The exploration of clean, environmentally friendly, efficient and economical metal electrocatalysts is becoming more and more in-depth, but catalyst activity and stability are still the main goals. Herein, a thin regular pentagonal rough nanosheet array (La-CoNiOOH@FeSe@NiSe/NF) grown on a three-dimensional porous conductive surface was designed and synthesized. The prepared electrode material exhibited good catalytic activity in 1 M KOH solution, required only 270 mV of overpotential to provide 10 mA cm−2 current density for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), and showed excellent stability for at least 90 hours during the OER process. The characterization test results proved that the incorporation of La changed the surface electronic structure, optimized the interface, modulated the active site on the surface of the material, and exposed a large number of active sites, thus improving the activity and stability of the catalyst material. At the same time, such a rough surface also gives the material excellent wettability and anti-bubble adhesion, which is also a key factor in maintaining the catalytic activity and OER stability of the material. This method provides a new idea for developing an efficient and economical electrolytic hydroelectricity catalyst.

The enhancement and removal of rare earth ions from wastewater resources have emerged as a crucial study to ensure the superior quality of rare earth resources application. In this work, amide humic acid-coated Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4@AHA MNPs) were fabricated by chemical coprecipitation hydrothermal technique. The fabricated nanoparticles showed excellent stability in aqueous solutions. They could be easily collected from solutions using a magnetic separation strategy. Adsorption studies were used to investigate the adsorption performance of Fe3O4@AHA MNPs for La (III) under a variety of circumstances. Furthermore, isothermal adsorption lines and kinetic and thermodynamic modeling were used to examine the adsorption mechanism of La (III). Results revealed that Fe3O4@AHA MNPs had a high adsorption capacity of 148.83 mg g−1 and adsorption equilibrium was attained after 45 min when the adsorbent dose was 20 mg at pH 6. Fe3O4@AHA MNPs demonstrated high reusability for La (III), retaining 78.5% of initial adsorption capability after five cycles. Finally, the fabricated Fe3O4@AHA MNPs was successfully employed and applied to remove La (III) from industrial wastewater samples. According to these results, the Fe3O4@AHA MNPs have potential to be a useful material for enrichment and preconcentration of La (III) or other trivalent lanthanides from wastewater.

Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are attractive candidates for hybrid supercapacitor cathodes due to their high theoretical capacitance. However, their practical application is hindered by insufficient achievable capacity and compromised cycling stability caused by irreversible phase transitions. Herein, we developed a quaternary NiCoScLa-LDH via a one-pot hydrothermal method by co-doping scandium (Sc) and lanthanum (La) into NiCo-LDHs. Systematic investigation of trimetallic NiCoLa-LDH revealed that single La doping effectively increases specific capacity (745.2 C g −1 at 1 A g −1 ), while its large ionic radius induces structural instability, leading to rapid capacity decay (50 % capacity retention after 1500 cycles). First-principles calculations demonstrate that Sc doping clearly suppresses the deformation of the hexagonal structure of NiCoLa-LDH. Furthermore, La and Sc co-doping synergistically modulates the chemical coordination environments of Ni/Co and reduces the bandgap, thereby facilitating electrochemical reaction kinetics. The optimized NiCoScLa-LDH exhibits superior electrochemical performance, delivering a high specific capacitance of 744.2 C g −1 at 1 A g −1 , remarkable rate capability (75 % capacitance retention at 10 A g −1 ), and long-term durability (82 % capacity retention after 15,000 cycles). When assembled into a hybrid supercapacitor, the material achieves a maximum energy density of 45.6 Wh kg −1 at 410 W kg −1 and outstanding cycling stability (100 % capacitance retention after 45,000 cycles). This work provides fundamental insights into rational multi-element doping strategies for designing high-performance LDH-based supercapacitor cathodes.

Visible-light photocatalyst of TiO2/La/Ag nanocomposites were successfully synthesized via the conventional sol–gel method and reducing agent of Ag+. The photocatalytic activities were evaluated by methyl orange (MO) degradation. They have remarkable photocatalytic
activities compared to TiO2-Anatase, which is thanks to the separation of electron–hole pairs by Ag nanoparticles and lanthanum. The products were characterized by a series of techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM),
transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and Uv-vis. The results show that spherical nanocomposites have been prepared with the size 300 nm and Ag nanoparticles (∼10 nm) are dispersed uniformly onto the surface of TiO2/La,
which forms TiO2/La/Ag nanocomposites. TiO2/La/Ag nanocomposites have good absorption in the visible region (700 nm > > > 400 nm). The reasons are as follows: (1) the efficient separation of photogenerated electrons and holes of the photocatalysts on the surface
of TiO2/La/Ag nanocomposites and (2) a wide visiblelight photoabsorption range (700 nm > > 400 nm). Therefore, this study may provide some new idea for the rational design and the facile synthesis of composite catalysts with a green, efficient pathway.

Laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) has been widely used for in situ microanalysis of elemental concentrations in solid samples, but its application is hampered by a lack of matrix-matched and homogeneous reference materials (RMs). In this work, a new method for preparing matrix-matched and homogeneous LA-ICP-MS reference materials has been developed. A multiple rare earth element (REE) doped CaWO4 single crystal (CaW-1) was successfully prepared by the Czochralski technique. The matrix composition and crystal structure were confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electron microprobe analysis (EMPA), which indicates that these crystals have a matrix composition of CaWO4 and are matrix-matched with natural scheelite. The homogeneity of REE distribution was systematically studied by seven methods and the results demonstrated that REEs are distributed homogeneously in the CaWO4 single crystal with slight fluctuation (RSDs: ca. 4%). It can be concluded that the synthesized CaWO4 single crystal meets both crucial requirements, matrix-matched and homogeneous distribution, for an LA-ICP-MS reference material, and therefore it was used to quantitatively calibrate REE concentrations in natural scheelite. The results showed that acceptable analytical errors (<8%) were obtained, which were more desirable than those obtained with non-matrix-matched NIST SRM 610 as the RM. It robustly validates the ability of the developed method for preparing CaWO4 single crystals as possible LA-ICP-MS reference materials to calibrate REE concentrations in natural scheelite.

One-dimensional mesoporous Zr/La bimetallic hydroxide fibers (ZLFs) were prepared for the first time, by one-step electrospinning and high-pressure steam heat-treatment method, and they were used for effective removal of phosphate. The as-obtained fibers had a homogeneous composition and a large surface area, and they benefited from the high-pressure steam heat-treatment. Optimum heat-treatment conditions were confirmed, and the special hydrolysis mechanism in fibers and the Zr/La hydroxides formation process were analyzed. ZLFs with maximum surface area of 233.31 m 2 /g were obtained at a Zr/La mole ratio of 0.4:0.6. Influence of the Zr/La mole ratio of fibers on the adsorption property was examined; an impressive phosphate adsorption performance was observed with saturated adsorption capacity reaching 453.63 mg/g at a Zr/La mole ratio of 0.5:0.5. Notably, the ZLFs exhibited great anti-interference abilities against co-existing ions and pH values, along with good recycling performance. In summary, the ZLFs, produced via an easy method, with outstanding adsorption performance and high reusability, have great potential as adsorbents in the phosphate adsorption field.

The plasma catalytic direct oxidation of methane into the value-added chemical methanol over LaZnAl catalyst was investigated under mild condition. The synergistic effect between plasma and the LaZnAl catalyst was achieved. The electronic interaction of La-Zn facilitated the formation of oxygen vacancies, and promoted the utilization of the plasmaactivated O radicals, and enhanced the formation rate of the key intermediate CH3O species, thereby leading to low apparent activation energies for methane conversion and methanol production. The interaction of La-Zn species resulted in a significantly enhanced contribution of 89.6% to methanol formation, whereas the contribution of Zn alone was only 23.7%, and that of La was even negative (-32.9%). Consequently, methanol production was markedly improved and a methanol selectivity of 40.9% was achieved over the LaZnAl catalyst, compared to 26.7% for ZnAl and 14.5% for LaAl.

Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) ceramic-based flow passage components are highly susceptible to cavitation erosion. To counter this limitation, rare-earth oxide (REO, RE=La, Ce, Nd, Gd) doped YSZ with superior cavitation erosion resistance was successfully prepared using spark plasma sintering technology. The microstructures, phase compositions, mechanical properties, and cavitation erosion resistance of YSZ and REYSZ were investigated. The results indicate that REO doping promoted the generation of t'- and c-phases, leading to a denser structure and grain refinement. Moreover, the presence of a larger concentration of the t'-phase resulted in a higher microhardness and elastic modulus. Owing to its superior mechanical properties, fine grains and high density, REYSZ exhibited improved cavitation erosion resistance. Particularly, NdYSZ exhibited 12.4 times higher cavitation-erosion resistance than that of YSZ. Furthermore, the grain boundaries of YSZ contain special m-phase bands, which are also responsible for the quicker exfoliation of grains during cavitation erosion. The segregation of rare earth elements at the grain boundaries inhibited the generation of m-phase bands, resulting in a longer cavitation erosion incubation period for REYSZ.

