In order to enhance the interfacial coupling of heterojunctions , Cu 2 MoS 4 /CdS heterojunction was constructed by solvothermal method and sulfurizing CdIF and the crystal structure, microstructure and photoelectric properties of the material were characterized. The results showed that CdS was homogeneously loaded on the surface of Cu 2 MoS 4 , the absorption of the composite material in the visible light region was significantly enhanced, and the recombination rate of photogenerated carriers was obviously reduced. The research showed the best photocatalytic hydrogen evolution performance When the addition amount of Cu 2 MoS 4 is 0.10 mmol, the best photocatalytic hydrogen evolution performance is 10.03 mmol/h/g, which was 21.45 times higher than that of pure CdS. The improved performance is mainly due to the highly dispersed loading of CdS on the surface of Cu 2 MoS 4 , which organically combines to build a heterogeneous interface with close contact, enhancing the separation efficiency of photogenerated holes and carriers, while suppressing the photocorrosion of Cu 2 MoS 4 and maintaining the long-term stability of hydrogen evolution performance to achieve high-efficiency hydrogen evolution.

Methyl mercaptan (MM) is one kind of volatile sulfur compound (VSC) with odor and properties (inflammable, highly toxic, and corrosive) similar to H2S; therefore, the highly sensitive and selective monitoring of ambient MM by chemiresistors is strongly essential, but it remains a challenge owing to its relatively weak reducibility/response in comparison with H2S. In this study, a novel chemiresistor composed of hexahedral particles SBO-loaded CdS nanoparticles has been prepared via a facile chemical precipitation method for the super-sensitive and highly-selective recognition of MM. The heterostructural CdS/SBO (0.05%) chemiresistor exhibited an extremely high response (114.7) to 100 ppm MM at a relatively low operating temperature (100 °C) and was about 36- and 9-fold higher than pure SBO and CdS chemiresistor, respectively. Various characterizations suggested that the sulfurization–desulfurization reaction, the abundant oxygen vacancies, and the generation of n–n heterojunctions at the interface promote the redox reaction of surface-active substances, thereby, boosting the outstanding MM response characteristics. In addition, the heterostructural chemiresistor possesses good selectivity, weak humidity interference, a lower limit of detection (LoD) of 82 ppb, and long-term stability (∼6% decline of response after 120 days), which promises practical applications in air quality (odor) monitoring.

Seeking and constructing superior photoactive materials have the potential to improve the performance of photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensors. In this work, we proposed a novel mimosa-like ternary inorganic composite with a significantly enhanced light-harvesting ability and photogenerated carrier separation rate. This ternary photoactive material was obtained via electrodeposition of gold nanoparticles (Au) on the surface of transition metal sulfide composite of CdS and NiS (CdS-NiS/Au). The experimental results showed that the high initial photocurrent was acquired on CdS-NiS/Au (68-fold higher than that of individual CdS) with the synergistic effect of p-n heterojunction, Schottky junction, and the eminent optical properties of gold nanoparticles. Meanwhile, using silver nanoclusters prepared by link DNA protection as an effective quencher, integrating the duplex-specific nuclease-assisted rolling circle amplification strategy, a “Signal ON” PEC biosensor was fabricated for the detection of microRNA 21 (miRNA 21). With the release of the quencher, the recovered photocurrent is able to achieve determination of miRNA 21 within the range from 10 aM to 1 pM with a detection limit down to 4.6 aM (3σ). Importantly, this work not only provides a superb idea for designing ternary inorganic heteromaterials with exceptional photoactive ability but also allows the detection of other biomarkers by selecting appropriate recognition units.

In this work, visible light driven photoelectrochemical glucose sensor was developed by electrochemically deposited CuO nanoparticles (CuO NPs) on graphene (GP)-CdS nanocomposites modified electrode to achieve both the electrocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic oxidation of glucose. Scanning electron microscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry were used to characterize the morphology and electrochemical properties of the resultant CuO NPs/GP-CdS nanocomposites. The CV results demonstrated that modification of CuO NPs largely enhanced the photoelectrocatalytic activity of GP-CdS composites toward glucose oxidation in alkaline solution. The glucose detection sensitivity under visible light irradiation is dramatically improved compared to dark condition. Good performance was obtained for the CuO NPs/GP-CdS nanocomposites based glucose sensor. The feasibility of the present method was confirmed by good recovery results for glucose detection in human serum samples.

