PEDOT/g-C3N4 binary electrode material for supercapacitors

Xue Chen,Xiaoshu Zhu,Yinghong Xiao,Xiaodi Yang

A novel electrode material for supercapacitor composed of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT) and graphitic-phase C 3 N 4 (g-C 3 N 4 ) was prepared by a layer-by-layer assembly method. The resulting composite of PEDOT/g-C 3 N 4 represented excellent electrochemical stability in neutral electrolyte and enhanced electrochemical performance of capacitance and average energy density in comparison with single PEDOT. The specific capacitance was 137   F   g −1 in H 2 SO 4 and 200   F   g −1 in Na 2 SO 4 at a current density of 2   A   g −1 , respectively. More significantly, the average energy density was 9.65   W   h   kg −1 at an average power density of 4001.86   W   kg −1 in H 2 SO 4 . While in Na 2 SO 4 , the average energy density reached 17.5   W   h   kg −1 at an average power density of 5000   W   kg −1 . More than 89% and 96.5% of capacitance were retained in H 2 SO 4 and Na 2 SO 4 respectively, suggesting that PEDOT/g-C 3 N 4 possessed an excellent cycling stability in view of capacity performance as electrode materials. The property improvement was attributed to the synergistic effects of the two components in the composite.

Unique g-C3N4/PDI-g-C3N4 homojunction with synergistic piezo-photocatalytic effect for aquatic contaminant control and H2O2 generation under visible light

Rongdi Tang,Daoxin Gong,Yaoyu Zhou,Yaocheng Deng,Chengyang Feng,Sheng Xiong,Ying Huang,Guanwei Peng,Ling Li

Herein, a g-C 3 N 4 /PDI-g-C 3 N 4 homojunction has been fabricated for piezo-photocatalytic atrazine removal and exhibited better performance than individual photocatalysis or piezocatalysis. The introduction of PDI induces the π-π interaction facilitating electrons migration, and twists the g-C 3 N 4 plane into a more polar porous structure with enhanced piezoelectricity. The homojunction facilitates the photoelectron transfer at the g-C 3 N 4 /PDI-g-C 3 N 4 interfaces. The photoelectricity and the piezoelectricity of g-C 3 N 4 /PDI-g-C 3 N 4 were assessed. The finite element simulation showed that the porous structure of the g-C 3 N 4 /PDI-g-C 3 N 4 is essential to the enhanced piezoelectricity. Astonishingly, the piezo-photocatalytic atrazine degradation rate under an optimized condition (pH=2.97) reached 94% within 60 min. Moreover, the g-C 3 N 4 /PDI-g-C 3 N 4 homojunction produced 625.54 μM H 2 O 2 during the one-hour piezo-photocatalysis. Given the quenching experiments, reactive species detection and the electronic band of g-C 3 N 4 /PDI-g-C 3 N 4 , the piezo-photocatalytic mechanism has been proposed. In addition, the degradation pathways and the reduced intermediates toxicity intermediates of atrazine have been investigated.

Steam explosion distinctively enhances biomass enzymatic saccharification of cotton stalks by largely reducing cellulose polymerization degree in G. barbadense and G. hirsutum

Yu Huang,Xiaoyang Wei,Shiguang Zhou,Mingyong Liu,Yuanyuan Tu,Ao Li,Peng Chen,Yanting Wang,Xuewen Zhang,Hongzhong Tai,Liangcai Peng,Tao Xia

In this study, steam explosion pretreatment was performed in cotton stalks, leading to 5–6 folds enhancements on biomass enzymatic saccharification distinctive in Gossypium barbadense and Gossypium hirsutum species. Sequential 1% H 2 SO 4 pretreatment could further increase biomass digestibility of the steam-exploded stalks, and also cause the highest sugar–ethanol conversion rates probably by releasing less inhibitor to yeast fermentation. By comparison, extremely high concentration alkali (16% NaOH) pretreatment with raw stalks resulted in the highest hexoses yields, but it had the lowest sugar–ethanol conversion rates. Characterization of wall polymer features indicated that biomass saccharification was enhanced with steam explosion by largely reducing cellulose DP and extracting hemicelluloses. It also showed that cellulose crystallinity and arabinose substitution degree of xylans were the major factors on biomass digestibility in cotton stalks. Hence, this study has provided the insights into cell wall modification and biomass process technology in cotton stalks and beyond.

