Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), as a kind of transition metal dichalcogenide, has been widely studied for its excellent compatibility with most of inorganic nanomaterials. Nevertheless, its microscale and agglomeration limit the performance severely. Therefore, the special structure of V-MoS2 has drawn a lot of interest, which can not only reduce the size of MoS2 nanosheets but also improve the valence electron structure of the materials. In this work, SrTiO3@MoS2 composite nanofibers were synthesized by the simple electrospinning and hydrothermal method, and it was applied as a novel material for photodetector. SEM, TEM, EDX, XRD, I-T curves, and EIS analysis were used to study the structure and properties of the prepared SrTiO3@MoS2 composite nanofibers. Simulating under sunlight at a potential of 1.23 V, the prepared composite materials exhibited a superior photoelectric performance of photocurrent density of 21.4 μA and a resistance of 2.3 Ω. These results indicate that the composite of SrTiO3 nanofiber adhered with V-MoS2 has a stable composite structure, good electrical conductivity, and photoelectric sensitivity and is a suitable material for photodetectors. This work provides new ideas for the preparation of self-assembled materials and their application in photodetectors.

The 2D molybdenum disulfide nanosheets (MoS 2 -NS) has exhibited great potential in electromagnetic wave absorbing (EMA) due to larger surface area and peculiar electronic properties. However, due to the poor impedance matching and limited electromagnetic loss capability of pure MoS 2 -NS, its practical applications are significantly challenging. Herein, we firstly implanted Co 3 O 4 nanoparticles (Co 3 O 4 -NPS) on MoS 2 -NS by a facile hydrothermal method to improve the EMA performance. The resulting MoS 2 /Co 3 O 4 hybrids exhibit the minimum reflection loss (RL) value of −43.56 dB at 6.96 GHz with 20 wt% Co 3 O 4 loading under the samples thickness of 4.0 mm. The widest bandwidth with the RL value less than −10 dB of MoS 2 /Co 3 O 4 hybrids was determined to be 4.76 GHz (13.24 to 18 GHz) under the absorber thickness of 2.0 mm. The excellent performance is ascribed to that implanted Co 3 O 4 -NPS on MoS 2 -NS could turn tuning impedance matching and improving synergetic magnetic loss and dielectric loss. Herein, this work not only presents a facile strategy of achieving high-performance MoS 2 -based EMA materials, but also provides important implications for designing the other EMA materials.

Advanced membranes with high water flux, excellent salt selectivity as well as superior fouling resistance are highly demanded in water desalination and water treatment. Herein, a new nanocomposite nanofiltration (NF) membrane was reported by introducing the two-dimensional (2D) oxidized molybdenum disulfide (O–MoS 2 ) into the polyamide selective layer. O–MoS 2 with high hydrophilicity and strong electronegativity was synthesized by the oxidation and exfoliation process. The nanocomposite membrane was successfully prepared through interfacial polymerization with the incorporation of O–MoS 2 into organic phase. O–MoS 2 was successfully embedded in the membranes as visualized by SEM and TEM characterizations. The hydrophilicity and electronegativity of the nanocomposite membranes were improved. Compared with the pristine membrane, the performance of the membrane was best when the concentration of O–MoS 2 was 0.010 wt/v%. Consequently, the Na 2 SO 4 rejection increased to 97.9%, and the water flux was 2.5 times higher. In addition, the membrane displayed excellent antifouling properties. The results showed that O–MoS 2 as an excellent 2D modifier would bring more breakthrough improvements in the field of membrane separation .

We describe the design and manufacturing method of a lightweight C-doped MoS2 aerogel with a special regular banana leaflike microstructure used for high-performance microwave absorbers. The aerogel precursor was first fabricated by a self-assembly process between alginate (Alg) and ammonium thiomolybdate (ATM), where Alg as a template was assembled with ATM into regular banana leaflike architectures along the ice growth direction during oriented freezing. After pyrolysis at 900 °C, the C-doped MoS2 aerogels maintained low densities and porous hierarchal banana leaflike structures, where the banana leaves ranged in diameter from about 2 to 5 μm with the growth of small branches. Benefitting from these features, the C-doped MoS2 aerogel possessed excellent microwave absorption performance in the frequency range of 2–18 GHz. The minimum reflection loss (RL) reached −43 dB at 5.4 GHz with a matching thickness of 4 mm, and the effective microwave absorption band (RL < −10 dB) reached 4 GHz (14–18 GHz) at a thickness of 1.5 mm. Our findings also provide strategies for designing MoS2 aerogel nanostructures for electronic devices, catalysis, and other potential applications.

