Biomimetic hierarchical bone scaffold: outer Haversian canals and inner Gyroid pores for high memchanical strength. • Cascade antibacterial: thermal cleaves biofilms and Fe-NO bonds, releasing NO into bacteria to kill S. aureus and E. coli • Synergistic osteogenesis: thermal activates HSP70, synergizing with Ca 2+ and PO 4 3- to boost osteogenic differentiation. • pH regulation: amine groups from oxidative self-polymerization increase the pH value, enhancing scaffold stability. Poly- L -lactic acid (PLLA) is widely used in bone scaffold engineering due to its favorable biocompatibility, biodegradability, and processability. However, its mechanical properties are limited by insufficient crystallinity during fabrication. Moreover, bone repair is often accompanied by early bacterial infection and local pH reduction, which challenge the antibacterial effect, osteogenic capacity and structural stability of PLLA scaffolds. Herein, PLLA and hydroxyapatite (HA) are melt-blended into PLLA/HA (PHA). followed by self-polymerization of polydopamine (PDA) and electrostatic adsorption sodium nitroprusside of (SNP). The composite is then prepared into a PHA@PDA-SNP scaffold, with an outer Haversian canal layer and inner Gyroid-perforated. Ingeniously, the scaffold utilizes photothermal produced by near-infrared light to cleave biofilm and the Fe-NO bond in SNP, promoting NO release and entry into bacteria. Meanwhile, thermal can activate HSP70, synergizing with Ca 2+ and PO 4 3- released by PHA to boost osteogenic differentiation. Moreover, the amine groups retained during the oxidation process of PDA can weaken the acidic environment and enhance scaffold stability. Results show that the bone scaffold mimics the natural bone structure with high compressive strength (162.9 MPa) by biomimetic manufacturing. Scaffold exhibits cell osteogenic differentiation as evidenced by a 70% upregulation of HSP70 and Ca 2+ influx, and a 4.5-fold increase of ALP and ARS. Scaffold utilizes photothermal and NO to achieve antibacterial rates of 97.4% and 98.2% against S. aureus and E. coli , respectively. A novel MnO x –TiO 2 catalyst with hollow silkworm structure was synthesized successfully via an ethanol-thermal strategy by using activated carbon fiber felt as template for the first time. The silkworm-like MnO x –TiO 2 catalyst (MnTi) exhibited higher NO x conversion in the whole experimental temperature region (90–330 °C) under a high space velocity of 36,000 h −1 in comparison with the common MnO x –TiO 2 catalyst without hollow silkworm structure (MnTi-B). The excellent catalytic performance of MnTi can be attributed to its high specific surface area, large content of active surface oxygen species (O S ), and more surface acid sites. In addition, the MnTi catalyst also exhibited excellent resistance to water or SO 2 poisoning.

A series of meso-microporous Cu-SAPO-34 catalysts were successfully synthesized by a one-pot hydrothermal crystallization method, and these catalysts exhibited excellent NH 3 -SCR performance at low temperature. Their structure and physic chemical properties were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), N 2 sorption-desorption, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission spectrometer (ICP-AES), X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XPS), Temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia (NH 3 -TPD), Ultraviolet visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS) and Temperature programmed reduction (TPR). The analysis results indicate that the high activities of Cu-SAPO-34 catalysts could be attributed to the enhancement of redox property, the formation of mesopores and the more acid sites. Furthermore, the kinetic results verify that the formation of mesopores remarkably reduces diffusion resistance and then improves the accessibility of reactants to catalytically active sites. The 1.0-Cu-SAPO-34 catalyst exhibited the high NO conversion (> 90%) among the wide activity temperature window in the range of 150–425°C.

