Hydrogen energy is vital important for solving pollution of environment and energy shortage. Hydrogen production via solar energy and semiconductor photo-splitting water is one of the most environmentally friendly strategies at present. In this work, Co-N-C, a non-noble metal-based ZIF-67 derivative, was employed as a co-catalyst to achieve an in situ growth of spherical CdS via simple one-step hydrothermal. Due to the large specific surface area of Co-N-C, the agglomeration of CdS is avoided and the photocorrosion phenomenon is weakened. Under irradiation of visible light , the hydrogen generation activity of Co-N-C/CdS was achieved 905 μmol g −1 h −1 . It is 6 times that of pure CdS with excellent stability. At the contact interface of the Co-N-C and CdS, the transfer and the separation of photoinduced carriers had been enhanced by a great many of channels. DFT calculation further showed that Co nanoclusters , as the active sites of hydrogen production, significantly enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution activity. Therefore, Co-N-C not only acts as electron acceptor , but also serves as support of highly dispersed CdS to promote the stability of system during photocatalytic hydrogen generation. This work demonstrates the advantages of CdS binding MOF derivatives to construct composite photocatalysts with enhanced dispersibility and hydrogen production activity.

Substrate materials with high sensitivity and storage stability are crucial for the practical analytical application of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) techniques. In this work, a SERS-active substrate (Si/Au@Ag/ZIF-67) was fabricated with a metal–organic framework (ZIF-67) on a plasmonic surface (Si/Au@Ag) via self-assembly. The as-prepared material combined the properties of the abundant hotspots of the Au@Ag nanoparticles and the excellent adsorption performance of ZIF-67 for organic molecules. The synergy leads to high sensitivity of the composite substrate with a low detection limit for 4-aminothiophenol (a typical Raman reporter molecule) down to 2.0 × 10−9 M and the analytical enhancement factor (AEF) of the SERS substrate is 3.4 × 106. Moreover, the substrates exhibited good repeatability, high reproducibility, and reliable stability due to the MOF coating. The SERS signal was stable after 60 days of storage at room temperature. Ultimately, the optimal Si/Au@Ag/ZIF-67 was applied as a SERS sensor to analyze thiram, and the results showed a linear concentration range from 10−7 to 10−5 M with good linearity (R2 = 0.9934). The recoveries of thiram in spiked apple juice were in the range of 95.7–102.3%, with relative standard deviations less than 4.3%. These results predict that the proposed SERS substrates may hold great potential for the detection of environmental and food pollution in practical applications.

Fabricating photocatalysts with customizable structure and composition using different metal–organic framework (MOF) building blocks has intriguing implications in chemistry and material science, but it is challenging to do so. Here, a two-step synthetic strategy was designed to prepare MIL-125(Ti)@TiO2 hollow nanodiscs decorated with Co3S4 nanoparticles for CO2 photoreduction. The Co-based zeolite imidazolium ester backbone (ZIF-67) nanolayer was first loaded on the prepared MIL-125(Ti) nanodiscs to form core@shell MIL-125(Ti)@ZIF-67 nanodiscs. The following sulfidation process under solvothermal condition led to the production of MIL-125(Ti)@TiO2 hollow nanodiscs decorated with Co3S4 nanoparticles (MIL-125(Ti)@TiO2\Co3S4). This ternary hybrid catalyst with hollow nanodisc structure possessed a significantly enhanced charge separation efficiency and visible light absorption, along with offering a huge number of active sites. Considering the above advantages, the CO2 photoreduction activity of the optimized MIL-125(Ti)@TiO2\Co3S4 catalyst was significantly increased when compared to single-component catalysts (MIL-125(Ti), TiO2, and Co3S4) and binary hybrid catalysts (MIL-125(Ti)@TiO2 and TiO2\Co3S4) under simulated sunlight irradiation. CO is the main product with a productivity of 587.50 μmol g−1 h−1, which is almost seven times higher than that of pure MIL-125(Ti). The potential photocatalytic mechanism of the hybrid photocatalyst has also been demonstrated. This study presents a simple and effective technique for fabricating MOF-based hybrid catalysts for photocatalytic applications.

In recent years, the excellent pore volume, huge specific surface area, and easy functionalizable zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs), as new type of porous materials, attracted the attention of scientists. In this work, the new Co-based trimetallic Cu-Ni@ZIF-67 was synthesized using embedded the Cu-Ni precursor in ZIF-67. The structure, morphology and properties of Cu-Ni@ZIF-67 was characterized by the various analysis. The catalytic performance of Cu-Ni@ZIF-67 was investigated for tetracycline (TC) degradation and nitroarenes reduction at room temperature. The resultant catalyst was demonstrated excellent TC degradation efficiency by persulfate (PS) activation in the water during 30 min, and Cu-Ni@ZIF-67 was displayed superior catalytic activity for nitroarenes reduction in the presence of NaBH 4 . Comparing catalytic activity of Cu-Ni@ZIF-67 with Cu/ZIF-67, Ni/ZIF-67, Cu-Ni and ZIF-67 indicated higher activity of Cu-Ni@ZIF-67. Moreover, the recyclability and stability of this catalyst were surveyed.

