A hybrid material , Ca/Mg-MOF/polyamidoxime (Ca/Mg-MOF/PAO), was synthesized and tested for uranium(VI) uptake in solution. The structure and performance of Ca/Mg-MOF/PAO were comprehensively investigated. Adsorption experiments demonstrated that Ca/Mg-MOF/PAO exhibited an extraordinary saturation capacity of 579.5 mg/g for uranium (VI) at pH = 8, surpassing that of most other adsorbents. The adsorption process of Ca/Mg-MOF/PAO on uranium (VI) conformed to Langmuir and PSO models, suggesting chemical rate control and monolayer adsorption, respectively. Furthermore, Ca/Mg-MOF/PAO displayed excellent adsorption-desorption recovery performance for uranium (VI). Its high adsorption capacity and efficient recoverability position Ca/Mg-MOF/PAO as a material with great potential for extracting uranium (VI) from aqueous media.

The random arrangement of graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets within the organic coating forms a conductive network, thereby accelerating galvanic corrosion and exacerbating metal deterioration. Inspired by ordered layered structure of natural nacre, this study has successfully fabricated a biomimetic GO/epoxy coating on Mg alloy to prevent corrosion and reduce wear. By polymerizing polyaniline (PANI) and dopamine (PDA) on the GO, GO/PANI/PDA sheets with good dispersibility and impermeability are obtained. Subsequently, the bio-inspired coating (I-GO/PANI/PDA-WEP) with “nacre-like” structure is prepared via alternately spraying GO/PANI/PDA layers with epoxy layers. The anisotropic electrical conductivity of the coating is derived from the ordered distribution of GO/PANI/PDA layers to the Mg substrate, which can conduct electricity more efficiently in-plane while suppressing longitudinal electron transport. The enhanced physical barrier effect by the “nacre-like” structure and the electron suppression effect can improve anticorrosion performance. The coating reduces the corrosion rate by 6.3 × 10 5 times in comparison to Mg alloy. Moreover, this coating shows excellent wear resistance, which protects Mg alloy from friction and wear with a reduction in wear rate by approximately 96%. This bio-inspired approach offers a unique strategy for fabricating GO composite coatings with exceptional performance. Highlights The corrosion/wear resistance of I-GO/PANI/PDA has greatly improved. GO/PANI/PDA coating exhibits excellent anisotropic conductivity. Galvanic corrosion is inhibited due to the addition of GO/PANI/PDA. “Nacre-like” structure shows high labyrinth effect. The ordered orientation of GO/PANI/PDA suppresses out-plane electron transport.

Dense SrLa( R 0.5 Ti 0.5 )O 4 ( R= Mg, Zn) ceramics were prepared by a standard solid-state reaction method. The single phase with complex K 2 NiF 4 -type layered perovskite structure and I 4/ mmm space group was revealed by XRD, and the refined structure was analyzed by Rietveld analysis. Significantly improved dielectric constant was obtained in SrLa( R 0.5 Ti 0.5 )O 4 ceramics compared to the analogues SrLaAlO 4 and SrLaGaO 4 , which is attributed to the increasing normalized bond lengths of Sr/La-O(1) and Sr/La-O(2a) bonds and the higher polarizability of ( R 0.5 Ti 0.5 ) 3+ than Al 3+ and Ga 3+ . In addition, τ f converts to a positive value with the increase in dielectric constant. The following microwave dielectric properties were obtained in the dense ceramics: ε r =25.5, Qf= 72 000 GHz, τ f = 29 ppm/°C for SrLa(Mg 0.5 Ti 0.5 )O 4 , and ε r =29.4, Qf= 34 000 GHz, τ f = 38 ppm/°C for SrLa(Zn 0.5 Ti 0.5 )O 4. Furthermore, the stability of K 2 NiF 4 -type structure in MLnB O 4 [ M =Ca, Sr, Ba; Ln =Y, Sm, Nd, La; B= Al, Ga, (Mg 0.5 Ti 0.5 ), (Zn 0.5 Ti 0.5 )] compounds was discussed in relation to the tolerance factor of perovskite layer and the radius ratio of M 2+ and Ln 3+ , based on which near-zero τ f values are expected to be obtained in SrLa( R 0.5 Ti 0.5 )O 4 -SrLaAlO 4 and SrLa( R 0.5 Ti 0.5 )O 4 –SrLaGaO 4 unlimited solid solutions.

