Designing the coordination environment of heteroatoms around metal sites and optimizing the electronic structure of diatomic metal sites remain significant challenges in achieving efficient CO 2 overall splitting. Herein, we report four configurations (Cu/Ni–N 4 C 2 , Cu/Ni–N 2 C 4 , Cu/Ni–N 2 C 3 and Cu/Ni–N 2 C 2 ) constructed by precise regulation of the coordination environment around bimetallic atoms. Cu/Ni–N 2 C 2 showed high performance in electrochemical CO 2 reduction (ECR) and water oxidation evolution reaction (OER). In the electrochemical CO 2 overall splitting reaction, it achieved a Faraday efficiency of CO (FE CO ) of 98.0% at a low cell voltage of −2.9 V, significantly higher than widely reported values. Moreover, the FE CO is above 90% over −2.7 to −4.1 V of cell voltages. Cu/Ni–N 2 C 2 achieved long-term ECR stability of 110 h at −100 mA cm −2 . Mechanism studies revealed that the change of coordination environment around the diatomic pairs moves the d-band center of the Ni atom closer to the Fermi level, thereby modulating the adsorption capacity of the catalysts to the reaction intermediates *COOH and *O. This work presents valuable insights into the rational design of diatomic catalysts and elucidates the intricate structure-performance relationship in advancing electrochemical CO 2 overall splitting technology and energy-conversion applications.

We have prepared a highly active and stable copper-doped nickel electrocatalyst. Cu/Ni-doped MFI-type protozeolite layered nanoclusters electrodes have a large electrochemically active surface area (ECSA) and good HER activity, as well as excellent durability. The addition of Cu greatly increases hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity under acidic conditions. At the same time, the in situ grown Cu2+1O provides some activity, and in addition, the interface constructed between Cu and Ni further generates sufficient electrochemically active surface area. The activated Cu/Ni-doped MFI-type layered nanoclusters required only a 385 mV overpotential to generate 10 mA cm−2, demonstrating efficient and stable activity with potential practical applications.

The simultaneous stabilization of Cu, Ni, Pb, and As in sustainable environmental development remains a significant challenge in heavy metal remediation. In this paper, liquid phase equilibrium experiments have evaluated the immobilization efficiency of 20 potential stabilization materials. Soil stabilization experiments, material characterization, and long-term effectiveness assessments have been performed to investigate the efficient composite stabilization agent and its underlying mechanisms. Results demonstrate that seven materials, including calcium oxide (CaO) and hydroxyapatite (HAP), exhibit multi-metal immobilization capabilities. Among single-material stabilization in soil, HAP for Pb, zero-valent iron (ZVI) for As, and blast furnace slag (BFS) for Cu exhibit prominent stabilization efficiency, yet they cannot efficiently stabilize the four heavy metals simultaneously. Subsequently, the ZVI:BFS:CaO composite agent (6:3:1 mass ratio, 10% addition rate) has been proposed by formulation optimization, achieving remarkable stabilization rates: 99.92% for Cu, 96.16% for Ni, 92.06% for Pb, and 99.58% for As. XRD, XPS, and SEM-EDS analyses confirm that the stabilization occurs through synergistic mechanisms including precipitation, complexation, and lattice encapsulation. The composite stabilizing agent withstood 15 wet–dry and 150 freeze–thaw cycles, with four types of heavy metals stabilization rates > 60%, confirming its long-term effectiveness.

Superhydrophobic coatings have emerged as a promising solution for enhancing the durability and longevity of metallic materials in various industrial applications, especially in the field of metal anti-corrosion. However, previous coatings were complicated to prepare and exhibited limited corrosion resistance performance. In this study, we developed a corrosion-resistant and superhydrophobic coating with comprehensive protective capabilities using an environmentally benign and highly efficient two-step electrodeposition approach. This coating can be deposited on contoured surfaces for the corrosion protection of metallic substances. In the first electrodeposition step, sodium citrate was employed to promote the combination of copper and nickel, forming a rough copper‑nickel coating. In the second step, a cerium stearate coating was fabricated and modified. The morphology, structure, and corrosion resistance of the coating were comprehensively characterized. The results showed that the static contact angle of water on the coating could reach up to 155° at most, and the corrosion current density could be as low as 2.51 × 10 −10 A/cm 2 , enabling 1500 h immersion resistance in 10 wt% NaCl solution. Moreover, the coating's outstanding comprehensive performance enables it to withstand various harsh natural environments. This study provides a new theoretical support for the corrosion protection of metals under adverse natural conditions.

