Diffusion bonding of Ti/Ni under the influence of an electric current: mechanism and bond structure

Gao Xiufeng,Chen Shaoping,Dong Feng,Hu Lifang,Yang Renyao,Wang Wenxian,Munir Zuhair A.

The diffusion bonding between Ti and Ni was investigated in the presence and absence of an imposed electric current. Bonding was carried out over the temperature range of 873–1123 K and the current density range of 255–350 A/cm 2 . The formation and sequence of evolution of the three intermetallic phases, TiNi 3 , TiNi, and Ti 2 Ni, were investigated and discussed in light of calculations of Gibbs free energies of formation and interfacial energies associated with their nucleation. Within the experimental times and in the presence of a current, the growth of the three phases was parabolic. The evolution of the TiNi phase required an incubation period, while the relatively high growth rate of TiNi 3 suggests the possibility of another mechanism. The growth of all phases was enhanced by the application of a direct current, with no apparent dependence on its direction.

Effect of Sulfurization Temperature on Properties of Cu2ZnSnS4 Thin Films and Diffusion of Ti Substrate Elements

Meihong Huang,Junhui Lin,Zhiyong Liang,Shaowei Chen,Yuling Zhong,Feng Wang,Bixian Chen,Dongxia Zhang

The addition of flexible Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) thin film solar cells to titanium (Ti) substrates is an attractive way to achieve the low-cost manufacturing of photovoltaics. Prior research has indicated that the appropriate diffusion of Ti elements can enhance the crystalline growth of CZTS films. However, the excessive diffusion of Ti has been shown to adversely affect the photovoltaic performance of CZTS photovoltaic devices. Therefore, it is essential to regulate the diffusion of Ti elements within CZTS thin films to optimize their photovoltaic properties. The tendency for Ti substrate elements to diffuse into CZTS films is also influenced by the activation energy associated with these Ti elements. The sulfurization temperature is posited to be a critical factor in modulating the diffusion and activation energy of Ti elements within CZTS thin films. Consequently, this research investigates the alteration of the sulfurization temperature of CZTS thin films in order to enhance the properties of these thin films and to examine the diffusion behavior of titanium elements. The results reveal that as the sulfurization temperature increases, the diffusion of Ti elements within the CZTS thin films initially increases, then decreases, and subsequently increases again. This pattern suggests that the diffusion of Ti elements is affected not only by the activation energy of the Ti elements but also by the defect hopping distance within the CZTS thin films. Notably, at a sulfurization temperature of 550 °C, the grains at the base of the CZTS thin film demonstrate an increased density, which is associated with a reduced defect hopping distance, thereby hindering the diffusion of Ti elements within the CZTS thin films. Furthermore, at this specific sulfurization temperature, the slope of the current–voltage (I–V) curve for the CZTS/Ti structure reaches its maximum, indicating optimal ohmic contact characteristics.

Enhanced photocatalytic performance of NH2-MIL-125(Ti)/SrTiO3 heterostructures by the piezoelectric effect of SrTiO3

Hongmin Dai,Xuan He,Xing Du,Weixin Li,Daheng Wang,Hui Chen,Wei Fang,Lei Zhao

Applying piezoelectric effect on modulating charge transport behavior was considered as one efficient strategy to make feasible charge separation in photocatalysts towards boosting hydrogen evolution performance. Here, with employing corona-poling treatment, SrTiO 3 is converted to be a piezoelectric component in the constructed type II NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti)/SrTiO 3 heterojunction . Since the piezoelectric field could tilt the band bending to a degree to be convenient for the charge transfer from SrTiO 3 to NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti), it is also favorable to offer additional active sites on SrTiO 3 to form dual reduction sites for the following piezo-photocatalytic reaction. Both the ameliorated surficial polarization and charge transfer trajectory in NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti)/SrTiO 3 type II heterojunction are devoted to the boosted hydrogen production rate for NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti)/SrTiO 3 -0.1 (NM/STO-0.1), that is up to 1562.3 μmol h −1  g −1 , 1.79 times higher than that of unpolarized NM/STO-0.1 (871.6 μmol h −1  g −1 ) and 2.35 times higher than that of NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti) (663.8 μmol h −1  g −1 ), respectively. This research reported initially the assistant of SrTiO 3 with piezoelectric feature for enhanced performance photocatalytic hydrogen evolution, which could be one prominent strategy to achieve the reasonable design of efficient photocatalytic system.

In situ self-assembled Ti-MOF@Cu with enzyme activity for colorimetric sensing of sulfur ions

Xiupei Yang,Hanyu Yang,Die Deng,Yujie Kang,Yuxiu Fan,Ya Wang

Copper (Cu) nanoparticles have been widely used as catalysts for colorimetric assays. The challenge in developing Cu nanoparticles is to design nanomaterials with high catalytic activity and stability. Herein, a series of NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti)@Cu (Ti-MOF@Cu) composites with enzyme activity were obtained by in situ growth of different proportions of copper on titanium-based metal organic frameworks (Ti-MOFs), among which [email protected] showed the highest enzyme activity. Electron transfer at the interface of Ti-MOF and Cu promoted the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) to generate active species under near-neutral conditions, thereby oxidizing colorless TMB to blue oxidized TMB (ox-TMB). On this basis, a sulfide ion (S 2− ) detection method based on a [email protected] colorimetric sensor was constructed, in which the limit of detection (LOD) was 0.16 μM in the linear range of 0.5–30 μM. Furthermore, [email protected] was successfully used for detecting S 2− in water samples. The successful synthesis of Ti-MOF@Cu provides new insights for further study of the enzyme-like activity of copper-based materials, and the constructed facile and sensitive sensor system has broad application prospects.

