Luteolin (LUT) is an active agent in cancer prevention and a potential candidate for clinical chemotherapy. However, poor water solubility and extensive excretion have limited the clinical use of luteolin. Herein, we attempted to develop vitamin E d-α-tocopherol acid polyethylene glycol 1000 succinate (TPGS) coated liposomes to improve the accumulation of luteolin in lung cancer. Luteolin or coumarin-6 loaded liposomes were prepared using film-dispersion methods and characterized according to their particle size, polydispersity, zeta potential , and drug encapsulation efficiency. Cellular uptake properties and cytotoxicities of luteolin or coumarin-6 loaded liposomes were determined in A549 cells. Optical in vivo imaging was employed as a method of assessing tumor targeting. The antitumor effect was evaluated in mice xenotransplanted with A549 cancer cells. The results showed that TPGS coated liposomes are spherical, and are ∼176.2 nm in size. TPGS coated liposomes enhanced cellular uptake and apoptosis by upregulating the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, resulting in improved cytotoxicity in A549 cells. TPGS coated liposomes significantly accumulated in tumor tissue and enhanced tumor inhibition without altering the structures of other organs. Thereby, TPGS coated liposomes provide an effective strategy in cancer chemotherapy for model drugs with poor water solubility such as luteolin.

In recent years, photovoltaic properties of hybrid perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have led to impressive improvement. Yet, there is still remain a challenge for large scale application and commercialization. Some of the reasons are the instability of the perovskite film and the lack of large-scale and low-cost manufacture techniques for electron transport layer (ETL). Tin oxide (SnO 2 ) has emerged as a promising candidate for ETL, however, systematic exploration of its commercialized application in PSCs is still missing. Here, SnO 2 ETL is prepared through an electron beam evaporation technology under low-temperature process to realize large-scale, low-cost, and uniform manufacture. Hundreds of SnO 2 ETL substrates can be fabricated at one time, which deserves industrial deployment. As a result, PSCs based on e-beam evaporated SnO 2 ETL and Cs-containing blended perovskite absorber layer exhibit a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of up to 18.2% without any interface modification. Furthermore, the PSCs demonstrate remarkable long-term stability, which remained at 97% of its initial PCE after being stored for over 34 days. The results demonstrate the great potential of the PSCs based on e-beam evaporated SnO 2 ETLs towards commercialization.

Nanofluidic membranes hold great prospects in sensitive and rapid detection of bioanalysts, while remaining lacking robust and general approaches for specificity. In this work, we introduce a cell membrane-inspired nanofluidic membrane with excellent ion current rectification properties as a simple and robust platform for label-free and ultrasensitive biosensing. The asymmetric nanofluidic membrane is prepared by coupling a two-dimensional covalent organic framework (COF) membrane to an anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) nanochannel via hydrogen bonding. The prepared COF/AAO membrane presents selective ion transport due to the asymmetric structure and anion selectivity of COF. With the large surface area and abundant functional modification sites of COF, further grafting of the recognition unit can be easily achieved to mimic the recognition process of receptors and ligands on cell membranes. As a proof of concept, the application in bacterial detection is demonstrated by covalently bonded Concanavalin A as recognition units. The highly amplified ionic current based on ion current rectification properties of the COF/AAO membrane allows sensitive and selective bioanalysis. Specifically, the proposed asymmetric nanofluidic membrane presents a linear detection range from 10 to 10 6 CFU/mL with an ultralow detection limit of 7 CFU/mL for E. coli . This work reveals the great potential of COF/AAO hybrid nanofluidic membrane as a sensor for rapid and precise bioanalysis.