Electrocatalytic 5-hydroxymethylfurfural oxidation (HMFOR) is a sustainable route for biomass valorization to 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA), yet balancing the competitive adsorption of HMF and OH− at the electrode−electrolyte interface is pivotal for boosting catalytic activity and selectivity. Herein, we report a terephthalic acid (PTA) modification strategy to tailor Cu-Ni(OH)2 with tunable metal valence and controllable surface charge, fabricating positively charged Cu-Ni(OH)2 and negatively charged Cu-Ni(OH)2-PTA. PTA functionalization elevates the Ni oxidation state and reinforces HMF adsorption on the catalyst surface. In situ surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy confirm that the negatively charged surface of Cu-Ni(OH)2-PTA efficiently mitigates the steric hindrance of hydrated ions and preserves a fully hydrated Cs+ interfacial microenvironment. This synergy optimizes the adsorption equilibrium of HMF and OH− via efficient and persistent HMF capture, enabling continuous enhancement of HMFOR activity. Consequently, Cu-Ni(OH)2-PTA delivers superior HMFOR performance in CsOH electrolyte, including a high FDCA Faradaic efficiency (98.2%), large current density, excellent cycling stability over 10 cycles, and stable operation for 120 h in a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) system. Notably, a high FDCA Faradaic efficiency of ∼86% is retained even in a pH 13 electrolyte with 1 M Cs+. This work elucidates the coupled effects of metal valence, surface charge, cation hydration, and interfacial water structure on HMFOR, providing a universal interfacial engineering principle for designing advanced electrocatalysts for efficient biomass electrooxidation.

This study developed a green and efficient surface protection method for Cu–Ni alloys. A zinc dibenzyl dithiocarbamate film was prepared on the surface of electrodeposited Cu–Ni alloys using the self-assembly method to improve the material's corrosion resistance in seawater. The influence of zinc dibenzyl dithiocarbamate concentration and self-assembly time on the corrosion resistance of the self-assembled films was investigated through electrochemical testing. The findings revealed that at a zinc dibenzyl dithiocarbamate concentration of 10 mmol/L and a self-assembly time of 20 min, the self-assembled film exhibited the most robust corrosion resistance, achieving a maximum corrosion inhibition efficiency of 97.70%. The self-assembly and adsorption mechanism of zinc dibenzyl dithiocarbamate were explored using molecular dynamics simulations and adsorption isotherms. The protective effect of self-assembled films was visually observed through salt spray testing. Zinc dibenzyl dithiocarbamate self-assembled film technology has high application prospects in the field of marine anti-corrosion.

This study employs a Cu–Ni co–doping strategy to construct a Bi 2 MoO 6 photothermal synergistic catalyst, achieving highly efficient conversion of CO 2 reduction. Under ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) xenon lamp irradiation and 200 °C external heating conditions, the optimal sample (3Cu-6Ni-Bi 2 MoO 6 ) exhibited CO and CH 4 yields of 293.16 μmol·g −1 and 98.43 μmol·g −1 respectively, within 4 h, representing 6.8-fold and 5.3-fold increases compared to the undoped sample. The significant enhancement in CO 2 conversion activity can be attributed to the following factors: (1) Co-doping with Cu 2+ and Ni 2+ induces lattice distortion and oxygen vacancy formation, generating defect energy levels near the valence band edge. This reduces the bandgap to 2.1 eV, thereby broadening the visible light absorption range; (2) Oxygen vacancy defects provide highly efficient CO 2 adsorption and activation sites; (3) Doping with Cu and Ni enhances the separation and transport efficiency of photogenerated carriers.

The residual antibiotics in the environment will pose a threat to the environment and human health. Thus, it is imperative to develop a smart water treatment material to remove and detect antibiotics from aqueous environment simultaneously. In this study, magnetic Cu–Ni–S@Ni foam was synthesized by liquid phase vulcanization method to in-situ load Cu–Ni–S nanostructures on the surface of Ni foam. The novelty of this material is the combination of adsorption-flocculation technology and semi-quantitative detection technology. Batch experiments showed that Cu–Ni–S@Ni foam has a high removal rate of norfloxacin (NOR) (96.92%), wide pH adaptability (pH = 4.0–10.0) and strong ion interference resistance (0.1–100 mmol/L). According to the Langmuir isotherm , the removal capacity can reach 417.4 mg/g at 25 °C, which is much higher than that of other water treatment agents reported in most studies. Characterization analysis indicated that the main removal mechanisms are surface complexation, cation bridging, electrostatic attraction , precipitation and flocculation . Transmission FTIR detection experiments showed that NOR on Cu–Ni–S@Ni foam has easily recognizable FTIR fingerprints; the intensity of characteristic peaks roughly reflects the concentration information of NOR to some extent. This semi-quantitative detection method, requiring simple operation without the fabrication of KBr tablet, has a wide linear range (5–100 mg/L) and a low limit of detection (4.6 mg/L). Therefore, Cu–Ni–S@Ni foam can be used for simultaneous removal and semi-quantitative detection of NOR in wastewater. It has potential application value in wastewater treatment and water quality monitoring.

