Dynamic engineering of buckling deformation is of vital importance as it provides multiphase modulation of thin film devices. In particular, dynamic switch of buckles between one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) configurations in a single film system on rigid substrates is intriguing but very challenging. The current approach to changing buckling configuration is mainly achieved by varying the built-in stress at the film–substrate interface, but it is difficult to realize dynamic engineering on rigid substrates. Herein, we report a dynamic engineering of buckling deformation in MoS2 thin films by humidity-tuned interfacial adhesion. With the change of humidity, the MoS2 thin films deform from 1D telephone-cord buckles to 2D web-like buckles due to the hydrophilic nature of both MoS2 and substrate. Such 1D-to-2D evolution of buckles is attributed to the weakened interfacial adhesion of mixed deformation modes induced by humidity, which is verified by finite-element modeling. These buckled films further find potential applications as patterned templates for liquid condensation and sensing units for tactile sensors. Our work not only demonstrates the humidity-controlled dimensionality engineering of buckles in MoS2 thin films but also sheds light on the functional applications of buckled films based on their profile features.

The rapid development of electronic communication and radar technologies in the 5G era has exacerbated electromagnetic pollution, thereby driving the urgent need for cutting-edge microwave absorption materials. In this study, a novel SnCo/C@MoS2 composite was proposed, and the core-shell structure was synthesized via electrospinning and hydrothermal methods. This composite uniquely integrated the high conductivity and magnetic properties of Sn and Co while capitalizing on the superior dielectric performance of MoS2 nanosheets, which are uniformly grown on carbon nanofibers. This design capitalized on the synergistic effects of a one-dimensional (1D) carbon fibers (CF) framework and two-dimensional (2D) MoS2 nanostructures, enhancing interfacial polarization and multi-loss mechanisms. The SnCo/C@MoS2 exhibited remarkable microwave absorption properties, achieving a minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of -64.27 dB at a thickness of 1.52 mm and an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 5.20 GHz. Moreover, computer simulation technology (CST) demonstrated that SnCo/CNF@MoS2 simulated radar cross-section (RCS) values felled below -20 dB m2. These results demonstrated a substantial improvement in absorption performance compared to the individual SnCo/CNF and MoS2 components. This work underscored the effectiveness of combining 1D and 2D materials to obtain core-shell structures for superior electromagnetic wave (EMW) attenuation.

Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are generally considered as promising cheap alternatives of lithium-ion batteries for stationary renewable energy storage and have received increasing attention in recent years. The exploration of anode materials with efficient electron transportation is essential for improving the performance of SIBs. Inspired by the signal transfer mode of a neuron, we designed a composite by stringing MoS2 nanoflower (soma) with multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) (axons). High-resolution TEM observation reveals a lattice matching growth mechanism of MoS2 nanosheets on the interface of MWCNTs and the lattice expansion of the (002) plane of MoS2. The lattice matching among the MoS2 nanosheet and MWCNT could facilitate electron transfer and structure maintenance upon cycling. The expanded distance of the (002) plane of MoS2 would also promote the sodium-ion intercalation/deintercalation kinetics of the composite. Benefiting from the structural features, when used as an anode material for SIBs, the composite exhibits excellent electrochemical performance, including high specific capacity, excellent cycle stability, and superior rate capabilities. A stable capacity of 527.7 mAh g–1 can be achieved after 110 cycles at a current density of 100 mA g–1. The neuron-inspired design proposed is a promising and efficient strategy for the development of electrode materials for SIBs with high mass transport kinetics and structural stability.

To improve fertilizer use efficiency, reduce irrigation requirement, and minimize negative environmental impact, a novel large-grained-activated-lignite-slow-release fertilizer (LAF) with good water retention was developed by mechanical extrusion of activated lignite and conventional fertilizer. A 3D molybdate-sulfur hierarchical hollow nanosphere (3D-MoS2–HN) catalyst was successfully fabricated via a simple route, and the lignite was activated by 3D-MoS2–HN to increase its water-soluble humic acid content and nutrient adsorption ability. After activation, the amounts of small molecular active groups and water-soluble humic acid of activated lignite were significantly higher than those of raw lignite. The activation also increased adsorption ability of the activated lignite for nutrients. LAF prepared from the activated lignite had a preferable slow-release property and good water-holding capacity in soil. Moreover, a pot trial further demonstrated that LAF effectively improved the growth of an apple plant. With outstanding water-retention and slow-release capacities, this new fertilizer is economical and eco-friendly, and thus is promising in field applications.

