Considering the high theoretical specific capacity (4200 mAh/g), silicon is perceived as one of the most promising anode materials for lithium-ion battery, but the large volume change during the process of de/lithiation affects its cycle performance and practical application. With the assist of supercritical CO 2 fluid (scCO 2 ), graphite is exfoliated to folded graphite (FG) flakes. Meanwhile, the composite of Si/CNTs@FG with a hierarchical conductive network structure was constructed, where the silicon nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were homogenously attached to the interlayer of FG. The hierarchical conductive network composed of FG and CNTs not only promotes the electrons transfer process but also relieves volume expansion stress of silicon. The Si/CNTs@FG exhibits remarkable Li storage performance, delivering high specific reversible capacity (1204 mAh/g at the current density of 0.2A/g), high capacity retention (970 mAh/g after 100 cycles) and excellent rate performance (635.2 mAh/g at 2 A/g). This study provides a facile and scalable approach to prepare a silicon-based anode material with excellent electrochemical performance.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs)/Cu 2 O-CuO composite powder was fabricated by a spray pyrolysis (SP) method. The copper acetate monohydrate (Cu(CH 3 COO) 2 ·H 2 O) solution within CNTs dispersion was used as a precursor. The influences of decomposition temperatures, concentration of Cu(CH 3 COO) 2 solutions and CNTs mass fractions on the constituent phases and microstructures of the composite powder were investigated by XRD, FESEM, TEM, UV–Vis analysis methods. The results show that the composite powder prepared at 500 °C, with the concentration of 1.0 g/l Cu(CH 3 COO) 2 ·H 2 O and 30.0 wt.% CNTs mass fraction, has the best photocatalytic performance due to the numerous particles precipitated on the CNTs surface and lower recombination rate of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Furthermore, tentative mechanisms of the nucleation-growth and photodegradation properties were explored based on the microstructure and photocatalytic analysis.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are a novel type of one-dimensional carbon nanomaterials that have been widely utilized for biomedical applications such as drug delivery, cancer photothermal treatment owing to their high surface area and unique interaction with cell membranes. However, their biomedical applications are still impeded by some drawbacks, including poor water dispersibility, lack of functional groups and toxicity. Therefore, surface modification of CNTs to overcome these issues should be importance and of great interest. In this work, we reported for the first time that CNTs could be surface modification through the combination of Diels-Alder (D-A) reaction and redox polymerization, this strategy shows the advantages of mild reaction conditions, water tolerance, low temperature and hydroxyl-surfaced initiator. In this modification procedure, the hydroxyl groups were introduced on the surface of CNTs through the D-A reaction that was adopted for grafting the copolymers, which were initiated by the Ce(IV)/HNO 3 redox system using the hydrophilic and biocompatible poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (PEGMA) and carboxyl-rich acrylic acid (AA) as monomers. The final CNTs-OH-PAA@PEGMA composites were characterized by a series of characterization techniques. The drug loading and release results suggested that anticancer agent cis‑platinum (CDDP) could be loaded on CNTs-OH-PAA@PEGMA composites through coordination with carboxyl groups and drug release behavior could be controlled by pH. More importantly, the cell viability results clearly demonstrated that CNTs-OH-PAA@PEGMA composites displayed low toxicity and the drug could be transported in cells and still maintain their therapeutic effects.

Flexible transparent conducting films (TCFs) have attracted more and more attention for their wide range of potential applications. PEDOT: PSS, as a conductive polymer, have been widely used in TCFs for its potential to boost electricity and maintain higher transmittance. While, there are many problems to be solved urgently in the application of PEDOT: PSS in TCFs. Carbon nanotube (CNT) with excellent electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties is also important material for making TCFs. In this study, films formed by PEDOT: PSS hybrid CNTs are prepared by a simple spin coating process. The purpose of this combination is that CNTs are helps to maintain the overall conductance of the nanocomposite films or inhabit degradation of film performance once PEDOT: PSS degrades due to water absorption and aging, while maintaining high transmittance and low resistance. The ratio of PEDOT to PSS and the internal morphology of the PEDOT: PSS are changed by a two-step method of methanol and acid, which are beneficial to greatly reduce the sheet resistance, lower the roughness, and enhance the adhesion. Various test samples were characterized, and results show that TCFs prepared by PEDOT: PSS hybrid CNTs treated by a two-step method exhibit enhanced properties. The best performance of the film was found to be 65 Ω sq−1@92 T%. High transmittance, super strong adhesion, low roughness (2.82 nm), low sheet resistance and high resistance stability are all achieved at the same time, which is a great advantage to use the films as electrodes in various fields, such as OLEDs.

