In our research, rice husk ash (RHA) was employed as a catalyst support and Fe–Cu bimetallic compounds were employed as catalysts in the reduction of NO by CO. Rice husk ash contains abundant amorphous SiO2 and it would be a good catalyst support as indicated by the characterization results. Different combustion conditions were tested to obtain the appropriate rice husk ash. Characterization methods were employed to study its physical properties. The results of the catalytic activity testing experiment were highly in accordance with the characterization results. Fe2Cu1 based on rice husk ash had approximately 100% conversion rates for both NO and CO, which indicated the superiority of the rice husk ash and Fe–Cu oxides. Moreover, the O2 content, CO/NO ratio and SO2 had little influence on this new combination. This remarkable performance was due to the strong interaction between the rice husk ash and metal species. The results of our research will provide some instructions for the improvement of industrial denitrification.

Five types of Cu 2 ZnSn(S,Se) 4 (CZTSSe) films were fabricated by selenization of Cu 2 ZnSnS 4 (CZTS) precursor films preparing through Cu-Zn-Sn-S precursor solutions with nominal Cu + /(Cu + +Cu 2+ ) ratio of 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.8 and 1. Five types of CZTSSe solar cells were prepared by using the five types of CZTSSe films as absorbers, respectively. The crystal quality and phase composition of the CZTS and CZTSSe films were characterized by XRD, Raman and SEM, and the photovoltaic performance for the CZTSSe solar cells were measured by J-V and EQE. It is found that the CZTS film consists of kesterite CZTS when the ratio is 0 and of kesterite CZTS together with a small amount of SnS when the ratio is 0.2 to 1. All of the CZTSSe films are comprised of kesterite CZTSSe and a small amount of Zn(S,Se). The crystal quality and lattice constants of the kesterite CZTSSe increase with increasing the ratio, while the amount of Zn(S,Se) decreases with increasing the ratio and almost to zero as the ratio is 1. The power conversion efficiency ( PCE ) of the CZTSSe solar cells increases from 5.47% to 8.43% as the ratio increases from 0 to 1, which is due to improvement in short-circuit current density ( J sc ) and filling factor ( FF ) and decrease in open circuit voltage deficit ( V oc , def ). The influence mechanism of the ratio on the PCE is suggested by analyzing effect of the ratio on electrical parameters of the CZTSSe solar cells.

For oxide-supported metal catalysts, metal-support interaction (MSI) facilitates metal dispersion at the expense of the metallic character, resulting in a trade-off between active site utilization and intrinsic activity. Here, we used a thermal aging strategy to modulate the MSI in Cu/CeO 2 catalysts, facilitating the formation of metallic Cu sites upon H 2 reduction while maintaining metal dispersion. Systematic experiments confirmed that thermal aging at 800°C lowered the reduction temperature and increased the reduction degree of Cu sites. Microscopy evidenced few-atom-layered Cu nanoclusters before and after H 2 reduction, whereas in situ spectroscopy revealed metallic Cu nanoparticles under H 2 atmosphere. This discrepancy indicated a reversible structural evolution from aggregation to redispersion in thermally aged Cu/CeO 2 . The catalytic activity for acetylene semihydrogenation was unlocked on metallic Cu sites, compared to nearly inactive Cu sites in conventional Cu/CeO 2 counterparts. Our work developed an effective strategy for rational modulation of MSI, offering the feasibility to tailor-make active sites for specific reactions.

Abstract Facet engineering of Cu-based nanocatalysts is a promising strategy for regulating the selectivity of CO2 and CO electroreduction because surface atomic arrangements strongly influence intermediate adsorption and reaction pathways. Compared with low-index facets, high-index facets contain abundant steps, kinks, and low-coordinated atoms, providing diverse active ensembles that can facilitate CO adsorption and subsequent C–C coupling. However, the catalytic roles of high-index-faceted Cu nanocatalysts remain largely unexplored. Herein, tetrahexahedral (THH) and hexoctahedral (HOH) high-index-faceted Cu nanoparticles were integrated with a porous Ag foam to construct Cu/Ag tandem catalysts for CO2 electroreduction. The C2+ selectivity follows the order HOH Cu/Ag > THH Cu/Ag > non-facet-controlled Cu/Ag, with HOH Cu/Ag achieving the highest ethylene Faradaic efficiency of 60.37%. In situ spectroscopic measurements using HOH Cu/Ag as a representative high-index-faceted catalyst indicate the formation of abundant adsorbed CO and possible CO-derived coupling intermediates within the potential range associated with pronounced ethylene production. Stability measurements further show that the morphology and catalytic selectivity are largely retained under moderate operating conditions, whereas more negative potentials induce surface roughening and gradual performance decay. This work provides a platform for investigating morphology-dependent selectivity in high-index-faceted Cu catalysts during CO2 electroreduction.

