Lead-free double perovskites (LFDPs) usually exhibit poor luminescent performance, and doping lanthanide ions (Ln 3+ ) presents a promising solution to solve this problem. However, most Ln 3+ ions face difficulties in incorporating into LFDPs due to the mismatch in radius or valence state. Here, we successfully synthesized rare-earth (RE 3+ ) based Cs 2 NaLuCl 6 (CNLC) LFDPs and achieved efficient green emission through doping Tb 3+ into CNLC. Introducing Sb 3+ improves the absorption efficiency of CNLC: Tb 3+ from 25.1 % to 73.5 % by establishing an energy transfer channel from Sb 3+ to Tb 3+ . Benefiting from the energy transfer, the CNLC: 0.01Sb 3+ , 0.10Tb 3+ phosphor produces blue-green dual emissions, highlighting its potential in white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs). In addition, an anti-counterfeiting pattern composed of CNLC: Sb 3+ , CNLC: Tb 3+ , and CNLC: Sb 3+ , Tb 3+ samples was fabricated, which shows their promising prospect in anti-counterfeiting applications.

Lead-free metal halide double perovskites with non-toxicity and stable self-trapped excitons (STEs) have received considerable attention in the field of photoelectric applications. However, it is difficult to achieve independent control of its photoluminescence performance to meet the requirements of multi-band emission. Herein, a doping strategy was employed to introduce lanthanide ions (Ln 3+ ) into Cs 2 NaInCl 6 :Sb 3+ nanocrystals (NCs), enabling the multicolor emission modulation ranging from blue to red and even white light. Benefiting from the efficient energy transfer from Sb-related self-trapped excitons to Ln 3+ ions, green and red emissions originate from the 5 D 0 → 7 F J (J = 1, 2, 3, 4) transition of Eu 3+ ions and 5 D 4 - 7 F J (J = 6, 5, 4, 3) transition of Tb 3+ ions, respectively. According to the tunable polychromatic photoluminescence characteristics of doped NCs, the dual-mode fluorescent anti-counterfeiting applications were exhibited. Furthermore, the distinct temperature sensitivities exhibited by blue (453 nm) and red (617 nm) emission in Cs 2 NaInCl 6 :Sb 3+ /Eu 3+ NCs provide the opportunity for the optical thermometry, which demonstrates the maximum absolute and relative sensitivity are 0.0018 and 0.43 % K −1 , respectively. These results indicate that the synthesized codoped NCs have the potential applications in multifunctional fields, such as optical thermometer, fluorescence anti-counterfeiting, and multicolor-LEDs.

Organic–inorganic hybrid metal halides have attracted considerable attention due to their facile synthesis, low cost, and high thermal and chemical stability. However, developing environmentally benign, readily synthesized, high-performance, and spectrally tunable broadband-emitting materials remains challenging. Herein, this study reports a zero-dimensional perovskite material, TEA2HfCl6:Sb3+, using a room-temperature coprecipitation method. This material exhibits low toxicity and excitation-wavelength-dependent modulation of singlet and triplet emission ratios, enabling broadband emission ranging from warm white to deep red. Notably, TEA2HfCl6:11%Sb3+ achieves a high photoluminescence quantum yield of up to 93.1%. Steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopic analyses reveal that these emissions arise from Sb3+-induced radiative transitions of singlet and triplet self-trapped excitons. Furthermore, leveraging its scalable synthesis process and favorable emission characteristics, the material shows potential for applications in large-area optical anticounterfeiting paper and full-spectrum, eye-friendly white-light-emitting diode (WLED). These findings highlight the dual functionality of TEA2HfCl6:Sb3+ in secure optical encryption and solid-state lighting, providing a promising platform for the development of multifunctional luminescent materials.

