Pd nanoparticles stabilized by bitter gourd polysaccharide with peroxidase properties for H2O2 detection

Ruyu Li,Yu Zhao,Tingting Zhang,Zejin Ju,Xianbing Ji,Yanshuai Cui,Longgang Wang,Haiyan Xiao

The development of nanozymes using noble metal nanoparticles to replace natural peroxidase in bio-related detection has been gain great interest. Noble metal nanoparticles with small size have large specific surface area. However, small noble metal nanoparticles tend to aggregate without stabilizer. In this paper, small Pd nanoparticles (3–6 nm) stabilized by bitter gourd polysaccharide (Pd n -BGP NPs) were prepared by using bitter gourd polysaccharide as reducing agent and stabilizing agent. Pd 25 -BGP NPs had peroxidase-like catalytic property. And the catalytic kinetics of Pd 25 -BGP NPs towards substrates conformed to the Michaelis-Menten equation. Furthermore, a method was established to detect H 2 O 2 using Pd 25 -BGP NPs. The linear range and detection limit of this method was 20–320 μM and 2.04 μM, respectively. Finally, Pd 25 -BGP NPs had good biocompatibility when the concentration was less than 80 μg/mL. The prepared Pd nanoparticles with high stability showed their good prospect in H 2 O 2 detection.

Defect-dominated carbon deposited Pd nanoparticles enhanced catalytic performance of formic acid dehydrogenation

Wei Cheng,Xue Zhao,Hanyue Hu,Jiaqi Cai,Yi Wang,Xiangyang Liu,Donghui Xu,Wenxiu Luo,Guangyin Fan

The defect-rich characteristic nanostructure carbon favors the changing polarity and electron distribution in carbon matrix, thus facilitating an efficient adsorption of ions. Herein, a B,N,F-tridoped carbon material is successfully prepared on defect-rich sites by directly calcining two sodium salts, namely ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid tetrasodium salt (Na 4 EDTA) and ammonium tetrafluoroborate (NH 4 BF 4 ). B refers to electron-donating atoms while F and N are electron-accepting atoms. The co-existence of electron-donating and electron-accepting atoms causes an asymmetrical spin and charge density, favoring palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) well dispersed on the carbon matrix. The heteroatoms efficiently control over the growth of Pd NPs and regulate the internal electron density. The catalytic performance is significantly enhanced with the obtained Pd/BNF-C catalyst for formic acid dehydrogenation, which has a lower activation barrier (36.4 kJ/mol) and a better reusability than those of free-heteroatom catalysts. The efficiency might be attributed to the strong interaction between Pd NPs and heteroatoms, and the electrons transfer from carbon material to Pd NPs, with benefits including the significant coupling effect of B,N,F-tridoping down to the atomic scale, abundant surface active defects, in-plane nanopore defects and more adjacent metal active sites.

Interface engineering of polyaniline-functionalized porous Pd metallene for alkaline oxygen reduction reaction

Hongjing Wang,Wenxin Wang,Hongjie Yu,Qiqi Mao,You Xu,Xiaonian Li,Ziqiang Wang,Liang Wang

Engineering the interface between two-dimensional materials and polymers is of great importance to improve their catalytic performance for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Hence, polyaniline (PANI)-functionalized porous Pd metallene (Pd@PANI metallene) is prepared via a two-step strategy. Due to the ultrathin porous nanosheets and interfacial structure, the Pd@PANI metallene possesses sufficient active sites and optimized electronic structure, which exhibits superior oxygen reduction performance in alkaline electrolyte. The mass and specific activities for Pd@PANI metallene are measured to 1.79 A mg Pd −1 and 2.96 mA cm −2 , which are 11.9 and 9.30 times those of Pt/C (0.15 A mg Pd −1 and 0.32 mA cm −2 ), respectively. Additionally, the ORR performance and morphology of Pd@PANI metallene can be maintained after long-term stability testing, making it an excellent ORR catalyst. This work provides an effective interface engineering strategy to construct efficient two-dimensional ORR electrocatalysts to improve the performance.

