Supported boron oxide catalysts show great potential in propane oxidative dehydrogenation yet suffer severe hydrolytic deactivation at high temperatures. Here, an interfacial bond gradient strategy is proposed to stabilize boron-based catalysts. CeO 2 anchored on γ-Al 2 O 3 modulates local bonding and firmly immobilizes active boron species. The catalyst achieves over 40% propane conversion, 80% olefin selectivity and superior stability within 200 h. Formed B-O-Ce interfaces trigger oriented electron transfer and enhance surface hydrophobicity, raising hydrolysis activation energy and suppressing active site loss. This interfacial engineering offers a universal route to design robust catalysts for alkane transformation.

Constructing heterojunctions is important for improving the photocatalytic performance of materials. In this study, porous Fe 2 TiO 5 was prepared via a sol-gel method, and CuS was grown in situ on its surface through a hydrothermal process, thereby successfully synthesizing CuS/Fe 2 TiO 5 heterojunction composites. The CuS/Fe 2 TiO 5 composites were characterized via X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis), and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis. The results indicated that CuS is uniformly loaded on the surface of Fe 2 TiO 5 , with lattice spacings of 0.3550 and 0.2972 nm corresponding to CuS and Fe 2 TiO 5 , respectively, and no impurity phases were observed. Heterojunction construction induced distortion of the TiO 6 octahedra at the interface, resulting in the emergence of a new absorption peak in the ultraviolet region. Among the samples, the 20 wt.% CuS/Fe 2 TiO 5 (denoted as 20CuF 2 ) composite exhibited a specific surface area (S BET = 6.17 m 2 /g) between those of CuS (S BET = 4.87 m 2 /g) and Fe 2 TiO 5 (S BET = 7.71 m 2 /g). Its bandgap was tuned to 1.78 eV, and the photoluminescence intensity was significantly reduced. A CuS/Fe 2 TiO 5 heterojunction composite was applied to facilitate the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB), achieving a degradation efficiency of 91.8%. The heterojunction catalysts developed in this study enable the effective degradation of pollutants in wastewater, providing a feasible technical reference for catalyst development and application.

Systematic
strategies for modulating trap distributions through
B-site cation engineering in metal halide phosphors remain elusive.
Here, we employ density functional theory to guide the isovalent substitution
of Cd 2+ with Zn 2+ in Cs 3 Cd 2 Cl 7 :Sb 3+ afterglow phosphors. By leveraging
the electronegativity difference and ionic radius mismatch between
Zn 2+ and Cd 2+ , we perturb the local bonding
environment while preserving the [SbCl 6 ] 3– emission framework. Zn 2+ incorporation modifies the local
structural and electronic environments, while thermoluminescence spectroscopy
reveals a broadened trap distribution. The optimized composition,
Cs 3 Cd 1.95 Zn 0.05 Cl 7 :0.04Sb 3+ , exhibits prolonged afterglow exceeding 180 s-substantially
longer than that of the undoped counterpart, while maintaining green
self-trapped exciton (STE) emission centered at 518 nm. These engineered
defects enable multimode optical readout via thermal stimulation,
980 nm photostimulation, and X-ray excitation. This work establishes
a clear correlation between B-site cation identity and defect energetics,
providing actionable design principles for next-generation optical
storage materials.