In this paper, a MoS2/Rh–P bi-compound heterogeneous cocatalyst is developed to improve the photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting performance of a p-Si photocathode. Compared with the single cocatalysts (MoS2 and Rh–P), the bi-compound heterogeneous cocatalyst MoS2/Rh–P on the p-Si photocathode surface exhibits a much better hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity at the electrode/electrolyte interface, which is attributed to the synergistic electronic effect between MoS2 and Rh–P materials. Meanwhile, the TiO2 layer could serve as a linker between p-Si and the surface cocatalyst to optimize the interface energy, further promoting the photocarrier transfer process within the system. Thus, the as-prepared p-Si–TiO2–MoS2/Rh–P photocathode exhibits excellent PEC performance with a high photocurrent density of −24.1 mA cm−2 at 0 V (vs. RHE) and a positive onset potential of 0.43 V (vs. RHE). And the bi-compound heterogeneous cocatalyst provides a feasible strategy for boosting the PEC hydrogen evolution.

Reducing friction at the solid–liquid interfaces is critical for improving the efficiency of fluid transport, underwater equipment, and microfluidic devices. While macroscopic strategies have achieved significant friction reduction, experimental investigation into the underlying microscopic mechanisms remains limited, especially from atomic and electronic perspectives. In this work, an order-of-magnitude enhancement in slip length at the MoS2–water interface is achieved via self-assembled monolayers (SAMs), accompanied by measurable changes in interfacial electronic properties. Spectroscopic analyses performed in both air and aqueous environments reveal that the electronic state of MoS2 is jointly modulated by SAMs and interfacial water. Exciton recombination behavior under optical excitation serves as an indirect probe of interfacial electron transfer. Combined surface potential measurements and density functional theory simulations indicate that changes in surface electronic states may influence charge density which, along with SAM-induced hydrophobicity, governs the observed slip behavior. Electrostatic gating experiments further decouples the contribution of substrate hydrophobicity, enabling a more precise interpretation of the interfacial electronic influence. These findings suggest that interfacial electrons contribute to slip behavior at solid–liquid interfaces and offer valuable insights into electronic effects in nanoscale friction.

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) has garnered significant attention as a promising electromagnetic wave absorber, owing to its distinctive layered structure composed of S-Mo-S slabs, weak van der Waals interlayer forces, high specific surface area, and tunable morphology. These inherent properties are particularly advantageous for mitigating electromagnetic interference in emerging technologies such as 5 G wireless communication and wearable electronic devices. The ion intercalation technique commonly used in energy catalysis is utilized to enhance the absorbing performance of MoS 2 by increasing the spacing between layers and insert CoNi alloy into its layer. The developed MoS 2 /CoNi heterojunction absorber effectively suppress alloy oxidation while regulating the electromagnetic parameters and impedance matching of the composite, leading to a significant improvement in absorption performance. The results prove that the prepared MoS 2 /CoNi heterostructures exhibit excellent comprehensive electromagnetic wave absorption performance. All samples exhibit the minimum reflection loss values lower than −50 dB, with the corresponding matching frequencies being at low frequencies. Excellent absorbing performance is inseparable from the improvement of material structure, and the modification of MoS 2 by ion intercalation is the key core to improve electromagnetic wave absorption performance. This discovery provides a promising alternative technique that utilizes two-dimensional materials to develop simple, customizable and low-cost absorbers.

This article presents a review of current research on the use of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and its composites as promising materials for energy storage systems and functional coatings. Various MoS2morphologies, including nanoflowers, nanoplatelets, and nanorods, are considered, as well as their effects on electrochemical properties and specific capacity. Particular attention is paid to strategies for modifying MoS2using carbon nanomaterials (graphene, carbon nanotubes, porous carbon) and conductive polymers, which improve electrical conductivity, structural stability, and durability of electrodes. The important role of chemical vapor deposition (CVD), which allows the formation of uniform coatings with high purity, controlled thickness, and improved performance characteristics, is noted. A comparative analysis of advances in the application of MoS2in sodium-ion batteries, supercapacitors, and microwave absorbers is provided. It has been shown that the synergy of MoS2with carbon and polymer components, as well as the use of advanced deposition technologies, including CVD, opens new prospects for the development of low-cost, stable, and highly efficient energy storage devices.