Two major challenges in photocatalysis are the separation and utilization of photogenerated charge carriers that have limited their wider applications. To address these issues, significant studies have been devoted to the surface modification of photocatalysts. Herein, CdS nanorods were surface-modified by an ion-conducting LiTi 2 (PO 4 ) 3 (LTP) shell. This modification could accelerate the rapid separation and efficient utilization of photoinduced charge carriers. Therefore, CdS@LTP composite photocatalyst displayed a photocatalytic H 2 evolution rate of 26.01 mmol g −1 h −1 without any addition of cocatalysts in a Na 2 S/Na 2 SO 3 solution, which was over 6-fold compared to CdS, and showed improved stability. Furthermore, this shell can prevent the reverse reactions between H 2 and O 2 during photocatalytic water splitting. With the photo-deposition of Pt cocatalysts, CdS@LTP-Pt can achieve efficient overall water splitting with the highest H 2 generation rate (351 μmol g −1 h −1 ), which is 3.25 times higher than that of CdS-Pt. This study broadens the application of ionic conductor materials and provides a new way for the design of advanced photocatalysts for solar energy conversion.

Combining the advantages of inorganic semiconductor and organic semiconductor is an effective way to construct heterojunction to improve the photocatalytic activity of materials. In this work, two covalent triazine framework (COFs-Ph)-based heterojunctions, which named hollow COFs-Ph@CdS and solid COFs-Ph@CdS, were synthesized by a facile hydrothermal method . And they were developed for the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution and efficient degradation for tetracycline (TC), 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP), rhodamine B (RhB) under sunlight irradiation for the first time. Compared with solid COFs-Ph@CdS, hollow COFs-Ph@CdS catalysts exhibited a significantly enhanced activity for the photodegradation of various pollutants and photocatalytic hydrogen evolution. Under the simulated sunlight, the degradation rate of TC, 2,4-DCP, RhB by hollow COFs-Ph@CdS-3 was 87.2 %, 95.4 %, 82.6 %, respectively. The hydrogen production rate of hollow COFs-Ph@CdS-4 was 726 μmol·h −1 ·g −1 . Based on the experimental results, it found that the interactions between CdS nanospheres and COFs-Ph could enhance the sunlight harvesting and created a new pathway to extend the service life of photogenerated charge carriers via facilitating the electron transfer through the loaded CdS nanospheres. Furthermore, the results verified that the matched band structure between COFs-Ph and hollow CdS could induce a superfast S-scheme interfacial charge transfer path. Therefore, a reasonable S-scheme charge transfer mechanism was proposed based on the active species trapping experiments and the results of electron spin resonance (ESR). More importantly, hollow COFs-Ph@CdS-3 possessed a good stability and reusability after recycling five times, that showed application prospect for solar-to-chemical energy conversion.

Photocatalytic U(VI) extraction is considered as the most promising way to solve the current shortage of uranium resources and radioactive contamination. In this work, O-doped hexagonal-cubic CdS phase heterojunction was constructed by a simple thermal treatment and was successfully used for the photoextraction of U(VI) from water bodies. The samples with different heat treatment temperatures have different phase ratios and oxygen doping amounts. The experimental results show that the CdS heat treated at 350 °C (CdS-350) has the best photocatalytic activity, which can extract 80% of uranium within 120 min (m/v CdS-350 = 0.4 mg/g, C U(VI) = 50 ppm). More interestingly, a systematic mechanistic investigation shows that the extraction process is divided into two steps: i.e., photoelectrons and • O 2 − reducing U(VI) to U(IV) first, followed by photoholes and • OH oxidizing U(IV) to insoluble U(VI) (UO 2 (OH) 2 ). The second step of oxidation allows CdS-350 to avoid photocorrosion, resulting in an excellent recycling performance of only 8% decrease in performance after four cycles.

The photocatalytic hydrogen production efficiency of a single SrTiO3photocatalytic catalyst is often low, which is mainly due to the serious combination of electrons and holes produced by photocatalysis as well as the mismatch of the redox capacity and light absorption range. Construction of semiconductor heterojunctions can solve these problems. CdS has a narrow band gap, which can effectively utilize visible light, and it has a band structure matched with that of SrTiO3. Therefore, CdS is considered as an ideal candidate for constructing heterojunctions with SrTiO3. In this paper, bamboo pulp fibers were used as the substrate, and SrTiO3was coated on the substrate through the solvothermal process. CF/SrTiO3rich in oxygen vacancies was formed by high temperature carbonization, and heterojunctions were formed by loading CdS on the surface of the CF/SrTiO3composite material through the hydrothermal method, thus obtaining one-dimensional CF/SrTiO3/CdS core–shell photocatalysts. The structure and photocatalytic hydrogen production performance of the CF/SrTiO3/CdS core–shell photocatalysts were mainly studied. The photocatalytic hydrogen production experiment showed that the hydrogen production rate of the CF/SrTiO3/CdS-2 sample under the optimized process was as high as 577.39 μmol/g·h, which was about 11 times that of the CF/SrTiO3sample. In this composite photocatalytic material system, the loading of the CdS nanospheres could enhance the visible light absorption capacity of the composite catalyst, promote the rapid separation and high-speed migration of photocarriers, and significantly improve the photocatalytic activity.Keywords:SrTiO3;photocatalytic;hydrogen production;carbon fiber;oxygen vacancy;CdS

