Narrow bandgap silver selenide (Ag2Se) is a promising candidate for noninvasive in vivo imaging in the long-wavelength region of the second near-infrared window (NIR-IIc, 1700–2000 nm), yet precise control over its size remains challenging due to ineffective regulation of nucleation and growth, largely constrained by its extremely low solubility product. Here, we reveal a growth bottleneck in the Ag2Se quantum dots (QDs) synthesis arising from rapid monomer depletion during nucleation. The sole use of strongly binding thiol ligands further confines the system to a thermodynamically metastable size regime, hindering the continuous growth required for precise spectral tuning. By employing a dual-ligand strategy combining strongly binding thiol ligands with labile oleate ligands, we modulate monomer supersaturation and the dynamic adsorption–desorption equilibrium on the nanocrystal surface, thereby suppressing nucleation to preserve sufficient monomer for subsequent monomer diffusion-limited growth. This approach yields size-tunable Ag2Se QDs with emission peaks extending into the NIR-IIc window. Furthermore, the synergistic passivation by zinc oleate ligands significantly improves the size dispersity and colloidal stability of large-sized Ag2Se QDs. Our in-depth investigation not only addresses challenges in size control of QDs exhibiting nonclassical growth but also highlights the transformative potential of low-toxicity, NIR-IIc-emissive Ag2Se QDs for optoelectronics and noninvasive deep-tissue imaging.

An acid-amide bicomponent gelator, composed of 3,3’-dithiodipropionic acid and octadecylamine in a 1:2 molar ratio, was developed to construct supramolecular oil gels in base oils. The gelation mechanism involves the spontaneous self-assembly of gelator molecules into a well-defined 3D lamellar network, driven by van der Waals interactions and electrostatic forces. The representative poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG200) gel exhibited exceptional properties, including reversible heat and shear thixotropic behaviors, as well as high thermal stability, making it a promising candidate for semi-solid lubricants. The tribological evaluations revealed that the PEG200 gel (containing 6 wt% gelator) significantly outperformed the base oil, achieving the remarkable reductions in friction (37.96-57.92%) and wear (43.71-59.06%) under demanding conditions such as high load, elevated temperature, and prolonged duration. Moreover, the addition of 6 wt% gelator enhanced the load-carrying capacity of neat base oil from 300 N to at least 600 N. The superior tribological performance of PEG200 gel was attributed to the formation of a complex boundary lubrication film on the friction interface, consisting of a physical adsorption layer and a robust tribofilm. This dual-layer structure effectively minimizes the friction and wear, highlighting the potential of supramolecular gel lubricants for advanced mechanical lubrication applications.

This study investigates the novel application of polyetheramine (PEA) as an eco-friendly collector for quartz-mica flotation separation under pH-neutral conditions, focusing on its flotation behavior, adsorption mechanisms, and separation efficacy compared to the conventional dodecylamine (DDA). The single mineral flotation demonstrated the superior selectivity of PEA, achieving an 87 % flotation recovery differential (93 % for quartz vs. 6 % for mica), significantly outperforming the 26 % differential of DDA. The mixed minerals (mass ratio: Quartz/Mica = 2/1) flotation shows that PEA can effectively separate the quartz and the mica. Composition analysis shows that the flotation product phase composition is consistent with the single mineral. The quartz content in the 2nd froth product reaches 95.88 % (78.86 % recovery). The mica content in the sink product reaches 71.19 % (91.09 % recovery). Adsorption test analysis indicates that PEA and DDA are mainly adsorbed on minerals by electrostatic adsorption through the ─NH 3 + group. DFT calculations show that the difference in PEA adsorption energy between the quartz and the mica surfaces is 1.52 eV (DDA is only 0.2 eV). Based on the above results we analyzed the adsorption and separation mechanisms. The findings establish PEA as a sustainable alternative to conventional pH-dependent collectors, eliminating acid/alkali consumption while maintaining high separation efficiency.