Fengxia Wang,Hui Hu,Xin Feng,Xu Ding,Wei Wang,Ji Zhang

Concerning chemical hazards, natural materials-based fabrication is highly praised for their safer and environmental-friendly fabrication. In this study, Au and Pd were modified on Fe nanoparticles , which was reduced by tea polyphenols. The as-synthesized probe (Tp-Fe/AuPd), was applied for hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) detection. Physical characterizations showed that Au and Pd were successfully modified on the Fe nanoparticles surfaces. The electrochemical results showed that, Tp-Fe/AuPd demonstrated good anti-interference capacity, long-term stability and high sensitivity of 4.17 μA mM −1 cm −2 . Further, the probe can detect H 2 O 2 within concentration range of 0.1–10 mM, and an estimated limit of detection (LOD) of 9.53 mM, without the addition of enzymes or other extraneous materials.

Novel Complex of PD-L1 Aptamer and Albumin Enhances Antitumor Efficacy In Vivo

Yacong An,Xundou Li,Fengjiao Yao,Jinhong Duan,Xian-Da Yang

The PD-1/PD-L1 pathway blockade can generate a good clinical response by reducing immunosuppression and provoking durable antitumor immunity. In addition to antibodies, aptamers can also block the interaction between PD-1 and PD-L1. For the in vivo application, however, free aptamers are usually too small in size and quickly removed from blood via glomerular filtration. To avoid renal clearance of aptamer, we conjugated the PD-L1 aptamer to albumin to form a larger complex (BSA-Apt) and evaluated whether BSA-Apt would enhance the in vivo antitumor efficacy. The PD-L1 aptamer was thiol-modified and conjugated to the amino group of BSA via a SMCC linker. The average size of BSA-Apt was 11.65 nm, which was above the threshold for renal clearance. Functionally, BSA-Apt retained the capability of the PD-L1 aptamer to bind with PDL1-expressing tumor cells. Moreover, both the free aptamer and BSA-Apt augmented the PBMC-induced antitumor cytotoxicity in vitro. Furthermore, BSA-Apt generated a significantly stronger antitumor efficacy than the free PD-L1 aptamer in vivo without raising systemic toxicity. The results indicate that conjugating the PD-L1 aptamer to albumin may serve as a promising strategy to improve the in vivo functionality of the aptamer and that BSA-Apt may have application potential in cancer immunotherapy.Keywords:PD-L1;aptamer;albumin;BSA-Apt;cancer;immunotherapy

High performance H2 sensor based on rGO-wrapped SnO2–Pd porous hollow spheres

Tong Qiu,Shiyu Zhou,Jiapeng Ji,Gu Wu,Wenjun Yan,Min Ling,Chengdu Liang

Hydrogen (H 2 ) sensors based on metal oxide semiconductors (MOS) are promising for many applications such as a rocket propellant, industrial gas and the safety of storage. However, poor selectivity at low analyte concentrations, and independent response on high humidity limit the practical applications. Herein, we designed rGO-wrapped SnO 2 –Pd porous hollow spheres composite (SnO 2 –Pd@rGO) for high performance H 2 sensor. The porous hollow structure was from the carbon sphere template. The rGO wrapping was via self-assembly of GO on SnO 2 -based spheres with subsequent thermal reduction in H 2 ambient. This sensor exhibited excellently selective H 2 sensing performances at 390 °C, linear response over a broad concentration range (0.1–1000 ppm) with recovery time of only 3 s, a high response of ∼8 to 0.1 ppm H 2 in a minute, and acceptable stability under high humidity conditions (e. g. 80%). The calculated detection limit of 16.5 ppb opened up the possibility of trace H 2 monitoring. Furthermore, this sensor demonstrated certain response to H 2 at the minimum concentration of 50 ppm at 130 °C. These performances mainly benefited from the special hollow porous structure with abundant heterojunctions , the catalysis of the doped-PdO x , the relative hydrophobic surface from rGO, and the deoxygenation after H 2 reduction.

