APTES/cGO coupling increased the PVDF β-phase fraction to 80%. • The tailored support yielded a smooth PA layer only ~40.9 nm thick. • Permeance reached 15.5 L m⁻² h⁻¹ bar⁻¹ with 98.6% Na₂SO₄ rejection. • NaCl rejection reached 60.5%, and flux recovery reached 90.2%. • Hydration dominated fouling resistance; polarization may assist cleaning. To transcend the long-standing trade-off between permeability, selectivity, and antifouling performance in nanofiltration membranes, we proposed a crystallization-guided interfacial coupling strategy employing 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) to construct a covalently integrated interface between carboxylated graphene oxide (cGO) and β-phase polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) for a PIP/TMC-based polyamide selective layer. This dual-function modification induced the directional crystallization of the electroactive β-phase while chemically anchoring cGO within the polymer matrix, thereby reinforcing structural integrity and enabling precise control over ion transport pathways. The resulting APTES-coupled cGO–PVDF membrane achieved a high rejection of 98% for Na₂SO₄ and 60% for NaCl, with a water permeance of 15.5 L·m⁻²·h⁻¹ ·bar⁻¹ under 5 bar operation. After simple water rinsing, the membrane recovered 90.2% of its initial flux. Molecular simulations and experimental evidences revealed that interfacial charge redistribution facilitated by APTES could enhance Donnan exclusion and ion sieving, while the synergistic interplay between the piezoelectric β-phase and localized cation polarization dynamically could suppress fouling. Together, these features defined a unified charge–structure–response paradigm that underpinned a new class of high-performance nanofiltration membranes with self-adaptive, multifunctional separation capabilities. In this study, we demonstrate a facile strategy (DL–SF) for developing MSN-based nanosystems through drug loading (DL, using doxorubicin as a model drug) followed by surface functionalization (SF) of mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) via aqueous (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES) silylation. For comparison, a reverse functionalization process (i.e., SF–DL) was also studied. The pre-DL process allows for an efficient encapsulation (encapsulation efficiency of ∼75%) of an anticancer drug [doxorubicin (DOX)] inside MSNs, and post-SF allows in situ formation of an APTES outer layer to restrict DOX leakage under physiological conditions. This method makes it possible to tune the DOX release rate by increasing the APTES decoration density through variation of the APTES concentration. However, the SF–DL approach results in a rapid decrease in drug loading capacity with an increase in APTES concentration because of the formation of the APTES outer layer hampers the inner permeability of the DOX drug, resulting in a burst release similar to that of undecorated MSNs. The resulting DOX-loaded DL–SF MSNs present a slightly negatively charged surface under physiological conditions and become positively charged in and extracellular microenvironment of solid tumor due to the protonation effect under acidic conditions. These merits aid their maintenance of long-term stability in blood circulation, high cellular uptake by a kind of skin carcinoma cells, and an enhanced intracellular drug release behavior, showing their potential in the delivery of many drugs beyond anticancer chemotherapeutics.

High-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is an important cause of cervical cancer formation; therefore, being able to detect high-risk HPV (e.g., HPV-16) is important for the early treatment and prevention of cervical cancer. In this study, a combination of a 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) modified gold electrode and a super sandwich structure was creatively developed, resulting in the development of a biosensor that is both sensitive and stable for the detection of HPV-16. The electrochemical biosensor possesses a lower detection limit compared with previous studies with an LOD of 5.475 × 10−16mol/L and it possesses a wide linear range from 1.0 × 10−13mol/L to 1.0 × 10−6mol/L (R2= 0.9923) for the target DNA. The experimental data show that the sensor has good stability, and there is no significant decrease in the current response value after 7 days in the low-temperature environment. In addition, the sensor proved to be a powerful clinical tool for disease diagnosis because it showed good interference resistance in complex human serum samples. Keywords:cervical cancer;electrochemical detection;3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane;super sandwich structure

Oily wastewater poses a significant environmental concern as it has adverse effects on both ecosystems and human health. The development of highly efficient and robust antifouling membranes for oily emulsion is in great demand to prevent these serious issues in oil/water emulsion filtration. Moreover, fouling was inevitable when dealing with membrane separation . In order to overcome the addressed matters, this paper reported sprayed hydrophilic surface coating using commercialized levodopa ( L -DOPA). The coated solution was mixed with 3-amino-propyltriethoxysilane in various ratios to obtain a smooth coated layer. Based on the results, the highest pure water flux and rejection efficiency of 586.51 ± 23.95 L/m 2 ‧h and 98.22% was achieved in this study, respectively. The abundant hydroxyl and carboxyl functional groups on the membrane surface from L -DOPA benefit the membrane in many ways, especially the membrane wetting properties. The water and oil contact angles of the coated membrane increased by approximately 75% and 85%, respectively. The fouling behaviors are influenced by the presence of the coated layer, resulting in the attainment of 90% fouling resistance ratio (FRR). This is mostly due to the reduction in adherence of oil droplets on the membrane surface, hence enhancing the effectiveness of the anti-oil fouling membrane . Additionally, this provides excellent properties of the membrane to be applied in oily wastewater treatment .

