Enzyme immobilization on solid supports enhances stability and reusability, yet nanoscale carriers such as metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) still face challenges in efficient recovery. While pyrolysis can magnetize Fe-MOFs, conventional methods often compromise either enzyme activity or structural integrity. This study presents a rational two-step oxidation–reduction (O–R) pyrolysis strategy to convert Meso-MIL-88A into a magnetically recyclable, mesoporous biocatalyst support (O-R500). Unlike one-step carbonization, which generates enzyme-incompatible Fe3O4, or carbonization-oxidation routes that collapse the framework, our approach first transforms the MOF into a robust α-Fe2O3 template while preserving its morphology. Citric acid then acts as a mild, slow-releasing reductant, selectively producing a γ-Fe2O3-rich phase without damaging the mesostructure. The resulting O-R500 exhibits well-defined mesopores (∼13 nm), sufficient magnetization (16 emu/g) for rapid separation, and a biocompatible surface that maintains the native conformation of immobilized Candida antarctica lipase B (CalB). In the synthesis of phosphatidyl EPA/DHA, CalB@O-R500 achieved 84.5% incorporation and retained 90.3% activity over five cycles, outperforming nonmagnetic counterparts. This work not only provides a high-performance magnetic biocatalyst but also establishes a generalizable design principle for converting Fe-MOFs into structured, biocompatible, and functionally integrated carriers.

Construction of heterocompositional hybrid metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) by integration of more than two MOFs is a smart strategy for fine-tuning MOF properties. In this work, a novel yolk-shell MIL-88A@NiFe-PB heterostructure, in which MIL stands for Materials from Institute Lavoisier, and PB represents the coordination network of Prussian Blue, was fabricated through a fast wrapping and then inward-etching growth synthetic strategy under mild stirring condition. The thickness of the outmost layer of NiFe-PB and the internal core structure of MIL-88A can be controlled by tuning the concentration of K 4 [Fe(CN) 6 ]·3H 2 O in the assembly system. A rational growth mechanism for the yolk-shell MIL-88A@NiFe-PB heterostructure was proposed. The as-prepared yolk-shell MIL-88A@Ni 10 Fe PB-50 architectures were then explored for non-enzymatic glucose sensing. The results show that the designed glucose sensor exhibits a high sensitivity of 1963.2 μA mM −1 cm −2 over a wide linear range of 0.005–1.0 mM, a low detection limit (0.12 μM), as well as a fast reaction time (<2 s) and long-term stability for non-enzymatic glucose detection. Also, it shows good applicability in real serum samples. This work provides a “wrapping-inward-etching” synthetic strategy for construction of hybrid MOFs with exceptional outstanding non-enzymatic glucose sensing performance, providing a reasonable guide for construction of other MOF on MOF intriguing structures for electrochemical sensing applications.

Hierarchical MIL-88A(Fe)@ZnIn 2 S 4 heterostructures were synthesized via a facile low-temperature solvothermal method. The combination of MIL-88A(Fe) and ZnIn 2 S 4 produced excellent photocatalytic properties under sunlight irradiation. The enhanced separation efficiency of the photogenerated charge carriers facilitated the optimal photocatalytic performances of 12.5%-HMIL@ZIS, with 100% the of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) and 99.6% of the sulfamethoxazole being converted within 9 min and 60 min at pH 5, respectively. The kinetic rate constants of Cr(VI) reduction (0.5864 min −1 ) and sulfamethoxazole (SMZ) degradation (0.0958 min −1 ) were approximately 15 and 5 times larger than those previously reported. The formation of ·O 2 − could promote the super-high conversion of Cr(VI). Meanwhile, the synergetic effect of 1 O 2 and ·O 2 − played a dominant role in the degradation of sulfamethoxazole. Furthermore, the satisfactory photocatalytic performances could be maintained after four cycles. This work provides new insights into the design of metal-organic framework based photocatalysts and indicates the great potential for efficient purification of actual wastewater.

In this study, we synthesized the MBSr (MIL-88A(Fe)/BiOBr/SrFe 12 O 19 ) dual Z-scheme heterojunction via an accessible hydrothermal method and investigated the photocatalytic performance of MBSr composites for Rhodamine B (RhB) and Methylene blue (MB). The MBSr-1% photocatalyst exhibited excellent photocatalytic performance, resulting the degradation rate of RhB reached approximately 96.2% within 60 min, which was higher than that of M88 (34%), BiOBr (89%) and M88/BiOBr-7% (93.7%) composites. And the MBSr-1% could eliminate 90.1% of MB within 90 min, which displayed the best photodegradation efficiency of prepared photocatalysts. The enhanced photocatalytic performance can be ascribed to the formation of dual Z-scheme heterojunction, which enhanced visible-light absorption and facilitated the transfer of photoinduced carriers. The MBSr-1% was proved to have excellent stability and reusability after six-recycling run. Furthermore, the major reactive species were h + , •O 2 − and •OH by radical trapping experiments. Finally, a possible photocatalytic pathway and mechanism of MBSr photocatalysts was proposed.

An effective Fenton-like Fe 3 O 4 /MIL-88A/BC catalyst was fabricated by combining magnetite nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 ) with diamond-shaped MIL-88A and Chenopodium -derived biochar for the degradation of 2-NP. The elemental composition, morphology, functional groups, surface net charge, and crystallographic phase of the Fe 3 O 4 /MIL-88A/BC catalyst were examined using various characterization techniques, including XPS, SEM, FTIR, ZP, and XRD. Optimization experiments were conducted to determine the optimal Fenton-like degradation conditions for 2-NP using H 2 O 2 /Fe 3 O 4 /MIL-88A/BC. Laboratory experiments showed that the 2-NP degradation efficiency by H 2 O 2 /Fe 3 O 4 /MIL-88A/BC reached 91.04% within 120 min at pH = 5, Fe 3 O 4 /MIL-88A/BC = 10 mg, and H 2 O 2 concentration = 500 mg L −1 . Kinetic studies indicated that the Fenton-like degradation of 2-NP followed a second-order model, while H 2 O 2 decomposition was best described by a first-order model. Quenching tests indicated that the Fenton-like reaction of 2-NP proceeded via a radical mechanism and confirmed that the ˙OH radicals are the controlling reactive O-species. The degradation mechanism of 2-NP was proposed based on the XPS spectra of the neat and used Fe 3 O 4 /MIL-88A/BC catalysts. The intermediates obtained from the Fenton-like degradation of 2-NP by the Fe 3 O 4 /MIL-88A/BC catalyst were predicted from the GC-MS spectrum. A magnetic Fe 3 O 4 /MIL-88A/BC composite was fabricated from BC, MIL-88A and magnetite for the catalytic degradation of 2-nitrophenol via a Fenton-like reaction.