The NH3-SCR activities and hydrothermal stabilities of fivexCu/MCM-22 zeolites with different Cu loadings (x= 2–10 wt%) prepared by incipient wetness impregnation method were systematically investigated. The physicochemical properties ofxCu/MCM-22 zeolites were analyzed by XRD, nitrogen physisorption, ICP-AES, SEM, NH3-TPD, UV-vis, H2-TPR and XPS experiments. The Cu species existing inxCu/MCM-22 are mainly isolated Cu2+, CuOxand unreducible copper species. The concentrations of both isolated Cu2+and CuOxspecies inxCu/MCM-22 increase with Cu contents, but the increment of CuOxspecies is more distinct, especially in high Cu loadings (>4 wt%). NH3-SCR experimental results demonstrated that the activity ofxCu/MCM-22 is sensitive to Cu content at low Cu loadings (≤4 wt%). When the Cu loading exceeds 4 wt%, the NH3-SCR activity ofxCu/MCM-22 is irrelevant to Cu content due to the severe pore blockage effects caused by aggregated CuOxspecies. Among the fivexCu/MCM-22 zeolites, 4Cu/MCM-22 with moderate Cu content has the best NH3-SCR performance, which displays higher than 80% NOxconversions in a wide temperature window (160–430 °C). Furthermore, the hydrothermal aging experiments (xCu/MCM-22 was treated at 750 °C for 10 h under 10% water vapor atmosphere) illustrated that all thexCu/MCM-22 zeolites exhibit high hydrothermal stability in NH3-SCR reactions.Keywords:Cu/MCM-22;NH3-SCR;Cu loading;hydrothermal aging

Hierarchical Cu/Cu(OH)2 nanorod arrays grown on commercially available Cu foam (Cu/Cu(OH)2 NRA/CF) was prepared via a three-step strategy involving the wet chemical synthesis of Cu(OH)2 NRA/CF, a chemical reduction reaction for conversion from Cu(OH)2 NRA/CF to Cu NRA/CF, and finally galvanostatic anodization to grow Cu(OH)2 nanoparticles on Cu NRA/CF. Hierarchical Cu/Cu(OH)2 NRA/CF shows high catalytic activity towards glucose oxidation in an alkaline solution and can serve as a promising electrode material for enzyme-free glucose sensing. At an applied potential of +0.5 V, the sensor showed a broad detection range of 0.001–1.0 mM, a high sensitivity of 9.18 mA mM−1 cm−2, and a low detection limit of 0.45 μM (S/N = 3). Furthermore, the sensor exhibits excellent selectivity against common interferents and good reliability for glucose detection in human serum samples.

The removal of carbon monoxide (CO) from sintering flue gases remains a significant challenge in industrial gas purification, requiring efficient catalytic systems. This study explores the use of TiO 2 synthesized under supercritical conditions in copper-based catalysts for low-temperature CO oxidation. Experimental results showed enhanced catalytic activity, with complete CO conversion at 120°C, primarily due to a higher Cu⁺ concentration in the catalyst. Characterization techniques (XPS, EPR, CO-DRIFT) confirmed a substantial increase in the Cu⁺ ratio in Cu/sc-TiO 2 (78%) compared to Cu/TiO 2 (71%) before thermal treatment. Additionally, the Cu/sc-TiO 2 -A catalyst exhibited smaller particle size and better dispersion, which contributed to the elevated Cu⁺ ratio after preheating. Thermal treatment increased the Cu⁺ ratio by 11% in Cu/sc-TiO 2 -A, compared to just 3% in Cu/TiO 2 -A, leading to a final Cu⁺ ratio of 89%, which enhanced catalytic activity. DRIFT and TPSR analyses indicated that the Cu/sc-TiO 2 catalyst generated CO during heat treatment, creating a micro-reduction environment that optimized copper valence states and active sites. This study highlights the potential of continuous hydrothermal flow synthesis for modulating catalyst valence states in industrial applications.

Benzohydroxamic acid (BHA) is intensively used as collector in the mineral processing industry, and thus tremendous hazardous beneficiation wastewater containing BHA organic contaminant needs urgent treatment. In this work, an efficient removal of BHA organic contaminants from various industrial beneficiation wastewaters via the chelation, flocculation, and precipitation flotation process was studied. The removal efficiency of BHA, COD and turbidity of the purified water, and the chelation mechanism were investigated by optical microscope, SEM, FTIR, XPS, Zeta potential, and thermodynamic analyses. The results showed that organic BHA contaminant can be chelated firstly by Cu(II) to form hydrophobic BHA-Cu precipitate effectively via the “O-O” chelation and a five-membered chelation ring was formed under weak alkaline conditions. The generated precipitate was then successfully removed using CTAB as surfactant and NP-40 as frother in a microbubble flotation column. Over 94% BHA was removed under the optimal chelation, flocculation and flotation conditions: chelation with Cu(II) concentration of 30 mg/L and pH of 8 for 30 min; flocculation with CTAB concentration of 0.2 mg/L for 20 min; followed by flotation with NP-40 frother of 0.6 mg /L and air flow rate of 100 mL/min for over 40 min. Under this condition, 83.91% COD was removed, and the residuel COD and turbidity of the purified water were lower than 25 mg/L and 0.1 NTU, respectively, which met the wastewater discharge requirement. It’s demonstrated that the precipitate flotation can be employed as an effective method to purify industrial wastewater containing BHA. In addition, the interaction mechanism of Cu(II) and BHA under different pH values was also discussed in this work.

