Repolarizing the tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) towards the antitumoral M1-like phenotype has been a promising approach for cancer immunotherapy . However, the anti-cancer immune response is severely limited mainly by the repolarized M1-like macrophages belatedly returning to the M2-like phenotype (i.e., negative feedback). Inspired by nitric oxide (NO) effectively preventing repolarization of inflammatory macrophages in inflammatory diseases, herein, we develop an arginine assembly, as NO nano-donor for NO generation to prevent the negative feedback of the macrophage repolarization. The strategy is to first apply reversible tagging of hydrophobic terephthalaldehyde to create an arginine nano-assembly, and then load a toll-like receptor 7/8 agonist resiquimod (R848) (R848@Arg). Through this strategy, a high loading efficiency of 40 % for the arginine and repolarization characteristics for TAMs can be achieved. Upon the macrophage repolarization by R848, NO can be intracellularly generated from the released arginine by the upregulated inducible nitric oxide synthase. Mechanistically, NO effectively prevented the negative feedback of the repolarized macrophage by mitochondrial dysfunction via blocking oxidative phosphorylation . Notably, R848@Arg significantly increased the tumor inhibition ratio by 3.13-fold as compared to the free R848 by maintaining the M1-like phenotype infiltrating into tumor. The Arg-assembly as NO nano-donor provides a promising method for effective repolarization of macrophages.

In this paper, a sol–gel made Ce–O–P catalyst (referred to as Ce–O–P-SG) was employed for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with NH3, which was directly compared with two other Ce–O–P samples as synthesized via hydrothermal and coprecipitation routes (referred to as Ce–O–P-HT and Ce–O–P-CP, respectively). Experimental results revealed that the Ce–O–P-SG catalyst yielded a more than 90% NO conversion at 200 °C in the presence of 10 vol % H2O, whereas Ce–O–P-HT and Ce–O–P-CP catalysts only showed 50% and 20% NO conversions under the same conditions, respectively. After subjected to a series of characterization technologies (e.g., XRD, BET-BJH, XPS, NH3-TPD, py-IR, and H2-TPR), it was found that more enriched surface Ce(4+) species were formed except for the two main CePO4 phases (monazite and rhabdophane phases) of the Ce–O–P-SG catalyst compared to the other two samples, resulting in the increase of surficial active oxygen ions content. This could lead to an enhancement in surface acidity and redox capacity of the Ce–O–P-SG catalyst, effectively promoting the NH3–SCR activity of the catalyst. Further analyses on SO2 and H2O tolerance revealed that the Ce–O–P-SG possessed a higher sulfur resistance than the other two samples, which could be attributed to the SO2 trapping effect by the abundant active oxygen species over Ce–O–P-SG catalyst.

A mild in-situ deposition method was used to fabricate Mn-based catalysts on a UiO-66 carrier for the selective catalytic reduction of NO by NH 3 (NH 3 -SCR). The catalyst with 8.5 wt-% MnO
x
loading had the highest catalytic activity for NH 3 -SCR with a wide temperature window (100–290 °C) for 90% NO conversion. Characterization of the prepared MnO
x
/UiO-66 catalysts showed that the catalysts had the crystal structure and porosity of the UiO-66 carrier and that the manganese particles were well-distributed on the surface of the catalyst. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis showed that there are strong interactions between the MnO
x
and the Zr oxide secondary building units of the UiO-66 which has a positive effect on the catalytic activity. The 8.5 wt-% MnO
x
catalyst maintained excellent activity during a 24-h stability test and exhibited good resistance to SO 2 poisoning.

CeO 2 /Al 2 O 3 catalysts prepared by three methods were investigated for selective reduction of NO with NH 3 . It was found that the catalyst prepared by the single step sol–gel method had the best SCR activity and SO 2 resistance performance. From the results of BET, XRD, TPD and TPR, it can be concluded that large surface area, strong interaction, highly dispersed nano-crystalline ceria , high NH 3 adsorption capacity and good redox ability might be the main reasons for the excellent performance of CeO 2 /Al 2 O 3 catalyst prepared by the single step sol–gel method.

