Raman spectroscopy data of p -toluamide (PTA) polycrystals in the spectral region of 100–3500 cm −1 under high pressure have been collected up to 14.8 GPa at room temperature. Raman spectra exhibited distinct changes during compression, including the appearance of new Raman bands, disappearance of original Raman bands, and discontinuous changes in Raman shifts. The pressure dependence of the Raman shifts of PTA has been obtained. Detailed Raman spectral analysis suggested that compression induces three structural phase transitions of PTA within the investigated pressure range: phase I to II at 1.8 GPa, phase II to III at 5.5 GPa, and phase III to IV at 13.1 GPa. Moreover, the effect of pressure on the N H stretching vibrational modes has been analyzed based on the hydrogen bonds rearrangements among PTA molecules. This study provides a comprehensive understanding of PTA vibrational mode assignments and valuable insights into the amide structure stability for medicinal and pharmacological applications.

Twisted HPZ monomer enables tunable separation layer microstructure via NaOH-modulated interfacial polymerization. • HPZ@0.33 achieves high selectivity, while HPZ@0.50 delivers ultrahigh permeability. • Rigid non-planar conformation increases free volume and enhances pore connectivity. • Dual-membrane technology achieves resource recovery of high-salinity dye wastewater. The microstructure of polymer membranes critically governs two key performance parameters, namely permeance and selectivity, and thus directly influencing overall separation efficiency. Novel loose nanofiltration (LNF) membranes were prepared by interfacial polymerization using p -hydroxyphenylpiperazine (HPZ), a nonplanar aqueous phase monomer containing phenolic hydroxyl and secondary amine groups. By modulating NaOH additive concentrations, hierarchical tuning of the separation layer's microstructure was achieved by altering ester-amide condensation-hydrolysis equilibria. The optimized HPZ@0.33 membrane (0.33 wt% NaOH) demonstrated exceptional selectivity with a Congo red/NaCl separation factor of 210 and a permeance of 40 L m −2 h −1 ·bar −1 . Increasing NaOH concentration to 0.50 wt% induced ester bond hydrolysis, expanding pore radii and reducing layer thickness. This yielded the HPZ@0.50 membrane with ultrahigh permeance (220 L m −2 h −1 ·bar −1 ) while maintaining 98.65% Congo red rejection. Due to the twisted conformation and rigid benzene ring of HPZ, the as-prepared separation layer had a high porosity and improved the pore interconnection, enabling it to operate stably at low pressure (0.5-2 bar). Furthermore, dual-membrane coupling technology effectively desalinated high-salinity dye wastewater. This study provides insights into mitigating the permeability-selectivity trade-off in membrane design, offering a potentially scalable and cost-effective strategy to advance resource recovery in sustainable water management systems. Chemoresistance remains a major obstacle to the efficacy of cancer chemotherapy. The tumor mechanical microenvironment such as substrate stiffness, fluid shear stress, and solid stress can considerably influence drug resistance. Compared with normal tissues (∼0.7 cP), high extracellular fluid viscosity (∼8 cP) is another typical mechanical feature of tumors. However, whether cancer cells can sense this mechanical stimulus and engage mechanosensitive signaling to influence chemoresistance remains unclear. We found that high-viscosity treatment promotes P-gp (ABCB1) expression, enhancing doxorubicin (DOX) chemoresistance. The elevated viscosity increased the density of the F-actin–vinculin cytoskeleton and promoted Na + /H + exchanger 1 (NHE1)/aquaporin 1 (AQP1)-dependent water influx, increasing cell membrane tension, as suggested by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and fluorescence lifetime measurements. This high tension may enhance the activity of the mechanosensitive channel transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 (TRPV4), which promotes Yes-associated protein (YAP) nuclear translocation, as evidenced by increased intracellular Ca 2+ fluorescence and nuclear YAP fluorescence intensity. The elevated expression of the YAP target genes CTGF and CYR61 indicates the enhanced transcriptional activity of nuclear-localized YAP. The inhibition of YAP transcriptional activity suppressed the high viscosity–induced increases of P-gp mRNA and protein levels, supporting the YAP dependence of P-gp upregulation. Reducing tumor viscosity may provide new insights for overcoming drug resistance in clinical settings.

Conventional n–i–p architecture remains a robust platform for scalable perovskite photovoltaics 1 , 2 , yet its steady-state efficiency has stagnated at about 26% (ref. 3 ), lagging behind their p–i–n counterparts 4 . This performance gap arises from persistent non-radiative recombination at textured electron transport layer (ETL)/perovskite interfaces, yet the underlying physical origin remains unknown. Here we show that these losses originate from the synergistic combination of band misalignment and electron accumulation at the buried interface. To address this dual challenge, we develop a continuously graded n + /n-doped SnO 2 ETL through a ligand-competitive binding strategy, which enables spatially defined doping that creates a built-in electric field. This graded architecture simultaneously minimizes band offset and accelerates electron extraction, thereby effectively suppressing the cross-interface recombination. The resulting n–i–p perovskite solar cells (PSCs) achieve a certified steady-state power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 27.17% (27.50% in reverse scan), the highest for n–i–p PSCs reported so far. The scalability of this strategy is further demonstrated by achieving a PCE of 25.79% for a 1 cm 2 device and 23.33% for a perovskite module with a 16.02 cm 2 aperture area. This work establishes a generalized example for energy-band engineering in metal-oxide transport layers, overcoming a fundamental efficiency bottleneck in conventional perovskite photovoltaics.

