Construction of Co/Fe co-embedded in benzene tricarboxylic acid with modulated coordination environment for accelerated oxygen evolution reaction

Yuping Gai,Wei Deng,Junbo Hu,Dan Li,Wenshuo Xie,Xiang Li,Jingjing Zhang,Dewu Long,Fei Jiang

The preparation of stable electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction is of the utmost importance to realize high performance water decomposition reaction . Metal-organic framework (MOF) nanostructures have become promising materials. Herein, we report three kinds of electrocatalysts with different structures and properties for the oxygen evolution reaction, which were constructed by using different binding sites of three kinds of ligands following a mechanism which involved only *O and *OH species as intermediates. CoFeBTC-MOF shows excellent overpotential η = 261 mV at 10 mA cm −2 (1.481 V vs. RHE), Tafel slope of 59.29 mV dec −1 and pretty excellent stability (48 h of continuous testing), making it become one of the best acid-resistant catalysts for oxygen evolution reaction. The DFT calculations show that there are different ways to transfer electrons . In addition, the coupling effect between Co and Fe metals is the key to regulate the electrocatalytic activity , confirming the cooperative catalysis mechanism with a reduced energy barrier.

Co–Al Spinel as an Efficient Support for Co-Based Fischer–Tropsch Catalyst: The Effect of Metal–Support Interaction

Min Zhao,Ziang Zhao,Yuan Lyu,Wei Lu,Ming Jin,Tao Liu,Hejun Zhu,Yunjie Ding

Suitable metal–support interaction is of great significance for the supported Fischer–Tropsch catalyst. Herein, we synthesized a series of porous spinel MAl2O4 (M = Co, Mg, Zn) together with Al2O3, via a sol–gel method and used them as supports for the Co-based Fischer–Tropsch synthesis (FTS) catalyst to investigate the influence of metal–support interaction on Co dispersity, reducibility, and catalytic performance. The catalytic performance showed that 15Co/CoAl2O4 had the highest activity and C5+ selectivity, as well as favorable stability during 1000 h lifetime testing. The catalysts were characterized by physisorption, chemisorption, HRTEM, XPS, and TPSR. The results indicated that 15Co/CoAl2O4 showed weaker metal–support interaction than 15Co/MgAl2O4 and 15Co/Al2O3, which was considered as the key factor for its higher reducibility and CO dissociation ability, contributing to the higher CO conversion. The higher Co dispersity on CoAl2O4 resulted from the smaller particle size of Co species on CoAl2O4, contributing to the higher activity of 15Co/CoAl2O4 than that of 15Co/ZnAl2O4. The higher C5+ selectivity on 15Co/CoAl2O4 and 15Co/ZnAl2O4 than that on 15Co/MgAl2O4 and 15Co/Al2O3 was verified to benefit from the appropriate H2/CO adsorption ability, which was significantly affected by metal–support interaction.

Electronically coupled Co single atoms with Co-Pd alloy catalyst for high-performance rechargeable hydrazine-assisted Zn−Air batteries

Ren Lijuan,Hu Xiuli,Wang Shuyu,Shi Jiaqi,Gong Jiaxing,Wang Manyun,Zhou Ji,Wang Jianzu,Lv Xian-Wei,Bielawski Christopher W.,Geng Jianxin

Zinc−air batteries are promising devices for use in safe and cost-effective energy storage applications. However, their practical utility is hindered by sluggish oxygen evolution and oxygen reduction reactions. We show that hybridizing electronically coupled Co single atoms and a CoPd alloy within a three-dimensional macroporous N-doped carbon (CoPd/Co@3D NC) enables high-performance N 2 H 4 -assisted zinc−air batteries, where the oxygen evolution reaction is replaced with the thermodynamically more favorable hydrazine oxidation reaction. Experimental and theoretical data reveal that electronic coupling between the Co single atoms and the CoPd alloy mutually modifies their electronic structures, which, in turn, weakens oxygen adsorption on the Co single atoms and enhances N 2 H 4 adsorption on the Pd sites. The electronic-coupling effect accelerates the rate-limiting steps of the oxygen evolution and hydrazine oxidation reactions. Consequently, N 2 H 4 -assisted zinc−air batteries employing CoPd/Co@3D NC exhibit a small charging/discharging voltage gap of 0.52 V at 100 mA cm −2 , a peak specific power of 151 mW cm −2 , and a specific capacity of 810 mAh g −1 at 10 mA cm −2 ; these values are competitive when compared to those exhibited by conventional zinc−air batteries.

