Dodecahedral imidazolium framework-67 (ZIF-67) is synthesized in aqueous solution and used as a sacrificial template for the synthesis of uniform three-dimensional (3-D) hierarchical hexagonal flower-like nickel–cobalt layered double hydroxides (NiCo-LDH) by facile hydrothermal treatment. TEM and SEM results reveal that each microflower is composed of abundant two-dimensional (2D) ultrathin wrinkled nanosheets. The induction of 2,3,5,6-terafluroterephthalic acid (H 2 tfbdc) and hexamethylenetetramine (HMT) as an additive along with nickel nitrate hexahydrate plays a vital role to tune uniform hierarchical morphology and augmented electrochemical performance. The supercapacitor performance results show that (NiCo-LDH)S HH electrode has the best supercapacitor performance when it is used as a pseudo-capacitor. The maximum specific capacitance is 1765 F g −1 at the current density of 1 A g −1 with stable cycling performance. An asymmetric supercapacitor device assembled using (NiCo-LDH)S HH as the positive and activated carbon (AC) as the negative electrode attains a high energy density of 53.31 Wh kg −1 at a power density of 749.7 W kg −1 with 84.3% capacitance retention after 6000 cycles. This work provides a novel route for the design and synthesis of two-component hydrotalcite with 2D nanosheets having a large interlayer spacing of 9.3 d(Å) and its potential application in electrochemical energy storage.

Herein, a new electrochemical aptasensor was developed for the highly selective and sensitive detection of thiamethoxam (TMX). Co-N doped porous carbon (Co N C) was first modified on the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) as a conductive substrate. Then, nickel hexacyanoferrate nanoparticles (NiHCFNPs) were drop-coated on Co N C as signal probes to generate measurable redox peaks. Benefiting from the superior structural features and catalytic activity, Co N C not only facilitated the immobilization of NiHCFNPs, but also exhibited good catalytic activity for the redox of NiHCFNPs, thus clearly amplifying the sensing signal. Subsequently, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were deposited on NiHCFNPs/Co N C/GCE to anchor the aptamer of TMX. When TMX was captured onto the sensor via specific affinity of the aptamer, the formed TMX-Apt complex impeded electron transfer, resulting in a decrease in the peak current. Thus, TMX can be easily detected by measuring the change in peak current. The label-free aptasensor displays high sensitivity to TMX with a quite low LOD of 3.65 × 10 -3 μg/L. The acceptable recoveries of environmental water and potato samples varied from 94.05 % to 105.20 %, demonstrating the proposed aptasensor will be a promising tool for the highly sensitive, specific and reliable detection of TMX in both environmental and food matrices.

Photocatalytic hydrogen production technology is an effective method for solving environmental pollution problems and obtaining renewable energy. In order to improve the efficiency of hydrogen production , the development of new photocatalysts with high activity and stability remains a great challenge. In this work, we report the formation of CoS/Mn 0·2 Cd 0·8 S heterostructures by combining ZIF-67-derived CoS with Mn 0·2 Cd 0·8 S using a template method and exhibiting excellent photocatalytic hydrogen production performance. Systematic studies have shown that the CoS/Mn 0·2 Cd 0·8 S heterostructure has a strong light-trapping ability, which enhances charge separation and transfer due to its abundant reactive sites and heterostructure. The photocatalytic hydrogen production rate under visible light conditions was 43.7 mmol g −1 h −1 , which was 43.7 and 14.1 times higher than that of pure CoS and pure Mn 0·2 Cd 0·8 S, respectively. Importantly, the photocatalytic performance remained essentially unchanged after four cycles. In addition, the internal space of CoS/Mn 0·2 Cd 0·8 S can be effectively utilized to provide abundant reaction sites, which further promotes the photocatalytic hydrogen production.