Owing to their intrinsic and pronounced charge carrier transport when facing the formidable challenge of inhibiting severe surface charge recombination, one-dimensional (1D) CdS nanostructures are promising for advancing high-yield hydrogen production . We herein demonstrate an efficient strategy of boosting interfacial carrier separation by heterostructuring 1D CdS with defective WS 2 . This process yields solid covalent interfaces for high flux carrier transfer that differ distinctively from those reported structures with physical contacts. As a nonnoble cocatalyst, WS 2 can accept photogenerated electrons from CdS, and the sulfur vacancies existing at its edges can effectively trap electrons as active sites for H 2 evolution. Moreover, due to its strong negative property, the H + from the aqueous solution can gather around WS 2 . WS 2 possesses a lower reaction barrier than CdS, which expedites the kinetic process for the reaction. The optimized sample exhibits a high photocatalytic H 2 evolution rate of 183.4 µmol/h (10 mg photocatalyst), which is as far as we know among the top in the records for CdS-based photocatalysts. We believe this present work will be inspiring in addressing the interfacial charge carrier transfer by constructing covalent heterointerfaces.

Here, Co 9 S 8 / [email protected] ( [email protected] ) nanocomposites are synthesized by a two-step hydrothermal process. Firstly, sulfur-doped carbon dots (S-CDs) are prepared by using 3-mercaptopropionic acid as a precursor. A region with denser –SH group is regarded as nucleation site on S-CDs for the growth of Co 9 S 8 to induce heterostructure. As-synthesized [email protected] possess great harvest in NIR region and hyperthermia (51.5%, 1064 nm) for photothermal (PTT). Besides, hyperthermia can elevate the thermal energy of nanocomposite to assist low-energy NIR-II irradiation (1064 nm, 1.16 eV), realizing the excitation of Co 9 S 8 (1.46 eV) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation for photodynamic therapy (PDT). What's more, [email protected] exhibits GOx-like activity that could consume glucose to elevate H 2 O 2 level and inhibit intracellular energy supply. In addition, they also show mimic peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT) characterization, and the tandem multi-nanozye activities endue the enhanced chemotherapy (CDT) and PDT. [email protected] reveals the greater ROS generation and nanozyme activity compared with pure Co 9 S 8 @PEG, attributing to the efficient charge separation in heterostructure. The novel biodegradation of [email protected] makes the elimination via feces and urine within 2 weeks. That is associated with PTT/PDT/CDT/starvation therapy to activate immune response for anticancer.

In our work, CdS nanocrystals were simply prepared via coprecipitation method and subsequent annealing process (300, 400, 500 °C). X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and the transmission electron microscope (TEM) etc. methods were used to analyze structure morphologies of the samples. The unannealed CdS nanocrystal is cubic, its phase evolution depends on annealing temperature. At 300 °C, its cubic phase was remained. Annealing at 400 °C makes small amount of hexagonal phase produced and cubic/hexagonal homojunctions were formed. Thorough phase transition to hexagonal phase was completed at 500 °C. The sensing properties based on the synthesized CdS nanocrystals with different phase structures were measured. The CdS-400 based sensor had the highest sensitivity to n-propanol, which was 41 at the optimum temperature of 225 °C. The response time was less than 1 s and the best selectivity was also obtained. The greatly enhanced gas sensing performance may be attributed to cubic/hexagonal CdS homojunction.

Abstract Efficient and long-term photoelectrochemical (PEC) hydrogen liberation from hydrazine hydrate was achieved using CdS nanorod arrays (CdS NRs) as the photoelectrode. Under light irradiation, the CdS photoelectrode exhibited high efficiency and stability for the anodic oxidation of N 2 H 4 ·H 2 O with high selectivity for hydrogen production at the counter cathode. The yield and Faradic efficiencies (FE) of hydrogen from N 2 H 4 ·H 2 O solution under mild conditions were determined to be 658 μmol/cm 2 and 90%, respectively, after 5 h of operation. The photocurrent density of the CdS electrode in electrolyte with N 2 H 4 ·H 2 O reached 7.6 mA/cm 2 at 1.23 V versus RHE, five times higher than that in N 2 H 4 ·H 2 O free electrolyte. And the persistence of CdS electrodes in electrolytes with N 2 H 4 ·H 2 O was more than 100 h, while in N 2 H 4 ·H 2 O free electrolytes, it was less than 100 s. An obvious cathodic shift of the photocurrent onset potential of about 300 mV was also observed. Furthermore, the kinetics of PEC oxidation of N 2 H 4 ·H 2 O were further tested. In addition, it is expected that this work may provide a strategy to stabilize other unstable photoelectrodes for a wide range of applications and supply a way to produce hydrogen by photoelectrochemical decomposition of N 2 H 4 ·H 2 O.