Ternary copolymers based on vinyl chloride-co-butyl acrylate-co-vinyl versatate with excellent elasticity, transparency and damping performance

Jiabo Wang,Changtong Song,Guochen Wang,Yutao Zhang,Xianhong Zhang,Wantai Yang

Synthesizing poly(vinyl chloride- co -butyl acrylate- co- vinyl versatate) ternary copolymer via suspension polymerzation • The ternary copolymer can achieve a damping temperature range of 15–65 °C and a high tan δ max around 1.15. • The ternary copolymer exhibites outstanding transparency and excellent elasticity. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)-based damping materials are extensively utilized in low-temperature vibration attenuation owing to their excellent processability, mechanical properties, and cost-effectiveness. However, achieving both a broad damping temperature range and high mechanical ductility remains a significant challenge. To address this issue, this study synthesized ternary copolymers of vinyl chloride (VC) with butyl acrylate (BA) and various vinyl carboxylate monomers such as vinyl acetate (VAc), vinyl neononanoate (VV9), and vinyl neodecanoate (VV10) via suspension free radical copolymerization, aiming to systematically investigate the influence of alkyl side chain length and bulkiness on damping performance. The damping properties, thermal stability, and mechanical behavior of the resulting copolymers were evaluated through dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and tensile testing. The remarkable results showed that the damping temperature range and loss factor are highly reliant on the content of BA and vinyl versatate structural units, as well as the side chain length of vinyl versatate. In detail, the PVC based ternary copolymers with 44% BA units and 7% VV10 units can achieve a damping temperature range of 15–65 °C and a high tan δ max around 1.15 at 1 Hz. While all copolymers maintained exceptional tensile strength about 20 MPa and ductility with an elongation at break exceeding 390%. Meanwhile, the damping materials with a vinyl versatate units either VV9 or VV10 exhibited a high transparency. This work provides a novel and effective strategy for designing high-performance PVC-based damping materials with an extended service temperature range and robust mechanical integrity. Jinpeng Zhao,Zi'ang Liu,Suo Fu,Fazheng Wei,Xiaowei Chen,Danqing Liu,Weicheng Huang,Shaoqin Liu

A Sm/Co dual-doping strategy is introduced to the A and B sites of BiFeO 3 (BFO) perovskite structure to boost the synergetic piezo-photocatalytic performance for organic pollutant degradation and hydrogen production. The optimized doping ratio enables it to achieve the best balance between carrier concentration and piezoelectric response while regulating the energy band. The dual-doped sample Bi 0.9 Sm 0.1 Fe 0.8 Co 0.2 O 3 (BS 0.1 FC 0.2 O) exhibits the best piezo-photocatalytic performance, achieving a 90% RhB degradation efficiency in 60 min and hydrogen production rate of 1525 μmol g −1  h −1 . The coupling of Sm and Co co-doping in BFO effectively enhances the light harvesting and the piezoelectric polarization performance, which facilitate the generation and separation of electrons and holes. This work provides a paradigm for designing efficient piezo-photocatalysts with tailored band structures through bimetal co-doping strategies and demonstrates great potential for applications in environmental remediation and hydrogen production.

Scale like microsheet Co-V2O5@C preparation via synergistic V/Co coordination effect of terephthalic acid for water oxidation

Hongliang Fu,Wenyao Xue,Shaocong Zhan,Jing Zhao,Yue Lian,Zhifeng Wang,Yongfeng Hu,Huaihao Zhang