Enhanced charge separation via ZnIn2S4@S-doped-C3N4 S-scheme heterojunction for efficient photocatalytic water splitting under visible light

Xiaoqin Sun,Tianyu Wang,Xiaoxiang Xu

Heterojunction photocatalysts possess high efficiency in photogenerated electron-hole separation, which give significant advantages in the field of solar hydrogen production . Herein, a novel ZnIn 2 S 4 @S doped g-C 3 N 4 (ZIS@SCN) heterojunction with mesoporous structure was prepared for photocatalytic water splitting under visible light . Characterization showed that the element of S was successfully introduced into g-C 3 N 4 (CN) by replacing N to form C–S–C bonds and significantly enhanced the visible light absorption ability. The constructed heterojunction exhibited excellent photocatalytic hydrogen evolution under visible light. The best performance belonged to the sample of ZIS@100SCN. The corresponding H 2 production rate reached 9.3 mmol h −1  g −1 , which was 1.87-fold higher than that of the undoped one. More importantly, the heterojunction realized overall water splitting of H 2 and O 2 evolution simultaneously with good stability. The mechanism analysis indicted that introducing the element of S could regulate the band structure of CN and induce the charge transfer switching of a ZnIn 2 S 4 @g-C 3 N 4 (ZIS@CN) photocatalyst from Ⅰ-type to S-scheme, which promoted the efficient spatial charge separation and maintained the high redox ability of the ZIS and SCN. This work provides an insight in construction high performance S-scheme heterojunction for water splitting with a doping method.

Dumbbell probe-mediated cascade isothermal amplification: A novel strategy for label-free detection of microRNAs and its application to real sample assay

Sai Bi,Yangyang Cui,Li Li

Considering the great significance of microRNAs (miRNAs) in cancer detection and typing, the development of sensitive, specific, quantitative, and low-cost methods for the assay of expression levels of miRNAs is desirable. We describe a highly efficient amplification platform for ultrasensitive analysis of miRNA (taking let-7a miRNA as a model analyte) based on a dumbbell probe-mediated cascade isothermal amplification (DP-CIA) strategy. The method relies on the circularization of dumbbell probe by binding target miRNA, followed by rolling circle amplification (RCA) reaction and an autonomous DNA machine performed by nicking/polymerization/displacement cycles that continuously produces single-stranded G-quadruplex to assemble with hemin to generate a color signal. In terms of the high sensitivity (as low as 1   zmol), wide dynamic range (covering 9 orders of magnitude), good specificity (even single-base difference) and easy operation (one probe and three enzymes), the proposed label-free assay is successfully applied to direct detection of let-7a miRNA in real sample (total RNA extracted from human lung tissue), demonstrating an attractive alternative for miRNA analysis for gene expression profiling and molecular diagnostics, particularly for early cancer diagnosis.

Preparation of magnetic and thermal dual-responsive zinc-tetracarboxyl-phthalocyanine-g-Fe3O4@SiO2@TiO2-g-poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide) core-shell green photocatalyst