The strategy of constructing catalytic membrane has a significant influence on its structure and performance. In this work, Co 3 O 4 -C x @SiO 2 nanofiber membranes (NFMs) were fabricated by an in-situ growth–pyrolysis–oxidation strategy. The Co 3 O 4 -C x catalyst derived from ZIF-67 was wrapped around nanofibers, which helps to maintain a stable membrane structure, then suppressing the reduction of gas permeability. Among the Co 3 O 4 -C x catalyst, the carbon skeleton can prevent the agglomeration of Co 3 O 4 nanoparticles, obtaining an ultra-fine Co 3 O 4 nanoparticles with high dispersibility, redox property and surface area. The obtained Co 3 O 4 -C 300 @SiO 2 NFM exhibits outstanding ammonia selective catalytic reduction (NH 3 -SCR) denitrification activity (T 90 = 225 °C at a GHSV of 77,000 h −1 ). The effect of catalyst loading on PM 2.5 filtration performance of SiO 2 NFM was also tested. Co 3 O 4 -C 300 @SiO 2 NFM has higher filtration efficiency (99.99%) than SiO 2 NFM at a lower pressure drop of 58 Pa, which suggests that catalyst loading via our method can improve the filtration performance of SiO 2 NFM. This work might provide a universal strategy for the design and preparation of highly efficient catalytic membrane.

Abstract Combining the redox properties of Co and the acid properties of Nb in a Co 3 -Nb-O x catalyst is shown to provide superior performance in the selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH 3 (NH 3 -SCR). Co 3 O 4 shows average activity, however, it exhibits a poor N 2 selectivity. Nb 2 O 5 is not active for NH 3 -SCR. However, the mixed Co 3 -Nb-O x catalyst shows higher NO conversion and N 2 selectivity than the single Co 3 O 4 and Nb 2 O 5 catalysts at 100–300 °C. The results of temperature programmed reduction by H 2 and X-ray photoelectron (XP) spectra indicate that the addition of Nb changes the chemical states of Co and decreases the concentration of Co 3+ and O α , adjusting the activity for catalytic oxidation to a moderate level. This suppresses the formation of undesired N 2 O from the over-oxidation of NH 3 . Incorporation of Co and Nb into one solid synergistically couples their redox behavior and surface acidity, ensuring the high catalytic activity and N 2 selectivity in NH 3 -SCR. Graphical Abstract

Simultaneous nitrogen monoxide (NO) reduction and elemental mercury (Hg 0 ) oxidation in the presence of ammonia (NH 3 ) was for the first time studied on a copper oxide/titanium dioxide (CuO/TiO 2 ) catalyst at low flue gas temperatures. More than 80% NO reduction and 90% Hg 0 oxidation were concurrently achieved on the CuO/TiO 2 catalyst at 250 °C under a simulated NH 3 selective catalytic reduction (SCR) atmosphere. NO was likely oxidized on the CuO/TiO 2 catalyst to form active nitrogenous species, particularly with the aid of oxygen. The active nitrogenous species then significantly promoted Hg 0 oxidation. NH 3 itself did not affect Hg 0 conversion on the CuO/TiO 2 catalyst. The co-occurrences of NO and NH 3 led to a reduction in oxidized mercury (HgO in this work), which partially offset the Hg 0 oxidation and therefore resulted in a relatively lower Hg 0 conversion efficiency. However, compared to flue gas without NO and NH 3 , the combined presence of NO and NH 3 still enhanced Hg 0 oxidation over the CuO/TiO 2 catalyst, primarily because of the overwhelming benefit from NO. This is superior to many other SCR catalysts, including commercial vanadia-based SCR catalysts, on which an SCR atmosphere generally inhibits Hg 0 conversion.

