In this work, the carbon-based 2D-3D composite nanocontainers endowing coatings with both active and passive protection properties were constructed by the sp 2 /sp 3 hybridized carbon as a versatile strategy. The classic graphene oxide (GO, sp 2 C) and Covalent Organic Framework-300 (COF-300, sp 3 C) were chosen as examples and benzotriazole (BTA) as the inhibitor to fabricate the GO/COF-300@BTA nanocontainer. The composite nanocontainers embedded in polyvinyl butyral (PVB) coatings were applied on cupper substrates to get mechanical enhancement, active and passive corrosion protection performance. The tensile strength of GO/COF-300/PVB (12.38 Mpa) was two times higher than that pure PVB (5.96 MPa). The active protection performance was ensured by the corrosion inhibitors encapsulated in the 3D porous carbon skeleton. The passive protection performance was endowed by the maze effect of the 2D carbon-based nanosheets. The |Z| 0.01 Hz of Cu/(GO/COF-300@BTA)/PVB was higher than 10 9 Ω·cm 2 , which was two magnitudes larger than that of PVB coating, demonstrating the anti-corrosion properties. In addition, the quantum chemical calculation and molecular dynamics simulation results elaborated the adsorption states of BTA on copper substrate and the compatibility between the molecular chains of the PVB and the GO/COF-300 nanocontainer.

Biocompatible, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and tissue regenerative smart dressings are in urgent need for infected skin wound repair in clinics. Portable in situ 3D-electrospun technology has the great advantage of direct deposition of required smart dressing on wound surfaces. Here, we fabricated a copper peptide (GHK-Cu) and quaternium-73 (Pionin) dual-drug-loaded polyvinyl butyral (PVB)/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) smart nanofibers dressing using in-situ electrospinning technology for skin wound repair. The physicochemical properties and biological activities of smart dressing were extensively analyzed. In vivo biocompatibility, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activities of smart dressing were analyzed during wound healing. Stable and homogeneous PVB/PVP nanofiber smart dressing with uniformly distributed GHK-Cu and Pionin and anabolic biological activities was obtained. Biocompatible smart dressing gave a sustained release of GHK-Cu and Pionin, promoted the migration and adhesion of dermal fibroblasts and keratinocytes, and showed anti-oxidant and anti-apoptotic effects in vitro and in vivo. Smart dressing exerted anti-inflammatory properties via M1 to M2 macrophage phenotype switching and effectively promoted wound healing. Pionin released from smart dressing not only killed but also inhibited the expression and delivery of virulence factor expression and bacteria adhesion. During wound healing, smart dressing promoted the proliferation of cells in the epidermal tissue, epithelial tissue remodeling, granulation tissue growth, neovascularization, and M2 macrophage polarization. Moreover, this smart dressing scavenged excess reactive oxygen species, increased SOD3 and SIRT1 expression, and repaired peroxidized tissue, consequently promoting wound healing. In summary, our results indicate that GHK-Cu/Pionin-loaded in situ electrospun PVB/PVP smart dressing promotes wound healing via anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and tissue regenerative effects, suggesting clinical application of this smart dressing for complicated skin wound healing.

The leakage of oil and organic solvents has emerged as the primary factor of water resources contamination and environmental degradation, causing an urgent and desirable quest for widely exploring and developing eco-friendly materials with hydrophobicity and lipophilicity. Herein, we presented a biomass-based separator composed of poly(vinyl butyral) (PVB) and natural Juncus effusus (JE) which effectively separated oil-water mixtures, to address the aforementioned issue. The as-prepared PVB/JE-based separator, benefiting from the microporous, inner three-dimensional (3D) structure, and natural wettability of JE fiber, exhibits satisfied oil absorption and separation capabilities. The hydrophobic porous in PVB/JE can effectively block the water within the oil, while providing saturated oil absorption capacity. Furthermore, the separator can also efficient separate water in multiple types of water-in-oil surfactant-stabilized emulsion (separation efficiency > 93%). After repeated use (10 cycles) or continuous filtration (20 min), the separator maintained good separation efficiency ( > 83%) and flux ( > 2000 L m −2 h −1 ). The PVB/JE-based separator exhibited satisfied potential for the rational utilization of biomass materials and application in oil/water separation, owing to its convenient manufacturing process, high separation efficiency, and eco-friendly raw material.