Due to its high theoretical capacity (∼280 mA h g−1), lithium vanadium oxide (LiV3O8) is considered a promising electrode material for meeting the demands for a longer battery life. However, it still suffers from an inferior cycling stability and rate properties. Benefitting from the unique traits of rare earth metal La, La-doping was introduced to V-sites, leading to an expansion of the lattice volume and reduced particle size, and bringing about more oxygen defects for fast ion redox reactions. The considerable discharge capacity of optimized La-doped LiV3O8 could reach up to 308 mA h g−1, and the capacity could be kept at 252 mA h g−1 after numerous loops. Supported by a detailed analysis of the capacity curves, an improved redox activity of V5+ was strongly demonstrated. Moreover, compared to the basic materials, an increasing rate capacity located in the low potential range was detected, ascribed to the existence of an oxygen vacancy, enabling a reduction in the energy barrier and a broadening of the energy distribution. Interestingly, La-doping could ultimately improve the capacity and is thus worth further exploration, particularly for the design of advanced cathodic materials.

Photocatalytic fibrous membranes are regarded as one of the most proficient materials for environmental remediation because of their excellent photocatalytic activity, porous structure, and outstanding recyclability. However, the poor dispersion performance of photocatalysts in the polymer matrix and the low migration ability to the surface constrain the development of this technology. In this study, a versatile strategy was developed to facilitate the design of hydrophilic nanofibrous membranes with promising photocatalytic activity and robust recyclability by combining the loaded rare earth element La 3+ modified TiO 2 photocatalyst, introducing hyperbranched polymers as dispersants within electro-centrifugal spinning, and applying post-treatment to construct hydrophilic sites. Significantly, the removal efficiency of the fibrous membrane materials on the dye wastewater was as high as 89.34 %, and the treatment efficiency can still reach 81.68 % after five cycles. In addition, the photocatalytic mechanism for the degradation of organic pollutants was also analyzed. This work provides a new method for building advanced photocatalytic nanofibrous membranes, which is expected to be used in the treatment and remediation of environmental wastewater.

Ce 3+ in CeO 2 , rather than Ce 4+ , is believed to provide assistance to the breaking up of Si O bond during chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) of silica. In the paper, lanthanide metals (La, Nd and Yb) doped CeO 2 nanoparticles were synthesized by modified incipient impregnation method in order to improve the content of Ce 3+ in CeO 2 as polishing. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) experiments and density function theory (DFT) calculation demonstrate this approach could achieve surface doping of CeO 2 nanoparticles, and facilitates the formation of oxygen vacancy and Ce 3+ content. CMP experiments show that the polishing rate and the surface quality of silica wafer are obviously improved by using the doped CeO 2 as abrasive particles. Especially for Nd/CeO 2 , content of Ce 3+ increases from 0.146 to 0.235, the polishing rate of silica is accelerated by 29.6% in alkaline slurries, and a better surface quality (Sa = 9.6 Å) is obtained.

NaNbO \(_{3}\) , as a typical lead-free perovskite ferroelectric, holds great potential for energy storage and electromechanical applications, whereas the synergistic regulation of lattice dynamics by La doping, temperature, and pressure remains poorly understood. Here, we systematically investigate La \(^{3+}\) -doped NaNbO \(_{3}\) ceramics via Rietveld refinement and multi-stimuli Raman spectroscopy. La \(^{3+}\) substitution induces lattice distortion and oxygen vacancies, driving a structural transition from an ordered orthorhombic ferroelectric phase to a disordered ergodic relaxor state, where \(\textit{x}\) = 0.08 serves as a metastable boundary with maximal lattice disorder and superior external-field sensitivity. Temperature-dependent Raman results reveal a successive \(\textrm{NR} \rightarrow \textrm{ER} \rightarrow \textrm{SPE}\) structural evolution, while variable-pressure Raman identifies a unique B-site order–disorder–reorder transition, with the \(\textit{x}\) = 0.08 composition exhibiting distinctive two-stage softening–hardening behavior. The established temperature–composition phase diagram enables systematic dielectric performance optimization, and the emergent metastable state at \(\textit{x}\) = 0.08 provides a critical structural guideline for designing high-performance lead-free ceramics for energy storage, sensing, and actuation applications.
