The pollution of silver ion (Ag( i )) has become a serious environmental threat and hazard to ecosystem and human health. Thus, the nanoscale zero valent iron (nZVI)-doped polypyrrole-based carbon nanotube (nZVI/CNT) composites were synthesized by a facile method to remove Ag( i ) from wastewater due to the toxicity and scarcity nature of Ag( i ). In this process, Fe 3+ initiated the self-assembly of polypyrrole tubes in the presence of methyl orange, while it also served as an iron source generated nZVI/CNTs by carbothermal reduction method. The nZVI/CNT composites exhibited a homogeneous tubular structure, and the nZVI formed were uniformly dispersed in the nZVI/CNT composites. The nZVI/CNT composites were used as an adsorbent for the removal of Ag( i ) and showed a higher adsorption capacity compared to nZVI and CNTs, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 522.41 mg g −1 . Ag( i ) was adsorbed on nZVI/CNT composites by ion exchange and chelation, where Ag( i ) was reduced to non-toxic Ag due to the redox reaction among pyrrolic-N, nZVI, and Ag( i ). The adsorption process of Ag( i ) on nZVI/CNT composites was dominated by monolayer adsorption. According to our results, nZVI/CNT composites can be used as economical treatment for wastewater containing Ag( i ).

Although immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapy has been widely used for the treatment of a variety of cancers, its therapeutic efficacy is severely impaired by low tumor immunogenicity and the immunosuppressive microenvironment. Herein, we designed multifunctional immunomodulatory calcium nanoparticles to reshape the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. Our multifunctional calcium nanoparticles, CD@CaCO 3 P, are designed to release calcium ions and doxorubicin (DOX) into the acidic tumor microenvironment, which synergistically increase the tumor cell calcium ion concentration, while the release of combretastatin A4 phosphate (CA4P) further enhances T cell infiltration. Specifically, CD@CaCO 3 P effectively mediates the immunogenic cell death (ICD) of tumor cells and triggers the activation of nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB)/interferon regulatory factor 3 (IRF3), thereby regulating type I interferon (IFN-I) signaling pathways, and ultimately reprogramming the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment by inducing M1-like macrophage polarization, promoting dendritic cell maturation, and increasing the infiltration of CD8 + T cells. Furthermore, CD@CaCO 3 P significantly increased tumor susceptibility to α-PD-1 checkpoint blocking immunotherapy and enhanced systemic immunotherapy performance against both primary and metastatic tumors. Our work provides new insights for the use functional calcium nanoparticles that modulate the tumor microenvironment to enhance the efficacy of cancer immunotherapy.

Cardiac troponin I (cTnI), a principal biomarker of acute myocardial infarction, possesses superior cardiac specificity and can provide a long detection window for cardiac injury. Although the potential of cTnI as a cardiac biomarker is promising, sensitive and rapid detection of cTnI remains challenging. In this work, a novel colorimetric biosensor was developed for cTnI detection based on multifunctional hybrid nanoprobes coupled with triple-aptamer-modified tetrahedral DNA nanostructures (TAPT-TDNs). First, we evaluated the affinity of four TAPT-TDNs with three vertices modified by two kinds of aptamers in different proportions. The four TAPT-TDNs exhibited much better affinity than the single-stranded aptamer for cTnI, which was attributed to the fact that TAPT-TDNs could improve the capture efficiency of cTnI with excellent interface density and constant support. Second, the selected TAPT-TDNs with highest affinity were immobilized on Fe 3 O 4 -Au magnetic nanoparticles as capture probes (named Fe 3 O 4 -Au-TAPT-TDNs). TAPT-TDNs and HRP were both labeled on NH 2 -MIL-101(Fe) to form signaling probes (named MIL-101(Fe)-HRP-TAPT-TDNs). Then, with the help of capture probes and signaling probes, the target protein was recognized and captured to form capture probe-cTnI-signaling probe sandwich-like structures, causing a decrease in signaling probes in the supernatant with magnetic separation and eventually leading to a visual color change. This colorimetric aptasensor displays excellent analytical performance toward cTnI with a detection limit of 27 pg·mL −1 . The anisotropic aptamer-mediated colorimetric sensor may serve as an alternative to conventional immunoassays for quick and accurate detection of cTnI in clinical samples.

Luminescent copper(I) iodide (CuI)-based coordination polymers (CPs) are well-known for their structural diversity and strong photoluminescence and are considered as promising candidates for optical applications. Here, a fluorescent Cu 2 I 2 (2-ap) 2 (1 ) (2-ap = 2-aminopyridine) CP was designed, synthesized, and applied to the effective detection of biothiols and antimicrobial study. Based on the strong thiaphilicity of copper (I), the CP 1 was used as a fluorescent probe to detect biothiols, which play important roles in regulating normal physiological processes due to their vital biological functions. Results revealed that the probe was able to achieve selective and sensitive detection of cysteine (Cys), glutathione (GSH), and homocysteine (Hcy) with low detection limits of 1.013 μM, 1.051 μM, and 1.034 μM, respectively. Moreover, the probe was successfully applied to the detection of thiols in human urine, fetal bovine serum, and bovine serum albumin, which demonstrated the potential application in biological samples. Furthermore, a CP/cellulose nanofibers (CP/CNFs) composite film was fabricated for visual detection of biothiols and antimicrobial study. The developed composite film showed good antimicrobial activity against tested bacteria in vitro conditions, thus opening up the antimicrobial application of C P-doped composite film and providing a new perspective and prospect for potential application in food packaging.