Lead-free double perovskites (LFDPs) have attracted considerable attention in recent years owing to their distinctive optical characteristics. While multi-component phosphor blends dominate commercial white light-emitting diode (WLED), the pursuit of efficient white light generation from a single crystalline lattice has yet to overcome critical bottlenecks in emission harmonization. In this study, we present a triple-doped rare-earth double perovskite, Cs 2 NaLuCl 6 : Sb 3+ , Tb 3+ , Sm 3+ . We pioneer a competitive energy transfer engineering strategy in this material, in which orchestrated energy routing from Sb 3+ to Tb 3+ and Sm 3+ enables precise spectral harmonization. This overcomes the long-standing efficiency-color quality trade-off in single-matrix WLEDs, which can be precisely controlled via dopant ratio optimization. Both steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy were used to investigate the synthesis and luminescence behavior of the triple-doped Cs 2 NaLuCl 6 : Sb 3+ , Tb 3+ , Sm 3+ . Analysis of the PL spectra reveals three key energy transfer mechanisms: (i) Sb 3+ → Tb 3+ , (ii) Sb 3+ → Sm 3+ , and (iii) Tb 3+ → Sm 3+ . Temperature-dependent PL spectra demonstrate exceptional thermal stability, and the luminous intensity decreases by only 8.8 % at high temperatures of 473 K. By fine-tuning the dopant concentrations, precise control over the CIE coordinates within the white-light region is achieved, driven by competitive energy transfer dynamics. In addition, the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) reaches 38.29 % in a Cs 2 NaLuCl 6 Single Crystal (SC) co-doped with 0.5 % Sb 3+ , 60 % Tb 3+ , and 25 % Sm 3+ . When incorporated into WLED devices, these phosphors deliver a color rendering index (CRI) of 94.7, a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 5018 K, and a near-ideal white light emission with CIE coordinates of (0.344, 0.338). This work provides a high-performance single-matrix white light emitter for WLEDs and a practical energy transfer design strategy for rare-earth-doped LFDPs, promising to advance lead-free perovskite applications in solid-state lighting.

With the continuous advancement of counterfeiting technologies, traditional static anti-counterfeiting systems have exhibited inherent security vulnerabilities, urgently necessitating the development of novel intelligent anti-counterfeiting materials with multi-stimulus responsive mechanisms. This study developed a solvent evaporation crystallization method to successfully synthesize a novel lead-free halide double perovskite (LHDPs) Cs 2 KInCl 6 : Sb 3+ , which exhibits multi-color intelligent luminescence. By precisely controlling humidity and temperature, Cs 2 KInCl 6 : Sb 3+ can undergo reversible luminescence transitions from "green → yellow (Cs 2 InCl 5 (H 2 O): Sb 3+ ) → green". The unique stimulus-responsive behavior originates from the material's high sensitivity to water molecule adsorption/desorption, making it applicable for information encryption systems. Density functional theory calculations reveal that Sb 3+ -doped introduces intermediate energy levels, reducing the bandgaps of Cs 2 InCl 5 (H 2 O), Cs 3 In 2 Cl 9 , and Cs 2 KInCl 6 , which enhances their light absorption and emission properties. Moreover, LHDPs Cs 2 KInCl 6 : Sb 3+ maintain 93 % of their initial luminescence intensity at high temperatures (403 K), demonstrating excellent thermal stability. This study elucidates the luminescence regulation mechanism of Sb 3+ -doped LHDPs and establishes a dynamic color switching model ("structural phase transition-optical response"), providing theoretical support for design next-generation smart anti-counterfeiting materials and developing of high-temperature stable luminescent devices.

Sb3+, with a 5s2 electron configuration, has been widely studied as a dopant for its efficient self-trapped exciton (STE) broadband emission. However, the efficient emission of Sb3+-doped one-dimensional (1D) structures and the energy/charge transfer between the host and dopant are rarely reported. In this paper, a series of Sb3+-doped 1D (TDMP)CdCl4 (TDMP = trans-2,5-dimethylpiperazine) powder crystals were prepared by the solvothermal method. The 1D quantum confinement effect and Jahn–Teller distortion in this organic–inorganic hybrid with a soft lattice generate strong electron–phonon coupling. In addition, we also found a fast energy transfer process between the host ([CdCl6]2–) and the dopant ([SbCl6]3–). The synergy of strong electron–phonon coupling and fast energy transfer enables 8.8% Sb3+:(TDMP)CdCl4 to exhibit efficient broadband yellow emission under UV excitation with a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 99.69%. DFT calculations indicate that the emission comes from the triplet self-trapped excitons (STEs) emission of the [SbCl6]3– octahedron. This work provides a deeper understanding of the emission of Sb3+ in doped systems and provides a strategy to guide the design of future efficient luminescent materials.

