Membrane separation technology demonstrates preeminent advantages in the field of oily wastewater treatment. However, the coexistence of oily emulsions and soluble organic pollutants in oily wastewater poses stringent challenge to the performance of membrane materials. To address this issue, this study employed an biomimetic co-deposition technique to construct a 3D hydrangea-like ZnIn 2 S 4 /C 3 N 5 heterojunction structure on the surface of poly(arylene ether nitrile)(PEN) porous support, conferring the superior permeability and photocatalytic self-cleaning capacity. The free deposition and arrangement of the 3D hydrangea-like ZnIn 2 S 4 /C 3 N 5 heterojunction effectively broke through the limitation of separation flux. Benefiting from its superhydrophilic/underwater oleophobic property, low oil adhesion, and precisely regulated water channel structure, the ZnIn 2 S 4 /C 3 N 5 @PEN composite membrane exhibited outstanding permeation performance (with a flux reaching 784–946 L m −2 h −1 ) while maintaining a stable rejection efficiency of over 99 % when treating various stable water-in-oil emulsions. The cross-linking network formed by the 3D hydrangea-like ZnIn 2 S 4 /C 3 N 5 heterojunction, sodium alginate, and dopamine effectively enhanced the structural stability and anti-fouling performance of the membrane's functional layer. Notably, the synergy between ZnIn 2 S 4 and C 3 N 5 endowed the membrane with efficient photocatalytic degradation capability for soluble organic compounds. Under visible light irradiation, the degradation rate of MeB reached as high as 95.93 % within 2 h.

All-solid-state Z-scheme CdS/QDs/ZnIn 2 S 4 architectures with MoS 2 quantum dots as solid-state electron mediator were successfully designed and constructed by optimally combining one-dimensional CdS nanorods, zero-dimensional MoS 2 quantum dots (QDs) and two-dimensional ZnIn 2 S 4 nanosheets. The photocatalytic water splitting for hydrogen evolution demonstrated that such structural design can synergistically trigger remarkably improved visible-light-driven photocatalytic activity. Photocatalytic H 2 -evolution at 2107.5 μmol g −1 h −1 was achieved on this CdS/QDs/ZnIn 2 S 4 architectures under visible light irradiation, exceeding those of bare CdS nanorods and pure ZnIn 2 S 4 nanosheets by a factor of 26 and 62, respectively. This highly efficient photocatalytic activity arises from the effective charge separation and favourable electron mediator of MoS 2 QDs. The Z-scheme charge separation mechanism was verified by the ESR, PL-TA and organic electron acceptor test.

Nowadays, water pollution issues caused by antibiotics and heavy metals have become a focus of global concern, and it is greatly significant to develop effective methods to remove heavy metal and organic contaminant from wastewater. Herein, newly-designed Cu 2 S/ZnIn 2 S 4 p-n heterojunction with internal electric field is constructed by using epitaxial growth strategy. Importantly, lattice well-matched heterointerface between Cu 2 S and ZnIn 2 S 4 presents very low charge transfer resistance. Under the mediation of internal electric field, the generation and separation of photogenerated carriers are effectively improved, and the formation of hollow structure enhances visible light absorption capability. Benefiting from these changes, photogenerated electrons and holes can be directly involved in tetracycline (TC) degradation and Cr(VI) reduction, avoiding intermediate reaction processes. Under visible light illumination, thus, Cu 2 S/ZnIn 2 S 4 composite shows superb performance in the treatment of wastewater containing both antibiotic and Cr(VI). The removal efficiencies of TC and Cr(VI) are as high as 96.7 % and 94.1 % within 32 min, respectively. Interestingly, Cr(VI) reduction over Cu 2 S/ZnIn 2 S 4 is a stepwise process, and Cr(VI) is first reduced to Cr(V) and then transformed into Cr(III). Notably, Cr(V) with strong oxidation ability as transition intermediate can further promote antibiotic degradation.

Aiming to the unwanted photocatalytic hydrogen production systems using sacrifice agents, a well-design S-scheme O-ZnIn 2 S 4 /TiO 2- x heterojunction was fabricated to realize photocatalytic hydrogen production via water reduction coupled with organic oxidative dehydrogenation. As supported by DFT calculations and experimental analysis, owing to the synergistic effect of oxygen defect and doping engineering, a tailored energy band structure alignment with higher redox potentials and larger Fermi level potential difference are achieved, resulting in more efficient S-scheme interface charge transfer and separation efficiency, thus improving the photocatalytic activity of O-ZnIn 2 S 4 /TiO 2- x . The optimal O-ZnIn 2 S 4 /TiO 2- x photocatalyst shows remarkable H 2 and benzaldehyde production rate of 2584.9 μmol g -1 h −1 and 2880.5 μmol g -1 h −1 under visible light, which are 52.5 and 66.4 times as high as those over blank TiO 2 . Interestingly, this coupled reaction system also displays superior H 2 evolution activity compared to sacrificial reagent systems of Na 2 SO 3 /Na 2 S and triethanolamine. Further quenching and EPR experiments reveal that both water and organic molecules provide protons for H 2 production.