Antibiotics pose a significant threat to ecosystems and human health, creating an urgent need to develop highly efficient visible-light-driven degradation catalytic technologies. In this study, we synthesized a CuO/B-g-C 3 N 4 (CO/BCN) direct Z -scheme heterojunction composite photocatalyst based on non-metallic doping and heterojunction engineering. XRD, TEM, and XPS analyses indicate that the material exhibits good crystallinity and forms a tightly bound interfacial heterostructure. Photoelectronic measurements reveal a significant enhancement in visible light absorption and an improvement in carrier separation efficiency. Under illumination, the 0.2-CO/BCN system achieved 97.6% degradation of tetracycline (TC) within 120 min. The performance improvement is attributed to the Z -scheme heterojunction, which facilitates charge transport and suppresses the recombination of photo-generated electrons and holes. Radical trapping, EPR and work function characterization further elucidated the reaction mechanism. This study provides a theoretical basis and experimental reference for regulating energy levels through elemental doping and constructing heterojunction composite photocatalytic materials. HighlightsFabricate Ni-B/La2O3composite coatings by co-depositing nano-La2O3particles into an electroless Ni-B alloy matrix. The optimal concentration was determined to be 8 g·L−1, evidenced by the best anti-corrosion property. The results conclusively show that nano-La2O3reinforcement effectively enhances the corrosion resistance of electroless Ni-B alloy coatings. This study was conducted to explore how varying the concentration of nano-La2O3particles in the plating bath influences the morphology, constitution, and corrosion resistance of Ni-B composite coatings deposited on N80 carbon steel via electroless plating. The novelty of this work lies in the systematic investigation on the co-deposition behavior and grain refinement mechanism of nano-La2O3in electroless Ni-B system, which has been rarely reported in previous studies. The microstructure and chemical composition of the coatings were characterized through a combination of SEM, EDS, XPS and XRD analyses. SEM confirmed that a dense Ni-B/La2O3composite coating was formed, with a uniform thickness of approximately 10 μm, and the nano-La2O3particles were evenly distributed. XPS analysis verified the presence of B, C, O, Ni and La, while XRD analysis revealed a refinement in crystalline size due to the addition of the nanoparticles. The corrosion resistance enhancement mechanism is attributed to the triple synergistic effect: nano-La2O3pins grain boundaries and refines Ni-B grains to the minimum average size of 12.943 nm at the optimal concentration of 8 g·L−1; the refined grain structure promotes the formation of a continuous and dense Ni(OH)2passive film; the uniformly dispersed nanoparticles act as physical barriers to block the penetration of corrosive media. Electrochemical measurements demonstrated that this coating exhibited outstanding anti-corrosion performance, as confirmed by a remarkably positive corrosion potential (Ecorr= −0.37189 V) and a minimal corrosion current density (Icorr= 3.7524 μA/cm2). The results conclusively show that nano-La2O3reinforcement effectively enhances the corrosion protection performance of electroless Ni-B alloy coatings.