Metal active sites are anchored via the coordination effects between V/Co and terephthalic acid. • Co-doping constructs highly active Co-O-V catalytic sites, enhancing reaction activity. • PTA-derived oxygen-containing carbon layer mitigates metal site dissolution, improving stability. Developing highly active and stable catalysts for alkaline electrolytic water oxidation remains a challenge. Here, we prepared highly active, stable and conductive scale like microsheet Co-V 2 O 5 @C through Co-doping and coordination effect between terephthalic acid (PTA) and metal (V/Co). Specifically, Co-doping into V 2 O 5 lattice constructs highly active V-O-Co sites, thus reducing the adsorption energy of oxygen-containing intermediates. Meanwhile, the scale like microsheet Co-V 2 O 5 @C expose abundant active sites, enhancing oxygen evolution efficiency. The coordination effect between PTA and V/Co enables the in-situ formation of carbon layer on V 2 O 5 surface after carbonization, which effectively alleviates the dissolution of active sites and enhances stability. For conductive design, the Co introduction into V 2 O 5 can promote intrinsic conductivity. Moreover, under high-temperature carbonization, PTA evolves into oxygen-containing carbon layer, which boosts Co-V 2 O 5 @C overall conductivity and reaction kinetics. Based on above advantages, Co-V 2 O 5 @C displays good electrochemical performance in oxygen evolution reaction (OER) (low overpotential: 290 mV@10 mA cm −2 ; long stability: 50 h; small charge transfer resistance: 11.7 Ω). Ligand–metal synergy in MOF-derived Co–Ni(TCNQ)2·2H2O for efficient HMF electrooxidation and hydrogen Co-production

Ting Xiang,Njud S. Alharbi,Xijun Wang,Changlun Chen

The electrocatalytic oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) coupled with hydrogen evolution offers a sustainable approach for producing value-added chemicals and green hydrogen. Achieving both high current densities and long-term operational stability remains a significant challenge. A metal–organic framework (MOF)-structured Co–Ni(TCNQ)2·2H2O nanorod-array catalyst demonstrates exceptional activity and durability for HMF electrooxidation. This bimetallic framework achieves high current density up to 1000 mA cm−2, requiring only 1.72 V in 1.0 M KOH with 200 mM HMF, which significantly outperforms Ni(TCNQ)2·2H2O and highlights the strong promoting effect of cobalt incorporation. Nearly complete HMF conversion and high selectivity for 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) are observed, along with excellent recyclability under concentrated substrate conditions. Operando and ex situ analyses indicate that cobalt doping mitigates over-oxidation and the associated irreversible structural transformation of the nickel sites stabilizes a dynamic Ni2+/Ni3+ redox cycle, and enhances charge delocalization through the TCNQ ligand. These effects collectively prevent over-oxidation and ensure sustained catalytic turnover. Density functional theory calculations confirm that cobalt strengthens HMF adsorption and facilitates FDCA desorption, thereby coupling efficient substrate activation with effective product release. This dual thermodynamic modulation explains the reduced onset potential and increased current density. Thus, Co–Ni(TCNQ)2·2H2O serves as a robust, selective, and scalable electrocatalyst, linking mechanistic understanding to industrial-scale biomass upgrading and simultaneous hydrogen generation.

Room-Temperature Formaldehyde Oxidation over ZIF-Derived Co-Based Catalysts: Morphology-Dependent Co-N4 Sites and Enhanced Oxygen Activation

Wei Wen,Chunying Wang,Xudong Chen,Jingyi Wang,Fei Wang,Kai Li,Yan Zhang,Yaobin Li,Changbin Zhang,Wenpo Shan

The development of high-efficiency non-noble-metal catalysts for HCHO removal is of great significance in indoor air purification. Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) are characterized by large specific surface areas, well-defined porous structures, and tunable electronic properties, making them suitable for constructing single-atom catalysts with adjustable coordination environments. In this study, three Co-ZIF materials with distinct morphologies were synthesized and subsequently pyrolyzed, yielding cobalt-based catalysts with varied coordination structures. Among these catalysts, the Co–N–C(F) primarily features atomically dispersed Co species coordinated with four N atoms, forming Co-N4 active sites. Theoretical calculations indicate that the Co-N4 coordination structure exhibits enhanced oxygen activation compared to metallic cobalt sites, which is crucial for the degradation of intermediate products in the oxidation of HCHO. The Co–N–C (F) catalyst demonstrates superior activity in HCHO oxidation to even most noble metal catalysts. During a 710 h continuous test at 15 °C, the catalyst maintained 100% HCHO removal efficiency without observable deactivation. Simulation experiments further confirmed its practical applicability, with the catalyst module able to degrade 1 ppm of HCHO to <0.07 ppm within 2 h at room temperature. This work provides valuable insights for the development of commercial nonprecious metal catalysts for HCHO oxidation.