Introducing β-Ti ductile-zones for enhancing both strength and ductility in heterostructured titanium alloy composites

Xiaoqi Mao,Lianwen Wang,Guodong Sun,Xuezhe Zhang,Yongqing Fu,Longlong Dong

Breaking trade-off barriers of strength-ductility in Ti alloys and their composites has been a key challenge for their engineering applications. Herein, we developed a new strategy of introducing β-Ti ductile zones in heterostructured (Cu@CNTs/TC4)+TC18 composites, which were synthesized using two-stepped ball milling, spark plasma sintering and hot rolling processes. Such composites are composed of TC18-coarse grain zones (CGZ) and (TiC+α'')-reinforced TC4-fine grain zones (FGZ). They achieve an exceptional high strength and high ductility, which are superior to those of TC4 alloys and homogeneous Cu@CNTs/TC4 composites. Heterogeneous interfacial microstructures of TC4-FGZ/TC18-CGZ play an important role in strengthening and toughening effects. The grain-coordinated deformation between TC18-CG and TC4-FG is also the key reason for achieving an exceptional ductility.

Preparation of BiVO4/MIL-125(Ti) composite with enhanced visible-light photocatalytic activity for dye degradation

Zhiquan Yang,Jie Ding,Jinna Feng,Chong He,Ying Li,Xiaowen Tong,Xiaojun Niu,Hongguo Zhang

Because of their desired features, including very specific surface areas and designable framework architecture together with their possibility to be functionalized, Metal Framework (MOF) is a promising platform for supporting varied materials in respect of catalytic applications in water treatment. In this work, a novel visible-light-responsive photocatalyst that comprised BiVO 4 together with MIL-125(Ti), was synthesized by a two-step hydrothermal approach. The characterization of as-obtained samples as performed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscope, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflection spectra. Rhodamine B was selected being a target for the evaluation of the photocatalytic function of as-developed photocatalyst. The photocatalytic reaction parameters, for example, the content of BiVO 4 as well as initial concentration of Rhodamine B was researched. The composite photocatalyst possessing Bi:Ti molar ratio of 3:2 brought to light the fact that the greatest photocatalytic activity had the ability to degrade 92% of Rhodamine B in 180 min. In addition to that, the BiVO 4 /MIL-125(Ti) composite could keep its photocatalytic activity during the recycling test. The phenomenon of disintegration of the photo-generated charges in the BiVO 4 /MIL-125(Ti) composite was brought to discussion as well.

Engineering Cr−O−Ti structure towards boosted vinyl chloride destruction: Oxygen species evolution and reaction mechanism

Han Xu,Qin Yang,Mingjiao Tian,Yaruo Zhao,Dong Guo,Zeyu Jiang,Yanfei Jian,Yadi Wang,Fan Dang,Chunli Ai,Jialei Wan,Reem Albilali,Chi He

Revealing the mechanism behind active oxygen species in chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOC) destruction is crucial but challenging. Herein, we designed a chromium-substituted titanium bimetal catalyst with strengthened element interaction, exhibiting remarkable ability to activate oxygen and destroy intermediates. Encapsulated chromium species triple the electron transfer speed (Cr → TiO 2 ), converting 90 % of vinyl chloride at 244 °C. The constructed Cr 6 + −O−Ti 3+ structure distorts TiO 2 lattice, generating defects that promote oxygen species activation. In-situ technologies and DFT calculations demonstrate that vinyl chloride adsorbed at Cr 6+ =O sites is oxidized by lattice oxygen, forming C O species, while surface oxygen activates in a cyclic process, promoting the *CH 2 CH to *CH 2 CHO and CH 2 CO. The constructed Cr-O-Ti structure breaks the rate-limiting step of *CH 2 CHO to CH 2 CO process, accelerating the formation of *CH 3 CO and further promoting the deep oxidation process (*CHO + *CO). This work presents new findings towards CVOC highly efficient purification, showcasing significant application potential.