Replacement of expensive state-of-art catalysts by cost-effective transition metal/composites is not only ease production of oxygen from water by electrochemical technique but also a step for the betterment of the green environment. In this regard, a composite of nickel and cobalt doped molybdenum disulfide (CoNiMoS 2 ) electrochemical catalyst was synthesized by a hydrothermal method which was found efficient for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in an alkaline medium with an overpotential of 1.477 mV at a current density of 1.0 mA.cm −2 . Morphology of catalysts were analyzed through SEM & TEM. The brief explanation is that the pristine MoS 2 and NiMoS 2 were appeared flower-like petal nano-sheets whereas CoMoS 2 & CoNiMoS 2 seemed as a cubic structures. XRD & X-ray patterns has confirms crystallinity and composition of elements in composites. With the help of linear swept voltammetry (LSV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), the polarization curves and charge transference resistance of catalysts were examined respectively.

A novel Ni nanoparticle-MoS 2 nanosheet hybrid was prepared by chemically reducing Ni nanoparticles on MoS 2 nanosheet for the non-enzymatic detection of glucose. The morphology and structure of the Ni-MoS 2 hybrid were investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results indicated that Ni nanoparticles with an average diameter of 6 nm were successfully deposited on MoS 2 nanosheet. Electrocatalytic activity of the as-prepared nanomaterials towards glucose oxidation was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and amperometric measurement in alkaline media. An excellent sensitivity value of 1824 μA mM −1 cm −2 with a wide linear range (up to 4 mM) and low detection limit of 0.31 μM were gained by Ni-MoS 2 hybrid fabricated sensor. The superior catalytic activity and low expense make Ni-MoS 2 hybrid very promising for applications in direct sensing of glucose.

The design and synthesis of non-precious metal-based bifunctional electrocatalysts with low cost and high performance for hydrogen and oxygen evolution in water are of great importance for renewable energy. Transition metal sulfides have attracted extensive interest owing to their easily adjustable electronic structures and rich chemical properties. Herein, the growth of MoS2–Ni3S2 on a nickel foam (MoS2–Ni3S2/NF) surface is investigated in the presence of urea, which can tune the morphology, surface electronic state and surface hydroxyl content of the product. The MoS2–Ni3S2/NF with optimal urea content shows remarkable electrocatalytic activity to hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions with the corresponding overpotential at 100 mA cm−2 of only 181 mV and 355 mV, respectively. Upon using the product as a bifunctional electrocatalyst for overall water splitting, an overvoltage as low as 1.56 V is required and the stability is excellent for more than 80 000 s at 10 mA cm−2.

Two-dimensional (2D) layered transition metal sulfide based materials are promising candidates for electrodes of lithium ion batteries (LIBs). As one of the representatives, molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ), exhibits additional reversible capacity beyond their theoretical value although the lithium storage mechanism is still poorly understood. In this report, we developed a highly conducting metallic phase 1T(octahedral)-MoS 2 based electrode with metal Mo atoms confined in “graphene nanoreactor” of abnormal lithium-storage sites, which delivered a high specific capacity of ~1800 mAh g −1 at 1 A g -1 , about 2.6 times of its intercalation reactions value. Contrary to previous reports, a new lithium-storage mechanism for the high and ever-increasing capacity was proposed. The theoretical calculations and experiments show that a major contribution to the extra capacity in MoS 2 anodes is due to Mo atoms accommodate with Li + . The Mo precipitates and their full contact with Li 2 S matrix enabled the reversible Mo→Li x Mo→Mo→1T-MoS 2 reaction during charging/discharging processes. Over prolonged cycling, per Mo atomic could accommodate six Li + ions. This new proposal could help to establish an accurate electrochemical reaction mechanism of MoS 2 LIBs, which may lead to inspiration on new methods to greatly improve the performance of the MoS 2 anode.
