Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) impedes the electrochemical water splitting for H2 production, ascribing to the depressed kinetics of the four proton-coupled transfer process. Transition metal oxides, especially bimetallic oxides, have been proven to be promising OER electrocatalysts due to their part unoccupied d-band characteristics. More interestingly, oxygen vacancies (Ov) easily constructed in transition metal oxides can modulate the electron structures and thereby boost the OER performance. However, most synthesized processes involving oxygen vacancy engineering, such as atom dopant, chemical/electrochemical reduction, and H2/Ar-dependent calcination, are energy-intensive and time-consuming, largely hampering their commercial applications. Herein, we suggest a simple and facile strategy for fabricating double spinel oxides with abundant oxygen vacancies by calcinating Ni/Fe@ZIF-67/CC precursor under a nonoxidation condition. The obtained Ov-CF1N2O@NC/CC-550 with vast oxygen vacancies exhibits excellent OER performance, representing a lower overpotential of 185 mV at 10 mA cm–2, smaller Tafel slope of 47.3 mV dec–1, as well as faster interface reaction kinetics (Rct = 0.7336). Theoretical calculations further confirm that the excellent electrochemical activity strongly corresponds to the lower d-band center of active sites on the Ov-CoFe2O4 (311) model and decreased reaction Gibbs energy barrier. The work might shed light on oxygen vacancy engineering via a simple and facile strategy and inspire a smart design of multimetallic oxide electrocatalysts with high OER performance.

Although molybdenum carbide (Mo x C) has emerged as an effective absorber of electromagnetic (EM) waves, its practical application is hindered by impedance mismatch and single loss mechanism. Herein, we developed a one-step method for creating NaCl template precursors assembled with ZIF-67 to produce porous multiple components of Mo x C composites. The Mo x C-Co/C composites exhibit a minimum reflection loss ( RL min ) of −59.69 dB with a bandwidth of 3.12 GHz at a thickness of 1.50 mm. The RL min reaches −71.39 dB with a bandwidth of 4.08 GHz at a thickness of 2.09 mm. The flower-like Mo x C-Co/C composites are capable of improving impedance matching and offering multiple loss mechanisms such as interfacial polarization, dipolar polarization, conductive loss and magnetic loss, resulting in enhanced EM wave absorption. Thus, our work featured a simple strategy to provide a unique insight into fabricating high-performance EM wave absorbers on molybdenum carbon basis.

Currently, Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) face challenges in antibiotic adsorption due to their inherent difficulty in recovery and susceptibility to hydrolysis. To overcome these limitations, herein, Mn-doped ZIF-67 was synthesized via coordination modification and then electrospun with high-mechanical-strength polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) to produce Mn-ZIF-67@PVP/PVDF composite nanofiber membranes. Characterization results based on SEM, XRD, and FT-IR analyses demonstrate that the layered nanofiber membrane provides abundant attachment sites for Mn-ZIF-67. Antibiotic adsorption experiments further reveal that the composite membrane exhibits facile recyclability, with Mn-ZIF-67 retaining 80 % of its initial adsorption capacity after five consecutive cycles, while maintaining its crystalline structure and remarkable aqueous stability throughout repeated utilization. The composite membrane achieved maximum adsorption capacities of 583.43 mg/g for tetracycline (TC) and 122.42 mg/g for ciprofloxacin (CIP). The adsorption process followed pseudo-first-order kinetics and Langmuir isotherm models, while thermodynamic analysis revealed a spontaneous and endothermic nature. The adsorption performance showed minimal impact from coexisting ions and pH variations. These superior characteristics of enhanced adsorption performance, exceptional water stability, and convenient recoverability endow the Mn-ZIF-67@PVP/PVDF composite membrane with significant practical advantages over conventional ZIF materials for antibiotic removal applications.

Efficient oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts with non-noble metals are very important for the large-scale application of electrocatalytic hydrogen production systems. ZIF-67 as a promising precursor to prepare Co-based catalysts suffer from its poor conductivities and low intrinsic catalytic activities. In this study, we developed a Co 3 O 4 /CeO 2 /C heterostructure nanoflowers (CoCe/C HFs) catalyst with two-dimension (2D) nanostructures using a facile one step hydrothermal reaction. This method is both energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. Hierarchical three-dimensional (3D) nanoflower structure increased active metal sites enhanced the electronic conductivity. The synthesized Co 10 Ce 1 /C HFs (the molar ratio of Co:Ce = 10:1) display excellent OER activities with a low overpotential of 274 mV and small Tafel slope (82.6 mV dec −1 ) in 1 M KOH. This performance surpasses that of both monometallic Co 3 O 4 /C and the commercial RuO 2 catalysts. Electrochemical tests, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations results indicate that the superior OER performance of Co 10 Ce 1 /C HFs is attributed to optimized electronic structure of Co 3 O 4 , and the improved conductivities and the cooperative effects between Co 3 O 4 and CeO 2 interfaces.