An active drug delivery vector of Mg-based micromotor is proposed for enhanced intestinal drug mass spectrometry (MS) detection from proof of concept. Taking diabetes as a disease model, insulin nanoparticles (Ins-NPs) were successfully loaded in chitosan (CHI) layer of Mg-based micromotor (Mg/Au/PLGA/CHI@Ins-NPs) due to electrostatic adsorption with PLGA. The penetration ability of micromotors was evaluated on artificial mucin, which is distributed within about 300 μm of the mucus. In addition, in vitro drug delivery and retention was carried out on the isolated small intestine of mice; then, the insulin molecule was determined by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS). By overcoming the mucus barrier and enhancing retention in intestine through active transport of micromotor, insulin ions at m/z 963.9443, 1156.3287, and 1445.1592 were detected by UPLC-MS and classified as [Insulin + 6H] 6+ , [Insulin + 5H] 5+ , and [Insulin + 4H] 4+ . Notably, the mass-to-charge ratio of insulin ions was detected only in micromotor drug delivery systems compared to drug-loaded inert particles in the isolated small intestine, attributed to the intensive penetration and retention capability of micromotors. Meanwhile, this Mg-based micromotor exhibited good biocompatibility and was easy to be removed for the UPLC-MS detection sample preparation. Overall, we provide a potential strategy to detect the low content of drugs with UPLC-MS technique by combining with active micromotor and further broadening the sensing application for untethered micromotor. Achieving both low dielectric loss (tan δ ) and high temperature stability of ceramic capacitors can greatly broaden their potential application. In this study, the effects of Mg and Al co-substitution on the microstructure and dielectric properties of CCTO-based ceramics were investigated in CaCu 3- x Mg x Ti 4- x Al x O 12 ( x = 0, 0.025, 0.050, and 0.075) ceramics prepared by a sol-gel method. XRD analysis shows that the primary crystalline phase of CCTO is formed in all samples, indicating that Mg 2 + and Al 3+ have entered the lattice. SEM results reveal the co-substitution of Mg and Al inhibits the grain growth, leading to an increase in grain boundary density. All co-substituted samples exhibited low tan δ and excellent temperature stability. Notably, CaCu 2.95 Mg 0.05 Ti 3.95 Al 0.05 O 12 ceramics exhibited an extremely low tan δ of 0.007 (at 10 3 Hz) and its dielectric constant maintained excellent stability over a broad temperature spectrum (−125 to 150 °C), meeting the commercial standards for X8P capacitors. The reduction of tan δ is mainly attributed to the inhibition of grain growth in Mg and Al co-substituted samples, which increases grain boundary density and subsequently suppresses the mobility of oxygen vacancies, leading to an increase in grain boundary resistance. Furthermore, the improvement in temperature stability is ascribed to the reduction in the content of oxygen vacancies and the suppression of electron transitions between Ti 4+ and Ti 3+ as well as Cu 2+ and Cu + in Mg and Al co-substituted samples, resulting in an increase in grain boundary activation energy. These novel findings are hoping to contribute to not only the fabrication of new CCTO-based ceramics with extremely low tanδ and excellent temperature stability but also the application of CCTO-based ceramics at a very broad temperature range in electronic devices, new energy vehicles, aerospace, and polar scientific research equipment.