Nitric oxide (NO) is key free-radical messenger and neuronal signal which is closely related to many brain diseases. It is a challenge to develop a sensitive and reliable biosensor for in vivo monitoring of NO in the brain. In this research, a simple ratiometric electrochemical biosensor for NO monitoring in rat brain following cerebral ischemia was developed using a carbon nanotube fiber (CNF) modified with hemin, in which the CNF not only served as a platform to assemble the hemin molecule, but greatly facilitated the electron transfer of hemin on to the electrode surface. Additionally, the hemin molecule was found to play dual roles: as a stable catalyst for the reduction of NO for selective detection of NO at −0.67 V versus silver/silver chloride, as well as an inner reference element to provide a built-in correction, to avoid the interference from the complicated brain environment. The developed ratiometric biosensor can detect NO with a linear range from 25 to 1000 nM, with a low limit of detection down to 10 nM, which fulfills the requirements for in vivo measurement of NO. The remarkable analytical performance of the present biosensor, as well as the long-term stability and good reproducibility established this as a reliable approach for in vivo monitoring of NO in the hippocampus of rat brains following cerebral ischemia. This is the first report that the average level of NO increased from 61 ± 23 nM to 141 ± 18 nM after cerebral ischemia for 15 min.

The pursuit of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals necessitates flexible operation and deep peaking of coal-fired units, thus placing heightened demands on nitrogen oxide (NO X ) emission control. Fly ash, a solid waste rich in silicon (Si) and aluminum (Al), should be fully leveraged, and the high-value synthesis of zeolite represents a viable utilization method. In this context, fly ash-based zeolite was prepared as a catalyst to facilitate the generation of active oxides from H 2 O 2 , combined with alkali solution absorption, to achieve efficient denitrification. This approach effectively transforms ‘waste to pollution’ mitigation. The optimal synthesis conditions for FA-ZSM-5 zeolite were established using the alkali fusion hydrothermal synthesis method, with fly ash as the raw material. The specified conditions were NaOH/FA = 1.2, SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 = 40, H 2 O/Al 2 O 3 = 1325, TPAOH/Al 2 O 3 = 10, ZSM-5-seed addition of 5 %, and a hydrothermal temperature and time of 140 °C for 24 h. Experimental parameters were meticulously investigated to ascertain their impact on nitric oxide (NO) removal efficiency. The highest removal efficiency was achieved under specific conditions: a reaction temperature of 140 °C, an H 2 O 2 concentration of 6 %, a catalyst dose of 0.3 g, an NO concentration of 600 mg/m 3 , and an SO 2 concentration of 1000 mg/m 3 . Finally, analysis of the catalytic oxidation mechanism revealed that H 2 O 2 , when catalyzed by FA-ZSM-5 zeolite, generates ·OH radicals with strong oxidizing properties, thereby facilitating the oxidative removal of NO.

Nitric oxide (NO) and S-nitrosothiol (SNO) are signal molecules and the products of nitrogen metabolism. Nitrate (NO 3 − ) is the main nitrogen source, and nitrate transporters (NRTs) are responsible for NO 3 − absorption or transport. However, the interactive effect between NO 3 − /NRT and NO/SNO in tree plants remains ambiguous. In the present study, 25 mmol L −1 NO 3 − and 1 mmol L −1 NO donor sodium nitroprusside (SNP) treatment that was conducted for 24 h enhanced NO/SNO and NO 3 − metabolism, whereas 2.5 mmol L −1 NO 3 − and 80 μmol L −1 N6022 (a compound that increases SNO content) treatment reduced them in seedling leaves of Fraxinus mandshurica and Betula platyphylla . Among the nine NRT family members examined, the gene expression level of NRT2.1 had a greater response to NO/SNO and NO 3 − treatment in the seedling leaves of F. mandshurica and B. platyphylla . Meanwhile, FmNRT2.1 mediated NO and SNO production in seedling leaves of F. mandshurica using Agrobacterium -mediated transient transformation. These findings shed light on the reciprocal regulation between NO 3 − and NO/SNO in seedlings of F. mandshurica and B. platyphylla , and NRT2.1 may act as a key regulatory hub.