Defective-rich and electron-rich mesoporous NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti)@ZnIn 2 S 4 /CdS hierarchical tandem heterojunctions were fabricated through two-step solvothermal and one-step hydrothermal strategies. The interface with electron enrichment can cause active interface reaction, fast transfer and separation of charge carriers and restrain the photocorrosion of CdS. ZnIn 2 S 4 , as a bridge to connect Ti-MOFs and CdS, favors the separation of charge carriers and forms tandem heterojunctions. The as-prepared photocatalyst has a relative large surface area of ∼877.0 m 2 g −1 and a narrow band gap of ∼1.84 eV, which could absorb visible light efficiently. Furthermore, it exhibits a high photocatalytic hydrogen generation rate which was increased to 2.367 mmol g −1 h −1 and the high photocatalytic degradation efficiency for 2,6-dichlorophen and 2,4,5-trichlorophenol which were 98.6% and 97.5%, respectively. Additionally, recycling text for several cycles indicates the high stability. This novel Ti-MOFs based core@shell hierarchical tandem heterojunctions may offer a new insight for fabricating high-performance heterojunctions for multi-channel charges transfer.

Herein, we report the synthesis of ZnIn 2 S 4 nanoparticles on bulk WC by a facile hydrothermal process to construct novel and highly efficient noble metal-free Schottky junction heterojunction photocatalysts. Morphology characterization revealed that the ZnIn 2 S 4 nanoparticles were deposited on the surface of the WC. Meanwhile, the combination of the ZnIn 2 S 4 and the metal-like WC formed the Schottky energy barrier, which greatly promoted the migration and separation of photo-generated carriers. Especially, the optimal ZnIn 2 S 4 /WC photocatalysts have a lower overpotential for hydrogen evolution (−0.35 V) than pristine ZnIn 2 S 4 (−0.49 V). The hydrogen production ability of the optimal ZnIn 2 S 4 /WC photocatalyst (2400.3 μmol·h −1 ·g −1 ) was approximately 9.2 times higher than that of ZnIn 2 S 4 -1% Pt (260.1 μmol·h −1 ·g −1 ). Photocatalytic experiments demonstrated that metal-like WC plays an important role in replacing precious metal to increase the active site of ZnIn 2 S 4 . Moreover, a feasible Schottky junction reaction mechanism of intensive photocatalytic activity was discussed. This study proves that it is a very fascinating strategy to combine the advantages of ZnIn 2 S 4 and metal-like to construct Schottky heterojunction for photocatalytic hydrogen production.

The key to achieve an efficient cooperative photoredox reaction system is to elaborately construct high-efficiency multifunctional photocatalysts with the maximum carrier utilization. Herein, a well-design S-scheme MIL-88B (Fe)/ZIS heterojunction modified with amorphous CoS 1+x cocatalyst (CMZIS) was firstly successfully constructed. The CMZIS heterojunctions show a high H 2 evolution rate of 3164.9 μmol g −1 h −1 coupling with a benzaldehyde generation rate of 3417.8 μmol g −1 h −1 , which are 7.9 and 8.1 times higher than those of pure ZIS. The excellent performance of CMZIS heterojunctions benefits from the synergistic effect of S-Scheme heterojunction and CoS 1+x cocatalysts. This synergy realized the directional transfer and spatial separation of photogenerated carriers in CMZIS, thus inhibiting charge recombination and and maximizing the redox ability of charge carriers. Moreover, CoS 1+x cocatalyst offer more active sites and further enhance the H 2 evolution efficiency. This work will offer fresh insights to the construction and mechanism study of advanced multifunctional photocatalysts for the highly efficient cooperative photoredox reaction system.

To solve the problem of energy shortage and environmental pollution, the construction of properly designed photocatalysts is a promising method. Here, UiO-66-(COOH) 2 /ZnIn 2 S 4 Z-scheme photocatalyst decorated with MoS 2 nanosheets was designed and constructed as a novel 3D hierarchical structure via hydrothermal methods. In this particular 3D hierarchical structure, the UiO-66-(COOH) 2 nanoparticles are decorated in the interweaving petal nanosheets of ZnIn 2 S 4 microspheres, while the co-catalyst of MoS 2 is folded at the edge of these interweaving petals. The excellent heterojunctions with highly exposed catalytic active sites are correspondingly built, and the close interfacial interaction between UiO-66-(COOH) 2 , MoS 2 and ZnIn 2 S 4 create a stage for fast transfer of photogenerated electrons, which are both effective for the photocatalytic reaction process. Also, the Z-scheme charge-transfer process improves the oxidizability and reducibility between UiO-66-(COOH) 2 and ZnIn 2 S 4 . As a result, the optimized UiO-66-(COOH) 2 /MoS 2 /ZnIn 2 S 4 photocatalyst exhibits excellent photocatalytic hydrogen production (18.794 mmol h −1 g −1 ) and reduction of Cr(VI) (0.06850 min −1 ) under simulated solar light irradiation, which are 15.3 and 6.7 times higher than that of bare ZnIn 2 S 4 , respectively, and also the prominent stability and excellent recyclability are obtained. This study provides new insights into the research on the Z-scheme system containing MOF components for growing energy and environmental demands.