Cong Liu,Yanhui Li,Qian Duan

A novel hybrid organic/inorganic magnetic and thermal dual-responsive core-shell green photocatalyst zinc-tetracarboxyl-phthalocyanine- g -Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @TiO 2 - g -poly( N -isopropyl acrylamide) had been prepared. Firstly, Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @TiO 2 (FST) was prepared with core-shell structure, then thermosensitive poly( N -isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) immobilized on the surface of 3-(methacryloxypropyl)-trimethoxysilane (MPS) modified FST by radical polymerization. Below the lower critical solution temperature (LCST), PNIPAM was hydrophilic to ensure them disperse uniformly in aqueous solution, and above LCST, PNIPAM became hydrophobic to accelerate the separation of FST from water. Secondly, zinc-tetracarboxyl-phthalocyanine (ZnTcPc) grafted on the surface of FST- g -PNIPAM by ester bonds and sensitized TiO 2 to broaden absorption light range from ultraviolet to visible region to enhance photocatalytic activity. The photocatalytic test revealed that the decomposition rate of Rhodamine B (RhB) came to 91.8% after 60 min with ZnTcPc- g -FST- g -PNIPAM under visible light. When exposed under sun light, the degradation efficiency reached to 96.9%. It meant ZnTcPc- g -FST- g -PNIPAM was more suitable for organic pollutant degradation in nature. In addition, ZnTcPc- g -FST- g -PNIPAM performed efficient synergistic effect of thermal (>LCST) and magnetic responded recovery for reusing. And the degradation rate of RhB under recyclable photocatalyst was reduced 9.6% after 4 cycles. Above all, ZnTcPc- g -FST- g -PNIPAM would be an efficient photocatalyst with magnetic and thermal dual-responsive recovery used in water treatment.

Fabrication of porous g-C3N4 and supported porous g-C3N4 by a simple precursor pretreatment strategy and their efficient visible-light photocatalytic activity

Zhenxing Zeng,Kexin Li,Kai Wei,Yuhua Dai,Liushui Yan,Huiqin Guo,Xubiao Luo

Porous g-C 3 N 4 and supported porous g-C 3 N 4 were fabricated for the first time by a simple strategy using pretreated melamine as a raw material and pretreated quartz rod as a substrate. The formation of a richly porous microstructure can be attributed to the co-existence of different pore-fabricating units in the preparation system for porous g-C 3 N 4 . The richly porous microstructure endowed the as-prepared porous g-C 3 N 4 with an excellent photocatalytic activity. The as-prepared supported porous g-C 3 N 4 exhibited considerable stability because of the existence of chemical interaction between porous g-C 3 N 4 and the quartz rod substrate. The photocatalytic activity of the supported porous g-C 3 N 4 was competitive with that of porous g-C 3 N 4 in powder form because neither the surface migration of photogenerated electrons nor the diffusion of the target organic pollutant were affected by the construction of the quartz rod reactor. The photocatalytic activity of the as-prepared porous g-C 3 N 4 and supported porous g-C 3 N 4 was preliminarily evaluated by the treatment of single-component organic wastewater under visible-light irradiation. Subsequently, the as-prepared porous g-C 3 N 4 was further applied in conventional hydrogen evolution and a new system for simultaneous hydrogen evolution with organic-pollutant degradation. The hydrogen yield and degradation efficiency both increased with increasing photocatalytic activity of the as-prepared materials in the system for simultaneous hydrogen evolution with organic-pollutant degradation.

Constructing Imidazole-Modified g-C3N4/SnO Heterojunction for Photodegradation

Huan Yi,Xiaoshuai Wang,Junjie Yang,Yanjie Fang,Shaolong Huang,Zhengyuan Jin,Ribao Feng

An effective strategy for significantly enhancing photocatalytic activity of composite materials is to construct heterojunctions. Herein, a series of imidazole-modified heterostructured g-C3N4/SnO (CNIS) Z-scheme photocatalysts were prepared by calcination methods, leading to superior photocatalytic performance than pure SnO and imidazole-modified g-C3N4. Rhodamine B (Rh B) aqueous solution was taken as the target pollutant, and the result presented that both imidazole modification and the Z-scheme heterojunction construction benefited from significant enhancement in photocatalytic activity. Moreover, it is revealed that electrons were transferred from imidazole-modified g-C3N4to SnO through the interface of the composite by XPS analysis. Under visible light (>420 nm) irradiation, the built-in electric field, band edge bending, and Coulomb interaction work synergistically to drive the recombination of relatively useless electrons and holes in the hybrid. As a result, the residual electrons and holes, which possess enhanced reducibility and oxidizability, endow the composite with exceptional redox capability. This research can not only deepen our comprehension of designing and fabricating innovative Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts but also presents an effective approach to tackle environmental pollution issues in the future.