Fe(II)EDTA can remove NO efficiently, but it has not been industrially applied. This is because the oxygen present in the flue gas will oxidize Fe(II)EDTA and Fe(II)EDTA-NO to Fe(III)EDTA and deactivate them. In order to solve this problem, this paper innovatively proposes to use NaHS to reduce Fe(III) EDTA, because NaHS has high reducing ability and low price. Therefore, a series of experimental conditions were explored in order to obtain the best reaction setup. The results indicate that increasing the concentrations of NaHS, temperature, and pH enhances the rate of NaHS reduction. The mechanism of the increase in reduction rate was studied in depth using potentiometric titration. It was found that an increase in OH - concentration will generate S 8 precipitate, which is beneficial to the forward progress of the reaction and promotes the large-scale production of the active component Fe 2+ . Oxygen is an inevitable factor in actual flue gas, so this study innovatively proposed a kinetic model under aerobic conditions and used this model to predict the trend of Fe(III)EDTA reduction by NaHS. On this basis, NO removal experiments were conducted under high oxygen conditions. After 15 cycles, the reduction performance of NaHS was still very high, and the NO removal rate was higher than 70%. The reason for this phenomenon is that the stabilizer exists in a form that is conducive to the removal of NO by the active component Fe 2+ . Therefore, this study provides theoretical guidance for promoting the industrial application of Fe(II) EDTA technology for NO removal.

The hyperglycemic microenvironment of diabetic chronic wounds is a major driver of severe bacterial infections, excessive inflammatory responses, and impaired angiogenesis, all of which delay wound healing. To address these challenges, we prepared a glucose oxidase (GOx)–loaded zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (GOx@ZIF-8). Furthermore, a multifunctional hydrogel (AACZ) was fabricated by incorporating 5-methylfurfural– and L-arginine–grafted alginate and maleimide–grafted chondroitin sulfate with GOx@ZIF-8 through the Diels–Alder reaction. Results showed that immobilized GOx remained active for a longer time than of free GOx. At the wound site, GOx catalyzed the conversion of excess glucose to gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ). The reduced pH in the local region induced Zn 2+ release from zeolitic imidazolate framework-8, simultaneously, H 2 O 2 mediated the generation of nitric oxide (NO) from L-arginine. The synergy between Zn 2+ and NO endowed AACZ with excellent antibacterial properties. The biocompatible hydrogel promoted cell proliferation and migration, regulated local blood glucose levels, inhibited bacterial activity, alleviated inflammation and promoted angiogenesis and collagen deposition at the diabetic wound site. These findings suggest that AACZ holds promise as a responsive dressing material in healing for complex wounds.

Due to the nearly identical chemical properties of Lu and Yb, the production of no-carrier-added (NCA)177Lu faces significant challenges in their separation. Achieving efficient and streamlined separation of Lu and Yb is crucial for the production of NCA177Lu. This study systematically investigated the separation performance of the commercial Rext-P350 extraction resin for Lu and Yb. Static adsorption experiments revealed that, at a solid–liquid ratio of 8 g/L, both Lu3+and Yb3+were nearly completely adsorbed, with saturation adsorption capacities of 25.8 mg/g and 21.5 mg/g, respectively. An increase in the nitric acid concentration in the aqueous phase significantly inhibited adsorption, but the separation factor for Lu3+/Yb3+remained above 1.88. The adsorption kinetics followed a pseudo-second-order model (R2> 0.99), with equilibrium reached within 15 min, demonstrating fast adsorption kinetics. Characterization by SEM, FT-IR, and XPS confirmed the chemical coordination between the resin and Lu3+/Yb3+. Dynamic chromatographic separation experiments showed that the Rext-P350 resin exhibited significantly better separation performance for Lu3+/Yb3+compared to 2-ethylhexylphosphoric acid mono-2-ethylhexyl ester (P507) extraction resin. Leveraging the excellent performance of Rext-P350 resin, a two-stage continuous extraction chromatography process was designed, achieving efficient separation of 0.045 mg of Lu3+from 200 mg of Yb3+with a Lu3+purity of 90.9% and a yield of 98.4%. This study provides a feasible separation technique for the purification of NCA177Lu.

