Developing high-activity and low-cost desulfurizers is crucial for treating the steel industry low-temperature and highly volatile low-sulfur flue gas. This study proposes a simple and effective additive engineering strategy to convert traditional quicklime into Ca(OH) 2 desulfurizer with high activity via synergistic modification with triethanolamine (TEA), diethylene glycol (DEG), and sodium silicate (Na 2 SiO 3 ). The optimized Ca@TDS has a highly porous microstructure, characterized by a specific surface area as high as 42.19 m 2 /g, and pore volume reaching 0.186 cm 3 /g. It exhibited an elevated sulfur capacity at 37.97 mg/g, with breakthrough time extended to 93.8 min at 100°C, and excellent adaptability under high SO 2 concentrations and CO 2 -containing atmospheres. Comprehensive characterization and kinetic models indicated that the synergistic effect of additives enhanced pore connectivity, promoted internal diffusion, and suppressed surface carbonate deposition. This study also successfully employed 10 tons of industrial products Ind-Ca@TDS to control SO 2 emissions below the ultra-low standard of 35 mg/m 3 in the steel plant pilot test, which fully verified the scalability and industrial feasibility of the method. This work provided an expandable and cost-effective way for the production of high specific surface Ca(OH) 2 , providing practical reference for the development of dry low-temperature FGD technology in the steel industry.

Perovskite-type catalysts were widely used in the field of automobile exhaust purification due to their inherent physicochemical properties and excellent doping characteristics. A series of La1−xMxCo1−yNyO3(M = Ce, Ca; N = Fe, Mn) perovskite-type catalyst samples were prepared by sol-gel method for the four-way purification of PM, NOx, CO, and HC emitted by diesel exhaust. The activity of catalyst samples was tested by simulation experiments and hydrogen temperature-programmed reduction (H2-TPR). Catalyst samples were characterized by means of XRD, FT-IR, SEM, BET, and XPS analysis. The results demonstrated that the perovskite-type catalyst samples with a particle pore size of 3–5 μm can be prepared by sol-gel method. When A-site of LaCoO3perovskite-type oxide was doped by cerium ions, the catalyst samples produced small distortion. The doping of cerium ions to A-site was more conducive to the four-way purification of diesel exhaust than calcium ions. La0.8Ce0.2CoO3perovskite-type samples showed the best purification efficiency, and the purification efficiencies of PM, NOx, CO, and HC were 90%, 85%, 94%, and 100%, respectively. When the B-site of La0.8Ce0.2CoO3perovskite was doped with iron ions, the purification efficiency of catalyst samples for PM and NOxcan be further enhanced. When the B-site of La0.8Ce0.2CoO3perovskite was doped with manganese ions, the purification efficiency of the catalyst samples for PM can be further enhanced. It can be seen from the simulation experiments that La0.8Ce0.2Co0.7Fe0.3O3perovskite was the best doping amount, and the purification efficiencies of PM, NOx, CO, and HC were 95%, 92%, 94%, and 100%, respectively.Keywords:perovskite-type catalyst;diesel exhaust;sol-gel method;four-way purification;doping amount

The dielectric layer plays a key role in regulating electromagnetic wave broadband scattering based on meta-surface technology. Herein, the physical properties of composite powder, prepared by spray drying of CaO-B 2 O 3 -SiO 2 (CBS) glass-ceramic powder and Al 2 O 3 in different mass ratios, are systematically investigated. Meanwhile, a high enthalpy atmospheric plasma spraying equipment is utilized to prepare CBS/Al 2 O 3 composite coatings , and the morphology, physical properties and dielectric properties of the composite coating are analyzed. The XRD and DSC data of the composite coating reveal that the crystallization behavior of β-CaSiO 3 and CaB 2 O 4 gradually disappear with the increase of Al 2 O 3 content. Hence, only CaAl 2 Si 2 O 8 phase is observed during heat treatment. The experimental results confirm that the dielectric properties of CBS/Al 2 O 3 composite coating conform to the rule of mixture for composite materials. Also, the dielectric properties are affected by porosity and crystallization rate.