Organic-inorganic metal halides (OIMH) doped with Sb 3+ often exhibit excellent optoelectronic properties, however, their photoluminescence (PL) mechanisms, especially after Sb 3+ doping, require a deeper understanding of their excited states and optical transitions. Through synergistic analysis of temperature-dependent PL and femtosecond transient absorption (fs-TA) spectroscopic study, the coexistence of dual polaronic states and their temperature-dependent transient bipolaronic state absorption processes in 0D Sb 3+ :(C 2 H 8 N) 4 InCl 7 system have been identified: (1) Sb 3+ -site polaron or self-trapped exciton(STE) emission originating from spin-allowed ( 3 P 1 → 1 S 0 ) and ( 1 P 1 → 1 S 0 ) in SbCl 6 octahedra) is favorably formed first, giving emission at 615 nm at room temperature; (2) In 3+ -Sb 3+ donor-acceptor pair (DAP) STE (In 3 P 1 → Sb 1 S 0 ) can be produced under 111.2 cm −1 Longitudinal Optical (LO) phonon assistance at 160 K and giving emission 700 nm at room temperature. Both polaronic states can collaborate to give the broad emission with a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 98.4%. Though 0D structure, close energy span between Sb(III) and In(III) can cause such DAP behavior for Sb 3 ⁺ with 5s 2 electrons in the In-Cl matrix, this provides key insights into the radiation synergy effects with the host via short and long-range phonons. This model paves the way for developing novel high-performance luminescent materials for optoelectronic applications.

Lead-free halide perovskites have been developed and have received increasing attention in optoelectronic applications due to their non-toxicity. However, single perovskite phosphors that emit vibrant, tunable-color-temperature white-light are rare. Herein, we used the anti-solvent precipitation method to develop white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) based on rare-earth-based Sb3+ and Mn2+ co-doped Cs2KYCl6 microcrystals (MCs). The Cs2KYCl6 MCs exhibit tunable dual emissions covering a wideband ascribed to the emission of self-trapped excitons (STEs) from Sb3+ and the 4T1 to 6A1d–d transition of Mn2+. The optimal photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of doped Cs2KYCl6 is 65.78%. The energy transfer process from Sb3+ to Mn2+ is revealed. WLEDs have been successfully constructed by combining the dual emissions from STEs of Sb3+ and the d–d transition of Mn2+. These WLEDs demonstrate impressive optical performance, including CIE chromaticity coordinates (0.3483, 0.4125) and a color rendering index (CRI) of 85.4. This work provides an effective strategy for developing WLEDs based on a single-component material, lead-free perovskites.

Here, a new type of Sb 3+ ions alloying with RE 3+ (RE = Er, Ho) ions heavy concentration doped Cs 2 NaBiCl 6 double perovskites (DPs) was successfully synthesized by solvothermal method. The structure and morphology of all samples were characterized with X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The excitation and emission spectra for all samples are investigated in detailed. Under 354 nm excitation, a strong broad blue emission band from 400 to 500 nm is obtained in Cs 2 NaBiCl 6 :15 mol%Sb 3+ DPs. Compared with the Cs 2 NaBiCl 6 :RE 3+ sample, the emission intensities of Er 3+ and Ho 3+ ions for Cs 2 NaBiCl 6 :Sb 3+ /RE 3+ DPs are enhanced by 38 and 29 times due to alloying Sb 3+ ions, respectively. And the self-trapped exciton (STE) emission intensity is also dramatically increased. The energy transfer process from free exciton (FE) to STE and excited state level of RE 3+ contribute to increased luminescence intensity. In addition, the temperature-dependent luminescence spectra of Cs 2 NaBiCl 6 :Sb 3+ /RE 3+ samples were measured from 83 to 423 K. The luminescence thermal enhancement phenomenon is obtained at lower temperature range. At last, the anti-counterfeiting application of Cs 2 NaBiCl 6 :Sb 3+ /RE 3+ samples is elaborated due to their bright multi-color emission under different excitation and temperatures.