A thermal-activated peroxidase DNAzyme via G-quadruplex nanowires

Yang Xin,Fan Yiqi,Yao Bo,Shao Fangwei

G-quadruplex (GQ)/hemin DNAzymes represent a class of high-activity artificial peroxidases that have been widely utilized in various redox reactions. However, the limited thermal stability of GQ/hemin systems restricts their application in high-temperature biocatalysis. Herein, we developed a thermally activated peroxidase-mimetic DNAzyme constructed by G-quadruplex nanowire (GQwire) and hemin. A remarkable temperature-enhanced activity is shown on a model reaction of 2,2’-azino-bis(3-ethylben zothiozoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) oxidation by H 2 O 2 , achieving a 4.7-fold increase in catalytic activity and a 3.6-fold increase in cumulative product yield at 70 °C compared to 25°C. Structural analysis reveals that this unique thermal activation arises from the two-step thermal transition of GQwire architecture. GQwire disassembled from nanowire to oligomeric GQ rods that provides additional terminal binding sites for hemin and consequently enhancing catalytic activity at elevated temperatures. This thermal-activated DNAzyme provides an effective strategy for fabricating biocatalysts that expands their potentials in industrial manufacture.

MOF-Based G−Quadruplex/Hemin DNAzymes for Cascade Reaction

Ying Zhang,Junya Liao,Hao Liang

DNA-based biomimetic enzymes have attracted extensive attention due to their unique structure and stability compared to natural enzymes. Meanwhile, the specific sequences of DNA itself also have a catalytic effect. Herein, we first designed three guanine-rich DNA sequences numbered c−Myc3c, PG4TC, and TTT to construct g−quadruplex/hemin DNAzymes. Then, the g−quadruplex/hemin DNAzymes with the best activity were selected by a comprehensive examination of activity, degradation rate, and affinity. Subsequently, the stability and reusability of UiO66−DNAzymes were investigated using UiO66 as the carrier to immobilize DNAzymes. The results showed that UiO66−DNAzymes had excellent reusability and stability. Finally, UiO66−DNAzymes were successfully used for glucose detection by cascading with glucose oxidase (GOx) with a detection limit of 0.62 μM. The constructed glucose sensor had a good specificity, which is of great significance for developing a novel, accurate, fast, and economical glucose detection sensor.Keywords:metal-organic frameworks;DNAzymes;enzyme immobilization;biomimetic enzymes;glucose detection

Chemiluminescent gels of G-quadruplexes in deep eutectic solvents

Ping Qi,Liangying Jia,Mengjiao Yi,Enzhi Zhao,Yihan Liu,Aixin Song,Jingcheng Hao

Stabilized G-quadruplex systems have focused on biosensors , chromogenic reaction and chemiluminescence (CL) catalysts. On the present, the main studies are building stable G-quadruplexes to form ionogels and improving the performance of circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) or fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). Here, the uncommon G-quadruplexes promoted by deep eutectic solvents (DESs) were established and used for chemiluminescence resonance energy transfer (CRET) platform. The DES containing choline chloride and urea not only provided solvent environment for guanosine but also facilitated the formulation of the aggregates. The ion-dipole interaction among the cation of choline chloride and guanosine gave rise to the G-quartets and the hydrogen bond networks in DES or π-π interaction maintained the stacking G-quartets being G-quadruplexes. Being bound to the hemin endowed G-quadruplexes peroxidase-like properties, which catalyzed the oxidation of luminol and generated expected chemiluminescence. Subsequently, attaching the luminol and fluorescent dyes to the peroxidase-like G-quadruplex/hemin complexes guaranteed the proximity requirements of CRET donor and acceptor. The CRET eutectogels could flash evident blue, chartreuse or cerise light once they were immersed into H 2 O 2 solution, which endowed the eutectogels ability in grouping displaying objects. This work demonstrated the feasibility of simultaneously fixing the donor and acceptor of energy transfer on G-quadruplexes to develop the CRET platform, taking the luminol and dyes as example. And the instant luminescence property expanded the application of eutectogels in pattern visualization field.