Water pollution seriously affects the development of society and human life. There are various kinds of pollutants, including soluble pollutants and insoluble floaters on the water surface. Herein, the photocatalyst semiconductor BiOCl and superhydrophobic functional particles Mg(OH)2were deposited on the surfaces of canvas and polyester felt to construct superhydrophobic canvas and polyester felt. The contact angles of the synthetic superhydrophobic canvas and polyester felt were measured as 152° and 155.3°, respectively. The selective adsorption of hexadecane was achieved using the wetting difference between the surface of water and pollutants floating on the surface. For dissolved pollutants, the surface wettability needed to be changed with the help of ethanol. The degradation efficiencies were all greater than 90%, demonstrating the versatility of the synthetic superhydrophobic canvas and polyester felt.

Aqueous rechargeable Mg-ion batteries (ARMIBs) are promising for large-scale energy storage due to the aqueous electrolyte's high safety and low cost. However, the aqueous electrolyte's narrow electrochemical stability window (ESW) significantly hinders the development of ARMIBs, especially the compatibility of electrolytes with anode materials . We first report a TiO 2 (B) anode for ARMIBs that has high compatibility with wide potential aqueous electrolytes (ESW: ∼3.66 V), thus resulting in a low magnesiated potential (∼0.95 V vs. Mg 2+ /Mg), highest capacity (50 mA g −1 : 247.7 mAh g −1 ) reported for Ti-based oxide anodes in aqueous metal-ion batteries thus far, and fast Mg 2+ diffusion kinetics (∼3.49 × 10 −11 cm 2 s −1 ). When the magnesiated TiO 2 (B) (Mg x TiO 2 (B)) anode is paired with V 2 O 5 , the Mg x TiO 2 (B)||V 2 O 5 full cell can deliver high voltage (2.5 V), high capacity (100 mA g −1 : 64.4 mAh g −1 , based on the total electrode mass) and high cycling stability with no capacity decay after 200 cycles at 100 mA g −1 . The versatile intercalation chemistry of TiO 2 (B) observed here is expected to spur the development of high-voltage ARMIBs.

Fluoride contamination has become a global public health problem due to its adverse health effects. The search for efficient and environmentally friendly fluoride removal technology is an urgent issue. Capacitive deionization (CDI) technology has attracted much attention because of its high efficiency, easy operation and environmental friendliness. Electrode materials are crucial for CDI systems. Herein, Mg-MOF-derived dendritic carbon materials (MMCNF) are successfully grown in situ on lignin nanofibers via solvothermal synthesis. Due to the high specific surface area of Mg-MOF and the structural stability of lignin nanofibers, it has a high specific capacitance of 158 F·g −1 at a current density of 1 A·g −1 . And the capacitance retention of 93.13 % is obtained after 5000 charge/discharge cycles. The CDI unit equipped with MMCNF electrodes effectively reduced the fluoride ion concentration to 1.21 mg·L −1 in a 10 mg·L −1 simulated fluoridated wastewater, exhibiting a maximum adsorption capacity of 20.64 mg·g −1 . It is lower than the drinking water standard of 1.5 mg·L −1 set by the World Health Organization. This work offers new electrode materials and technological options for the removal of fluoride ions from wastewater in the future.

The controllable Curie temperature and high magnetic permeability of NiCuZn ferrites make them promising candidates for magnetic thermal medium. However, the temperature control of existing NiCuZn ferrite materials is not accurate enough to achieve the low Curie temperature required for tumor hyperthermia. In order to further achieve the desired Curie temperature and facilitate the advancement of temperature control materials for tumor hyperthermia, Cr–Mg co-doped NiCuZn ferrite was studied. The study investigated the influence of varying concentrations of Cr 3+ on the crystal structure and magnetic properties of Mg–NiCuZn ferrites. The results of structural characterization demonstrate that Cr–Mg co-doped NiCuZn ferrites exhibit high density and uniform distribution of elements. The introduction of Cr 3+ leads to a reduction in lattice parameters and a preference for octahedral B-sites. The hysteresis loop results show that the saturation magnetization first increases and then decreases with the increase of Cr 3+ concentration. Ni 0.09 Mg 0.20 Cu 0.14 Zn 0.60 Fe 1.89 Cr 0.050 O 3.94 ferrite at 0.30 wt% of Bi 2 O 3 exhibits optimal magnetic characteristics, including a saturation magnetization of ∼36.7 emu/g, low coercivity of ∼0.07 kA/m, high permeability of ∼982.43 @1 MHz, and an appropriate Curie temperature of 45.59 °C. Such permeability and Curie temperature can be used in the body cavity perfusion hyperthermia and deep thermal therapy.