Thin, phase-pure and well inter-grown zeolite FAU membranes are synthesized upon modifying the tubular supports using 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES). The as-synthesized zeolite FAU membranes are evaluated in the dewatering of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) by pervaporation . Due to the large pore size (0.74 nm) and high hydrophilicity of zeolite FAU, the prepared zeolite FAU membranes exhibit high water flux and separation performance for the separation of H 2 O and DMC. With increasing the temperature or water content in the feed, the zeolite FAU membranes show higher flux while maintaining high separation factors. Further, for dewatering of 10 wt% H 2 O/90 wt% DMC mixtures at 353 K in a lab device, the DMC concentration in the feed side reaches 99% after continuously dewatering over 9 h. Besides, the zeolite FAU membranes are also successfully prepared on commercial tubular size of 80 cm and 100 cm long α-Al 2 O 3 tubes. The obtained membranes show high separation performance for the dewatering of DMC solution as well. The high-performance zeolite FAU membrane offers great potential for dewatering of DMC solutions in industry.

Owing to the evolution of 5G technology, new energy vehicles, flexible electronics, miniaturization and integration of microelectronic devices, high-frequency and high-power devices, and thermal management of materials must consider additional limitations such as electrical insulation, excellent transverse heat transfer, flexibility, and weight. Boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs) are ideal insulating materials with high thermal conductivity. However, the problem of the 3D thermal conductivity pathway and toughness strength of nanocomposite paper loaded with inorganic thermal conductivity fillers remains a huge challenge. In this study, we propose a new method for preparing ultrathin, large, and uniformly thick BNNS for quantitative production. Bulk hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) layers were exfoliated using a simple and low-cost hydrothermal reaction, and large-scale fewer-layered BNNSs were efficiently prepared by ball milling with a high yield (up to 80%). Based on the aforementioned step, a flexible insulating composite film with high thermal conductivity and a natural “brick-mud” shell structure was constructed via the sol–gel-film conversion method. After prestretching and hot-pressing treatment, the hydrogels became denser, and the modified BNNS formed a three-dimensional (3D) network structure with an ordered orientation and interconnections in the bacterial cellulose (BC) matrix. After 100 folding cycles, the tensile strength of the nanofiber composite film reached 53 MPa, and the strength retention rate exceeded 42%. By optimizing the modified BNNS content, the thermal conductivity reached 24 W/(m·K). This simple approach has wide application potential in the next-generation electronic devices, providing options for designing thermal interface materials with excellent electrical insulation, high thermal stability, and flexibility.

Water pollution is one of the most critical environmental challenges threatening human health, largely due to the discharge of hazardous industrial effluents. Among them, pharmaceutical industries release highly toxic organic compounds such as phenols, which contribute significantly to environmental degradation. This study investigates the effect of surface functionalization of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on their adsorption properties toward phenol. The functionalization process was conducted through oxidation and silanization using nitric acid and 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES) as the coupling agent, respectively. The modified samples were characterized by FTIR, XRD, and TGA analyses, which confirmed the successful activation and functionalization of the MWCNT surface. Untreated MWCNTs, MWCNT–COOH, and MWCNT–APTES were employed as adsorbents for phenol removal from aqueous solutions. Activated carbon was also examined for comparison. The adsorption results revealed that untreated MWCNTs exhibited negligible adsorption capacity, whereas nitric acid oxidation significantly enhanced the adsorption efficiency of MWCNT–COOH up to 17%. Notably, the APTES-grafted MWCNTs demonstrated the highest adsorption performance, achieving a maximum adsorption capacity of 55.17%. These findings indicate that MWCNT–APTES possesses superior adsorption efficiency for phenol compared to activated carbon, highlighting its potential as a promising adsorbent for wastewater treatment applications.

Inspired by the strong adhesion properties of mussel byssus protein, this paper presents the construction of a multi-scale TA-APTES-GO interfacial layer aimed at addressing the inadequate interfacial properties of CF/PPESK composites. XPS, Raman spectroscopy, and SEM confirmed that this novel interfacial layer can enhance the activity and roughness of the CF surface, thereby promoting resin infiltration. Furthermore, this interfacial layer exhibits a modulus transition that eliminates the modulus discrepancy between CF and resin matrix, and mitigates stress concentration. Mechanical property tests demonstrated that the incorporation of the TA-APTES-GO interfacial layer increased the ILSS of the composites by 51% and the bending strength by 22%. Additionally, the failure behavior and interfacial strengthening mechanisms of the composites were investigated in detail. The interfacial layer is straightforward to prepare and significantly enhances interfacial properties, offering a promising approach to elevating the interfacial characteristics of CFRTPs. Highlights Based on mussel byssus protein bionics, a TA-APTES-GO multi-scale interface layer was designed and synthesized. TA-APTES-GO significantly enhanced interfacial binding of CF/PPESK. TA-APTES-GO effectively balances the modulus discrepancy between CF and the resin matrix.