Based on the rigid structure and conjugation effect of terphenyl, a series of p-terphenyl copolymers (TP-x) were synthesized in this study to investigate the effect of p-terphenyl group on the thermal, optical, and processability of the materials. It was found that Td of the polymers increased from 390 °C (10% p-triphenyl content) to 407 °C (30% p-triphenyl content) in O2. In addition, the fluorescence intensity of the polymer in liquid state enhanced with the enhancement of p-terphenyl content. However, in the solid state, the fluorescence intensity of the samples actually decreased with the increase of p-terphenyl. This is related to the aggregation state of molecular chains. In order to avoid the fluorescence quenching phenomenon caused by the stacking of molecular chains, the polymers were produced into the nanofiber membranes. The electrospun fibers exhibited the bright blue. The fluorescence stability of the fiber membranes were further studied via immersing the fiber sample in different pH solutions. The results showed that the membranes exhibited relatively stable luminescence under acidic conditions, and the fluorescence retention rate under alkaline conditions could reach to 86.5%. This indicates that the polymer membranes developed in this work can be the competitive candidate for flexible fluorescent labeling.

Superionic conductors, which exhibit liquid-like phonon transport but crystal-like carrier transport, have attracted great attention and broad research interest in the thermoelectric community. Ag 2 Te is a superionic conductor; however, its small band gap and large Ag vacancy formation energy impede its application as a prominent p-type thermoelectric material. In this work, synergistic optimization of the thermoelectric performance of Ag 2 Te through Cu substitution is realized through a combination of experimental and theoretical efforts. For the electrical transport, Cu substitution systematically increases the band gap of Ag 2 Te and reduces the cation vacancy formation energy. These two beneficial effects simultaneously increase the electrical conductivity and suppress the bipolar effect, thereby greatly enhancing the p-type electrical transport properties of Ag 2 Te. For the thermal transport, alloying Cu 2 Te with Ag 2 Te significantly reduces the thermal conductivity through not only point defect scattering but also softening of the interatomic interactions. The latter is attributed to the relatively small Cu atoms vibrating in the oversized 8c sites. This two-fold optimization results in maximum thermoelectric figure of merit zT values of over 1.3 at 773 K for both Ag 1.2 Cu 0.8 Te and AgCuTe, demonstrating the great potential of Ag 2− x Cu x Te as a promising p-type thermoelectric material system.

Polyvinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene [P(VDF-TrFE)] polymer materials possess good piezoelectric properties , leading to their use in many practical applications as sensors and transducers. However, pure P(VDF-TrFE) exhibits relatively brittle properties and low thermal resistance . In this work, porous P(VDF-TrFE)/PBDMS flexible materials were designed by embedding a low Young's modulus polyborosiloxane (PBDMS) into the [P(VDF-TrFE)] structure. These P(VDF-TrFE)/PBDMS porous polymer materials exhibit excellent flexibility and piezoelectric response to external stimuli such as bending, shock, vibration, and breathing. The output voltage of these polymer materials can be maintained at a high value of 8.25 V over 6600 cycles of continuous vibration. In addition, the porous polymer materials generate a transient voltage response when in contact with small droplets of water at different temperatures. This work provides a novel approach for designing lightweight and wearable piezoelectric sensors for potential applications in human motion monitoring, mechanical vibration monitoring, and pyroelectric devices.

p-Nitrophenol (PNP), a widely used chemical intermediate, exhibits stubborn resistance to conventional oxidation treatments due to its high toxicity, electron-deficient nature, and the high stability of its aromatic ring. To address the bottlenecks of low mineralization efficiency of PNP by traditional ozonation and the limited spectral utilization of conventional PCO systems. Herein, we constructed a photocatalytic–ozone synergistic system based on perylene diimide-based organic polymers (Urea-PDI/O 3 /vis). Owing to the broad spectral response of the polymers, the light-responsive range of this coupled system can be extended to the near-infrared region up to 700 nm. The degradation rate of PNP in this system is 25 times higher than that in the photocatalytic system alone and 2.42 times greater than that in the ozone system alone. More importantly, the mineralization efficiency of PNP is significantly enhanced in the Urea-PDI/O 3 /vis, reaching a value three times higher than that of the traditional ozone system. Mechanism investigation reveals that the denitrification efficiency for PNP is comparable between the ozonation and photocatalytic–ozone systems. However, the photocatalytic–ozone process demonstrates a marked superiority in the subsequent ring cleavage and mineralization via decarboxylation of small-molecular organic acids. In contrast to the direct ozonation mechanism dominated by electrophilic and dipolar addition reactions, the Urea-PDI/O 3 /vis efficiently utilizes photogenerated electrons to convert ozone into hydroxyl radicals in large quantities, which enables highly efficient mineralization of PNP. This study will provide new insights into the removal of PNP in water.