Luminescent Cu(I) complexes have drawn considerable attention as alternative materials to precious transition metal complexes due to their low cost and electron configuration. Discrete heteroleptic diamine-diphosphine copper(I) complexes have been investigated owing to their outstanding photophysical features. However, heteroleptic copper(I) coordination polymers remain mostly unexplored. Herein, we report the synthesis and photophysical characterization of a heteroleptic copper(I) coordination polymer by employing bidentate oxybis(2,1-phenylene)bis(diphenylphosphine) (POP) diphosphine and nitrogen heterocyclic 5-[4-(1-imidazolyl)phenyl]-2H-tetrazole (ipt) as ligands. By utilizing the mixed-solvent strategy, a one-dimensional (1D) linear chain was constructed under solvothermal reaction conditions. Temperature-dependent emission spectra combined with decay time measurements demonstrate that emission originated from triplet phosphorescence at ambient temperature.

In this study, a novel adsorbent (TCP) for the selective adsorption of Ag (I) was synthesized by thiol-ene polymerization of dimercaptosuccinic acid and 1,3,5-triallyl-1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-trione. Element analysis, FT-IR and NMR spectroscopy confirmed that TCP was a functional-group-dense polymer with abundant thioether/carboxyl groups. The results of batch adsorption experiments revealed that the maximum adsorption capacity for Ag (I) by TCP at pH 4 was 5.2 mmol g −1 , which was much higher than that at pH 2. Moreover, the adsorption isotherm of Ag (I) on TCP at pH 4 followed the Langmuir model better. However, the isothermal adsorption behavior at pH 2 fitted the Freundlich model well. The kinetic study demonstrated that both chemical adsorption and internal diffusion might be involved in the Ag (I) adsorption process. Furthermore, TCP showed much higher selectivity for Ag (I) in the presence of multiple interfering ions at pH 2 than that at pH 4. However, if the initial concentration of Ag (I) ions was high enough, TCP still exhibited good selectivity for Ag (I) in the presence of Cu (II) over a wide pH range: the selectivity coefficient (K Ag/Cu ) fluctuated between 40 and 60 in the pH range of 0.5–5. FT-IR spectroscopy and XPS analysis evidenced that the carboxyl and thioether groups in TCP could have synergistic effects on the adsorption of Ag (I), which might form five-membered or six-membered chelated rings, thereby inhibiting the combination of the carboxylic groups with other interfering ions. In addition, TCP showed high adsorption capacity and selectivity for Ag (I) in the treatment of simulated industrial effluent at pH 2.

Highly sensitive colorimetric detection of silver(I) ions (Ag+) at the single-particle level was developed based on the color of a gold nanoparticle (AuNP) assembly captured by dark-field microscopy (DFM) imaging. Formation of C–Ag+–C bonding between cytosines was utilized to induce interparticle coupling of AuNPs modified with single-strand DNA, resulting in a color change as the signal transduction to quantify Ag+ under DFM imaging. This method allowed visual quantitation of Ag+ in the range of 0.05 nM–250.00 nM and a detection limit of 28.8 pM was achieved. Furthermore, we demonstrated its applicability for the colorimetric detection of Ag+ in a small quantity of real samples, showing the good potential of this developed method for environmental monitoring and drug quality control.

In this study, a wavelength-resolved electrochemiluminescence resonance energy transfer (ECL-RET) ratiometric immunosensor from Au nanoparticle functionalized graphite-like carbon nitride nanosheets (Au-g-C3N4) to Au nanoclusters (Au NCs) has been constructed for the first time. At a working voltage of 0 to −1.2 V, Au-g-C3N4 showed a strong cathodic ECL emission with a peak at 460 nm, which overlapped well with the absorption spectra of Au NCs thus stimulating the fluorescence emission of Au NCs at 610 nm. Moreover, within this voltage range, the Au NCs showed no ECL signal; therefore, they would not interfere with the detection of the system. We used cardiac troponin I (cTnI) as an analytical model to construct a sandwich immunosensor based on the ECL-RET ratiometric strategy. By measuring the responses of the ECL460 nm/FL610 nm ratio at different cTnI concentrations, the sensitive detection of cTnI with a wide range of 50 fg mL−1 to 50 ng mL−1 and a low detection limit of 9.73 fg mL−1 can be achieved. This work enriches the wavelength-resolved ECL-RET system and provides an innovative reference for the development of more efficient and sensitive ECL-RET ratiometry.