Membrane fouling significantly impairs separation performance and durability. To address this, a bioinspired intermediate layer of dopamine methacrylamide (DMA) and (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES) was developed to enhance the grafting of poly(2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine) (PMPC) onto polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes via surface-initiated polymerization. The incorporation of this intermediate layer enabled complete surface wetting of the zwitterionic monomer MPC, increasing the availability of reactive sites and yielding a grafting ratio of 183.4 μg/cm 2 , compared to 10.3 μg/cm 2 for unmodified PVDF surfaces. Furthermore, the DMA/APTES layer may undergo cross-linking through the addition of Fe 3+ , leading to an increase in the chemical stability of the coating when exposed to extreme pH conditions. The PMPC-modified membrane (PVDF-DMA-APTES-Fe-PMPC) exhibited marked superhydrophilicity, with a static water contact angle of 16.0° that rapidly dropped to 0° within 10 s. This hydrophilic transformation significantly reduced protein adsorption, lowering bovine serum albumin (BSA) accumulation to 19.3 μg/cm 2 , in contrast to 197.5 μg/cm 2 observed on pristine PVDF. Antibacterial assays further revealed a 1.6 log 10 reduction in Escherichia coli after 12 h of incubation, indicating effective resistance to bacterial adhesion. In filtration performance, the modified membrane maintained a high pure water flux of 336.3 LMH in the first cycle, coupled with excellent antifouling durability. This study showcases a versatile approach for modifying hydrophobic polymeric membranes, highlighting their possible applications in purifying protein−wasted water.

This work reports the development of a simple and cost-effective electrochemical sensor based on electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ErGO) bound to the surface of indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode through 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) monolayer (ITO/APTES/ErGO) for selective and sensitive detection of tyramine . The features of the modified electrode were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and electrochemical impedance (EIS) methods. The analytical performance of the developed sensor was evaluated with respect to linear detection range, limit of detection, stability, coexistence interference and reproducibility. The modified device exhibited electrocatalytic activity toward tyramine oxidation within two linear concentration range of 1–100 nM, and 1–100 µM, with LOD of 0.1 nM. Finally, the sensor successfully detected tyramine in commercially available real samples with satisfactory recovery ranges. The proposed modified sensor offers distinct advantages including low cost, simple handling, good sensitivity and high selectivity.

Polyurea coating offers robust protection against weathering and corrosion, yet the limited wear resistance remains a bottleneck for long-term service in marine environments. In this study, a high-performance polyurea coating incorporating APTES-modified Al 2 O 3 nanoparticles was developed on Q235 steel. The surface-grafted amino groups not only improve the compatibility between Al 2 O 3 nanoparticles and polymer matrix but also facilitate the establishment of strong interfacial bonds within the polyurea network, thereby significantly bolstering the coating's mechanical properties and environmental durability. Compared to pure polyurea, the composite coating achieves a 41.1% lower mass loss under a 1000 g load and 2000 wear cycles, demonstrating reliable wear resistance. Moreover, the nanoparticles enhance the structural compactness of the coating and increase the tortuosity of the diffusion pathways for corrosive mediums, leading to a remarkable enhancement in corrosion protection. After immersion in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution for 120 days, the low-frequency impedance modulus (| Z | f =0.01Hz ) of the composite polyurea coating remains above 10 11 Ω·cm 2 . Meanwhile, the composite polyurea coating exhibits superior resistance to UV aging. These findings demonstrate the great potential of this nano-alumina-reinforced polyurea composite for application in high-performance protective coatings.

Plastic pollution and the treatment of oily wastewater have become significant challenges in the field of environmental protection. This study presents a method for fabricating electrospun membranes from waste polyethylene terephthalate (PET) beverage bottles, which are surface-modified by co -depositing tea polyphenols (TP), 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES), and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS). The resulting superhydrophilic membrane, denoted as PET-T-100, exhibits excellent mechanical properties and structural stability due to the optimization of precursor solution composition and electrospinning parameters. The modified membrane shows a water contact angle of 0° in air and an underwater oil contact angle of 161°, demonstrating outstanding wettability. In oil-water separation experiments, PET-T-100 achieves a separation efficiency of over 99.5 % for various oil-water mixtures, and over 98 % for emulsions, maintaining stable wettability and separation performance even in harsh acidic, alkaline, and saline environments. This study provides an efficient and environmentally friendly approach for the high-value utilization of waste PET and offers a novel strategy for the development of high-performance oil-water separation membranes and environmental remediation technologies.