A magnetic double-layer metal-organic framework composite (Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8@ZIF-67) was successfully synthesized through a facile layer-by-layer self-assembly method at room temperature and thoroughly characterized using various techniques. The composite Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8@ZIF-67 was explored as an adsorbent for the removal of two harmful organic pollutants, Congo red (CR) and tetracycline hydrochloride (TC). Some essential parameters, including initial concentration, adsorbent dose, contact time, pH, and temperature, were systematically optimized. Under optimal conditions, Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8@ZIF-67 demonstrated the maximum adsorption capacities of 276.77 mg/g for CR and and 356.12 mg/g for TC, respectively. The double-layer structure endowed Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8@ZIF-67 high adsorption efficiency for CR (99.44%) than the pristine Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8 (73.26%). Adsorption kinetics and isotherms studies revealed that the adsorption process followed pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir model, indicating a monolayer chemisorption-dominated mechanism. Furthermore, the spent Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8@ZIF-67 was regenerated through a Fenton-like oxidative degradation reaction, maintaining a removal efficiency above 70% after three consecutive cycles. With its facile synthesis, cost-effectiveness, mild operating conditions, and high selectivity for anionic dyes, Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8@ZIF-67 emerges as a highly promising material for advanced wastewater treatment applications.

The development of low-platinum electrocatalysts with high activity in alkaline media is critical for sustainable and cost-effective hydrogen production. In this study, we report a dual-phase engineering strategy to synthesize Pt-CoSe 2 nanoparticles embedded in nitrogen-doped carbon (Pt-CoSe 2 @NC) via controlled pyrolysis of ZIF-67. The resulting catalyst features hierarchical porosity and a 3D conductive network that confines ultrafine Pt particles and enhances interfacial charge and mass transfer. Strong Pt-CoSe 2 interactions induce electron redistribution, elevating cobalt oxidation states and optimizing hydrogen adsorption energetics. Nitrogen doping and surface-oxygenated Co species further boost performance. The optimized Pt-CoSe 2 @NC catalyst exhibits an overpotential of 37.4 mV at 10 mA cm −2 , a Tafel slope of 60.4 mV dec -1 , and remains over 90 % of its initial current density after 24 h in 1 M KOH. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal a shift in the d -band center of Pt due to Pt-CoSe 2 interface formation, leading to near-thermoneutral hydrogen adsorption energy. This work integrates MOF-derived structural control with electronic interface modulation, offering a generalizable blueprint for designing efficient, low-noble-metal HER catalysts.

Two-dimensional (2D) metal-organic framework (MOF) nanosheets are promising fillers for gas separation membranes, owing to their high aspect ratios and tunable pore architectures. Realizing their full application potential requires precise control over nanosheet morphology and sizes to optimize membrane performance. This work employs crystal growth kinetics modulation to tailor the morphology and size of ZIF-67-based nanosheets incorporated into mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) targeting superior CO 2 /CH 4 separation. Strategy (i): Adjusting early-stage nucleation kinetics yielded two distinct ZIF-L nanosheet types: disk-like (ZIF-L-I) and leaf-like (ZIF-L-II). ZIF-L-II, synthesized with higher ligand molar ratio, possessed larger lateral dimensions and more favorable pore characteristics, significantly enhancing gas separation. Strategy (ii): Amino-functionalized ionic liquid (IL) was introduced to further modulate the size of ZIF-L-II nanosheets. The IL's amino groups served as capping agents by coordinating preferentially with Co ions, restricting framework extension without altering crystallinity. The ILs loading amount dictated the final nanosheet size, but did not alter their crystalline phase. Critically, the IL also exhibits affinity for CO 2 , augmenting its transport. At 48 % IL addition, the CO 2 permeability of the 10 wt% IL-ZIF-L-II/PI membrane surged from 289 Barrer to 493 Barrer, without significant selectivity loss. The synergistic combination of kinetically-controlled synthesis (yielding larger and leaf-like nanosheets) and IL-mediated size regulation (providing both capping and CO 2 -philic functions) resulted in a 70 % enhancement in CO 2 permeability.

Hydrogen is the most suitable green energy for the current era, and electrolyzing water to produce hydrogen is the most efficient preparation method. The development of efficient oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts is crucial for sustainable energy conversion. In our work, we construct a hierarchical CNFS@NiFe-LDH/NF heterostructure by integrating ZIF-67-derived cobalt sulfide with nickel‑iron layered double hydroxide (LDH) and bimetallic sulfides on nickel foam (NF). This composite synergistically combines the high surface area and active sites from the MOF-derived sulfide, the tunable layered structure and abundant -OH groups from the LDH-which facilitate OH − adsorption and O O formation-as well as electronic modulation effects from the bimetallic sulfides. The catalyst exhibits excellent OER performance with an overpotential of 236 mV at 10 mA cm −2 and a Tafel slope of 42.23 mV dec −1 under alkaline conditions, and maintains high conductivity and low charge transfer resistance throughout operation. Meanwhile, the catalyst showed excellent stability for at least 66 h during the OER process at 50 mA cm −2 , which demonstrates outstanding durability. Moreover, this catalyst have satisfactory hydrophilicity/aerophobicity. This work provides an effective strategy for designing high-performance and stable electrocatalysts via heterogeneous interface engineering.