Realizing Sb3+-activated efficient broadband near-infrared (NIR) emission under blue light excitation remains a significant challenge in lead-free metal halides. To overcome the above difficulties, a coordination structure modulation strategy was adopted, and the broadband NIR emission under blue light excitation was achieved in Sb3+-doped zero-dimensional (0D) organic tin(IV) bromide. Compared to the weak visible light emission with a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 2.4% for pure (TBP)2SbBr5 (TBP = tetrabutylphosphonium), Sb3+-doped (TBP)2SnBr6 exhibits an efficient broadband NIR emission band at 705 nm with a PLQY of 33.2% upon 452 nm excitation, which stems from self-trapped exciton emission. Combined with experiments and theoretical calculations, we find that the large excited-state lattice distortion degree compared to the ground state and the narrow bandgap are dominant reasons for Sb3+-doped (TBP)2SnBr6 showing efficient NIR emission under blue light excitation. Specifically, Sb3+-doped (TBP)2SnBr6 also has excellent anti-water stability, existing stably in water for more than 4 hours while maintaining a high luminous efficiency. Based on the excellent stability and unique optical properties of Sb3+-doped (TBP)2SnBr6, a high-performance NIR light-emitting diode (LED) was fabricated by combining Sb3+-doped (TBP)2SnBr6 with a commercial blue LED chip, and its application in night vision was demonstrated.

Organic–inorganic metal halides (OIMHs) have various crystal structures and offer excellent semiconducting properties. Here, we report three novel OIMHs, (PPA)6InBr9 (PPA = [C6H5(CH2)3NH3]+), (PBA)2SbBr5, and (PBA)2SbI6 (PBA = [C6H5(CH2)4NH3]+), showing typical zero-dimensional (0D) structure, octahedra dimers, and corner-sharing one-dimensional chains and crystallized in the monoclinic system with P21, P21/c, and C2/c space groups, respectively. (PPA)6InBr9, (PBA)2SbBr5, and (PBA)2SbI6 have experimental optical band gaps of ∼3.16, ∼2.24, and 1.48 eV, respectively. (PPA)6InBr9 exhibits bright-orange light emission centered at 642 nm with a full-width at half-maximum of 179 nm (0.51 eV) and a Stokes shift of 277 nm (1.46 eV). After Sb3+ doping, the peak position did not change, and the photoluminescence quantum yield increased significantly from 9.2 to 53.0%. The efficient emission of Sb:(PPA)6InBr9 stems from the isolated ns2 luminescent center and strong electron–phonon coupling, making the spin-forbidden 3P1–1S0 observable. By combining commercial blue and green phosphors with orange-red-light-emitting (PPA)6In0.99Sb0.01Br9, a white-light-emitting diode was constructed, with the color-rendering index reaching up to 92.3. Our work highlights three novel 0D OIMHs, with chemical doping of Sb3+ shown to significantly enhance the luminescence properties, demonstrating their potential applications in solid-state lighting.

Birefringent crystals play a crucial role in modulating and controlling the polarization of light in the optical communication and laser industries. Recently, adopting appropriate strategies to enhance the birefringence of crystals has become a prominent area of research focus. Herein, four UV antimony oxalate birefringent crystals, namely, K5Sb2(C2O4)5.5·3H2O, BaSb(C2O4)2.5·3H2O, Na4Sb2O(C2O4)4·6H2O, and Na3Sb(C2O4)2F2·2H2O, have been successfully synthesized. These compounds feature a similar zero-dimensional (0D) cluster structure and share the same functional groups, including π-conjugated [C2O4]2– groups and Sb3+-based distorted polyhedra with stereochemically active lone pairs (SCALPs). Interestingly, we achieved a stepwise increase in birefringence by precisely controlling the Sb3+/[C2O4]2– ratio, ultimately resulting in the compound Na3Sb(C2O4)2F2·2H2O exhibiting a large birefringence (0.21@546 nm). Additionally, we confirmed that the synergistic effects between the π-conjugated [C2O4]2– groups and the distorted polyhedra based on Sb3+ are responsible for the excellent optical properties observed in the reported compounds.