Concerted catalysis of Ni-Pd/GO for selective nitriles hydrogenation to secondary amines

Yushan Yang,Shaoyu Yuan,Heli Pan,Zixuan Li,Zejiang Li,Sufang Sun,Yongjun Gao

A novel explosion-assistant strategy was developed to fabricate graphene oxide supported nickel and palladium three-component catalyst Pd/Ni/NiO/GO for hydrogenation of nitriles to secondary amines. The explosion during the synthesis of catalyst was essential to the well-dispersion of palladium and the decomposition of metal salt precursors. Palladium component was well anchored on nickel oxide and graphene oxide sheets, which regulated the catalytic performance of palladium. This special structure facilitated the spillover of active hydrogen species generated on palladium component to nickel (oxide) and graphene oxide sheets, enhancing the catalytic activity of the bimetallic catalyst. This work developed an effective strategy to fabricate multi-component metal catalyst with low-cost transition metal as main composition for selective hydrogenation of nitriles to secondary amines.

Silanized Graphene Oxide-Supported Pd Nanoparticles and Silicone Rubber for Enhanced Hydrogen Elimination

Yu Wang,Tao Xing,Yongqi Deng,Kefu Zhang,Yihan Wu,Lifeng Yan

Hydrogen is a dangerous gas because it reacts very easily with oxygen to explode, and the accumulation of hydrogen in confined spaces is a safety hazard. Composites consisting of polymers and catalysts are a common getter, where the commonly used catalyst is usually commercial Pd/C. However, it often shows poor compatibility with polymers, making it difficult to form a homogeneous and stable composite. In this work, palladium chloride (PdCl2) was converted to palladium (Pd) nanoparticles by reduction reaction and supported on graphene oxide (GO) modified by silanization. Spherical Pd nanoparticles with a size of 2–36 nm were uniformly distributed over the Silanized graphene oxide (SGO) matrix. When mixed with Pd/SGO, polymethylvinylsiloxane can be cured to silicone rubber (SR) by B2O3. Afterwards, the vinyl in the polymer can interact with hydrogen under the catalysis of Pd through the addition reaction, thus achieving the purpose of hydrogen elimination. The polymer elastomers with excellent self-healing properties and improved hydrogen elimination performance were prepared and were superior to the commercial Pd/C. In addition, excellent environmental adaptability was also demonstrated. The new getter SR-Pd/SGO provides a new avenue for developing polymer getters with superior properties. Keywords:polysiloxane;modified graphene;hydrogen getter;self-healing

A Z-scheme Pd modified ZnIn2S4/P25 heterojunction for enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Ziyu Xie,Jing Chen,Yanxin Chen,Tianming Wang,Xia Jiang,Yiming Xie,Can-Zhong Lu

Pd modified ZnIn 2 S 4 /P25 (Pd@ZnIn 2 S 4 /P25) heterostructures have been synthesized by hydrothermal and photo-reduction method. The H 2 evolution rate of optimal photocatalyst 0.5 %Pd modified 5ZnIn 2 S 4 /2P25 (0.5 %Pd@5ZnIn 2 S 4 /2P25) are approximately 9100 and 3693 μmol · g −1 h −1 under simulated sunlight and visible light irradiation with ethanol as the sacrificial agent, which are nearly 9 and 460 times higher than pure ZnIn 2 S 4 and P25, respectively. The promoted photocatalytic performance can be attributed to the physicochemical properties of the catalysts and the strong electronic interaction between Pd modified ZnIn 2 S 4 (Pd@ZnIn 2 S 4 ) and P25, the improved transfer rate of photo-generated electrons and holes, the inhibited recombination of charge carriers, and the enhanced light harvesting. The results of photo-electrochemistry and EPR indicate that it is a Z-scheme photocatalytic system, in which the electrons accumulate on the conduct band of ZnIn 2 S 4 and the holes assemble on the valence band of P25. This work provides an effective method to construct highly efficient photocatalytic systems for solar H 2 generation.

