Ionogels have garnered significant attention in flexible sensing due to their outstanding mechanical properties, conductivity, and stability. However, establishing a robust and stable adhesive interface with various substrates remains a significant challenge. Herein, hydrogen-bonded ionogels were synthesized through the self-polymerization of hydrophobic ionic monomers. The introduction of hydrogen bonding effectively balances the intrinsic cohesive strength of the ionogels and their interfacial wettability, thereby enhancing adhesive strength. The optimal ionogels exhibited a tensile strength of 0.62 MPa, a modulus of 0.474 MPa, and an adhesive strength of 1208.3 kPa, surpassing most reported values for ionogels. Additionally, the ionogels retained superior electrical conductivity (44.78 mS cm −1 ) and excellent optical transparency (>80%). A strain sensor fabricated from the ionogels demonstrated excellent sensitivity and stability, enabling the construction of a smart sensing glove capable of precise gesture recognition when integrated with deep learning algorithms. Intriguingly, the ionogels also exhibited selective recognition of ammonia (NH 3 ), with a detection limit (LOD) of 65 ppb. Leveraging these advantages, the integration of the ionogel with a wireless data acquisition and transmission module enables rapid, convenient, and real-time NH 3 detection. This work presents an effective approach for developing highly adhesive ionogels, broadening their potential for practical applications.

A CeO 2 /Zn 2 SnO 4 ammonia (NH 3 ) sensor with excellent sensing performance was prepared by a one-step hydrothermal method, and the effect of surface oxygen vacancies on the performance of the sensor was analyzed by density functional theory (DFT). Experimental results show that the construction of CeO 2 /Zn 2 SnO 4 heterojunction can improves the content of oxygen vacancies on the surface of Zn 2 SnO 4 , which provides more adsorption active sites for NH 3 molecules and effectively improves the gas sensing performance of the sensor. DFT results indicate that surface oxygen vacancies facilitate the charge transfer caused by the adsorption of NH 3 molecules by CeO 2 , thereby increasing the binding energy of NH 3 molecules. Additionally, the surface oxygen vacancies can cause the structure of Zn 2 SnO 4 to deform during the adsorption of NH 3 , leading to significant electron hybridization and thereby increasing the binding energy of NH 3 molecules. In addition, CeO 2 /Zn 2 SnO 4 sensor was successfully applied to detect the NH 3 gas concentration released by different levels of freshness of beef, providing an effective method for monitoring the freshness of high-protein foods.

Abstract A novel TiO 2 -supported vanadium-substituted tungstophosphoric acid (PW 11 V/TiO 2 ) catalyst was designed and applied for selective catalytic reduction of NO x by NH 3 . Compared with the commercial tungstophosphoric acid (PW 12 /TiO 2 ), PW 11 V/TiO 2 displayed a nearly 90% activity improvement at 300 °C. In addition, the favorable resistance and stability to SO 2 were also obtained over PW 11 V/TiO 2 catalyst. Phase analysis and spectroscopy results indicated the vanadium was successfully incorporated into the molecular structure of PW 12 , and the Keggin framework still keep stable over the TiO 2 support. H 2 -TPR test proved the incorporation of vanadium promoted the redox ability of PW 11 V. The present study provides us an effective way to improve the performance of catalytic removal of NO x through tungstophosphoric acid catalyst. Graphic Abstract
After introduction of V species, the obtained PW 11 V/TiO 2 catalyst show better NH 3 -SCR performance and N 2 selectivity than PW 12 /TiO 2 catalyst.

The strategy of constructing catalytic membrane has a significant influence on its structure and performance. In this work, Co 3 O 4 -C x @SiO 2 nanofiber membranes (NFMs) were fabricated by an in-situ growth–pyrolysis–oxidation strategy. The Co 3 O 4 -C x catalyst derived from ZIF-67 was wrapped around nanofibers, which helps to maintain a stable membrane structure, then suppressing the reduction of gas permeability. Among the Co 3 O 4 -C x catalyst, the carbon skeleton can prevent the agglomeration of Co 3 O 4 nanoparticles, obtaining an ultra-fine Co 3 O 4 nanoparticles with high dispersibility, redox property and surface area. The obtained Co 3 O 4 -C 300 @SiO 2 NFM exhibits outstanding ammonia selective catalytic reduction (NH 3 -SCR) denitrification activity (T 90 = 225 °C at a GHSV of 77,000 h −1 ). The effect of catalyst loading on PM 2.5 filtration performance of SiO 2 NFM was also tested. Co 3 O 4 -C 300 @SiO 2 NFM has higher filtration efficiency (99.99%) than SiO 2 NFM at a lower pressure drop of 58 Pa, which suggests that catalyst loading via our method can improve the filtration performance of SiO 2 NFM. This work might provide a universal strategy for the design and preparation of highly efficient catalytic membrane.

