Immunoassays facilitate a wide range of rapid, simple and sensitive biochemical detection analyses. We developed a signal-off tuned signal-on (SF-T-SN) colorimetric immunoassay for the detection of the antiviral drug, amantadine (AMD). Using this strategy, the conventional competitive signal-off immunoassay acts as a foundation to induce different immune recognition events in the absence and presence of AMD. The introduction of activity-metal modulated peroxidase-mimicking nanozymes converts the conventional signal-off model to a signal-on model, thereby facilitating drug detection, and overcoming disadvantages with natural enzymes. Importantly, due to switching of the reporting mechanism, and the high catalytic activity of the nanozyme, this “off-to-on” pathway makes the nanozyme-based colorimetric signal proportional to AMD concentrations, thereby circumventing the inherent drawbacks of limited signaling abilities and sensitivities with conventional signal-off immunoassay-based small molecule detection systems. AMD concentrations can be read by the eye or by the optical signals. Based on this protocol, system sensitivity (0.195 ng mL −1 AMD for the naked eye, and 0.134 ng mL −1 AMD for optical detection) not only outperformed reported methods, but it dramatically improved the naked eye observations and UV–vis measurements, when compared with conventional signal-off immunoassays. AMD concentrations spiked into chicken samples were also detected with acceptable recoveries, and relative standard derivations (RSD), indicating this method is highly applicable for biochemical analyses and food safety monitoring.

Tetravalent Sn species, such as zeolite or oxide, possess Lewis acidic properties, and thus exhibit prominent catalytic performance in several reactions when they are incorporated into the silica framework. Unfortunately, the synthesis of Sn-based zeolite (Sn–Beta) usually suffers from several drawbacks, including a long crystallization time, limited framework Sn content and complex synthesis steps. Sn-based composite oxides are favored in the industry, due to their simple synthesis steps and easy control of their pore structure, morphology and Sn content. In this work, an aerosol-assisted method is used to prepare Sn–Si composite oxide microspheres, using CTAB as template. The method is based on the formation of aerosol from a solution of Sn, Si precursors and a template (CTAB). The introduction of CTAB causes the surface tension of the atomized droplets to decrease. During the fast drying of the droplets, the Sn–Si composite oxide microspheres with a concave hollow morphology were first formed. After calcination, calibrated mesopores of 2.3 nm were also formed, with a specific surface area of 1260 m2/g and a mesopores ratio of 0.84. Sn species are incorporated in the silica network, mainly in the form of single sites. The resulting material proved to exhibit high catalytic performances in the Baeyer–Villiger oxidation of 2-adamantanone by using H2O2as green oxidant, which was mainly attributed to the enhancement of the access to the catalytic tin sites through both the continuous hollow and mesopore channels, which have a 52% conversion of 2-adamantanone after 3 h of reaction. This method is simple, convenient, cheap and can be continuously produced, meaning it has broad potential for industrial application. Keywords:aerosol process;Sn–Si composite oxide;hollow mesoporous microspheres;CTAB;Baeyer–Villiger oxidation

Acrylonitrile wastewater was an organic wastewater with strong toxicity and poor biodegradability. Therefore, electro-catalytic technology became a promising acrylonitrile wastewater treatment technology because of no secondary pollution, wide application range and low water quality requirements. The optimal Mn-Sn modified Ru-Ir electrode material was synthesized by thermal method and applied in electro-catalytic treatment of acrylonitrile wastewater. The electrode materials were characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS and electrochemical characterization. SEM, TEM, XRD and XPS indicated that Mn and Sn were capable of incorporating and replacing the part of Ru or Ir and could alter the microstructure of Ru-Ir and the types of Mn and Sn oxides, raising the oxygen evolution potential (OEP) and voltampere charge. When the molar ratio of Mn-Sn was 1:1, OEP, voltampere charge and exchange current density could reach 1.303 V, 1.51 C/cm2 and 6.29×10-4 A/cm2, respectively. The co-doping of Mn-Sn had significant influence on the electrocatalytic performance of Ru-Ir electrode materials. The optimum synthesis conditions of Mn-Sn modified Ru-Ir electrode were as follows: the molar ratio of Mn-Sn was 1:1, calcination time was 4.0 hours, calcination temperature was 450℃, and solvent was water. Under certain conditions, the removal rate of acrylonitrile with Mn-Sn modified Ru-Ir electrode was 100%. Mn-Sn modified Ru-Ir electrode had high oxygen evolution potential and good removal effect of acrylonitrile, which was higher than that of ruthenium iridium electrode and RuO2 electrode.