Incorporating metal compound nanoparticles into zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) has emerged as an effective way to solve the low conductivity issue of ZIFs, helping to boost their electrochemical performance. However, the resultant ZIFs/metal compound composites usually lack hierarchical pores, which causes the electrochemical performance to be far below expectations. Here, two rational post-treating strategies, namely, Ni2+/H2O etching and solvent-assisted etching, have been proposed to tailor the structure and composition of ZIF-67/Ni3S4 composite. Especially, Ni2+/H2O etching enables the self-transformation of ZIF-67 to CoNi layered double hydroxide (LDH), while solvent-assisted etching creates hierarchical pores in ZIF-67. After post-treatments, both resultant samples display significant improvements in energy storage capability and cycling lifespan as compared to untreated ZIF-67/Ni3S4 owing to their superior features including the hierarchical pore structure, enhanced pseudocapacitance property, and less internal and charge transfer resistance. The tailoring strategies together with mechanism studied here can provide perspectives and constructive designing knowledge to promote the widespread use of ZIFs or Ni3S4 based advanced electrodes toward high-performance supercapacitors.

Herein, a new electrochemical aptasensor was developed for the highly selective and sensitive detection of thiamethoxam (TMX). Co-N doped porous carbon (Co N C) was first modified on the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) as a conductive substrate. Then, nickel hexacyanoferrate nanoparticles (NiHCFNPs) were drop-coated on Co N C as signal probes to generate measurable redox peaks. Benefiting from the superior structural features and catalytic activity, Co N C not only facilitated the immobilization of NiHCFNPs, but also exhibited good catalytic activity for the redox of NiHCFNPs, thus clearly amplifying the sensing signal. Subsequently, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were deposited on NiHCFNPs/Co N C/GCE to anchor the aptamer of TMX. When TMX was captured onto the sensor via specific affinity of the aptamer, the formed TMX-Apt complex impeded electron transfer, resulting in a decrease in the peak current. Thus, TMX can be easily detected by measuring the change in peak current. The label-free aptasensor displays high sensitivity to TMX with a quite low LOD of 3.65 × 10 -3 μg/L. The acceptable recoveries of environmental water and potato samples varied from 94.05 % to 105.20 %, demonstrating the proposed aptasensor will be a promising tool for the highly sensitive, specific and reliable detection of TMX in both environmental and food matrices.

Constructing advanced nanostructures and combining various active materials are effective strategies to obtain high-performance anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Herein, we report a surface-coordinated polymerization method to synthesize ZIF-67 nanoparticles with a reuleaux tetrahedron morphology, and combine the electrostatic adsorption method and heat treatment, nitrogen-doped hollow porous Co 3 O 4 (HP-Co 3 O 4 /NC) nanoparticles were anchored on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) to obtain HP-Co 3 O 4 /NC@rGO composites. This deliberate structural design can significantly improve the electrochemical performance of lithium (Li) storage. When applied as an anode material in LIBs, HP-Co 3 O 4 /NC@rGO nanocomposite renders a reversible capacity of 809 mAh g −1 after 200 charge/discharge cycles at a current density of 1000 mA g −1 . The excellent electrochemical performance is mainly attributed to the synergistic effect of the hollow nanostructure and graphene network. A hollow nanostructure can provide abundant active sites and enhance structural stability. As a conductive network, graphene tightly wraps Co 3 O 4 , which can not only increase the electronic and ionic transport but also alleviates the volumetric changes of Co 3 O 4 during the charge/discharge process, thereby improving the rate performance and cyclic stability.

To solve the problem that it is difficult to recycle the ZIF-67 in aqueous solution, a porous self- supporting material (KGM/GO) was prepared by using biomass KGM. And then ZIF-67 crystal was loaded onto KGM/GO solid substrate by in-situ growth method so that a novel KGM/GO/ZIF-67 composite aerogel was obtained. FT-IR and SEM characterization showed that ZIF-67 was successfully loaded on KGM/GO substrate by covalent bonding, and the adsorption site of composite aerogel surface was uniform. The N 2 adsorption/desorption testing results showed that the porosity of composite aerogel changed from 86.48 % to 91.18 % after loading ZIF-67. It provides enough diffusion channel and active adsorption sites. Moreover, the as-prepared composite aerogel showed excellent adsorption ability to both methylene blue and methyl orange, and the maximum adsorption capacities were as high as 185.67 mg/g (pH = 8) and 130.2 mg/g (pH = 2), respectively. Noted that after five cycles, the adsorption capacity to methylene blue and methyl orange were still up to 174.4 mg/g and 118.3 mg/g, which exhibited high adsorption capacity and excellent reusability. Therefore, loading ZIF-67 on KGM/GO substrate can enhance the adsorption and recovery performance of ZIF-67. The method provides a new possibility for the treatment of complex dye-containing wastewater.

