cost and exceptional biocompatibility. It presents an innovative solution with clear translational potential for microenvironment reprogramming and targeted therapy of KOA.

The rapid progress in technology has led to widespread adoption of electronic devices. However, this increased usage has brought about concerns regarding both environmental impact and human health. As a result, there is a growing demand for the development of intelligent devices that can address both electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and effective thermal management simultaneously. In this work, we introduce a simple approach for the fabrication of flexible conductive phase change materials (FCPCMs). By combining hollow ZIF-67 (H-ZIF) nanoparticles with a high encapsulation efficiency alongside conductive carbon cloth, we found that the hollow nanoparticles provide excellent encapsulation capabilities. Unlike traditional PCMs, this FCPCM exhibits a unique ability to efficiently convert, store, and release heat energy when stimulated by both light and electricity. Furthermore, the distinctive composite structure of this material enables shape memory, allowing for an EMI shielding switch that responds to changes in temperature. This study not only contributes to the advancement of multifunctional flexible PCMs but also explores the convergence of thermal management and electromagnetic shielding, paving the way for further research and applications in this field.

PDA-functionalized h-BN nanomaterials (Ph-BN) were used to reinforce the electrodeposited Ni W coatings. Compared with the h-BN nanomaterial, Ph-BN has better dispersion in the plating solution, which can effectively improve the mechanical and corrosion resistance of the coating. Compared with the Ni W coating, the microhardness value of the Ni-W/Ph-BN coating (662.8 Hv) was increased by 33.47 % and the friction coefficient (0.382) was reduced by 41.86 %. This is due to the special ceramic composite layered structure of Ph-BN namely the combination of flexible unit PDA structure and rigid unit h-BN structure, which will synergistically hinder the shedding of the coating during the friction process and help to improve the wear resistance of the coating. The R ct value of Ni-W/Ph-BN is 34,500 Ω•cm 2 , which is 105.36 % higher compared to Ni W coating. Ni-W/Ph-BN also has the smallest corrosion rate (0.0465 mm•a −1 ), which is 45.74 % lower relative to Ni W coating. The uniformly dispersed Ph-BN nanosheets in the coating prolong the corrosion path for corrosive ions. Besides, the PDA has the effect of anchoring Fe 2+ / Fe 3+ , which will be beneficial for the composite coating corrosion resistance improvement.

Polymer self-lubricating composite coatings have been widely used on the surface of machinery to extend the life of the moving systems/parts by controlling friction and wear. In this work, epoxy nanocomposite coating with the thickness of about 60 μm was fabricated with addition of hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs)/CeO 2 nanohybrid for enhancement in antifriction and wear resistance. The active BNNSs were first obtained by exfoliating h-BN with alkaline solution, and then the rare earth oxide of CeO 2 nanoparticles were immobilized on the surface of BNNSs through hydrothermal method. The microstructure morphology and chemical composition of as-proposed BNNSs/CeO 2 were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, HRTEM, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, RS, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. And the tribological behaviors of epoxy nanocomposite coatings containing BNNSs, CeO 2 , and BNNSs/CeO 2 were investigated comparatively using ball-on disc friction tester (MPX-3). And the 440C stainless-steel ball with diameter of 8 mm was used as the counterface material. Tribological tests showed that epoxy-BNNSs/CeO 2 had the best friction and wear reduction properties, and the lowest coefficient of friction and wear rate of epoxy-based composite coating were achieved when the content of BNNSs/CeO 2 was 0.5 wt%, with 84.9% and 96.3% reduction, respectively. Moreover, the effect of sliding conditions on the tribological performance of epoxy-BNNSs/CeO 2 was investigated. The corresponding enhancing mechanisms of BNNSs/CeO 2 were discussed as well.

Two-dimensional hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) has excellent corrosion resistance and barrier ability, showing unique advantages in the field of anti-corrosion. The h-BN was assembled with Zeolite imidazolate framework material (ZIF-8) and benzimidazole (BI), and an active filler (h-BN/ZIF-8@BI) with shielding and active corrosion resistance was prepared. Zeolite imidazolate framework material was in-situ grown on h-BN surface and loaded with benzimidazole (BI), prepared an active anticorrosive filler with high shielding property (h-BN/ZIF-8@BI). The microstructure, crystal form, element composition, corrosion inhibition ability and thermal stability of h-BN/ZIF-8@BI were studied. The barrier, corrosion inhibition and anti-friction properties of EP/h-BN/ZIF-8@BI combined with F51 epoxy resin were explored. EIS test shows that the corrosion inhibition efficiency of h-BN/ZIF-8@BI is as high as 81.8 %. The impedance modulus of the steel matrix protected by the composite coating was about 2 orders of magnitude higher than that of the control sample, showing excellent barrier ability. In addition, the salt spray test proves that the composite coating has excellent corrosion inhibition characteristics. Taber testing machine shows that the wear mass loss of EP/h-BN/ZIF-8@BI coating is 34.5 % lower than that of EP coating. This work provides a novel idea for the preparation of high barrier, active anticorrosive and wear resistant anticorrosive coatings, and provides a new horizon of the composite coatings.