We report a room-temperature NH3 gas sensor with high response and great long-term stability, including CeO2 NPs conformally coated by cross-linked PANI hydrogel. Such core–shell nanocomposites were prepared by in situ polymerization with different weight ratios of CeO2 NPs and aniline. At room temperature, the nanohybrids showed enhanced response (6.5 to 50 ppm of NH3), which could be attributed to p–n junctions formed by the intimate contact between these two materials. Moreover, the stability was discussed in terms of phytic acid working as a gelator, which helped the PANI sheath accommodate itself and enhance the mechanical strength and chemical stability of the sensors by avoiding “swelling effect” in high relative humidity. The sensors maintained its sensing characteristic (response of ca. 6.5 to 50 ppm of NH3) in 15 days. Herein, the obtained results could help to accelerate the development of ammonia gas sensor.

Catalysts for NH 3 selective catalytic reduction (NH 3 -SCR) suffer from severe alkali metal poisoning, particularly by potassium (K). In this study, a series of K-resistant zirconium phosphate supported CeO 2 -SnO 2 catalysts (CeSn/ZrPs) were prepared by a hydrothermal-impregnation method and the simulated poisoning process with K loading amounts ranging from 1 wt% to 10 wt% was achieved by impregnating the catalysts with a KCl solution. The catalyst that contained 20 wt% Ce and 1 wt% Sn exhibited excellent SCR activity and K-poisoning resistance. The NO conversion over the CeSn/ZrP catalyst achieved 91.6% at 350 °C after 5 wt% K poisoning, and even retained 80.2% when the K content was increased to 8 wt%. The resistance mechanism of CeSn/ZrP against K-poisoning was studied by a series of characterizations. The results demonstrate that CeSn/ZrP exhibits a high surface area, strong acidity and enhanced redox properties due to Sn doping. The abundant Brønsted acid sites provided by the zirconium phosphate support played a crucial role in resisting K poisoning. In-situ DRIFTS revealed that KCl poisoning primarily suppresses the SCR reaction by occupying acid sites and reducing NH3 adsorption. The abundant acid sites of CeSn/ZrP can ensure that the catalyst retains a certain NH 3 adsorption capacity under high KCl loading.

Abstract The catalytic conversion of gaseous NO to NH3 offers a promising dual-benefit strategy for environmental remediation and sustainable chemical synthesis. Herein, CuO/Al2O3 catalysts with varied CuO loadings (x wt %, xCu/Al) were developed for the possible NH3 production from NO reduction by CO with the assistance of H2O. While increasing CuO loading (1–12 wt %) monotonically improved NO conversion to N2 under dry conditions, the introduction of H2O dramatically boosted NO conversion on 5Cu/Al with highly dispersed CuOx clusters, raising its NO conversion comparable to that of 12Cu/Al. Further analysis revealed that NH3 was generated on xCu/Al catalysts under wet conditions, with NH3 generation on 5Cu/Al initiating at the lowest temperature (275 °C) and being the most vigorous. Combined experimental and theoretical analysis suggested that, on CuOx clusters, H2O facilitated the conversion of the NCO* intermediate to NH3 with a much lower activation barrier compared to its CO-mediated pathway to N2, well explaining the boosted NO conversion and NH3 yield on the 5Cu/Al catalyst upon H2O addition to NO + CO flow. This work highlights that a simple, earth-abundant Cu catalyst enabled the efficient and cost-effective synthesis of NH3 from air pollutants of NO and CO under mild conditions, underscoring a sustainable strategy that simultaneously addresses pollution abatement and resource recovery.

CeO 2 –TiO 2 catalysts with four different morphologies were successfully synthesized by a hydrothermal method and tested for selective catalytic reduction of NO x with NH 3 (NH 3 –SCR). For the four catalysts, CeO 2 –TiO 2 nanocubes (CT–NC) and nanorods (CT–NR) preferentially exposed {1 0 0} and {1 1 0} facets, respectively; furthermore, nanosheets (CT–NS) and nanospheres (CT–NH) mainly exposed {1 1 1} facet. Interestingly, CT–NH catalyst showed the best NH 3 –SCR performance and the NO x conversion exceeded 97% at 325 °C. Through a series of characteristic methods manifested that the short–range ordered structure of Ce–O–Ti in CT–NH catalyst provided stronger surface acidic sites to promote the high–temperature activity. Moreover, the abundant Ce 3+ species and appropriate reduction ability on {1 1 1} facet of CT–NH catalyst also caused outstanding de NO x activity. Reaction mechanism study showed that the Langmuir–Hinshelwood (L–H) mechanism and Eley–Rideal (E–R) mechanism existed simultaneously on all catalysts in NH 3 –SCR reaction. Meaningfully, two types of E–R mechanism were present on CT–NH catalyst, while L–H mechanism was dominant.