Si has become the most promising anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to its high theoretical specific capacity and comparable low discharge potential. However, the practical usage of Si is still hindered by its huge volume expansion. To release volume stress and improve conductance, designed self-supporting binder-free Si electrode endowed with three-dimensional structure has been come up in this research. The pore structure is adjusted by rationally designing the proportion of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and carbon nanofibers (CNFs) to alleviate volume change. Simultaneously, construct stable conductivity network was fabricated via ice crystal self-assemble freezing technique following compress and carbonization process. The electrochemical specific capacity of rGO@CNTs@CNFs@Si-2 electrode has stably remained at 2250 mAh/g after 100 cycles (100 mA/g) with benign rate capabilities. This simple self-assemble method for self-supporting binder-free Si electrode would open a new route to exploit high energy density Si-based electrode for flexible LIBs.

In the present work, novel single-source-precursors for CNTs/Fe3Si/Fe/SiOCN ceramic nanocomposites were synthesized by the reaction of poly(methylvinyl) silazane (HTT 1800) with ferric acetylacetonate [Fe(acac)3] and carboxylic functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs-COOH), which were characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared spectra. The microstructure, phase evolution, electromagnetic properties and electromagnetic microwave absorbing (EMA) performance of the as-prepared ceramics were investigated in detail. The results reveal that the introduced CNTs and the in situ formed nanocrystallites, including α-Fe, Fe3Si, α-Si3N4, β-Si3N4, Si2N2O, and SiC, are dispersed in an amorphous SiOCN matrix after annealing at 900–1500 °C. The obtained ceramic powders mixed with paraffin wax possess a very low minimum reflection coefficient of −65.3 dB and a broad effective absorption bandwidth of 6 GHz (12–18 GHz) with a thickness of 1.6 mm, indicating outstanding EMA performance. This is due to (i) the increase in interfacial polarization caused by the formation of multiple hetero-interfaces and (ii) the synergistic effect of magnetic and dielectric losses. Therefore, the multicomponent CNTs/Fe3Si/Fe/SiOCN ceramic nanocomposites have promising potential for thin and high-performance EMA materials applied in a harsh environment.

The rational design of high-performance nanozyme is of great significance in biosensors. Here, using zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) as the precursor, the Co nanoparticle/N-doped carbon nanotubes (Co/NCNT) with hollow core-shell structure were prepared by high temperature pyrolysis of ZIF-8@zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-8@ZIF-67), where ZIF-8@ZIF-67 was not only functionalized as the source of N and C for growth of NCNTs but also provided the template to form the hollow structures. Encapsulation of Co nanoparticles (NPs) in NCNT can effectively anchor active sites and avoid self-agglomeration. The synergistic effect of Co NPs and NCNT is beneficial to increasing the oxidase-mimicking activity significantly, while the hollow structure promotes the binding of the active sites with the substrate to increase the reaction rates. Hence, the Co/NCNT possessed oxidase-mimicking activity to catalyze colorless 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) without H 2 O 2 , while the blue TMB + can also quench the fluorescence of AuAg nanoclusters (NCs) by the internal filter effect. A colorimetric-fluorescence dual-mode immunosensor was established to achieve sensitive detection of ochratoxin A ( OTA) in a linear detection range from 0.001 to 10 μg/L with a low detection limit of 0.21 ng/L (colorimetric) and 0.17 ng/L (fluorescence), respectively. Due to the independence and mutual corroboration of the signals, the dual-mode immunoassay is more accurate and reliable than the single-mode immunoassay for OTA. Significantly, the strategy lays a solid foundation for the design of MOF-based nanozymes and innovative inspiration in food visual analysis.

MXene , a kind of booming two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials , has exhibited a promising application on free-standing high-performance supercapacitors. However, researches on MXene-based cathodes are still under development because its susceptibility to oxidation . Herein, a flexible free-standing polyaniline@MXene-carbon nanotubes (CNTs) film was prepared by a delicately-designed solvent-assisted self-assembly method followed with a vacuum filtration process. The zero-dimensional (0D) polyaniline (PANI) nanoparticle , which is often used as a cathode nanomaterial, was coated on the surface of 2D MXene nanosheets by solvent-assisted self-assembly to prevent MXene from oxidation and provide high specific capacitance simultaneously. The one-dimensional (1D) CNTs were introduced to endow the composite with well mechanical strength and flexibility. The ternary composite film delivers an excellent mechanical performance with a tensile strength of 99.4 MPa, a high specific capacitance of 463 F g −1 at 5 mV s −1 , and good cyclic stability with 92 % capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles. The asymmetric supercapacitor device assembled with the ternary composite film as cathode and the prepared free-standing MXene-CNTs as anode achieves a high energy density of 10 Wh kg −1 and an exceptional power density of 2808 W kg −1 .