Biofouling on marine aquaculture nets poses significant challenges to the economic viability and environmental sustainability of mariculture. This study developed a novel composite coating PS- b -PDMS/CaO 2 on the net surface by incorporating oxygen-releasing calcium peroxide nanoparticles (CaO 2 NPs) into a polystyrene-polydimethylsiloxane block copolymer (PS- b -PDMS). This coating synergistically combines low surface energy with a sustained oxygen-enriched microenvironment and enhanced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, resulting in significantly enhanced antifouling performance. Experiments demonstrated that the coating achieved outstanding antifouling efficacy, with antibacterial rates exceeding 99% against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and the marine bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa, anti-diatom adhesion rates of 92.18%, and anti-protein adhesion rates of 96.82%, with an optimal loading of 0.6 wt%. Moreover, the coating improved the mechanical properties (~ 35.53 MPa) while preserving the low-surface-energy characteristics and sustained oxygen release for over 60 h. A 90-day marine field test verified minimal biological fouling on the PS- b -PDMS/CaO 2 -0.6 coating surface, showing excellent real-sea antifouling performance and structural stability, indicating the long-term serviceability of aquaculture nets in marine environments. This study proposes a novel technical pathway for the development of environmentally friendly, long-term stable, and high-performance antifouling and antibacterial coatings that can effectively adapt to complex marine environments. Pomegranate-like B@(NH 4 ) 2 SiF 6 @LiClO 4 enables ordered boron combustion. • Sequential fluorination–oxidation suppresses oxide re-passivation. • The optimized composite shows faster ignition and stronger flames. Boron suffers from severely limited combustion efficiency due to the kinetic barrier imposed by its native oxide layer. In this work, a pomegranate-inspired B@(NH 4 ) 2 SiF 6 @LiClO 4 composite was fabricated via a two-step solvent evaporation-induced self-assembly strategy, enabling highly dispersed reactive domains and intimate interfacial contact. The distinctive pomegranate-inspired architecture establishes particle-level spatial organization of the reactive components, while their distinct thermal activation windows provide the temporal basis for a proposed spatiotemporally coordinated reaction pathway. TG-DSC and TG-FTIR analyses reveal that fluorine-containing species derived from (NH 4 ) 2 SiF 6 evolve prior to LiClO 4 melting and major oxidizer release, supporting a proposed sequential fluorination-oxidation pathway involving early fluorine-mediated interfacial modification followed by oxidizer-driven boron oxidation. At an optimal (NH 4 ) 2 SiF 6 content of 10 wt%, the ignition delay and combustion duration are reduced by 15.47% and 68.22%, respectively, compared with B@LiClO 4 , demonstrating substantially improved ignition and combustion kinetics. Combined structural, thermal, and combustion analyses support the proposed spatiotemporally coordinated fluorination-oxidation pathway arising from the coupling of particle-level organization and temporally separated thermal events. This work provides a particle-level interfacial engineering strategy for coordinating fluorination and oxidation in high-performance boron-based energetic systems. A pomegranate-inspired B@(NH₄)₂SiF₆@LiClO₄ enables spatiotemporally ordered boron combustion by coupling fluorination and oxidation reactions within confined nanoscale domains. Sequential interfacial activation and molten-salt-mediated oxygen transport promote continuous reaction propagation and suppress oxide re-passivation, resulting in faster ignition, intensified flame propagation, and more efficient energy release compared with conventional physically mixed systems. Background Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a life-threatening vascular disorder characterized by progressive aortic wall degeneration, inflammation, and vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) loss. Despite extensive research, no effective pharmacological treatment is currently available to prevent or halt AAA progression. Purpose This study aimed to discover effective therapeutic agents for AAA and identify potential natural compounds with pharmacological efficacy against the disease by targeting matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP2), a key enzyme involved in extracellular matrix degradation and aneurysm progression. Methods An integrated screening strategy combining cytotoxicity evaluation, high-content immunofluorescence imaging, and molecular docking was applied to an angiotensin II (Ang II)-stimulated rat aortic smooth muscle cells (RASMCs) model. A total of 138 natural products were systematically assessed. The anti-aneurysmal efficacy of the identified compound was further validated in both CaCl₂-induced and Ang II-infused ApoE -/- mouse models of AAA. Network pharmacology and metabolomic analyses were performed to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms. Results Salvianolic acid B (Sal B), a major polyphenol from Salvia miltiorrhiza, was identified as a potent anti‑AAA candidate. It suppressed aneurysm formation, reduced elastin degradation, and attenuated inflammatory infiltration in vivo, while preserving the contractile phenotype, lowering ROS, and inhibiting MMP activity in Ang II‑stimulated RASMCs in vitro. Mechanistically, Ang II suppresses NRF2, leading to downregulation of the System Xc⁻-GPX4 axis and promoting lipid peroxidation and VSMC ferroptosis. This ferroptosis then activates the AGE-RAGE pathway, amplifying inflammation and MMP‑driven matrix degradation. Sal B counteracts this cascade by restoring NRF2 activity, improving lipid metabolism, and inhibiting MMPs, thereby blocking ferroptosis‑initiated inflammation and preserving aortic integrity. Conclusion Salvianolic acid B exerts protective effects against AAA by attenuating oxidative stress, ferroptosis, and inflammation. These findings highlight Sal B as a promising natural therapeutic candidate for the prevention and treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysm.