Inspired by the similarity between the pleated structure of rose petals and the pleated structure of a dog's maxillary turbinate, porous biomass carbon materials with a pleated structure have been successfully prepared from rose petals by direct carbonization. Detailed SEM and TEM characterization showed that the carbonized rose tea (CRT) at 600 °C exhibited a mimetic structure very similar to the dog's maxillary turbinate. The trace K element was detected in the prepared CRT materials, which effectively improved the adsorption capacity of the CRT materials for NH3 as revealed by density functional theory based on first-principles calculations. As a result, the CRT sensor showed an ultra-high response (60.16k%) to 500 ppm NH3 with a theoretical detection limit of only 4.82 ppb, in addition to showing a fast recovery (2.0 s), excellent repeatability and long-term stability. Moreover, the formation of nanopores in the pleated structure of the CRT and the sensing mechanism of NH3 were analyzed. Through a simple, inexpensive and efficient method, this study provides a new strategy for the preparation of a high-performance gas sensor with a bionic structure by directly using the similarity between the biomass structure and dog nose structure.

The effects of SO 2 on an one-pot synthesized Cu-SSZ-13 catalyst for selective reduction of NO x by NH 3 were examined. The addition of SO 2 inhibited NO x conversion significantly below 300 °C, while no effect on NO x conversion was observed above 300 °C. TGA, TPD , and XPS results showed that the deactivation was caused by the formation of (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 , SO 2 chemisorption on the isolated Cu 2+ ion sites, as well as the formation of CuSO 4 -like species. Among them, the site-blocking effect of (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 on Cu 2+ was the primary reason for deactivation. Fortunately, 89% of deNO x activity of the poisoned catalyst was recovered after thermal treatment at 500 °C in air, where (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 was completely decomposed. The activity was further recovered with regeneration temperature increasing to 600 °C, removing the adsorbed SO 2 on the Cu 2+ sites. The regeneration at 600 °C could not recover the activity completely, because of the high stability of CuSO 4 -like species.

A series of MOx–Cr2O3–La2O3/TiO2–N (M = Cu, Fe, Ce) catalysts with nitrogen doping were prepared via the impregnation method. Comparing the low-temperature NH3-SCR activity of the catalysts, CeCrLa/Ti–N (xCeO2–yCr2O3–zLa2O3/TiO2–N) exhibited the best catalytic performance (NO conversion approaching 100% at 220–460 °C). The physico-chemical properties of the catalysts were characterized by XRD, BET, SEM, XPS, H2-TPR, NH3-TPD and in situ DRIFTS. From the XRD and SEM results, N doping affects the crystalline growth of anatase TiO2 and MOx (M = Cu, Fe, Ce, Cr, La) which were well dispersed over the support. Moreover, the doping of N promotes the increase of the Cr6+/Cr ratio and Ce3+/Ce ratio, and the surface chemical adsorption oxygen content, which suggested the improvement of the redox properties of the catalyst. And the surface acid content of the catalyst increased with the doping of N, which is related to CeCrLa/TiO2–N having the best catalytic activity at high temperature. Therefore, the CeCrLa/TiO2–N catalyst exhibited the best NH3-SCR performance and the redox performance of the catalysts is the main factor affecting their activity. Furthermore, in situ DRIFTS analysis indicates that Lewis-acid sites are the main adsorption sites for ammonia onto CeCrLa/TiO2–N and the catalyst mainly follows the L–H mechanism.

The challenge for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO x with NH 3 is to improve de-NO x activity at low temperatures while simultaneously improving the tolerance of catalysts towards SO 2 poisoning. Herein, V and Ce oxides were loaded on deactivated SCR catalysts subjected to acid pickling (CAT) via impregnation to recover de-NO x activity. The resulting V–Ce@CAT catalyst exhibited 85–95% NO x conversions over a wide temperature window of 200–450 °C while conversions of only 40–78% over the same temperature range were observed with CAT (spent catalyst treated with acid). Interestingly, in addition to the high tolerance towards SO 2 displayed by V–Ce@CAT, the catalyst exhibited improved reactivity after the introduction of 200 ppm SO 2 , with the NO x conversion increasing from 80% to 87%. The results indicated that a kinetic equilibrium was reached between the formation and decomposition rates of Ce 2 (SO 4 ) 3 on V–Ce@CAT which prevented the accumulation of surface sulfate species, thereby protecting the main active species V from catalytic inactivation. Furthermore, in situ DRIFTS revealed that the NH 3 -SCR reaction pathway of V–Ce@CAT follows the L-H mechanism.
