In polar environments, the presence of ice on the surfaces of ships and instruments can lead to equipment failure, an unstable center of gravity, and pose hazards to operators. To mitigate the damage caused by both icing and corrosion, this paper aims to investigate a corrosion-resistant photothermal deicing coating material. The coating matrix utilizes a low-viscosity epoxy resin system, while the additives include polypyrrole (PPy) with excellent photothermal conversion capability and corrosion resistance, along with graphene oxide (GO)-modified nano-silica. By carefully controlling the ratio, a composite coating is formulated with both anti-corrosion and photothermal deicing abilities under light conditions. The results demonstrate that under simulated sunlight irradiation, the surface temperature of the coating at different proportions can rise to over 80 ℃ within 10 min, with the highest temperature reaching 84.9 ℃. The optimal proportion of the coating remains unfrozen at -15 ℃, exhibiting an icing delay time of 710 s, and the frozen droplets melt within 5 s. Additionally, the coating exhibits excellent corrosion resistance, contributing to a more effective protection of metal surfaces. Therefore, this type of photothermal anticorrosive coating holds significant potential for widespread application in polar environments.

High-aspect ratio b-oriented MFI nanosheets are synthesized by simply adding a suitable amount of graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets into a multilamellar MFI zeolite crystallization system. The GO nanosheets, serving as the building blocks for oriented attachment and in situ nucleation sites, positively induce the silicalite-1 nanosheet crystallization process and confine the over-growth of MFI crystals during the subsequent preparation. A two-dimensional (2D) induction mechanism of the GO nanosheets is discussed for the generation of the b-oriented MFI nanosheets. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), nitrogen adsorption, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).

A one-step co-deposition (electro induced) process was used to develop graphene oxide/dodecyltriethoxysilane (GO/DTES) coatings with enhanced protection performance, as well as controlled thickness. The scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), atomic force microscope (AFM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscope (XPS) suggested the successful electrochemical synthesis and the inclusion of GO. XPS results and the observation of the strong absorption peak corresponding to COO groups in the diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscope (DRIFT) indicated the covalent bonding and assembly mechanism of OH and COOH groups between the GO and silanol. This revealed the intrinsic reasons for preparing the more compact GO/DTES coatings. Results from the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) showed that when the deposition potential and duration were optimized to about −0.8 V and 300 s, respectively, the GO/DTES samples with the maximum average thickness over 400 nm possessed the enhanced corrosion resistance. Analyses on corrosion SEM morphology and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscope (EDX), the long term 3.5% NaCl solution immersion for 480 h, the water contact angle upping to 110°, micro tribology and the adhesion experimental results further proved that there is an improved protection performance of those GO/DTES samples. The enhanced properties of these GO/DTES coatings can be ascribed to the GO doping and the controlled high thickness, inspiring a practical approach towards the fabrication of GO-based protection materials.

Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) is a kind of widely used brominated flame retardant (BFR), which is proven to be harmful to ecological systems and public health. It is very important to remove TBBPA from the environment. In our study, a magnetic composite named Fe3O4/GO/ZIF-67 was synthesized by a coprecipitation method and applied in the highly efficient adsorption of TBBPA from water. Static adsorption experiments demonstrated that the adsorption capacity could reach 232 mg·g−1within 120 min, which is much higher than those reported in the other literature. The experimental results show that the adsorption of TBBPA on Fe3O4/GO/ZIF-67 followed Langmuir and pseudo-second-order kinetic adsorption models. The main mechanisms for these adsorptions were identified as hydrogen bonds between OH groups in TBBPA and COOHs of Fe3O4/GO/ZIF-67, and π-π stacking between Fe3O4/GO/ZIF-67 and TBBPA. This study provides a method with great promise for the design and synthesis of better adsorbents for the removal of TBBPA from the water environment.

The use of graphene-based materials as anticorrosion coatings to protect metals is always a topic of discussion. In this work, silicon nitride (Si3N4) was aminated to improve its water dispersibility. Then it is attached to the graphene oxide (GO) surface to improve compatibility with epoxy (EP) resin as well as conductivity. The results of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and zeta potentials test analyses indicated that Si3N4–NH2@GO with a layer-point structure has been successfully prepared. The corrosion resistance of the composite coatings was characterized by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and polarization curve analysis, and the wear resistance of the composite coatings was tested by friction and wear tests. The results showed that 1.0% Si3N4–NH2@GO has excellent corrosion and wear resistance. The use of Si3N4–NH2@GO layer point structures in this study broadens the way for GO applications.