Cu 3 SbSe 4 -based thermoelectric materials , known for their complex crystal structure and splendid Seebeck coefficient , have garnered significant attention. However, a major challenge in this field is further enhancing the thermoelectric performance while effectively controlling the carrier concentration. In this work, a novel doping strategy is proposed to effectively adjust the energy band structure by Mn doping while simultaneously increasing the carrier concentration and the effective mass of the density of states , thereby optimizing the power factor. Additionally, Sn doping is employed to boost the carrier concentration significantly while strengthening the covalent bonds , thereby improving the samples’ stability. As a result, the Cu 3 Sb 0.92 Mn 0.06 Sn 0.02 Se 4 sample achieves a zT value of 0.74 at 673 K. Moreover, the Cu 3 Sb 0.93 Mn 0.06 Sn 0.01 Se 4 sample exhibits an average zT value of 0.39 within the temperature range of 273–675 K. This research sheds light on an approach for designing high-performance Cu 3 SbSe 4 -based thermoelectric materials by manipulating the carrier concentration and enhancing the covalent bond strength through doping.

TiO 2 @Sn(Sb)O 2 core–shell composites (TiO 2 @SnO 2 , TiO 2 @Sb 2 O 4 and TiO 2 @Sb-SnO 2 ) have been prepared through a chemical co-precipitation method with a calcination process. The mixture hydrolysates of SnCl 4 and SbCl 3 have been deposited on the surface of TiO 2 as the precursor. These hydrolysates have been converted to Sn(Sb)O 2 particles, leading to the formation of the TiO 2 @Sn(Sb)O 2 core–shell structure. Their electrochemical performances and electrocatalytic degradation efficiencies of methylene blue (MB) have been investigated. It is found that TiO 2 @Sb-SnO 2 electrode presents a larger effective electrocatalytic area and more electroactive sites, which provide more contact points between the pollutant and electrode and enhance electrocatalytic oxidation activity. The TiO 2 @Sb-SnO 2 electrode exhibits a higher degradation efficiency (97.6%) than that of TiO 2 @SnO 2 (80.1%) and TiO 2 @Sb 2 O 4 (34.9%). The TiO 2 @Sb-SnO 2 electrode provides a 91.1% degradation efficiency after five cycles test, indicating a high stability during degradation process. These results show that the as-prepared TiO 2 @Sb-SnO 2 electrode can provide a promising application to treat dye wastewater, which relies on its core–shell structure.

Ni–Fe–Sn electrocatalyst supported on nickel foam (Ni–Fe–Sn/NF) with high efficiency of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) has been successfully fabricated through one-step potentiostatic electrodeposition route. The optimized Ni–Fe–Sn/NF displayed an extremely low overpotential of, respectively, 144 and 180 mV at 50 and 100 mA cm −2 for HER in alkaline condition. Moreover, it could retain its superior stability for at least 12 h. The remarkable electrocatalytic activity of our electrocatalyst is ascribed to the high conductivity originated from synergistic effects between Ni, Fe, and Sn during HER process.

Constructing bimetallic carbon-based electrocatalysts of rational geometric structures has been an efficient method to improve the kinetics of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The reasonably designed bimetallic carbon-based electrocatalysts have low-cost and high electrocatalytic efficiency, which are promising to replace the platinum catalysts. Herein, the Sn/Mo 2 C composite nanoparticles were encapsulated in carbon nanofibers of a 2D structure (Sn/Mo 2 C-CNFs) have been successfully fabricated by a simple electrospinning and carbonization process. As a result, after turned the ratio of Sn and Mo 2 C into 1:3, the Sn/Mo 2 C-CNFs showed a superior HER performance with an overpotential of 144 mV in the current density of 10 mA⋅cm −2 in alkaline medium, the Tafel slope of 49.8 mV⋅dec -1 , and operated stably for 60 h and 5000 circles. These excellent properties were mainly attributed to the special nanofiber structure and the synergism of Sn and Mo 2 C that enhanced the active sites and weakened the binding force of H proton and Mo 2 C. The present work provides an uncomplicated, efficient, and low-cost train of thought for resolving the problem of replacing the Pt-based catalysts with bimetallic materials.

Selective conversion of cellulose into high value-added C3 chemicals is a great challenge in biorefinery due to the complicated reaction process. In this work, 61.6% yield of acetol was obtained by one pot conversion of cellulose using Ni–Sn/SiO2 catalysts. A series of characterization methods including TEM, STEM-HAADF, EDS, AAS, XRD, XPS, H2-TPR, Py-FTIR, and CO2-TPD were carried out to explore the structure–activity relationship. The strong basicity of the catalysts was a key factor affecting the production of acetol. In addition, catalysts with the hydrothermally stable L-acid sites and no B-acid sites inhibited side reactions and ensured efficient conversion of cellulose into small molecules. Further studies showed that the formation of the Ni3Sn4 alloy significantly promoted the acetol production, and its weak hydrogenation activity inhibited further conversion of acetol. Noninteger valence tin species (Snδ+ and SnOx) were formed both in Ni3Sn4 and Sn/SiO2. These Sn species were the source of basic sites and the active sites for catalyzing cellulose to acetol. Under the synergistic catalysis of Sn/SiO2 and the Ni3Sn4 alloy, cellulose was efficiently converted into acetol. This work provides guidance for the selective conversion of cellulose into C3 products.