Solvation sheath rearrangement is recognized as a key strategy for modifying electrolytes to enhance the kinetics of magnesium batteries. However, its fundamental mechanism diverges significantly from that in Li-ion batteries and remains inadequately understood. Herein, we elucidate the principle that solvation tuning essentially determines the distribution of reductive electrons, whose accumulation on ether molecules directly leads to challenging reorganization and severe solvent decomposition. To address this, a series of organic monoamine salts are designed as additives to capture and stabilize the reductive electrons in the solvation sheath, and screening guidelines are proposed to promote the kinetics and reversibility of Mg plating/stripping. Accordingly, we demonstrate an Mg pouch cell with ultrahigh power density (50C, 13 mA cm−2, 16.02 kW kg−1 based on the cathode), surpassing the power densities reported in all previous studies. This work offers new insights into solvation tuning strategies that are crucial in designing high-power-density Mg batteries.

Background The efficient separation of smithsonite from quartz remains a key bottleneck in the valorization of oxidized zinc ores. Conventional sulfidization flotation suffers from high reagent consumption, complex procedures, and elevated costs, highlighting the urgent need for novel processes and selective collectors for effective desilication and purification. Methods Microflotation experiments, zeta potential measurements, surface wettability analyses, FTIR, XPS, AFM, and ToF-SIMS were employed to investigate the flotation selectivity and interfacial interaction mechanisms of N-hexadecyl-N-methylpiperidinium bromide (HMPB) in the reverse flotation desilication of smithsonite. Findings Outstanding separation performance was achieved at pH 7.0 with an HMPB dosage of 7.5 mg/L, yielding a zinc concentrate grade of 47.01% and a recovery of 93.69%. The ζ-potential, wettability, FTIR, and XPS analyses confirmed that HMPB selectively interact with oxygen sites on quartz via synergistic electrostatic and hydrogen-bonding interactions, significantly increasing surface potential, hydrophobicity, and adhesion work, while showing negligible influence on smithsonite. Furthermore, AFM and ToF-SIMS analyses revealed the formation of a continuous HMPB adsorption layer exclusively on the quartz surface, where the distribution of organic fragments strongly correlates with Si rather than Zn, confirming the pronounced selectivity of HMPB for quartz and its effectiveness in sustainable desilication and purification.

Upcycling e-waste to enable efficient catalyst synthesis offers a sustainable pathway for solid waste management and the advancement of green catalysis. However, reconciling high catalytic performance with e-waste-derived materials remains challenging. Here, we report a low-cost, defect-engineered InOOH electrocatalyst derived from electronic waste (ew-InOOH/Vo-Sn), which is modulated through Sn incorporation and oxygen vacancy (Vo) engineering using In-dodecylamine (In-DDA) complexes derived from spent liquid crystal display panels (s-LCD), for the electrochemical CO 2 reduction reaction (eCO 2 RR). The material was rationally synthesized through theory-guided optimization of InOOH via Sn-incorporation and vacancy engineering, combined with the utilization of In-DDA complexes obtained from s-LCD leachates using a thiol-assisted wet-chemical strategy. At −0.97 V vs RHE, the ew-InOOH/Vo-Sn delivered a high formate Faradaic efficiency (FE formate ) of 92.8%, closely approaching that of the corresponding sample prepared from pure metal-salt precursors (ms-InOOH/Vo-Sn, 94.5%) under identical synthetic conditions, and comparable to the majority of In-based eCO 2 RR catalysts reported in the literature. Mechanistic insights reveal that Sn-incorporation stabilizes Vo in InOOH and synergistically alters the electronic states of neighboring In atoms, which strengthens CO 2 adsorption while optimizing the adsorption energetics of *OCHO and H* intermediates. Our findings demonstrate a sustainable pathway to design In-based electrocatalysts from electronic-waste, integrating resource recycling with energy conversion.