Acrylic coatings composed of modified MoS 2 nanosheets (MMN) were successfully prepared on the surface of galvanized sheets. Bulk MoS 2 was successfully exfoliated and modified using the ultrasonic method. Then, the effects of MMN on the morphology, composition , and corrosion resistance of the composite coatings were analyzed. Scanning electron microscopy results showed that MMN reduced the number of cracks in the coatings and made the coatings more compact. Furthermore, the coating corrosion resistance was significantly enhanced. Polarization curves showed that the corrosion current density was reduced by nearly two orders of magnitude by preparing the coating with 0.2 g/L of MMN (sample C M-0.2 ). Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy results also demonstrated that the barrier performance was stronger for the MMN composite coating.

The interfacial structural coupling, electronic transfer, and particle coupling behaviors in heterojunctions composed of transition metal oxides (TMOs) and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) can profoundly affect the original lattice structures, charge dynamics, and spin degrees of freedom, potentially leading to novel physicochemical phenomena and the elucidation of new physical mechanisms. However, the control of interface quality in such systems is often neglected, which can compromise the functionality of these heterojunctions. There is a notable paucity of direct research evidence regarding how the surface structure control of TMO single crystals influences the synthesis and properties of TMDCs. In this study, we have selected Al2O3(0001), TiO2(110), and SrTiO3(111) as representative TMO substrates. Through precise etching and annealing treatments, we achieved atomically flat stepped surfaces on these substrates. Subsequently, we investigated the impact of these ordered atomic steps on the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth of MoS2, comparing them with the disordered surfaces of untreated single crystals. Furthermore, we utilized the polarized negative excitons in the SrTiO3/MoS2 composite system as a probe to explore the extent of polarization coupling under varying interfacial conditions. This research aims to underscore the critical importance of interfacial orderliness of oxide single crystal surfaces in modulating the growth of TMDCs and their interactions with TMOs. By highlighting the significance of interface orderliness, we seek to advance the understanding of effective interfacial interactions in these composite systems.

Two dimensional material/semiconductor heterostructures offer alternative platforms for optoelectronic devices other than conventional Schottky and p–n junction devices. Herein, we use MoS 2 /GaAs heterojunction as a self-driven photodetector with wide response band width from ultraviolet to visible light, which exhibits high sensitivity to the incident light of 635 nm with responsivity as 321 mA/W and detectivity as 3.5×10 13 Jones (Jones=cm Hz 1/2 W −1 ), respectively. Employing interface design by inserting h-BN and photo-induced doping by covering Si quantum dots on the device, the responsivity is increased to 419 mA/W for incident light of 635 nm. Distinctly, attributing to the low dark current of the MoS 2 /h-BN/GaAs sandwich structure based on the self-driven operation condition, the detectivity shows extremely high value of 1.9×10 14 Jones for incident light of 635 nm, which is higher than all the reported values of the MoS 2 based photodetectors. Further investigations reveal that the MoS 2 /GaAs based photodetectors have response speed with the typical rise/fall time as 17/31 μs. The photodetectors are stable while sealed with polymethyl methacrylate after storage in air for one month. These results imply that monolayer MoS 2 /GaAs heterojunction may have great potential for practical applications as high performance self-driven photodetectors.