Fast Degradation of Rhodamine B by In Situ H2O2 Fenton System with Co and N Co-Doped Carbon Nanotubes

Wei Cui,Jiahui Fang,Yuanyuan Wan,Xueyu Tao,Litong Guo,Qiyan Feng

In this study, an E-fenton oxidation system based on Co-N co-doped carbon nanotubes (Co-N-CNTs) was designed. The Co-N-CNTs system showed fast degradation efficiency and reusability for the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB). The XRD and SEM results showed that the Co-N co-doped carbon nanotubes with diameters ranging from 40 to 400 nm were successfully prepared. The E-Fenton degradation performance of Co-N-CNTs was investigated via CV, LSV and AC impedance spectroscopy. The yield of H2O2could reach 80 mg/L/h within 60 min, and the optimal voltage and preparation temperature for H2O2yield in this system was −0.7 V (vs. SCE) and 800 °C. For the target pollutant of RhB, the fast removal of RhB was obtained via the Co-N-CNTS/E-Fenton system (about 91% RhB degradation occurred during 60 min), and the •OH played a major role in the RhB degradation. When the Fe2+concentrations increased from 0.3 to 0.4 mM, the RhB degradation efficiency decreased from 91% to about 87%. The valence state of Co in the Co-N-C catalyst drove a Co2+/Co3+cycle, which ensured the catalyst had good E-Fenton degradation efficiency. This work provides new insight into the mechanism of an E-Fenton system with carbon-based catalysts for the efficient degradation of RhB.Keywords:carbon nanotubes;E-Fenton;rhodamine B;degradation;mechanism

Construction of N, O co-doped carbon anchored with Co nanoparticles as efficient catalyst for furfural hydrodeoxygenation in ethanol

Hui Yang,Hao Chen,Wenhua Zhou,Haoan Fan,Chao Chen,Yixuan Sun,Jiaji Zhang,Sifan Wang,Teng Guo,Jie Fu

Hydrodeoxygenation of furfural (FF) into 2-methylfuran (MF) is a significant biomass utilization route. However, designing efficient and stable non-noble metal catalyst is still a huge challenge. Herein, we reported the N, O co-doped carbon anchored with Co nanoparticles (Co-SFB) synthesized by employing the organic ligands with the target heteroatoms. Raman, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) characterizations showed that the co-doping of N and O heteroatoms in the carbon support endows Co-SFB with enriched lone pair electrons, fast electron transfer ability, and strong metal-support interaction. These electronic properties resulted in strong FF adsorption as well as lower apparent reaction activation energy. At last, the obtained N, O co-doped Co/C catalyst showed excellent catalytic activity (nearly 100 mol% FF conversion and 94.6 mol% MF yield) and stability for in-situ dehydrogenation of FF into MF. This N, O co-doping strategy for the synthesis of highly efficient catalytic materials with controllable electronic state will provide an excellent opportunity to better understand the structure–function relationship.

Large Microsphere Structure of a Co/C Composite Derived from Co-MOF with Excellent Wideband Electromagnetic Microwave Absorption Performance

Mengyi Zhang,Xiaohui Sun,Xudong Cai,Xiaolu Zhan,Yufei Wu,Xuyang Zhang,Guohua Wu,Xiangwei Wang

In the field of electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption, carbon matrix materials based on metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have drawn more interest as a result of their outstanding advantages, such as porous structure, lightweight, controlled morphology, etc. However, how to broaden the effective absorption bandwidth [EAB; reflection loss (RL) ≤ −10 dB] is still a challenge. In this paper, large microsphere structures of a Co/C composite composed of small particle clusters were successfully prepared by the solvothermal method and annealing treatment. At a filling ratio of 40 wt %, the Co/C composite shows attractive microwave absorption (MA) performance after being annealed at 600 °C in an atmosphere of argon. With an EAB of 6.32 GHz (9.92–16.24 GHz) and a thickness of just 2.57 mm, the minimum RL can be attained at −54.55 dB. Most importantly, the EAB can attain 7.12 GHz (10.88–18.0 GHz) when the thickness is 2.38 mm, which is larger than that of the majority of MOF-derived composites. The superior MA performance is strongly related to excellent impedance matching and a higher attenuation constant. This study provides a simple strategy for synthesizing a MOF-derived Co/C composite with a wide EAB.