Postoperative re-tear remains a prevalent challenge in rotator cuff repair. To address this, we developed a bioactive glass composite rotator cuff patch (BCP) with heterogeneous structural design to promote tendon−bone interface regeneration. The BCP features an outer barrier of hydrophobic poly (lactic acid) (PLA) electrospun membrane, which prevents infiltration of inflammatory fibrotic tissue. The inner structure, fabricated via a dual-nozzle 3D printing strategy, comprises gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) hydrogel layers differentially loaded with zinc-doped (ZnBG) or strontium-doped (SrBG) bioactive glass, targeting the tendon and bone regions, respectively. Bioactive glass enables sustained ion release within the physiological environment, establishing distinct ionic microenvironments across the tissue interface. In vitro , ZnBG-released ions significantly promoted the proliferation and migration of tendon-derived stem cells, upregulated mature tendon matrix expression, and inhibited fibrotic scarring. Conversely, SrBG-released ions enhanced the osteogenic differentiation and mineralization potential of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. In vivo evaluation further demonstrated that the BCP effectively facilitated organized collagen regeneration and improved the quality of its integration with bone. Additionally, the BCP favorably modulated the local immune microenvironment toward a reparative phenotype. In summary, this study presents an innovative biomaterial strategy for achieving comprehensive structural and functional regeneration of the tendon−bone interface following rotator cuff injury.

Biobased fibers have gradually gained attention with the development of fiber industry due to the characteristics of renewability and environmentally friendliness. For polyureas derived from urea and biobased diamine, the excellent properties such as high strength, high toughness, and rapid crystallization, offer them great potential in the construction and application of fiber materials. It is in this work aiming at constructing high-performance polyurea fibers, taking the problems of poor pulverizability and high melt viscosity into account. A three-step process, including prepolymerization, reactive extrusion, and drawing, was proposed and accomplished to conduct fiber formation for the polyurea. Prepolymerization was carried out via melting polycondensation from urea and 1,10-diaminodecane. The oligomer obtained was then able to be crushed into particles for extrusion. The reactive extrusion in which chain extension took place was conducive to increasing the molecular weight ( M n = 23.2 kg/mol). The obtained fiber was then further drawn at 160°C to increase the crystallinity and as a result, to increase the strength. A reorganization of crystal structure for the drawn yarn can be observed and improved crystallinity was detected. The tensile strength is found to be increased from 45 to 600 MPa after drawing, while the modulus is found to be from 1.1 to 5.9 GPa. It is concluded that the difficulties in the processing and formation of polyurea fiber have been solved in this study. Such technique developed here expands the application fields of polyurea materials and provides a new option for the development of high-performance biobased fibers.

Background In mixed anionic-cationic collector systems, sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) is commonly required as a depressant to realize the flotation separation of lepidolite from albite and quartz. However, its effect mechanism to the flotation performance of anionic-cationic collector is unclear. Methods Micro-flotation, contact angle, Zeta potential, adsorption capacity, optical microscopy, FTIR, in-situ AFM imaging and AFM force measurements were employed to investigate the flotation performance and the adsorption mechanism of SHMP and dodecylamine (DDA) + sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) on lepidolite, albite and quartz. Significant Findings With 5.0×10 −5 mol/L SHMP pre-addition, DDA+SLS achieved 90.01% Li 2 O recovery with 4.04% Li 2 O grade from an artificial ternary mixture of 1.83% Li 2 O at pH∼7.0, DDA: SLS molar ratio = 2: 1 and C DDA +C SLS =1.5×10 −4 mol/L. SHMP adsorbed on albite and quartz by the hydrogen bonds between P-OH/P-O − groups of SHMP and Si-O − /Si-OH and Al-O − /Al-OH sites on albite as well as Si-O − /Si-OH sites on quartz. With SHMP+DDA+SLS addition, SHMP-DDA and SLS-DDA complexes formed and adsorbed onto lepidolite basal planes through the hydrophobic interactions, whereas no adsorption occurred on albite and quartz due to the absent hydrophobic interactions. This differential adsorption generated the distinct surface wettability, enabling the selective lepidolite recovery.