Copper (Cu) powder, valued for its exceptional conductivity and low cost. However, their applications suffer from severe oxidation. Existing organic modification strategies overlook the intrinsic surface energy anisotropy of Cu, inadequately suppressing initial oxidation at high-active sites and consequently poor oxidation resistance. To address this limitation, this work proposes a priority targeted passivation of high-activity facets strategy. This approach recognizes that high-activity sites on Cu surfaces serve as primary triggers for oxidation reactions, by preferentially blocking O 2 dissociation at these active sites, oxidation can be substantially suppressed. Three environmentally friendly modifiers — stearic acid (SA), oleic acid (OA), and 1-dodecanethiol (1-D) were screened for surface modification. Systematically investigated how their facet-selective adsorption regulates oxidation pathways in Cu particles. While OA preferentially adsorb onto high-activity Cu (220) facets, effectively inhibiting O 2 dissociation at these critical sites and suppressing oxidation at its source. OA-modified Cu powder preserved 63.40 % metallic Cu after 180°C/8h sintering and remained unoxidized after 180 days in air exposure, demonstrating exceptional antioxidation performance. This study establishes that prioritized passivation of highly energy facets is essential for enhancing the oxidation resistance of Cu powders.

Cu and graphene oxide composites (Cu-GO) were designed by anchoring Cu + via oxygen groups in GO based on the heavy co-relationships of copper (Cu) anode electrocatalytic activity with Cu valence state. With the consumption of oxygen groups under various pyrolysis temperatures, the Cu valence state changed from Cu ions (as CuCl 2 and CuCl) to Cu oxide (CuO and Cu 2 O) and the final metallic Cu. In which the Cu + in CuCl was more favorable for electrocatalytic oxidation than other Cu valence states. Due to the dramatic contribution of 1 O 2 and active chlorine, 100% degradation efficiency was achieved using tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) as the target pollutant. Cu + showed a selective preference for 1 O 2 and active chlorine triggering, rather than metallic Cu. Under the attack of 1 O 2 and active chlorine, the degradation intermediates of TCH were then provided by LC-MS results. The final results not only prove the feasibility of the Cu-GO/electrocatalysis system for pollution control but also shed light on the anode design via Cu valence state modulation.

Ergothioneine (ESH) is one of the most abundant antioxidants in the human body, but its biological functions remain unclear. In this work, we elucidated the detailed mechanism of the deactivation of divalent copper ions Cu(II) by ESH using optical spectroscopy, NMR, and LC-MS. We found that the reduction of Cu(II) ions to Cu(I) by ESH occurs in a bimolecular reaction of CuII(ES−)2complexes, leading to the formation of the disulfide ESSE. Cu(I) ions remain bound in stable complexes with ESH, preventing their reactions with molecular oxygen. Over longer timescales, ESSE decomposes, regenerating reduced ESH and forming the final reaction product, hercynine (EH). The conversion of one ESH molecule to EH causes the reduction of four Cu(II) ions. We determined the rate constants of the bimolecular reaction between CuII(ES−)2complexes to be k3= (8 ± 4) × 104M−1s−1and of ESSE hydrolysis to be k4= (1.7 ± 0.4) × 10−5s−1and also estimated the formation constant K12≈ 1.2 × 1017M−2for the CuII(ES−)2complex. The high efficiency of Cu(II) reduction and the chelation of the resulting Cu(I) ions in a stable complex supports the hypothesis that protecting cells from oxidation by metal ions is likely one of the main functions of ESH.

Photocatalytic CO2reduction into CH4is a promising route for solar fuel production, but its efficiency is still limited by poor charge separation, insufficient CO2activation, and sluggish multi-electron transfer kinetics. Herein, Cu-modified TiO2(Cu/TiO2) was prepared by calcining a Cu-modified defective MIL-125(Ti) precursor, denoted as Cu-MIL-125, through a temperature-controlled calcination strategy. The effects of calcination temperature on the structural evolution, surface chemical states, interfacial charge transport, and CO2photoreduction performance were examined. These results indicated that the Cu/TiO2was successfully prepared, while the crystallinity, porous structure, and interfacial electronic properties of Cu/TiO2were strongly dependent on the calcination temperature. Among the obtained samples, the Cu/TiO2sample obtained by calcining Cu-MIL-125 at 450 °C (450 Cu/TiO2) exhibited the highest CH4formation rate, reaching 15.90 μmol g−1h−1, corresponding to an approximately 9.8-fold enhancement over TiO2calcined from defective MIL-125(Ti) at 450 °C, together with a high CH4selectivity of 93.05%. Control experiments and13CO2isotope-labeling tests confirmed that the detected carbon-containing products were generated from CO2under photocatalytic conditions. In situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy measurements further revealed the formation of carbonate, bicarbonate and hydrogenated carbon-containing intermediates during the reaction. This work offers a practical route for constructing metal–organic framework-derived Cu/TiO2photocatalysts for selective CH4production from CO2.