Four types of Ca–Mn oxides, CaMnO3, CaMn2O4, CaMn3O6 and Ca2Mn3O8, have been prepared and used as supports for Pd nanoparticles. The oxygen activation capacity of these oxides and the catalytic activity of the oxide supported Pd nanocatalysts have been investigated using the aerobic oxidation of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural as a model reaction. It is found that the local coordination environment of lattice oxygen sites plays a crucial role on their redox properties and charge transfer ability from Pd nanoparticles to the support. In particular, the Ca–Mn oxide with lower oxygen coordination number, weaker metal–oxygen bonds and tunnel crystal structure, e.g. CaMn2O4, exhibits promoted oxygen activation capacity, and stronger electron transfer ability. Consequently, Pd/CaMn2O4 exhibits the highest catalytic activity among these catalysts, providing a promising yield of 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid. This work may shed light on future investigations on the design of local structure of active oxygen sites in oxides or oxide supported catalysts for redox reactions.

Utilizing biowaste shells (>95 wt% CaCO3) in chemical synthesis can both remediate environmental pollution and produce novel functional materials. Nonetheless, syntheses of nanomaterials from solid matter such as bio-shells are still rare. Herein, we for the first time reported the synthesis of a 0D/2D nanostructure, i.e., Ca(OH)2 nanosheets decorated with Mn3O4 quantum dots, from bio-shells in a green manner. Specifically, eggshells were calcined to form porous CaO that inherited a hierarchical framework from the source shell. The shell-derived CaO was then stirred together with KMnO4 in anhydrous ethanol at room temperature to generate the 0D/2D Ca(OH)2/Mn3O4 nanostructure (denoted as the Mn–Ca composite), in which Mn3O4 quantum dots were evenly dispersed on thin Ca(OH)2 nanosheets. Mechanism studies revealed that a trace amount of H2O released from the redox reaction between KMnO4 and ethanol regulated the slow hydrolysis and exfoliation of Ca(OH)2 nanosheets from the CaO framework. At the same time, the redox reaction generated Mn3O4 quantum dots that were deposited in situ on the Ca(OH)2 nanosheets, i.e., only where H2O was liberated and the hydrolysis of CaO took place. This mechanism allowed the uniform dispersion of Mn3O4 on the newly formed Ca(OH)2 nanosheets. Thanks to its unique 0D/2D structure, this Mn–Ca composite could highly efficiently extract trace-level Pb(II) from synthetic wastewater and outperformed many other Mn-based nanomaterials prepared purely from chemical reagents. This 0D/2D Mn–Ca composite possessed a high capacity for Pb removal (up to 1580 mg g−1 when the initial Pb(II) concentration was 1 g L−1), and it could also scavenge various other heavy metal ions such as Cu(II), Cd(II), Eu(III), Co(II), and Ag(I). Other biowaste shells such as oyster shells and clam shells also successfully produced a functional nanomaterial via the presented methodology. The current findings open a new way for biowaste recycling and may inspire the design of novel nanomaterials.

Sulfadiazine (SDZ), a type of antibiotics with refractory and high-mobile characteristics, can accumulate and be detected out in aquatic ecosystems all over the world. SDZ can be destroyed by ozonation, but the degradation effect is easily and negatively affected by carbonate ions (CO 3 2- ) which be eliminated by introduction of Ca 2+ in ozonation systems. Experimental results manifested that the maximum removal rate of 100 % and 94.15 % corresponding to SDZ and chemical oxygen demand (COD) were achieved under the optimum Ca(OH) 2 addition without pH adjustment. In addition, the presence of Cl - and humic acid inhibited the SDZ degradation to some extent. It could be found that Ca 2+ and OH - jointly played great roles in increased oxidation of ozonation. For one thing, quenching effect of CO 3 2- on •OH was eliminated through combination of Ca 2+ and CO 3 2- and low molecular intermediate forming insoluble precipitates. For another, OH - caused alkaline condition which was instrumental in existence of •OH. Moreover, successive addition of Ca(OH) 2 was proposed and proved to be feasible to elevate the •OH generation and oxidizing ability in O 3 /Ca(OH) 2 system. Ultimately, the three potential degradation pathways of SDZ were speculated basing on density function theory (DFT) calculations and identification of several intermediate products. Overall, this study provided promising insights for promotion of antibiotics removal and ozonation efficiency by alleviating the inhibitory effect of carbonate ions in aqueous environment.