Substrate materials with high sensitivity and storage stability are crucial for the practical analytical application of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) techniques. In this work, a SERS-active substrate (Si/Au@Ag/ZIF-67) was fabricated with a metal–organic framework (ZIF-67) on a plasmonic surface (Si/Au@Ag) via self-assembly. The as-prepared material combined the properties of the abundant hotspots of the Au@Ag nanoparticles and the excellent adsorption performance of ZIF-67 for organic molecules. The synergy leads to high sensitivity of the composite substrate with a low detection limit for 4-aminothiophenol (a typical Raman reporter molecule) down to 2.0 × 10−9 M and the analytical enhancement factor (AEF) of the SERS substrate is 3.4 × 106. Moreover, the substrates exhibited good repeatability, high reproducibility, and reliable stability due to the MOF coating. The SERS signal was stable after 60 days of storage at room temperature. Ultimately, the optimal Si/Au@Ag/ZIF-67 was applied as a SERS sensor to analyze thiram, and the results showed a linear concentration range from 10−7 to 10−5 M with good linearity (R2 = 0.9934). The recoveries of thiram in spiked apple juice were in the range of 95.7–102.3%, with relative standard deviations less than 4.3%. These results predict that the proposed SERS substrates may hold great potential for the detection of environmental and food pollution in practical applications.

Designing hierarchical micro/nanostructures on the surface of a membrane to endow it with underwater superoleophobic properties and oil-fouling resistance, poses a considerable challenge. In this study, we propose an elaborate method for depositing layered double hydroxides (LDHs) on a ZIF-67 surface grown along nanofibers , resulting in a nanoflower-branched nanofibrous membrane (ZnCo-LDH@PAN) with an abundant cavity structure. The ZnCo-LDH@PAN membrane exhibited excellent mechanical and superdrophilic/underwater superoleophobic properties, reaching an outstanding separation efficiency (>99.0 %) for crude oil emulsion and various sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) stabilized oil/water emulsions, and a separation flux of up to 5434.8 L m −2 h −1 under a low-pressure drive. In the continuous separation of 1700 mL emulsion, the efficiency remained relatively stable, and the FRR (flux recovery rate) can be as high as 97.8 %. Further, the ZnCo-LDH@PAN membrane exhibited good mechanical and chemical stabilities. Overall, this study presents an advanced approach for designing separation membranes by combining LDHs with nanofiber-derived materials.

In recent years, the excellent pore volume, huge specific surface area, and easy functionalizable zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs), as new type of porous materials, attracted the attention of scientists. In this work, the new Co-based trimetallic Cu-Ni@ZIF-67 was synthesized using embedded the Cu-Ni precursor in ZIF-67. The structure, morphology and properties of Cu-Ni@ZIF-67 was characterized by the various analysis. The catalytic performance of Cu-Ni@ZIF-67 was investigated for tetracycline (TC) degradation and nitroarenes reduction at room temperature. The resultant catalyst was demonstrated excellent TC degradation efficiency by persulfate (PS) activation in the water during 30 min, and Cu-Ni@ZIF-67 was displayed superior catalytic activity for nitroarenes reduction in the presence of NaBH 4 . Comparing catalytic activity of Cu-Ni@ZIF-67 with Cu/ZIF-67, Ni/ZIF-67, Cu-Ni and ZIF-67 indicated higher activity of Cu-Ni@ZIF-67. Moreover, the recyclability and stability of this catalyst were surveyed.

Incorporating metal compound nanoparticles into zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) has emerged as an effective way to solve the low conductivity issue of ZIFs, helping to boost their electrochemical performance. However, the resultant ZIFs/metal compound composites usually lack hierarchical pores, which causes the electrochemical performance to be far below expectations. Here, two rational post-treating strategies, namely, Ni2+/H2O etching and solvent-assisted etching, have been proposed to tailor the structure and composition of ZIF-67/Ni3S4 composite. Especially, Ni2+/H2O etching enables the self-transformation of ZIF-67 to CoNi layered double hydroxide (LDH), while solvent-assisted etching creates hierarchical pores in ZIF-67. After post-treatments, both resultant samples display significant improvements in energy storage capability and cycling lifespan as compared to untreated ZIF-67/Ni3S4 owing to their superior features including the hierarchical pore structure, enhanced pseudocapacitance property, and less internal and charge transfer resistance. The tailoring strategies together with mechanism studied here can provide perspectives and constructive designing knowledge to promote the widespread use of ZIFs or Ni3S4 based advanced electrodes toward high-performance supercapacitors.