Chemically cross-linked hydrogel nanoparticles (HGNPs) offer enhanced properties over their physical counterparts, particularly in drug delivery and cell encapsulation. This study applied pH-thermal dual responsive bio-adhesive HGNPs for dual complexation and enhanced the controlled release and bioavailability of cisplatin (CDDP) and Vitamin E (VE) drugs. The CDDP was loaded into the HGNPs via chemical conjugation with the carboxyl groups in the HGNPs surface by soy polysaccharides (SSPS). At the same time, the host-guest interaction complexed the VE through the β-cyclodextrin (β-CD). The HGNPs showed a uniform HGNPs size distribution of 90.77 ± 14.77 nm and 81.425 ± 13.21 nm before and after complexation, respectively. The FTIR, XRD , XPS , and zeta potential confirmed the conjugation. The cumulative release percent of CDDP reached 98 % at pH 1.2, while <45 % was released at pH 7.4. Our HGNPs enhance the incorporation of CDDP by substituting its chlorides with carboxyl groups of the SSPS; the loading of CDDP and VE was 15 ± 0.33 and 11.32 ± 0.25 wt%, respectively. Moreover, the CDDP and VE also released slower from the HGNPs at 25 °C than at 37 °C and 42 °C. The (VE/CDDP)-loaded HGNPs exhibited longer circulation time in vivo than free CDDP and free VE suspension.

E-peroxone process is an emerging electrochemical oxidation process , based on ozone and the in-situ cathodic generation of H 2 O 2 , but the stability of cathode is one of the key restraining factors. In this study, we designed a multilayer gas diffusion electrode (GDE) decorated with a commercial hydrophobic membrane for the degradation of pyridine. It was found that a proper control of membrane pore sizes and hot-pressing temperature can significantly promote the GDE stability. Subsequently, key operational parameters of the constructed E-peroxone system were investigated, including the ozone concentration, current density, pH value, electrolyte type and initial concentration of pyridine. The degradation pathways were proposed according to six identified transformation products. The toxicity variation along the degradation progress was evaluated with microbial respiration tests and Toxicity Estimation Software Tool (T.E.S.T.) calculation and an efficient detoxification capacity of E-peroxone was observed. This research provides a theoretical basis and technical support for the development of highly efficient and stable E-peroxone system for the elimination of toxic organic contaminants.

Chamomile has become one of the world’s most popular herbal teas due to its unique properties. Chamomile is widely used in dietary supplements, cosmetics, and herbal products. This study aimed to investigate the volatile aromatic components in chamomile. Two analytical techniques, gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and an ultra-fast gas chromatography electronic nose, were employed to examine samples from Xinjiang (XJ), Shandong (SD), and Hebei (HB) in China, and imported samples from Germany (GER). The results revealed that all chamomile samples contained specific sesquiterpene compounds, including α-bisabolol, bisabolol oxide, bisabolone oxide, and chamazulene. Additionally, forty potential aroma components were identified by the electronic nose. The primary odor components of chamomile were characterized by fruity and spicy notes. The primary differences in the components of chamomile oil were identified as (E)-β-farnesene, chamazulene,α-bisabolol oxide B, spathulenol andα-bisabolone oxide A. Significant differences in aroma compounds included geosmin, butanoic acid, 2-butene, norfuraneol,γ-terpinene. This study demonstrates that GC–MS and the ultra-fast gas chromatography electronic nose can preliminarily distinguish chamomile from different areas, providing a method and guidance for the selection of origin and sensory evaluation of chamomile. The current study is limited by the sample size and it provides preliminary conclusions. Future studies with a larger sample size are warranted to further improve these findings.

Chitosan exhibits good biocompatibility and some antibacterial activity , making it a popular choice in biomedicine, personal care products, and food packaging. Despite its advantages, the limited antibacterial effectiveness of chitosan hinders its widespread use. Introducing a six-membered heterocyclic structure through chemical modification can significantly enhance its antimicrobial properties and broaden its potential applications. In order to explore the effect of six-membered heterocyclic structure on the antibacterial and antibiofilm activities of chitosan. In this study, seven chitosan derivatives containing six-membered heterocyclics were prepared. They were characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and elemental analysis . Cell viability assay showed that they were non-toxic. The antibacterial and antibiofilm activities against Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) and Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ) were evaluated. Our research findings demonstrate that increasing the hydrophobicity , alkalinity and charge density of the substitute groups improved the antibacterial and antibiofilm activities of chitosan. This study also offers valuable insights into the quantitative structure-activity relationships of chitosan derivatives in terms of antibacterial and antibiofilm activities.