The utilization of advanced photothermal materials for personal thermal management to improve thermal comfort and regulate heat exchange between the human body and the environment is a focal point of research. Herein, this study presents the design of in situ metal-ion-incorporated photothermal GO films with high light capture efficiency (98.51% of GO–Fe-0.3 film) and exceptional photothermal conversion capability (∼61.3 °C under 1 solar illumination), offering temperature adjustability within the range of 39.1–61.3 °C. This temperature adjustability is facilitated by the straightforward control of the metal ion content, which enables versatile applications in daily human thermal regulation and high-temperature medical contexts. Furthermore, this strategy demonstrates scalability and flexibility through the variation of metal ion types. Practical simulations using a tailored flexible and wearable device reveal a rapid temperature increase of ∼61.5 °C within 600 s. Therefore, the in situ metal-ion-incorporated photothermal GO films exhibit significant potential in advancing photothermal conversion for adaptable personal thermal management.

At present, it is very necessary to select and prepare suitable positive and negative electrode materials to fabricate high-performance asymmetric supercapacitors. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have garnered significant attention in the energy storage field due to their high conductivity. As a branch, the zirconium organic framework (UIO-66) is a promising porous material due to its large specific surface area and abundant Zr centers. Graphene oxide (GO) and MXene are very suitable as substrate materials for conducting an MOF due to their abundant active sites and adjustable interlayer distance. The GO/MXene@NiZrP prepared through an in situ composite of GO and Mxene with the hydrothermal method and calcining method showed excellent electrochemical performance. Compared with the precursor UIO-66, the specific capacitance of the final product GO/MXene@NiZrP increases more than ten times, mainly because of its special layered porous structure, and GO/MXene@NiZrP has a larger specific surface area, pore volume, and surface defects caused by unstable Zr4+ than those of UIO-66. Using GO/MXene@NiZrP as the positive electrode and biochar (BC) as the negative electrode, an asymmetric supercapacitor, BC//GO/MXene@NiZrP, is assembled. After 10,000 cycles at a current density of 10 A g–1, the capacitance retention remains at 83.3%, showing excellent cycle stability.

Magnetic cerium ferrate nanoparticles, coupled with graphene oxide (GO) hybrids were synthesized via a hydrothermal method. These composite materials acted as catalysts for the degradation of the organic pollutant benzotriazole (BTA) in water using an electrocatalytically coupled ozone process (EOP). Optimal conditions for CeFeO 3 composite GO in BTA removal were determined through experiments, considering parameters such as pH, catalyst dosage, aeration flow rate, current density and inorganic anion concentration. Introducing CeFeO 3 /GO into the EOP at a concentration of 200 mg/L, with a current density of 4 mA·cm −2 and a reaction time of 50 min, results in a 100 % BTA removal rate. Experiments involving the trapping of free radicals evidenced that the system enhances the generation of hydroxyl radicals (•OH), superoxide radicals (•O 2 – ), and singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) active substances during the degradation of BTA. The degradation mechanism of BTA with CeFeO 3 /GO in the EOP system was elucidated through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (IC-MS) analyses of the catalysts before and after the CeFeO 3 /GO-EOP reaction. The reaction energy barrier and electron transfer mechanism of CeFeO 3 /GO adsorption of O 3 and the degradation mechanism of BTA in CeFeO 3 /GO-O 3 were investigated by using density-functional theory (DFT). This study provides a novel perspective on the removal of emerging pollutants, offering valuable insights for future research and environmental remediation strategies.

A high-performance aldehyde sensor is of great significance for the detection of construction machinery exhaust gas and the analysis of environmental gas. Herein, we developed a novel aerogel SERS substrate of 4-Aminothiophenol (4-ATP) decorated three-dimensional (3D) porous structure using graphene oxide (GO), Au nanoparticles (Au NPs) and MXene as precursors. Benefiting from the synergistic effect of metal conductivity of MXene, the oxygen-enriched surface of GO and the high-density of “hot spots” (Au NPs), the 3D MXene/Au/GO/4-ATP aerogel structure exhibits enhanced capture efficiency of gaseous aldehyde and plasma enhancement for in-situ aldehyde gas detection. More importantly, a hot-blowing assisted SERS detection device was designed for gaseous aldehydes sensing. The SERS detection device responses to gaseous aldehyde molecules in simulated exhaust gas, offering fast detection time, high sensitivity, excellent reproducibility, and distinct selectivity. This work provides a potential strategy for monitoring harmful emissions, and promotes the design of a multi-functional SERS platform for complex gas sensing.