Herein, we report the bimetallic (Sn,Zn)(O,S) oxysulfide nanocatalyst with a facile method. The Sn-based catalyst with the addition of Zn was synthesized with the proportions of 0, 20, 30 and 50% of Zn to Sn precursors for preparation. The catalysts were characterized by XRD , TEM , SEM XPS , and UV–vis instruments. The nanocatalysts were also tested for the detoxification of Cr +6 . The Sn-20 catalyst with 20 M percent of Zn(Ac) 2 ·2H 2 O showed an excellent performance for the induced photocatalytic reduction of Cr +6 under visible light irradiation at room temperature. The complete reduction of Cr +6 was achieved within 80 min by Sn-20 catalyst. However, 85.6, 97, and 94% of Cr +6 reductions were achieved within 80 min under visible light illumination by Sn-0, Sn-30, and Sn-50 catalysts, respectively. Hence, the bimetallic (Sn,Zn)(O,S) oxysulfide nanocatalyst will be a candidate and highly potential material for the detoxification of Cr(VI)-containing polluted water.

Low-cost and highly efficient electrocatalysts are highly desirable to improve the efficiency of water splitting for oxygen evolution. In this work, a self-supported ternary Ni–Fe–Sn film on three dimensional nickel foam, which is prepared through a simple electrodeposition method, is investigated as oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalyst. The Ni–Fe–Sn film displays a considerably low overpotential of 253 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm −2 and a small Tafel slope of 61.5 mV dec −1 and excellent long-term stability for OER in 30% KOH aqueous solution. The good OER performance of Ni–Fe–Sn film may originate from its high electrochemical active surface area, rapid electron/proton and mass transfers, and the close combination between Ni–Fe–Sn film and nickel foam. This work provides a guideline to develop the low-cost and efficient earth-abundant OER anodes.

This study presents a nanostructured Sn/SnO x @Ti 3 C 2 composite by in-situ growth of Sn/SnO x nanoparticles on the interlayer of 2D MXene (Ti 3 C 2 T x ) nanosheets through facile electrostatic attraction and liquid phase reduction. X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy results illustrate that Sn/SnO x nanoparticles are uniformly distributed into the MXene (Ti 3 C 2 T x ) interlayer, forming a sandwich-like nanostructured composite. MXene (Ti 3 C 2 T x ) nanosheets suppress Sn/SnO x nanoparticles’ volume expansion and agglomeration and accelerate the Li-ion and electron transition due to the distinguished confinement effect and excellent graphite-like layered structure. Furthermore, Sn/SnO x nanoparticles are embedded as pillars to enhance the longitudinal structural stability of MXene matrix by preventing the re-stacking of nanosheets during lithium insertion/extraction. The nanosized particles still reduce lithium migration path and increase active areas. Therefore, the Sn/SnO x @Ti 3 C 2 composite maintains 594.2 mAh g −1 after 200 cycles with a capacity recovery after 100 cycles. The synergistic effect of Sn/SnO x on MXene facilitates Sn/SnO x @Ti 3 C 2 nanostructures , thereby exhibiting excellent electrochemical properties for lithium-ion batteries.

Controlled silver chloride (0.01–0.50 mol%) and tin co-doped micro-spherical titania (AgCl@Sn-TiO 2 ) with enhanced visible range absorption is prepared through hydrothermal synthesis. Multi-element doped rutile TiO 2 nanocrystalline electron transporting layer (ETL) in perovskite solar cell (PSC) is reported for the first time, which uplifts the photovoltaic performance comparing with undoped TiO 2 electrodes. Theoretical DFT studies, investigating the change in electronic density of states with respect to the doping are performed. An optimum efficiency of 10.4% was achieved for 0.01% doped AgCl@Sn-TiO 2 , which provided highest efficiency with higher stability over 650 h comparing to undoped TiO 2 (10.0%) ETL based PSC prepared under the same ambient conditions. This report proves that, the AgCl@Sn-TiO 2 is one of the efficient materials having good potential for application in photoenergy conversion devices and may provide new insight into the design of advanced perovskite solar cells with titania based electron transport materials.