The photocatalytic conversion of CH4 and O2 to C1 oxygenates represents a promising route for chemical synthesis, yet current systems predominantly depend on metal-based catalysts to achieve efficient light harvesting and charge separation. Herein, we report a metal-free alternative using boron confined within g-C3N4 (B/C3N4), which achieves a C1 oxygenates production rate of 28.1 μmol gcat.–1 h–1 with a 60% improvement in activity compared with pristine g-C3N4. Combined experimental and theoretical investigations reveal that boron confinement in g-C3N4 induces orbital delocalization, which enhances charge carrier separation and creates dual-functional nitrogen sites that facilitate CH4 oxidation and O2 reduction reactions. Delocalized nitrogen sites with the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital are responsible for reducing O2 to •OH radicals, whereas counterparts with the highest occupied molecular orbital facilitate the oxidation of CH4 to •CH3 radicals. The resulting •OH radicals can either oxidize CH4 to generate •CH3 or directly combine with transient •CH3 radicals, initiating a cascade reaction that sequentially yields CH3OH, HOCH2OH, and HCOOH.

Vernadite is often used for pollutant adsorption, oxidation and interfacial catalysis due to its diverse structure, high reactivity and environmental friendliness. Rhodamine B was employed as a model organic contaminant in this study to investigate the capability of Vernadite-activated sulfite for organic pollutant degradation and to elucidate the activation mechanism of sulfite in the Vernadite/sulfite system. Vernadite was able to partially decolorize approximately 90.3% of Rhodamine B (RhB) due to its strong surface activity. Upon the addition of sulfite, RhB was fully degraded within 20 minutes, and the solution was observed to change from red to colorless. It was discovered that dissolved oxygen was crucial to the process. As the sulfite content rose, the degradation efficiency first rose and then decreased, but it rose as the mineral dosage increased. The system was effective within the pH range of 3-7, though efficiency declined as pH increased. The presence of common coexisting ions had minimal impact on the performance, particularly in the presence of humic acid (HA), where degradation remained effective. Mn (III) and singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) were confirmed to be the primary reactive species in charge of RhB degradation by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and quenching studies. These results demonstrate the possible uses of minerals containing manganese dioxide as heterogeneous catalysts for environmental remediation under realistic wastewater treatment conditions.

Ti–Al matrix alloy reinforced with a high content of boron was fabricated by using a high-temperature alloying method and powder metallurgy technique (P/M). The preparation method of Ti–Al–B alloying powder was put forward. Phases, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the alloys were investigated. Wear and friction performance were studied by using a ball-on-disc tribotester sliding against a Si3N4ceramic ball from 23 °C (room temperature) to 900 °C. The Ti–Al–B alloy had a higher specific strength than that of the Ti–Al alloy. The boron element obviously enhanced the wear resistance and mechanical properties of the alloys because of the formation of borides (TiB2and AlB2) in matrices and the stable oxide film on the wear tracks. Friction coefficients of alloys were independent of the boron element. The wear mechanisms of the alloys transferred from fatigue wear to oxidative wear with the increase in temperature.

In this study, a series of poly(ethylene succinate)- b -poly(butylene carbonate) (PES- b -PBC) multiblock copolymers were prepared through the chain-extension reaction of hydroxyl-terminated PES (PES-OH) and hydroxyl-terminated PBC (PBC-OH) prepolymers with 1,6-hexmethylene diisocyanate (HDI) as a chain extender. The effects of the prepolymer molecular weight and content on the structure and application properties of the PES- b -PBC copolymers were systematically investigated using various techniques. It was found that the compatibility of PES and PBC blocks in PES- b -PBC copolymers can be greatly enhanced by lowering the length of the prepolymers, and the amorphous phase of the PES and PBC chain segments in the PES- b -PBC copolymer would transform from immiscibility and partial miscibility to miscibility when the number-average molecular weight ( M n ) of the PES-OH and PBC-OH prepolymers is less than 2000 g/mol. Only the crystal structure of bare PES can be observed in the wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) spectrum of the PES- b -PBC copolymers, but their crystallinity degrees were found to decrease with increasing PBC fraction. The thermal behavior, crystallization performance, rheological properties, mechanical properties, and degradation properties of the PES- b -PBC multiblock copolymers can be easily modulated by altering the block length and composition of the prepolymers, offering potential applications in biodegradable materials.