Industrial wastewater contains large amounts of silver ions. Here, a new adsorbent was synthesized by functionalizing poly(glycidyl methacrylate) with carboxymethyl groups. The adsorbent was used to recover Ag(I) in wastewater. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, zeta potential, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to characterize the adsorbent. The experimental parameters affecting the adsorption are solution pH, contact time, and initial silver ion concentration. The optimum pH for adsorption of Ag(I) is pH 4. The maximum adsorption capacity at pH 4 is 157.05 mg/g, and the adsorption reaches equilibrium at 300 min. The kinetics and isotherms of the adsorption process were described by pseudo second-order, Langmuir and D-R models, respectively. The adsorption process was a single layer chemical adsorption, exothermic, feasible, and spontaneous. The adsorption mechanism is electrostatic or chelation. The adsorbent selectively absorbed Ag(I) from coexisting ions (Cu2+, Ni2+, Co2+, Zn2+). Finally, the removal rate of silver ions decreased from 79.29% to 65.01% after four repetitive experiments, which proved that the adsorbent had good reusability. The adsorbent has great potential benefit in removing Ag(I).Keywords:polymer;Ag (I), removal;mechanism;adsorption

Screening a novel electrochemiluminescence (ECL) system is crucial to ECL evolution. Herein, an efficient ECL system with less interference and environmental concern under physiological condition is developed via a unique internal Cu(I)/Cu(II) couple cycling amplified strategy by employing the glutathione- and citrate-capped copper indium sulfide (CIS)/ZnS nanocrystals (NCs) as electrochemiluminophore and N2H4·H2O as co-reactant. CIS/ZnS NCs can be electrochemically injected with valence band (VB) hole at 0.46 and 0.87 V (vs Ag/AgCl), and then achieve the same hole-injected states by relocalizing VB holes with the Cu(I) species inside of CIS/ZnS NCs to form internal Cu(II) defects, while each N2H4·H2O molecule can be successively oxidized to two more reducing species N2H3• and N2H2 around 0.10 V, and inject conduction band (CB) electron onto CIS/ZnS NCs for triple times. The internal Cu(I)/Cu(II) couple cycling involved radiative-charge recombination between these VB hole and CB electron eventually enables two efficient near-infrared ECL processes (around 731 nm) at 0.55 and 0.87 V, in which each single nanocrystal may participate in multiple ECL reaction cycles to produce multiple photons for amplified ECL, similar to the tris(bipyridyl)ruthenium(III) based ECL system. The low-triggering-potential ECL process at 0.55 V can be utilized to selectively determine Cu(II) with a wide linear range from 10 and 1500 nM and a limit of detection of 5 nM (S/N = 3). This work presents a NCs engineering and co-reactant selecting combined strategy for further ECL evolution.

Copper(I) halide complexes having thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) and phosphorescence have attracted much attention. Here, a series of four-coordinate dinuclear copper(I) halide complexes, [CuX(bpbp)]2 (bpbp = 2,2′-bis(diphenylphosphino)biphenyl, X = I (1), Br (2) and Cl (3)), were synthesized, and their molecular structures and photophysical properties were investigated. The structural analysis reveals that two copper(I) centers are bridged by two halogen ligands to form a dinuclear structure with a four-membered Cu2X2 ring. These complexes exhibit yellow to blue emission in the solid state at room temperature and have peak emission wavelengths at 575–487 nm with microsecond lifetimes (τ = 6.2–19.8 μs) and low emission quantum yields (<0.01%). The emissions of 1–3 originate from MLCT, XLCT, and IL (intraligand) transitions. Three complexes displayed good thermal stability.

Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) has become the primary cause of end-stage renal disease (ESRD), causing an urgent need for preventive strategies for DKD. Astragaloside I (ASI), a bioactive saponin extracted from Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bunge has been demonstrated to possess a variety of biological activities. This study investigates the therapeutic potential of ASI in DKD and the underlying molecular mechanism using db/db mice in vivo and high glucose (HG)-induced SV40-MES-13 cells in vitro . The results indicated that ASI significantly ameliorated renal dysfunction and mitigated the pathological alterations in the renal tissues of db/db mice. Moreover, ASI was found to reduce the levels of renal fibrosis makers and suppress the activation of TGF- β 1/Smad2/3 pathway in both db/db mice and HG-induced SV40-MES-13 cells. Furthermore, ASI downregulated HDAC3 expression, upregulated Klotho expression, and enhanced Klotho release. ASI is directly bound to HDAC3, and the beneficial effects of ASI on Klotho/TGF- β 1/Smad2/3-mediciated renal fibrosis in DKD were reversed by the HDAC3 agonist ITSA-1. In conclusion, ASI attenuates renal fibrosis in DKD, and may act through concurrently inhibiting HDAC3 and TGF- β 1, thereby regulating HDAC3-mediciated Klotho/TGF- β 1/Smad2/3 pathway.