The hybrid material of Mn-doped molybdenum disulfide/reduced graphene oxide (Mn-MoS 2 /rGO) is successfully fabricated through a one-pot hydrothermal method . The hybrid material, evaluated as electrochemical catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), exhibits improved catalytic activity and good stability for the HER in acidic medium with small overpotential (approximately 110 mV). Through analyses, it can be concluded that the improvement for electrochemical HER performance of the hybrid catalyst is ascribed not only to high conductivity mainly from reduced graphene oxide, but also to fundamental catalytic activity enhancement generated by Mn ions doping into the S-edge of MoS 2 with a portion of Mo ions replacement. These results verify the facilitation effect of Mn-doping on HER activities, and the Mn-MoS 2 /rGO hybrid prepared in this work could be employed as a promising alternative to noble metal catalysts in HER.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been used as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent, whose toxicity originates from the localized release of Ag+ ions. However, the residual AgNPs core could generate potential risk to humans and waste of noble metals. Herein, we infused the cysteine-modified molybdenum disulfide with minimum Ag+ ions and coated with a layer of cationic polyelectrolyte to construct an efficient and benign antimicrobial depot. The system exhibited much enhanced broad-spectrum antibacterial activity compared with an equivalent amount of silver nitrate, owing to its increasing accessibility of released Ag+ to the cell walls of microorganisms. More importantly, the antibacterial system could be successfully applied to treat wound infection, while retaining high antibacterial activities, exhibiting negligible biotoxicity and avoiding the waste of Ag.

A multifunctional nanosystem based on two-dimensional molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) was developed for synergistic tumor therapy. MoS2 was stabilized with lipoic acid (LA)-modified poly(ethylene glycol) and modified with a pH-responsive charge-convertible peptide (LA-K11(DMA)). Then, a positively charged photosensitizer, toluidine blue O (TBO), was loaded on MoS2 via physical absorption. The negatively charged LA-K11(DMA) peptide was converted into a positively charged one under acidic conditions. Charge conversion of the peptide could reduce the binding force between positively charged TBO and MoS2, leading to TBO release. Furthermore, the positively charged nanosystem was easily endocytosed by cells. Photo-induced hyperthermia of MoS2 in the tumor areas could promote TBO release and exhibited photothermal therapy. In vitro and in vivo results demonstrated that fluorescence and photo-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation of TBO were severely decreased by MoS2 under normal conditions. While in the acidic condition, the pH-responsive nanosystem exhibited a highly specific and efficient antitumor effect with TBO release and photo-induced ROS generation, suggesting to be a promising accessory for synergistic tumor therapy.

Increasing attention has been focused on microwave absorption (MA) performance in the Ku band (12.4–18.0 GHz) due to the rapid development of radar, military aircraft and satellite communications. In this work, 2D heterostructure MoS2/graphene composites were proven to be promising full Ku band MA materials due to their superb characteristics of high dielectric loss, low density, large surface area and good thermal stability. By a simple one step solvothermal method, MoS2/graphene composites were successfully obtained, and the matched 2D structure between MoS2 and graphene could generate synergistic effects and maximize the MA properties. Only with 30 wt% of the as-prepared MoS2/graphene composites, excellent MA properties in wide frequency bands were obtained. An optimal reflection loss (RL) value of −41.9 dB was obtained at 16.1 GHz with a thickness of 2.4 mm and the RL values exceeding −10 dB were achieved in the whole Ku band (12.2–18.0 GHz) with a thickness of 2.6–3.0 mm.

Constructing facilitated transport pathways using two-dimensional (2D) nanosheets as building blocks is an emerging approach to achieving highly selective passage of small molecules with similar physical properties. Due to high chemical inertness and low structural defects, molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) 2D nanosheets hold great promise in a broad range of molecular separation applications. In this study, MoS 2 nanosheets were incorporated in Pebax matrix to remove thiophene from the n-octane-thiophene mixture. The moderate binding energy of thiophene on the basal plane of MoS 2 enabled the construction of continuous facilitated transport pathways on the MoS 2 nanosheet for rapid diffusion of thiophene molecules. When the content of MoS 2 in the hybrid membrane was 4 wt%, the membrane displayed an optimum desulfurization performance with a permeation flux of 11.42 kg/ (m 2 h) (22.27% higher than that of Pebax membrane) and an enrichment factor of 9.11 (65.94% higher than that of Pebax membrane) at 60 °C with a feed solution containing 1312 ppm thiophene. This study is the first attempt of using MoS 2 nanosheets in pervaporative separations of small molecules liquid mixture, which may open a novel avenue to constructing facilitated transport pathway within membranes for efficient molecular sieving.