Herein, ZMGGO:Cr 3+ nanoparticles were prepared by incorporating Mg 2+ ions into Cr 3+ -doped zinc gallogermenate nanoparticles through a hydrothermal path in combination with a vacuum heating. The average size of ZMGGO:Cr 3+ nanoparticles minishes from 59 to 12 nm with growing Mg 2+ concentration. Meanwhile their luminescence intensity at 696 nm of ZMGGO:Cr 3+ nanoparticles was only decreased by less than half of that of the undoped nanoparticles due to the decreased particle size after Mg doping. Meanwhile, the integral luminescence intensity of their entire emission band shows an increasing trend with increasing temperature due to the enhanced phonon sideband luminescence at high temperature. More important, it is found that the formation energies associated with Mg′ Ga -Ga o Zn and Zn′ Ga -Ga o Zn defects are −1.2 and 1.69 eV, respectively, suggesting the enhanced afterglow intensity of ZMGGO:Cr 3+ can be ascribed to Mg doping leading to the increased number of these anti-site traps. Finally, the dual-level time-gate optical encryption was demonstrated using phosphorescent inks containing ZMGGO:Cr 3+ nanoparticles with different afterglow intensities.

The accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) within the bone marrow microenvironment leads to diminished osteogenic differentiation and heightened lipogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells residing in the bone marrow, ultimately playing a role in the development of osteoporosis (OP). Mitigating ROS levels is a promising approach to counteracting OP. In this study, a nanozyme composed of magnesium-based zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (Mg-ZIF) was engineered to effectively scavenge ROS and alleviate OP. The results of this study indicate that Mg-ZIF exhibits significant potential in scavenging ROS and effectively promoting osteogenic differentiation of bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs). Additionally, Mg-ZIF was found to inhibit the differentiation of BMSCs into adipose cells. In vivo experiments further confirmed the ability of Mg-ZIF to mitigate OP by reducing ROS levels. Mechanistically, Mg-ZIF enhances the differentiation of BMSCs into osteoblasts by upregulating lipid metabolic pathways through ROS scavenging. The results indicate that Mg-ZIF has potential as an effective therapeutic approach for the treatment of osteoporosis.

Lithium and its compounds are critical strategic resources with wide-ranging applications. This study developed a bipolar membrane precipitation coupled electrodialysis enrichment (BMp-EDe) process for extracting lithium from brines with an Mg/Li ratio of 20. The method is based on phase separation achieved through precipitation-coupled ion permeation and a synergistic mechanism for ion enrichment, resulting in significant process intensification. Key factors such as current density, molar ratio between diluate and base chambers, and base chamber concentration were optimized to control nucleation and prevent membrane fouling. Under conditions of current density ranging from 200 to 400 A·m −2 and a molar ratio of the diluate chamber to the base chamber between 13 and 16, the magnesium removal rate in the BMp-EDe process is found to exceed 99.90 %, with a separation factor greater than 20,000. The optimal separation factor is observed to reach 40,244, with a magnesium removal rate as 99.96 % and a lithium recovery rate as 95.32 %. With optimized operation conditions, the energy consumption of magnesium precipitation decreased from 11.89 kWh·kg −1 (Mg 2+ ) to 7.97 kWh·kg −1 (Mg 2+ ). Thus, an alternative method is presented that employs commercial bipolar membranes to achieve ultra-high magnesium‑lithium separation efficiency. Additionally, a mechanism for the continuous operation of the magnesium precipitation chamber is validated, which can effectively prevent membrane fouling.