Using nanoclusters and single atoms with unique activity to replace nanoparticles is a promising strategy to enhance catalyst activity. However, stable loading of nanoclusters and single atoms remain a challenge. This paper reports atomically dispersed Pt bridged with metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived ZnO/C through carbon atoms (Pt–ZnO/C), by impregnation combined with calcination , for photocatalytic oxidation of NO. The MOF-derived ZnO/C has a larger specific surface area than pure ZnO. The presence of C enhances the visible light absorption, promotes the migration of photogenerated carriers , and more importantly facilitates the stabilization of Pt single atoms through Pt–C interactions. The Pt species present in the Pt–ZnO/C catalysts in the form of single atoms and nanoclusters. The Pt–ZnO/C catalysts show high NO conversion rates and selectivity towards NO 3 − /NO 2 − ions formation. Specifically, the NO conversion rate of 81.9% is much higher than those of ZnO/C (31.4%) and Pt nanoparticles loaded ZnO/C (Pt NPs-ZnO/C, 58.6%). In addition, the selectivity of NO 3 − /NO 2 − (i.e., 98.6%) formation over the Pt–ZnO/C catalyst is much higher than that of NO 2 (i.e., 1.4%). Furthermore, the photocatalysis tests and ESR results suggest that the Pt single atoms and nanoclusters can enhance the oxidation of NO by promoting the production of O 2 •- and OH • . The DFT results also reveal that single Pt atoms promote the adsorption of O 2 and H 2 O to form O 2 •- and OH • . More importantly, OH • can promote the selective oxidation of NO to NO 3 − /NO 2 − ions. In addition, the projected density of states of single Pt atoms loaded on the ZnO/C catalysts show that the presence of C atom bridge favors the stability of single Pt atoms because of the interaction between C and Pt atoms. This work provides a new strategy for the design of single-atom-loaded metal oxide catalysts.

Simultaneously improving both NO x conversion and N 2 selectivity in the selective catalytic reduction of NO by CO (CO-SCR) under O 2 -containing conditions is highly challenging because of the competitive reactions of NO x and CO with O 2 . Here, we demonstrate that the interfacial oxygen vacancies (IOVs) generated at the Co 3 O 4 -CeO 2 heterointerfaces by ball-milling-induced strain can remarkably boost both NO x conversion and N 2 selectivity in the temperature range of 100–400 °C. The Co 3 O 4 -CeO 2 -IOV catalyst achieved approximately 100% NO x conversion and 100% N 2 selectivity (200–350 °C, 1–5 vol% O 2 , and 20,000 h −1 ); even under 10 vol% O 2 , it still showed good catalytic performance. The spectroscopy analysis and theoretical calculations reveal that compared with O 2 activation, IOVs are more favorable for the rate-limiting step of NO adsorption and dissociation. This work provides an effective strategy to create IOVs within metal oxide composite catalysts using ball-milling-induced interfacial strain for improving CO-SCR performance.

Our previous work had demonstrated that UV/NaClO2 was the best advanced oxidation method in terms of nitric oxide (NO) removal, but we have not studied the impact of the fly ash on NO removal under such conditions. For this, this paper selected six kinds of fly ashes and studied their effects on NO removal. The micromorphology, elemental composition, and the elemental oxidation states of these six fly ashes were characterized by scanning electron microscopy-energy-dispersive X-ray spectra, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and inductively coupled plasma methods. The main inorganic components in the six fly ashes are metal oxides (Fe2O3/Fe3O4, SiO2, Al2O3, ZnO, MgO, and TiO2), carbonates (Na2CO3 and CaCO3), and chlorides (NaCl, KCl, and MgCl2). The experimental results suggested that high solubility was the premise condition for the fly ashes exhibiting an inhibitory effect on NO removal. Among all of the metal compounds, Fe2O3/Fe3O4 exhibited the highest inhibitory contribution rate to the NO removal (22.9–45.7%). The anions of Cl– and CO32– acted as scavengers for the free radicals which greatly impaired the oxidation of NO. Based on the simulation experimental results and the UV–vis analysis, the order of inhibitory contribution rates of various metal compounds to the NO removal was determined as Fe2O3/Fe3O4 > TiO2 ≈ Na2CO3 > Al2O3 ≈ ZnO ≈ MnO2 > CaCO3 > NaCl > KCl ≈ SiO2 ≈ MgCl2.