Purpose: Owing to its noninvasive nature, broad-spectrum effectiveness, minimal bacterial resistance, and high efficiency, phototherapy has significant potential for antibiotic-free antibacterial interventions and combating antibacterial biofilms. However, finding effective strategies to mitigate the detrimental effects of excessive temperature and elevated concentrations of reactive oxygen species (ROS) remains a pressing issue that requires immediate attention. Methods: In this study, we designed a pH-responsive cationic polymer sodium nitroside dihydrate/branched polyethylenimine–indocyanine green@polyethylene glycol (SNP/PEI-ICG@PEG) nanoplatform using the electrostatic adsorption method and Schiff’s base reaction. Relevant testing techniques were applied to characterize and analyze SNP/PEI-ICG@PEG, proving the successful synthesis of the nanomaterials. In vivo and in vitro experiments were performed to evaluate the antimicrobial properties of SNP/PEI-ICG@PEG.Results: The morphology and particle size of SNP/PEI-ICG@PEG were observed via TEM. The zeta potential and UV-visible (UV‐vis) results indicated the synthesis of the nanomaterials. The negligible cytotoxicity of up to 1 mg/mL of SNP/PEI-ICG@PEG in the presence or absence of light demonstrated its biosafety. Systematic in vivo and in vitro antimicrobial assays confirmed that SNP/PEI-ICG@PEG had good water solubility and biosafety and could be activated by near-infrared (NIR) light and synergistically treated using four therapeutic modes, photodynamic therapy (PDT), gaseous therapy (GT), mild photothermal therapy (PTT, 46 °C), and cation. Ultimately, the development of Gram-positive (G+) Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Gram-negative (G−) Escherichia coli (E. coli) were both completely killed in the free state, and the biofilm that had formed was eliminated. Conclusion: SNP/PEI-ICG@PEG demonstrated remarkable efficacy in achieving controlled multimodal synergistic antibacterial activity and biofilm infection treatment. The nanoplatform thus holds promise for future clinical applications.

Oxidative stress and fibrosis are core drivers of post-myocardial infarction dysfunction. Conventional therapies predominantly address either acute oxidative damage or chronic fibrosis, lacking strategies that concurrently target the two interconnected processes. Here, a microenvironment-responsive nanomedicine delivering nitric oxide (NO) and curcumin specifically to the infarcted heart is presented (named C@Si-NM). Constructed from glutathione-sensitive cyclic nitrate-trimethylene carbonate-polyethylene glycol block copolymer micelles crosslinked with silica, the system releases both NO and the encapsulated curcumin upon encountering elevated glutathione levels at the infarction site. In cardiomyocytes, NO suppresses the opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pore, inhibiting the release of reactive oxygen species, while curcumin directly acts as an antioxidant. In fibroblasts, NO inhibits the TGF-β/Smad pathway and curcumin downregulates the production of TGF-β, jointly suppressing fibrosis. The combined nanomedicine C@Si-NM significantly improved cardiac function in a rat model of MI after four weeks of treatment, resulting in an ejection fraction of 74 %. This value approached the normal range of 81 % and was superior to the outcomes observed with NO monotherapy at 62 % or curcumin monotherapy at 63 %. This strategy effectively mitigates both oxidative damage and fibrosis, bridging the gap between acute and chronic therapeutic interventions of myocardial infarction.