Herein, a zeolite-like metal-organic framework (MOF, i.e., ZIF-67) is treated with I 2 at 170 °C and without any solvents and inert atmospheres to obtain the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts (i.e., I 2 &ZIF-67). After treated with I 2 , the ORR activity of I 2 &ZIF-67 in alkaline electrolyte has been significantly increased compared with the pristine ZIF-67. Particularly, the optimized I 2 &ZIF-67(2:1) shows the half-wave potential of ∼0.83 V and Tafel slope of ∼37.3 mV per current decade, which is comparable to 20 wt% Pt/C. The enhanced ORR activity is mainly attributed to the generation of active pyridinic-N, Co 2+ and I 3 − species induced by the interaction between I 2 and ZIF-67. Moreover, the I 2 treatment also facilitates the charge and mass transfer for ORR. This work provides a strategy to develop highly efficient ORR catalysts derived from MOFs at low temperature.

Catalytic oxidation plays a pivotal role in the chemical industry. Among various approaches, the strategy involving O2 as a green oxidant and H2O as a solvent for the efficient oxidation of organic compounds has garnered significant interest because it aligns with the principles of sustainable development. However, the inherent inertness of ground-state oxygen molecules poses a significant challenge in the development of non-noble-metal catalysts that can activate O2 to reactive oxygen species. Inspired by the regulatory effects of metal doping on the oxygen vacancy content and electronic properties of materials, we developed a bimetallic oxide catalyst MnxCoOy, derived from Mn-doped ZIF-67, for catalytic oxidation with oxygen. Comprehensive characterization (XRD, XPS, N2 adsorption–desorption, Raman, and FTIR) reveals that Mn species doping substitutes Co2+ at tetrahedral CoO4 sites, modulating the catalyst’s oxygen vacancy concentration and electronic distribution. The optimized MnxCoOy with suitable oxygen vacancy concentration exhibits superior performance in the selective oxidation of organic molecules containing benzyl sp3 C–H bonds. The cyclic and amplification experiments indicate the potential application value of the catalyst. This work provides fundamental insights into the design of multipurpose catalysts for catalytic oxidation through the metal doping strategy, which also offers a sustainable approach for obtaining carbonyl compounds.

Co-Mg 1.5 @C were successfully prepared to activate PMS for TC degradation. • The degradation mechanism is the synergistic effect of free radicals (SO 4 . •– , •OH, O 2 •– ) and non-free radicals ( 1 O 2 ). • A small amount of Mg doping can greatly reduce the leaching of cobalt ions. • In a continuous flow reactor, the catalyst achieved complete degradation of both TC and MB within 300 min, with the treated effluent exhibiting substantially reduced toxicity. Aquatic antibiotic pollution caused by tetracycline (TC) has posed a severe threat to ecological security and human health, and the development of efficient and stable cobalt-based catalysts for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation is the key to solving this problem via advanced oxidation processes. However, the existing cobalt-based catalysts suffer from the defects of active site agglomeration, serious cobalt leaching and poor stability. In this work, a facile synthesis of Mg/C co-doped Co-based catalyst (Co-Mg@C) derived from ZIF-67 for enhanced activation of PMS toward TC degradation. The introduction of Mg not only modulates the electronic structure of Co active sites but also effectively suppresses Co agglomeration. Meanwhile, the carbon matrix derived from fumaric acid (FA) provides a conductive and porous framework, which improves both electron transfer kinetics and the overall dispersibility of the catalyst. The optimized Co-Mg 1.5 @C catalyst exhibited exceptional catalytic activity, achieving nearly complete TC removal within 60 min, while maintaining robust performance over a wide pH range and in the presence of various co-existing ions. Radical quenching and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) studies confirmed that TC degradation proceeded via the synergistic action of both radical (SO 4 •– , •OH and O 2 •– ) and non-radical ( 1 O 2 ) species. The Co-Mg 1.5 @C catalyst also displayed excellent reusability with minimal cobalt leaching and broad-spectrum activity towards multiple organic pollutants. Application tests in real water matrices and toxicity assessments further confirmed its environmental compatibility and practical feasibility. This study provides valuable insights into the rational design of cost-effective and stable MOFs-derived catalysts for advanced water treatment applications.