The extensive use of antibiotics poses a significant risk to human health, and electrocatalysis has demonstrated effectiveness in treating antibiotic contamination. This study details the synthesis of MnO 2 /Pd(OAC) 2 @CA particle electrodes using a straightforward one-step sol–gel method and the development of a three-dimensional electrocatalytic reactor (3DER) to remove antibiotics from water. Under optimal conditions (1.5 g/L MnO 2 /0.3%Pd(OAC) 2 , pH 3 and 2.0 V), a degradation of 97.8% of tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) at a concentration of 15 mg/L is achieved within 80 min. The rate constant in the 3DER ( k = 0.0389) is 9.26 times greater than that in a two-dimensional electrocatalytic reactor (2DER) ( k = 0.0043). After ten cycles of treatment, the degradation rate of TCH remains at 86.4%. Furthermore, under optimal conditions, the energy consumption of the 3DER is significantly lower than that reported in other studies, with an EEO value of only 0.033 kWh/m 3 . Radical scavenger experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) studies identify the free radicals involved, including •OH, SO 4 • – , H*, and •O 2 – . Theoretical calculations and toxicity assessment reveal a general reduction in the toxicity of the intermediate products formed during the electrocatalytic degradation of TCH. In summary, the MnO 2 /Pd(OAC) 2 @CA particle electrodes exhibit high electrocatalytic degradation efficiency, excellent recyclability and reusability. The 3DER constructed using particle electrodes demonstrates broad applicability and environmental friendliness, providing a novel solution for remediating antibiotic-contaminated water.

Efficient cyan-emitting phosphor plays an important role in the development of solid-state lighting, which is indispensable to filling the cyan gap for full-spectrum warm-white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) with high color rendering index (CRI). Herein, a novel highly efficient broadband cyan phosphor Ce 3+ -doped Ca 3 HfAl 2 Si 2 O 12 (CHASO: Ce 3+ ) garnet compound was developed by the substitution of Lu 3+ -Al 3+ with Ca 2+ -Hf 4+ /Si 4+ in Lu 3 Al 5 O 12 . The crystal structure and photoluminescence (PL) properties of CHASO: Ce 3+ were investigated in detail. Notably, CHASO: Ce 3+ phosphor can be effectively excited by violet light (390 – 430 nm) and exhibited bright cyan emissions around 490 nm with high PL internal quantum yields of 89.2 %. Moreover, the integrated PL intensity of the phosphor at 423 K was 66.3 % of that at room temperature. Finally, by incorporating CHASO: 11 %Ce 3+ with commercial blue/yellow/red phosphor onto a violet LED chip (400 nm), the prototype full-spectrum WLEDs device exhibits warm white light with high color rendering index (CRI, Ra and R9 > 90) and low correlated color temperature 3301 K. These results suggest the highly efficient phosphor CHASO: Ce 3+ is promising for low-blue full-spectrum healthy lighting.

A one-step hydrothermal method was used to deposit a in situ composite coating on a magnesium alloy by adding ZIF-8 nanoparticles modified by polydopamine (PDA) (PDA@ZIF-8) as a photoabsorbing agent and growing Mg-Al double-layer hydroxide (LDH). The results showed that PDA@ZIF-8 nanoparticles had significant influence on the corrosion resistance, antibacterial properties, and biocompatibility of the LDH coating, and improved the compactness and crystallinity of LDH by regulating the growth of its lamella. Compared with the LDH coating, the corrosion current density of the composite coating by adding PDA@ZIF-8 nanoparticles was reduced from 2.28×10 -5 to 1.86×10 −6 A·cm -2 . And its immersion corrosion rates were 0.89 ± 0.05 mm·year −1 in SBF solution for 8 days. Meanwhile, it had antibacterial efficacy of 99.99% and 99.99% against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus , respectively, with the in vitro photothermal conversion efficiency of 29.77%. Moreover, besides greatly improving osteogenic activity and biocompatibility in vitro, the composite coating with the addtion of PDA@ZIF-8 nanoparticlescan also drive M1-type macrophages to M2-biased phenotypes after exposure to 808 nm NIR light, changing in macrophage secretion for tissue regeneration, and fulfill the excellent antibacterial properties in vivo antibacterial implantation test. This method can provide an effective way and strategy for regulating and enhancing the antibacterial functionalization and improving the corrosion resistance of the double-layer hydroxide coating on the surface of magnesium alloys.