Ethylene is an important chemical raw material and with the increasing consumption of petroleum resources, the production of ethylene through the calcium carbide acetylene route has important research significance. In this work, a series of bimetallic catalysts with different Cu/Ni molar ratios are prepared by co-impregnation method for the hydrogenation of calcium carbide acetylene to ethylene. The introduction of an appropriate amount of Cu effectively inhibits not only the formation of ethane and green oil, thus increasing the selectivity of ethylene, but also the formation of carbon deposits, which improves the stability of the catalyst. The ethylene selectivity of the Ni–Cu bimetallic catalyst increases from 45% to 63% compared with the Ni monometallic counterpart and the acetylene conversion still can reach 100% at the optimal conditions of 250 °C, 8000 mL·g−1·h−1and V(H2)/V(C2H2) = 3. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy confirmed that the metal particles were highly dispersed on the support, High-resolution transmission electron microscopy and H2-Temperature programmed reduction proved that there was an interaction between Ni and Cu, combined with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations results, Cu transferred electrons to Ni changed the Ni electron cloud density in NiCuxcatalysts, thus reducing the adsorption of acetylene and ethylene, which is favorable to ethylene selectivity. Keywords:Ni–Cu;calcium carbide acetylene;selective hydrogenation;ethylene

In this paper, the Cu-/Ni-based one-dimensional (1D) conductive metal-organic frameworks (c-MOFs) nanorods (Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 /Ni 3 (HHTP) 2 ) have been synthesized successfully through a one-pot hydrothermal method . The effect of reaction time, MOFs compositions and ratio of solvent on the performance of Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 -/Ni 3 (HHTP) 2 - based resistive temperature sensors was studied by sensing platforms. Compared with Ni 3 (HHTP) 2 -based sensor, Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 -based sensor, which was assembled under DMF volume of 0.5 mL and reaction time of 12 h (Cu7), provided the optimal performance, for example, relative variation of resistance (RVR) near-linearly decreased by 85.9% from 20 °C to 80 °C, and the temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) reached up −0.0157 °C -1 . Moreover, the resistance value of the Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 -based sensor is 0.106 kΩ, which exhibited a minimum resistance under different temperatures. These results demonstrate that the use of Ni 3 (HHTP) 2 -based 1D c-MOFs for fabrication of temperature sensor provides good conductivity and high thermo-responsive sensitivity. Hence, this study provided an excellent example for the simple preparation and practical application of 1D c-MOFs-based near-linear temperature sensor.

As a major greenhouse gas, the rational conversion and utilization of CO 2 can help reduce carbon emissions and mitigate the greenhouse effect. In this study, mesoporous SiO 2 as a carrier, with CuO and NiO employed to construct a binary metal composite silica-based catalyst, coupled with dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma, for the conversion of CO 2 . Physicochemical analysis confirmed the successful introduction of CuO into the mesoporous SiO 2 . NiO and CuO bimetals were dispersed on SiO 2 surfaces with large specific surface areas, ensuring an optimal distribution of metal oxide. Gas chromatography was utilized to investigate the performance of DBD-coupled x%CuO-3 %NiO/Si for CO 2 conversion. The results indicated that the CuO-NiO binary composite silica catalysts significantly improved CO 2 conversion, CO yield, and energy efficiency compared to the monometallic 3 %NiO/Si materials. Further microstructural analysis of the 9 %CuO-3 %NiO/Si catalyst revealed near-elliptic particles with dimensions of 200 by 500 nm and a large number of irregular fine particles attached to the surface. When the CuO loading reached an optimal level and the input power was set at 30 W, the energy efficiency of the 9 %CuO-3 %NiO/Si catalyst increased by 119.6 %. The CuO-NiO binary composite Si-based catalyst developed in this study boasts simple operation and environmental friendliness, making it highly significant for CO 2 treatment.

In this study, the copper-nickel (Cu–Ni) bimetallic electrocatalysts for electrochemical CO 2 reduction reaction(CO 2 RR) are fabricated by taking the finely designed poly(ionic liquids) (PIL) containing abundant Salen and imidazolium chelating sites as the surficial layer, wherein Cu–Ni, PIL–Cu and PIL–Ni interaction can be readily regulated by different synthetic scheme. As a proof of concept, Cu@Salen-PIL@Ni(NO 3 ) 2 and Cu@Salen-PIL(Ni) hybrids differ significantly in the types and distribution of Ni species and Cu species at the surface, thereby delivering distinct Cu–Ni cooperation fashion for the CO 2 RR. Remarkably, Cu@Salen-PIL@Ni(NO 3 ) 2 provides a C2+ faradaic efficiency (FE C2+ ) of 80.9% with partial current density ( j C 2+ ) of 262.9 mA cm −2 at −0.80 V (versus reversible hydrogen electrode, RHE) in 1 m KOH in a flow cell, while Cu@Salen-PIL(Ni) delivers the optimal FE C2+ of 63.8% at j C2+ of 146.7 mA cm −2 at −0.78 V. Mechanistic studies indicates that the presence of Cu–Ni interfaces in Cu@Salen-PIL@Ni(NO 3 ) 2 accounts for the preserve of high-valence Cu(I) species under CO 2 RR conditions. It results in a high activity of both CO 2 -to-CO conversion and C–C coupling while inhibition of the competitive HER.