Triclosan detoxification through dechlorination and oxidation via microbial Pd-NPs under aerobic conditions

Yuan Chen,Yuancai Chen,Jianbo Jia,Bing Yan

The present study focuses on the successful preparation of microbial palladium nanoparticles (Pd-NPs). The even distribution of Pd in the periplasmic space of B. megaterium Y-4 cells is characterized using a transmission electronic microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) revealed the domination of Pd (0) in Pd-NPs. The microbial Pd-NPs were selected to detoxify triclosan (TCS). Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) was used to analyze the intermediate products of dechlorination and oxidization. Free radicals quenching and 5,5-dimethyl-1-pyrroline N-oxide (DMPO) capturing experiments confirmed the crucial contribution of atomic H• and O 2 ·– to TCS degradation. Besides, TCS degradation by microbial Pd-NPs could alleviate the cytotoxicity of TCS polluted water. Meanwhile, great circulating utilization of microbial Pd-NPs was obtained in degrading TCS. Corresponding findings in the present study could provide new insight into the role of microbial Pd-NPs in detoxifying pollutants.

Electrochemical Degradation of 4-Fluorophenol in a Moveable Pd-Polypyrrole Catalyst-Mediated Reactor

Yang Yadan,Wei Xuefeng,Miao Juan,Zhang Ruichang,Xu Hang,Liu Junhui,Zhu Shufa

Electrochemical redox is an effective method to degrade halogenated organic pollutants (HOPs). Herein, highly dispersed Pd-polypyrrole (Pd-PPy) catalysts were synthesized by a facile one-step polymerization method. The morphology and phase structure of the catalysts were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The electrochemical redox of 4-fluorophenol (4-FP) was conducted in a single-chamber reactor with Pd-PPy as a moveable catalyst. The effects of the initial solution pH, constant current, and supporting electrolyte on the degradation of 4-FP were investigated. The removal efficiency of 4-FP was 84.6% after 2 h under an initial solution pH of 2.5 and an applied current density of 2.0 mA/cm 2 . The mechanism of 4-FP degradation was inferred, including the defluorination of 4-FP on the cathode and oxidation of 4-FP and phenol on the anode. The degradation of 4-FP in the Pd-PPy-mediated reactor showed lower energy consumption and higher removal efficiency. The degradation efficiency of 4-FP had almost no change after 20 cycles of experiments, which indicates the good durability of the prepared Pd-PPy catalysts. Graphical abstract

(Pd, Au, Ag) nanoparticles decorated well-ordered macroporous carbon for electrochemical sensing applications

Shuang Dong,Zhou Yang,Baoliang Liu,Jintao Zhang,Peng Xu,Meng Xiang,Tong Lu

The research and develpoment of biomass waste derived carbon materials have attracted tremendous research interests in fabrication of high performance electrochemical sensors. In this work, noble metal NPs (i.e., Pd, Au and Ag) loading on Loofah sponge-derived well-ordered macroporous carbon (OMC)/ N -doped carbon thin layer (N-C) was designed by a general approach. This polydopamine (PDA)-based method has the advantages of simplicity, high efficiency and versatility. In virtue of the synergistic contribution from 3D macroporous carbon scaffold and highly active nobel metal NPs, these as-prepared Pd@OMC/N-C, Au@OMC/N-C and Ag@OMC/N-C electrode exhibit excellent electrochemical sensing performances for H 2 O 2 reduction, glucose oxidation and nitrite oxidation, respectively. Thus, 3D OMC/N-C loaded noble metal nanoparticles are promising materials for a wide spectrum of electrochemical sensor and biosensor applications.