Energy band structures greatly determine the charge separation and transfer properties in heterojunction photocatalysts and consequently their photocatalytic activities. Herein, a well-designed Z-scheme ZnIn 2 S 4 -S/CNTs/RP (ZIS-S/CNTs/RP) nanocomposite was fabricated according to an energy band alignment steering strategy to realize superior photocatalytic H 2 evolution performance. The ZIS-S/CNTs/RP nanocomposite shows an efficient photocatalytic H 2 evolution rate of 1639.9 μmol g -1 h −1 , which is noticeably higher than that of pristine red phosphorus (RP) and CNTs/RP and ZIS-S/RP composites, as well as those of the compared heterojunctions using bulk RP or ZnIn 2 S 4 . Owing to the modification of nanosized RP and the introduction of sulfur vacancies in ZnIn 2 S 4 , a tailored energy band alignment of the heterojunction with a higher reduction potential and larger Fermi level potential difference was achieved, which resulted in significantly increased photogenerated electron-hole separation efficiency and a more efficient Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism, thus promoting the photocatalytic activity of ZIS-S/CNTs/RP. This work aims to provide a novel effective strategy for the construction of high-performance heterojunction photocatalysts by energy band engineering.

Carbonaceous materials are promising electrode materials for enzymatic biofuel cells (EBFCs) due to their excellent electrical conductivity, chemical and physical stability and biocompatibility. Design and preparation of carbon materials with a hollow structure and a rough surface are of great significance for immobilization of enzymes both inside and outside the carbon materials for EBFC applications. We report herein the synthesis of novel carbonaceous materials consisting of bamboo-shaped hollow N-doped carbon nanotubes (N-CNTs) and C3N4 nanosheets (denoted as N-CNTs@C3N4) as electrode materials for dual-capture of enzymes in glucose/O2 EBFCs. The combination of one-dimensional N-CNTs with an open structure and two-dimensional C3N4 nanosheets forms a three-dimensional crosslinking network that significantly enhances the immobilization of enzymes, electrode stability, and mass transfer of substrates, thus boosting the EBFC performance. As a result, EBFCs equipped with N-CNTs@C3N4 can generate a high open circuit potential of 0.93 V and output a maximum power density of 0.57 mW cm−2 at 0.47 V. Additionally, the as-fabricated glucose/O2 EBFCs are capable of directly harvesting energy from various soft drinks, which indicates the promising applications of the N-CNTs@C3N4 nanocomposite as an electrode material for EBFCs.

A novel composite (CNTs-Fe 3 O 4 ) was synthesized by a ball-milling strategy and characterized by BET, SEM, FTIR , XRD and VSM. The as-fabricated CNTs-Fe 3 O 4 was used to remove six sulfonamides by a Fenton degradation process, including sulfanilamide (SAM), sulfamerazine (SMR), sulfadimethoxine (SMX), sulfadiazine (SDZ), sulfamethazine (SMT) and sulfametoxydiazine (SMD). The degradation behaviors of six sulfonamides in CNTs-Fe 3 O 4 /H 2 O 2 system and the relationship between molecular structure of sulfonamides and their degradation behaviors were investigated systematically. Batch experimental results showed that the as-fabricated CNTs-Fe 3 O 4 had excellent Fenton catalytic activity for the degradation of sulfonamides due to its unique porous structure and the good combination mode of CNTs with Fe 3 O 4 particles. The first-order kinetic mode could better describe the degradation behaviors of six sulfonamides in CNTs-Fe 3 O 4 /H 2 O 2 system, and the degradation rate constant could be ordered as: SAM < SMT < SDZ < SMR < SMD < SMX. The quantitative relationship between the Mulliken charge of sulfonamides (x) and their degradation rate constant (y) in CNTs-Fe 3 O 4 /H 2 O 2 system could be described as: y = - 28.719x + 15.67 (R 2 = 0.957). Finally, the possible synthesis mechanisms of CNTs-Fe 3 O 4 and the degradation mechanisms of sulfonamides in CNTs-Fe 3 O 4 /H 2 O 2 system was proposed.

In this work, a new nanocomposite based on octa-amino polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS), carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and chitosan (CS) was synthesized and used for wastewater treatment. The properties and morphologies of the prepared composite were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscope, thermogravimetric, and atomic force microscopy. The results showed that POSS, CNTs, and CS formed a stable composite through intermolecular forces, and the modification of CS by POSS and CNTs improved its stability. In addition, the obtained composite showed good adsorption performance for the degradation of methyl orange and Congo red dyes. The pseudo-first-order model and pseudo-second-order model were used to analyze the adsorption data, and the results showed that the adsorption process conforms to the kinetic model. Moreover, the maximum adsorption capacity of the composite to methyl orange and Congo red reached 63.23 and 314.97 mg/g, respectively. This work provides new ideas for the preparation of self-assembled multi-composite and their potential applications in wastewater treatment.