The primary challenge for efficient H2 evolution and hydrogen energy conversion is to develop highly active and stable catalysts with simple and reliable preparation processes. In this regard, we have designed and synthesized a porous carbon-supported low-Pt alloy catalyst (Pt3Co/Co@C composite) using ZIF-67 as a template. It showed uniformly dispersed Pt3Co/Co on the porous carbon layer due to the confinement effect of the porous carbon layer. Pt3Co/Co@C demonstrated excellent activity for the hydrogen evolution reaction in the full pH range, with an overpotential of 187 mV in 0.5 M H2SO4 to attain 100 mA/cm2 as well as long-term stability. It also displayed superior mass activity for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) at 0.85 V (vs RHE) compared to the commercial Pt/C. Furthermore, the Pt3Co/Co@C catalyst exclusively enabled a four-electron reaction process under ORR conditions without the competitive pathway to H2O2. The current work provides guidance for the design and facile synthesis of Pt-based catalysts with enhanced performance.

Transition metal sulfides (TMSs) have become promising candidates as electrode materials in energy storage fields thanks to the high theoretical capacity. However, their application is hindered by depressed electrical conductivity and poor cycling performance. Herein, we proposed a ZIF-67 derived, nitrogen-doped, graphene-coated and carbon nanotubes-interlinked 3D Co 3 S 4 /C conductive network (N–Co 3 S 4 -GN/CNT) for high-performance supercapacitors . Through controlling the mass ratio of ZIF-67, melamine and g-C 3 N 4 , various microstructures with determined electrochemical performance could be achieved. The nanocomposites synthesized with the ingredient mass ratio of 2: 1: 1 (NCSC-211) were proven to have the most excellent comprehensive electrochemical properties . In the NCSC-211 nanostructure , multi-layer graphene function as conductive shells for improved cycling performance by alleviating pulverization caused by volume change, thick CNTs act as conductive bridges and agglomeration spacers that increase electron conductivity and provide more active sites for redox reaction and doped-nitrogen offer enhanced wettability to electrolyte and faster electron transfer . The NCSC-211 electrode displayed specific capacitance of 1158 F g −1 at 1 A g −1 , rate capability of 86% at 10 A g −1 and extraordinary cycling stability with 97.2% capacitive retention after 4000 cycles. Furthermore, the assembled asymmetric supercapacitor NCSC-211//activated carbon exhibited energy density of 43.73/37.69 Wh kg −1 at power density of 800/8000 W kg −1 and capacity retention of 95.3% after 5000 cycles at 5 A g −1 . The designing strategy of in-situ grown instead of additional added conductive phase that fully-covered and strongly-interlinked network nanostructure may pave the road towards TMSs in synthesizing energy storage materials by compensating their intrinsic drawbacks.

Designing hierarchical micro/nanostructures on the surface of a membrane to endow it with underwater superoleophobic properties and oil-fouling resistance, poses a considerable challenge. In this study, we propose an elaborate method for depositing layered double hydroxides (LDHs) on a ZIF-67 surface grown along nanofibers , resulting in a nanoflower-branched nanofibrous membrane (ZnCo-LDH@PAN) with an abundant cavity structure. The ZnCo-LDH@PAN membrane exhibited excellent mechanical and superdrophilic/underwater superoleophobic properties, reaching an outstanding separation efficiency (>99.0 %) for crude oil emulsion and various sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) stabilized oil/water emulsions, and a separation flux of up to 5434.8 L m −2 h −1 under a low-pressure drive. In the continuous separation of 1700 mL emulsion, the efficiency remained relatively stable, and the FRR (flux recovery rate) can be as high as 97.8 %. Further, the ZnCo-LDH@PAN membrane exhibited good mechanical and chemical stabilities. Overall, this study presents an advanced approach for designing separation membranes by combining LDHs with nanofiber-derived materials.

Lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) are considered the most likely replacement for conventional lithium–ion batteries in next-generation high-energy output solutions based on their high specific capacity (1675 mAh g −1 ) and high-energy density (2600 Wh kg −1 ). But, there are some problems that need to be solved urgently. In this work, an environmentally friendly, green, and low-cost ZIF-67-derived cobalt-based sulfate material (CoSO 4 ) combined with carbon nanotubes was proposed as a sulfur host material. Experiments show that the addition of CoSO 4 can significantly enhance the transformation of polysulfide and suppress the shuttle effect. The best performance is the CNT-CoSO 4 -2/S, which has an initial capacity of 1356.9 mAh g −1 at 0.1 C current density. Furthermore, long-term cycle test was carried out at a current density of 0.2 C; the coulombic efficiency was above 98.63% after 200 cycles. This work demonstrates the potential of cobalt-based sulfates as cathode materials for lithium–sulfur batteries.