Enterococcus faecalis is the main cause of refractory root canal infections in human teeth. The control of root canal infection is one of the conditions necessary for the successful treatment of refractory root canal infections. In the present study, nano-scale silver–zinc–calcium–silica particles loaded with different ratios of silver–zinc were successfully prepared (Ag0.5Zn3-MCSNs and Ag0.5Zn10-MCSNs). The release profiles, antibacterial activity against E. faecalis, infiltration depth into dentinal tubules, biocompatibility and effects on dentin microhardness in vitro were investigated. In addition, the antimicrobial effects of the particles against Enterococcus faecalis reinfection were evaluated in vivo in the teeth of beagle dogs. Ag, Zn, Ca and Si were released from Ag–Zn-MCSNs, and the atomic ratio of silver and zinc released can reach the optimal value of 1 : 12 (Ag0.5Zn10-MCSNs). The particles also showed good biocompatibility and antibacterial activity against Enterococcus faecalis and did not reduce the hardness of dentin. The nanoparticles could be driven into the dentinal tubules of dentin slices by ultrasonic activation. In the root canals of beagle dogs, both Ag0.5Zn3-MCSNs and Ag0.5Zn10-MCSNs demonstrated strong preventive effects against E. faecalis infection. The Ag–Zn–Ca–Si mesoporous nanoparticles may develop into a new effective root canal disinfectant or root canal sealer.

Solar interface water evaporator (SIWE) based on waste-derived carbon dots (CDs) are highly promising for large-scale production applications in the future, due to their low-cost, eco-friendly, and tunable structure and properties. However, there are still obstacles, including limited performance, blind selection of waste materials, and unknown underlying mechanisms between waste properties and the physicochemical properties of derived CDs. In this study, a novel CDs-based wooden SIWE derived from paper mill sludge (PMS) was constructed (called ESCDs-wood). Under 1 sun, ESCDs rapidly heated up from 15.6 °C to 53.5 °C and reached stability within 10 mins. The solar-thermal conversion efficiency of ESCDs was as high as 137.58 %, and the ESCDs-wood achieved a high evaporation rate of 2.94 kg m -2 h −1 . Moreover, the ESCDs-wood cost about $9 to complete 1 m 2 evaporation. Meanwhile, the ESCDs-wood exhibited long-term stability, after 20 cycles, its solar-thermal conversion efficiency and water evaporation rate remained at 84.21 % and 85.03 % of the initial test, respectively. Moreover, the Ca-doping was found to be a key factor in effectively enhancing the solar-thermal conversion and the thermal stability of ESCDs, and the exact role of Ca-doping on the solar-thermal conversion performance enhancement of CDs was validated and revealed. Therefore, this study not only constructed a cost-effectiveness, high performance, sustainability, chemical-free, and eco-friendly SIWE, but also innovatively proposed the functionalization mechanism of Ca-doping for CDs and thus provided a new sight for the targeted regulation and design of CDs.

Higher chlorine (Cl) content than lead (Pb) content in municipal solid waste incineration fly ash (MSWIFA) impeded the practical application of Pb 5 (PO 4 ) 3 Cl-derived magnesium potassium phosphate cement (MKPC) preparation strategy. Herein, Pb/Ca-rich lead slag (LS) was co-blended with MSWIFA to prepare MKPC for the synergistic treatment of both two solid wastes and the Pb-Cl solidification. The results showed that the resulting 15–15 (15 wt% MSWIFA and 15 wt% LS incorporation) sample achieved 25.44 MPa compressive strength , and Pb and Cl leaching toxicity was reduced by 99.18 % and 92.80 %, respectively. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses showed that Pb 2+ , Ca 2+ , phosphate and Cl - formed Pb x Ca 5−x (PO 4 ) 3 Cl in samples. The formation of Pb x Ca 5−x (PO 4 ) 3 Cl was also demonstrated by the high-angle annular dark field scanning transmission electron microscope (HAADF-STEM), while differences in the lattice characteristics of Pb x Ca 5−x (PO 4 ) 3 Cl and Pb 5 (PO 4 ) 3 Cl were found. In-situ XRD indicated that Ca 2+ accelerated the transformation of Pb 2+ to Pb 5 (PO 4 ) 3 Cl. After co-precipitating with Ca 2+ to form Pb x Ca 5−x (PO 4 ) 3 Cl, Pb 2+ continuously substituted Ca 2+ to eventually transform to Pb 5 (PO 4 ) 3 Cl. This work informs the synergistic treatment of MSWIFA and LS and offers new insights into the reaction mechanism between Pb 2+ , phosphate and Cl - under Ca 2+ induction.