Purpose The treatment of craniofacial bone defects caused by trauma, tumors, and infectious and degenerative diseases is a significant issue in current clinical practice. Following the rapid development of bone tissue engineering (BTE) in the last decade, bioactive scaffolds coupled with multifunctional properties are in high demand with regard to effective therapy for bone defects. Herein, an innovative bone scaffold consisting of GO/Cu nanoderivatives and GelMA-based organic-inorganic hybrids was reported for repairing full-thickness calvarial bone defect. Methods In this study, motivated by the versatile biological functions of nanomaterials and synthetic hydrogels, copper nanoparticle (CuNP)-decorated graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets (GO/Cu) were combined with methacrylated gelatin (GelMA)-based organic-inorganic hybrids to construct porous bone scaffolds that mimic the extracellular matrix (ECM) of bone tissues by photocrosslinking. The material characterizations, in vitro cytocompatibility, macrophage polarization and osteogenesis of the biohybrid hydrogel scaffolds were investigated, and two different animal models (BALB/c mice and SD rats) were established to further confirm the in vivo neovascularization, macrophage recruitment, biocompatibility, biosafety and bone regenerative potential. Results We found that GO/Cu-functionalized GelMA/β-TCP hydrogel scaffolds exhibited evidently promoted osteogenic activities, M2 type macrophage polarization, increased secretion of anti-inflammatory factors and excellent cytocompatibility, with favorable surface characteristics and sustainable release of Cu2+. Additionally, improved neovascularization, macrophage recruitment and tissue integration were found in mice implanted with the bioactive hydrogels. More importantly, the observations of microCT reconstruction and histological analysis in a calvarial bone defect model in rats treated with GO/Cu-incorporated hydrogel scaffolds demonstrated significantly increased bone morphometric values and newly formed bone tissues, indicating accelerated bone healing. Conclusion Taken together, this BTE-based bone repair strategy provides a promising and feasible method for constructing multifunctional GO/Cu nanocomposite-incorporated biohybrid hydrogel scaffolds with facilitated osteogenesis, angiogenesis and immunoregulation in one system, with the optimization of material properties and biosafety, it thereby demonstrates great application potential for correcting craniofacial bone defects in future clinical scenarios.

Ion cross-linking is often used to prepare graphene hydrogels, but the effects of different ion introductions on the properties of graphene hydrogels need to be further explored. In this study, graphene oxide (GO) and GO@MXene non-spherical hydrogels were prepared by introducing different ions, and their adsorption effects on methylene blue (MB) were discussed to determine their feasibility in water treatment. The adsorption efficiencies were significantly variable because the introduction of different ions had different effects on the internal structure and molding process of the hydrogels. The GO and GO@MXene hydrogels crosslinked with Ca2+ demonstrated superior MB adsorption performance compared to those prepared with K+ and Al3+, achieving 85.2% and 85.8% MB removal efficiencies within 9 hours, respectively. Interestingly, the morphology of the hydrogel can be changed by adjusting the drop height, which in turn affects the MB adsorption. The results showed that hydrogels had faster MB removal by preparing them from a higher height (3.5 cm). The results demonstrated that hydrogels prepared from a higher droplet fall height (3.5 cm) exhibited accelerated MB removal, with a 10–20% enhancement in removal efficiency. In addition, the effects of pH and contact time on the adsorption performance of the hydrogels were investigated. The results showed that the best removal effect was achieved under neutral conditions, and the adsorption process was consistent with the pseudo-quadratic kinetic model (R2 > 0.97). In addition, we found that the introduction of MXene enhanced the water stability of the hydrogels, which increased with the metal ion valence number. Furthermore, our study demonstrated that Ca2+-crosslinked GO and GO@MXene hydrogels exhibit excellent selective adsorption of cationic dyes, achieving MB removal efficiencies of 96.6% and 98.3% in mixed dye systems, respectively. This study not only confirms that the introduction of ions can affect the properties of hydrogels by modulating their morphology, but also provides potential candidates for MB adsorption.

The nanocomposite materials are highly promising candidates for adsorption applications in dyed wastewater due to their distinctive structural properties. In this work, the nanocomposite hybrids of UiO-66@GO were first synthesized by specifically anchoring Zr-based metal organic framework (MOF) of UiO-66 onto graphene oxide (GO) nanolayer through solvothermal method. Then the composite matrix microspheres (CMMs) of UiO-66@GO were subsequently prepared by embedding the obtained UiO-66@GO nanocomposite into sodium alginate (SA) microspheres through self-assembly cross-linking process. Finally, the prepared UiO-66@GO CMMs were applied for the adsorption of organic dye pollutant and showed efficient water purification performance. As a result, the UiO-66@GO CMMs exhibited selective cationic dye adsorption for Rhodamine B (RhB + ). The experimental results revealed that the adsorption kinetics followed by the pseudo-second-order (PSD) model with rate constant k 2 = 0.95 × 10 –3 g mg −1 min −1 , and the thermodynamics followed by the Langmuir model with adsorption capacity of 345.66 mg mg −1 . Notably, the UiO-66@GO CMMs demonstrated excellent adsorption removal of a significant removal efficiency of 98% towards 10 ppm Rh-B and a rapid adsorption response time of ~ 5 min. Meanwhile, the UiO-66@GO CMMs maintained long-term stability with adsorption efficiency > 95% over 30 days and effective reuse with resorption efficiency > 90% using DMF-H₂O as eluent. In this study, SA has served as a porous supporting matrix to immobilize UIO-66@GO nanoparticles, having mitigated issues of aggregation and leaching common to nanoscale adsorbents while improving reusability. The synergistic effect between UIO-66 and GO has further enhanced pollutant adsorption capacity, demonstrating significant potential for dye wastewater treatment applications.