Ammonia-regulated dynamic evolution of Ti precursor incorporating into dealuminized beta for efficient 1-Hexene epoxidation

Yang Xu,Dong Lin,Ze Zong,Qiuming He,Zhe Ma,Xuliang Deng,De Chen,Chaohe Yang,Xiang Feng

Demetalation-metalation method has gained prominence for its higher metal loading, efficiency and shortened synthetic period, particularly in the incorporation of metal atoms with large radii into zeolite framework in recent years. An ammonia-regulated approach has been developed for selectively evolved deep-substituted Ti precursors in dealuminized beta zeolites, which enables a controlled promotion of metalation of Ti atoms. Additionally, this ammonia-regulated approach could also enhance 1-hexene kinetic adsorption by constructing mesopores, which is demonstrated by the lower reaction order of 1-hexene. The synthesized ammonia-regulated N-Ti-beta exhibits rich framework Ti species and a high specific surface area, leading to significantly improved 1-hexene epoxidation performance (conversion of 61%, selectivity of 98%, and a high H 2 O 2 utilization efficiency of 93%). This study not only provides a new strategy to dynamically regulate evolution of Ti precursors by ammonia but also holds promise for advancing related industrial processes in demetalation-metalation methods.

Synthesis of UiO–66–NH2(Ti/Zr) and its Catalytic Conversion of Cellulose to 5-HMF

Xu Lingling,Pan Xiaomei,Gao Lijing,Wei Ruiping,Li Jihang,Wen Xiu,Li Yuanzhuang,Xiao Guomin

UiO–66–NH 2 (Ti/Zr) modified by Ti metal oxide (TiO 2 ) was used to catalyze the hydrolysis of cellulose to prepare 5-HMF. Under the optimal reaction conditions of H 2 O(NaCl)/THF(1/4 mL), 190 °C, 2 h and 50 mg UNT-3(Ti/Zr) (TiO 2 and UiO–66–NH 2 with mass of 1.5 and 0.1 g, respectively), the yield of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural reached 59.88%. UiO–66–NH 2 (Ti/Zr) nanocomposites with different mass ratios were successfully prepared by simple solvent evaporation method. SEM and TEM have shown that the modified UiO–66–NH 2 (Ti/Zr) are wrapped into sphere by TiO 2 densely attached to the surface of UiO–66–NH 2 , which provides favorable conditions for the uniform dispersion of TiO 2 and coordination of the Lewis acidic site of UiO–66–NH 2 . NH 3 –TPD results confirmed the existence of super-strong, strong, middle and weak acid sites in UiO–66–NH 2 (Ti/Zr), and Py-FTIR confirmed the existence of Brønsted and Lewis acids. After four cycles, the yield of 5-HMF and FUR decreased slightly from 59.88 to 51.89% and 9.11 to 7.66%, respectively, and the yield of 5-HMF could still remain above 50%. The results showed that the modified composite treatment of TiO 2 with rich Lewis acid/base and UiO–66–NH 2 could provide a certain idea for the extensive application of biomass research in the future. WO3/MIL-125 (Ti) composite material for enhancing the reduction of Cr(VI) under visible light

Chunhong Jin,Jingchao Liu,Yilin Yin,Zenghe Li

In wastewater containing heavy metals, Cr(VI) is a potentially toxic metal, mainly derived from production and processing processes such as textile printing, dyeing, ore mining, battery applications, metal cleaning and electroplating. WO3 is widely used in photocatalytic degradation and reduction, and its utilization rate of visible light is high. However, the rapid recombination of photogenerated electron–hole pairs of WO3 limits its use. In this work, the composite material (WxMy) of WO3 and MIL-125 (Ti) was prepared by the ball milling method, and the catalyst was used to photocatalytically reduce Cr(VI). After using W90M10 as a photocatalyst for 50 min, the reduction rate of Cr(VI) can reach 99.2%, and the reduction rate is 2.3 times that of WO3. After 5 cycles of use, the reduction rate can still reach 91.3%. It is mainly due to the formation of a II-type heterojunction between WO3 and MIL-125 (Ti), which promotes the separation of photogenerated electron–hole pairs, thus improving the efficiency of photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI).

Vanadium as a Ti-like mediator boosting electronic transmission in Fe-based MOFs for photocatalytic sterilization

Rui Li,Huilin Hu,Furong Xiong,Xiang Xue,Minqi Wu,Xuan Zuo,Wang Zhang,Xiangliang Pan

Efficient metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) photocatalytic bactericidal catalysts are urgently needed in water purification. Herein, a Fe-MOF (MIL-88B-NH2(V1Fe5) with promoted electron transport was achieved by vanadium (V) ions doping and V/Fe ratio optimization, showing excellent photocatalytic bactericidal activity against E. coli under visible light irradiation (99.92%). The efficient antibacterial mechanism, V as a Ti-like mediator boosting electronic transmission in MIL-88B-NH2(V1Fe5), was revealed by its band structure, transient photocurrent, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and scavenger quenching experiments. The enhancement of photocatalytic bactericidal performance of Fe-MOFs by V–ion-doping was confirmed by two other Fe-MOFs, MIL-53-NH2(V1Fe5) and MIL-101-NH2(V1Fe5), with the same metal ions and ligands, both of which have higher performance than the corresponding undoped MOFs. Among them, MIL-88B-NH2(V1Fe5) exhibits the highest photocatalytic bactericidal activity due to its suitable metal clusters ([M(μ3-O)] cluster) and topological structure (three-dimensional rhomboid network structure). This work demonstrated the amplification effect of V ion doping on electron transport in Fe-MOFs photocatalysts.