The mutation status of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) exon 19 is of great importance for predicting sensitivity to tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in the treatment of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the development of simple, sensitive, and no-nonspecific amplification platforms for EGFR 19del detection in NSCLC remains a challenge. Herein, we developed a novel, simple, and highly sensitive naked-eye assay utilizing CRISPR/Cas12a-triggered no-nonspecific nucleic acid amplification (NAA) with rolling circle amplification (RCA) as a model for EGFR 19del detection. Typically, circular padlocks are designed to be the trans-cleavage substrate of Cas12a/crRNA and serve as templates for RCA. Since the target EGFR 19del induces robust trans-cleavage activity of the Cas12a/crRNA duplex, the surrounding circular padlocks are cleaved into random short linear fragments that are unable to initiate RCA, resulting in a colorless solution. However, in the absence of EGFR 19del, the inactivated Cas12a enzymes cannot cleave the circular padlocks, and they remain able to serve as templates to initiate RCA to generate long single-stranded DNA to further fold into G-quadruplex/hemin DNAzymes to catalyze the oxidation of 2,2′-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt (ABTS2–), generating a color response that is obvious to the naked eye. As expected, this strategy with a detection limit as low as 20 fM exhibited robust selectivity and anti-interference ability. Moreover, this method was applicable for detecting EGFR 19del in real serum samples and showed high consistency with real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and sequencing results, providing a promising strategy for the early noninvasive diagnosis and guidance of clinical treatment for cancer.

Hypoxia in tumor cells is regarded as the most crucial cause of clinical drug resistance and radio-resistance; thus, relieving hypoxia of tumor cells is the key to enhancing the efficacy of anticancer therapy. As a gas signal molecule of vasodilatation factors, nitric oxide (NO) can relieve the hypoxia status of tumor cells, thereby, enhancing the sensitivity of tumor cells to radiotherapy. However, considering complications of vascular activity, the level of NO required for radiotherapy sensitization cannot be obtained in vivo. In view of this, we design and fabricate a multifunctional bismuth-based nanotheranostic agent, which is functionalized with S-nitrosothiol and termed Bi–SNO NPs. X-rays break down the S–N bond and simultaneously trigger large amount of NO-releasing (over 60 μM). Moreover, the as-prepared Bi–SNO NPs not only possess the capability of absorbing and converting 808 nm NIR photons into heat for photothermal therapy, but also have the ability to increase X-ray absorption and CT imaging sensitivity. In addition, the collaborative radio-, photothermal-, and gas-therapy of Bi–SNO in vivo was further investigated and remarkable synergistic tumor inhibition was realized. Finally, no obvious toxicity of Bi–SNO NPs was observed in the treated mice within 14 days. Therefore, the Bi–SNO developed in this work is an effective nano-agent for cancer theranostics with well-controlled morphology and uniform size (36 nm), which could serve as a versatile CT imaging-guided combined radio-, photothermal- and gas-therapy nanocomposite with negligible side effects.

Catalysis oxidization has been known to be an effective technique in environmental remediation. However, low efficiency for oxygen activation and difficult recovery of the catalysts in powdery form significantly limit the practical application. In this work, a new-type monolithic α-Ni(OH)2/Ni-foam was fabricated by the hydrothermal process. We found that H atoms of α-Ni(OH)2 can significantly promote oxygen activation, which endows it with favorable NO and NO2 oxidization confirmed by theoretical calculation and in situ DRIFTS. Furthermore, the introduction of Ni foam accelerated the pollutant gas transfer and charge carriers’ separation because of its abundant porous structure and high conductivity and its monolithic property simplified the recycling operation. Consequently, the obtained α-Ni(OH)2/Ni-foam achieved an excellent NO oxidation (69.0%) and no toxic NO2 was detected under visible light illumination (λ > 420 nm), indicating its highly promising potential in environmental remediation. Our work provides a conceptually different fresh perception to promote oxygen activation for highly efficient gas purification.