Micro‐ and nanomotors (MNMs) promise impact in the areas of environmental remediation and biomedicine, but reliable three‐dimensional (3D) control remains challenging. Conventional bubble‐propelled MNMs can move in 3D, yet their trajectories are stochastic and energy‐inefficient. Here we introduce a buoyancy‐regulated strategy inspired by cyanobacteria‐like microvesicles. We engineer sodium‐alginate (SA)hydrogel magnetic micromotors (SA/Cu‐TiO 2 /Fe 3 O 4 ), in which Cu‐TiO 2 is derived from the Ti‐based metal–organic framework MIL‐125(Ti v ), yielding a porous and defect‐rich photocatalyst with uniformly distributed Cu sites for enhanced H 2 O 2 decomposition and photocatalytic activity compared with pristine TiO 2 . Upon illumination, Cu‐TiO 2 catalyzes H 2 O 2 decomposition to generate O 2 pockets that are retained within the elastic, semipermeable alginate matrix, enabling programmable flotation and precise control of vertical ( Z ‐axis) position as part of full 3D navigation. We analyze the energetics and cross‐scale mass‐transport mechanisms governing this buoyancy control, and we demonstrate guided 3D motion through a maze via magnetic steering. In model turbid water, the micromotors achieve high removal performance across diverse organic contaminants. This bioinspired platform provides a prototype and motion‐control paradigm for 3D‐motile MNMs, advancing practical remediation in aquatic environments. In this work, cyanobacteria‐inspired sodium alginate (SA)/Cu‐TiO 2 /Fe 3 O 4 hydrogel micromotors generate and encapsulate O 2 microvesicles upon light irradiation, enabling buoyancy‐mediated Z ‐axis upward migration and surface enrichment at the light‐exposed water‐air surface. The synergistic combination of intensified light harvesting, efficient transmembrane pollutant diffusion, and concurrent photocatalytic/Fenton‐like reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation endows the micromotors with outstanding degradation capacity toward various organic pollutants, paving a feasible pathway for practical remediation of turbid, complicated wastewater systems.

Adeno-associated virus (AAV) has been extensively employed in gene therapy owing to its outstanding safety profile and low immunogenicity. AAV vector-mediated gene therapy necessitates repeated administrations to achieve prolonged therapeutic efficacy. However, clinical trials have demonstrated that subsequent to the initial administration of AAV, the host mounts an immune response against the vectors, thereby hindering the clinical feasibility of repeated AAV administration. Moreover, when the AAV dosage exceeds 1.0 × 10 13 vg/kg, there is a significant risk of excessive activation of the complement system, which can result in severe adverse reactions. Notably, research indicates that merely depleting IgG antibodies does not enable high-dose re-administration of AAV or alleviate excessive complement activation; IgM antibodies also play a pivotal role in both the immune response against AAV and complement system activation. In this study, we synthesized a series of rapamycin lipid prodrugs utilizing succinic anhydride as a chemical linker and co-assembled them with dexamethasone palmitate to produce co-assembled nanoparticles ranging from 100 to 180 nm in size. These co-assembled nanoparticles are capable of inducing regulatory T cell (Treg) generation while inhibiting T follicular helper (Tfh) cell formation, thus reducing germinal center B (GC B) cell production and consequently suppressing anti-AAV IgG and IgM antibody responses along with complement system activation. The findings suggest that these rapamycin lipid prodrug co-assembled nanoparticles facilitate high-dose re-administration of AAV while enhancing gene expression delivered by the vector.

Cartilage repair remains challenging due to limited self-healing, poor biocompatibility, and insufficient mechanical properties of current materials. To overcome these issues, we developed a multifunctional composite hydrogel by integrating gelatine methacrylate (GelMA) with magnesium-doped bioactive glass (Mg-BG) and icariin (ICA). SEM analysis revealed that pure GelMA exhibited a highly porous yet loosely organized structure, whereas the addition of Mg-BG and ICA produced a denser, more interconnected porous network that enhances cell adhesion and nutrient diffusion. In vitro, the ICA/Mg-BG/GelMA hydrogel achieved a swelling ratio up to 430% and maintained cell viability above 80% over 5 days. Moreover, qRT-PCR and immunohistochemical analyses demonstrated that the composite hydrogel upregulated chondrogenic markers (SOX9, ACAN, and COL2A1) compared with GelMA alone. Specifically, it downregulates M1 pro-inflammatory markers (CCR7, iNOS, CD86) and upregulates M2 anti-inflammatory markers (ARG1, CD163, CD206), thereby creating a regenerative microenvironment. These results indicate that the synergistic combination of GelMA, Mg-BG, and ICA not only improves the scaffold’s mechanical support but also enhances its biological functionality, offering a promising strategy for cartilage repair. Future studies will focus on in vivo validation to further assess its clinical potential.