The emergence of novel e-textile materials that combine the inherent qualities of the textile substrate (lightweight, soft, breathable, durable, etc.) with the functionality of micro/nano-electronic materials (conductive, dielectric, sensing, etc.) has resulted in a trend toward miniaturization, integration, and intelligence in new electronic devices. However, the formation of a conductive network by micro/nano-conductive materials on textiles necessitates high-temperature sintering, which inevitably causes substrate aging and component damage. Herein, a bis-hydroxy-imidazolium chloride salt as a hard segment to synthesize a waterborne polyurethane (WPU) adhesive is designed and prepared. When used in nano-silver-based printing coatings, it offers strong adherence for coatings, reaching 16 N cm−1; on the other hand, the introduction of chloride ions enables low-temperature (60 °C) chemical sintering to address the challenge of secondary treatment and high-temperature sintering (>150 °C). Printed into flexible circuits, the resistivity can be controlled by the content of imidazolium salts anchored in the molecular chain of the WPU from a maximum resistivity of 3.1 × 107down to 5.8 × 10−5Ω m, and it can conduct a Bluetooth-type finger pulse detector with such low resistivity. As a flexible circuit, it also offers high stability against washing and adhesion, which the resistivity only reduces less than 20% after washing 10 times and adhesion. Owing to the adjustability of the resistivity, we fabricated an all-textile flexible pressure sensor that accurately differentiates different external pressures (min. 10 g, ~29 Pa), recognizes forms, and detects joint motions (finger bending and wrist flexion).

The limited expression of cellobiose 2-epimerase poses a significant constraint on the industrial enzymatic production of lactulose. Extensive modifications to the expression cassette offer a means to enhance the yield of recombinant proteins. In this study, an integrated strategy, combining individual and collaborative approaches, is proposed to fine-tune each stage of the CsCE overexpression program. This strategy involves the multidimensional integration of standardized genetic elements at various levels, including transcription, translation, folding, and three-dimensional structure. The volumetric activity of the final recombinant strain was markedly increased by 12-fold compared to the wild-type strain, reaching 2260.62 U/L. The protein expression in the newly developed high-yield recombinant strain exhibited a significant enhancement, with a higher proportion of soluble protein compared to that of inclusion bodies. Our findings offer insights into the multifaceted synergistic regulation of protein expression processes, holding promising implications for the production of heterologous recombinant proteins.

Escherichia coli O157:H7 ( E. coli O157:H7 ) emerges as a foodborne pathogen, emphasizing the imperative for creating precise detection tools. An ultrasensitive electrochemiluminescence/fluorescence (ECL/FL) dual-signal mode aptasensor was constructed for the detection of E. coli O157:H7 . Ultrafine silver nanoparticles were loaded on the surface of hydrogen-bonded organic skeleton materials by in-situ photoreduction method, and then combined with aptamers that can identify specific targets to prepare HOF-101@AgNPs@Apt, greatly simplifying the ECL/FL dual-signal mode probe fabrication process and improving sensing reliability. HOF-101@AgNPs@Apt had both strong ECL luminescence and fluorescence, resulting in a high detection sensitivity. The low limit of detection (LOD) for ECL and FL were 0.48 CFU mL −1 and 2.39 CFU mL −1 , respectively. Moreover, the proposed dual-signal mode aptasensor has been successfully applied to determine E. coli O157:H7 levels in tap water and milk with superior accuracy and high antiinterference capability, providing a promising method for food safety monitoring.

Blueberry aroma is a key determinant of fruit quality and market value. However, the mechanisms underlying its formation during ripening remain poorly understood. This study utilized the highbush blueberry cultivar ‘ Legacy ’ and employed an integrated approach combining E -nose, GC–MS, GC-IMS, and transcriptomics to systematically analyze the formation and changes in VOCs as well as the underlying molecular mechanisms throughout fruit ripening. The results revealed that during the entire fruit ripening process, VOCs were predominantly composed of alcohols, aldehydes, and terpenoids. Key compounds, including hexanol, linalool and geraniol, progressively accumulated. Furthermore, the combination of GC–MS and GC-IMS provided a more comprehensive profile of the volatile composition in blueberry fruit. Transcriptomic analysis further elucidated its metabolic regulatory mechanisms: 1) Terpenoid biosynthesis is co-regulated by the MAV and MEP pathways, with the MEP pathway playing a dominant role in monoterpene biosynthesis; 2) Fatty acid metabolism generates C6 aldehydes via LOX2S, while upregulation of ADH gene expression significantly enhances the conversion of aldehydes to alcohols. This study provides valuable theoretical foundations for flavor development during blueberry ripening.