P-15, a synthetic peptide of 15-amino acids, has been tested in clinical trials to enhance cell adhesion and promote osseointe- gration. This feature of P-15 has also inspired the development of designing new bone substitute materials. Despite the increasing applications of P-15 in bone graft alternatives, few studies focus on the mechanism of cell adhesion promoted by P-15 and the mechanical property changes of the cells interacting with P-15. In this article, we used atomic force microscope (AFM) based single cell indentation force spectroscopy to study the impact of P-15 on the stiffness and the adhesion ability of human jaw bone mesenchymal stem cells (HJMSCs) to hydroxyapatite (HA). We found that the stiffness of HJMSCs increases as the concentration of P-15 grows in short culture intervals and that the adhesion forces between HJMSCs and HA particles in both the presence and absence of P-15 are all around 30pN. Moreover, by calculating the binding energy of HJMSCs to HA particles mixed with and without P-15, we proved that P-15 could increase the adhesion energy by nearly four times. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) was also exploited to study the morphology of HJMSCs cultured in the presence and absence of P-15 on HA disc surface for a short term. Apparent morphological differences were observed between the cells cultured with and without P-15. These results explain the probable underlying adhesion mechanism of HJMSC promoted by P-15 and can serve as the bases for the design of bone graft substitute materials.

Bismuth telluride-based alloys are widely used as commercial thermoelectric materials around room temperature. In this study, Bi 0.46 Sb 1.54 Te 3 alloys were synthesized using a solid-state reaction method with precise control of the Bi/Sb stoichiometric ratio. Increasing Bi content enhanced the bond polarity, raising the formation energy of antisite defects, and reducing carrier concentration. The carrier concentration decreased from 5 . 7 × 1 0 19 cm −3 to 4 . 2 × 1 0 19 cm −3 . Additionally, SEM observations identified a significant presence of precipitates, while TEM analysis revealed nano-sized secondary phases within the matrix. Due to the scattering of phonons by precipitates on the grain surfaces and nano-sized secondary phases, the lattice thermal conductivity near room temperature was significantly reduced to 0.29 W/m K. The optimized composition achieved a peak ZT of 1.59 at 350 K and an average ZT (ZT ave ) of 1.46 between 300–500 K. This work demonstrates that controlling the Bi/Sb ratio is an effective strategy to improve the thermoelectric performance of (Bi,Sb) 2 Te 3 alloys.

Poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxazole)/poly(pyridobisimidazole) block copolymers (PBO-b-PIPD) were prepared by introducing poly(pyridobisimidazole) (PIPD) moieties into the main chains of poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxazole) (PBO) in order to enhance its photostability. PBO and copolymer fibers were directly prepared from the polymerization solutions by dry-jet wet-spinning. Chemical structures and molecular chains arrangement of the block copolymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, solid-state 13C-NMR and wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD). Thermal stability of the copolymers was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) in nitrogen. Thin films of PBO and copolymers were cast from methanesulfonic acid (MSA) solutions. Both the films and fibers were exposed to UV light to determine their photostability. Changes in the chemical structures and surface morphologies of the films were characterized by FTIR spectra and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), respectively. After UV light exposure, the retention of strength for copolymer fibers is improved compared to PBO fibers. The results revealed that copolymers suffered less photodegradation in comparison with homopolymer. The mechanism for the improved photostability of the copolymers was discussed.

Owing to the unique crystal structure and eco-friendliness of the Zintl-phase Mg 3 Sb 2 compound, it has become a research hotspot in the field of thermoelectric materials. Particularly, the key lies in the optimization of its p-type thermoelectric properties. In this work, Ag doping was implemented in the ternary Mg 3 Sb 1.4 Bi 0.6 matrix, which realized the simultaneous improvement of both the electrical and thermal properties in such materials. At 723 K, the maximum power factor of the Mg 2.99 Ag 0.01 Sb 1.4 Bi 0.6 sample reached 6.8 µW cm −1 K −2 , which was approximately three times that of the undoped sample (~2.3 µW cm −1 K −2 at 723 K). In addition, Ag doping introduced extra lattice disorders and point defects, which enhanced the phonon scattering effect and thus led to a significant suppression of lattice thermal conductivity. Specifically, the Mg 2.96 Ag 0.04 Sb 1.4 Bi 0.6 sample achieved a low lattice thermal conductivity of ~0.47 W m −1 K −1 at 723 K. Ultimately, the peak zT value of the Mg 2.99 Ag 0.01 Sb 1.4 Bi 0.6 sample goes up to 0.68 at 723 K, which was three times higher than that of the undoped sample. This study provides an important reference for subsequent research on optimizing the thermoelectric performance of p-type Mg 3 Sb 2 -based materials.