Fabricating photocatalysts with customizable structure and composition using different metal–organic framework (MOF) building blocks has intriguing implications in chemistry and material science, but it is challenging to do so. Here, a two-step synthetic strategy was designed to prepare MIL-125(Ti)@TiO2 hollow nanodiscs decorated with Co3S4 nanoparticles for CO2 photoreduction. The Co-based zeolite imidazolium ester backbone (ZIF-67) nanolayer was first loaded on the prepared MIL-125(Ti) nanodiscs to form core@shell MIL-125(Ti)@ZIF-67 nanodiscs. The following sulfidation process under solvothermal condition led to the production of MIL-125(Ti)@TiO2 hollow nanodiscs decorated with Co3S4 nanoparticles (MIL-125(Ti)@TiO2\Co3S4). This ternary hybrid catalyst with hollow nanodisc structure possessed a significantly enhanced charge separation efficiency and visible light absorption, along with offering a huge number of active sites. Considering the above advantages, the CO2 photoreduction activity of the optimized MIL-125(Ti)@TiO2\Co3S4 catalyst was significantly increased when compared to single-component catalysts (MIL-125(Ti), TiO2, and Co3S4) and binary hybrid catalysts (MIL-125(Ti)@TiO2 and TiO2\Co3S4) under simulated sunlight irradiation. CO is the main product with a productivity of 587.50 μmol g−1 h−1, which is almost seven times higher than that of pure MIL-125(Ti). The potential photocatalytic mechanism of the hybrid photocatalyst has also been demonstrated. This study presents a simple and effective technique for fabricating MOF-based hybrid catalysts for photocatalytic applications.

Highly efficient Pd@CN catalysts for selective hydrogenation of phenol to cyclohexanone in water were successfully fabricated by loading Pd nanoparticles (NPs) in N-doped carbons (CN) derived from ZIF-67 with dicyandiamide (DICY) as the additional nitrogen source. For comparison, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was also used as the additional nitrogen source during the ZIF-67 synthesis. The results showed that the PVP and DICY had significantly different impacts on the microstructures of as-obtained CN materials and the catalytic performance of Pd@CN catalysts in the phenol hydrogenation. The addition of DICY had the positive promotion effect on the surface area of the obtained CN materials. Moreover, the introduction of DICY could increase the nitrogen content of CN and then prevent the re-oxidation of Pd NPs during air contact, resulting in higher Pd 0 ratio. In comparison with PVP, the DICY was more suitable as the additional nitrogen source for the formation of CN and Pd@CN (Pd@CN D , Pd@CN P ). The Pd@CN D exhibited superior catalytic activity as compared to Pd@CN P (phenol conversion 96.9% vs. 67.4%). More importantly, the as-prepared Pd@CN D catalyst could be reused for four times without catalytic performance reduction. The work would aid the development of Pd@CN catalysts with superior catalytic properties.

In the critical domain of wastewater treatment, the development of cost-effective, durable, and recyclable adsorbents with high adsorption capacities remains a significant challenge. This study introduces a novel magnetic bimetallic Metal–Organic Framework (MOF) adsorbent, MZIF-67-Co/Cu, doped with copper ions. The MZIF-67-Co/Cu adsorbent was successfully synthesized and structurally characterized, demonstrating remarkable selectivity for removing methyl orange (MO) from water. This high selectivity is attributed to the adsorbent’s high porosity and Lewis base properties at the coordinating metal ion center. The incorporation of Cu ions significantly enhances the porous architecture and increases the number of metal adsorption sites, leading to an impressive maximum MO adsorption capacity of 39.02 mg/g under optimized conditions (0.5 g/L adsorbent concentration, pH 3.0, 250 rpm agitation speed, adsorption time > 10 min). The adsorption kinetics closely follow the pseudo-second-order model, and the isotherm data fit well with the Langmuir model. The primary adsorption mechanisms involve electrostatic attraction and mesoporous interaction. This study highlights MZIF-67-Co/Cu as a highly efficient adsorbent with magnetic recovery capabilities, positioning it as a promising candidate for addressing critical issues in wastewater treatment.

Transition metal phosphides (TMPs) have emerged as promising candidates for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) due to their tunable phases and electronic structures. However, the development of bifunctional electrocatalysts that effectively balance HER and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) for overall water splitting presents a significant challenge. In this work, we report a novel cauliflower-like bimetallic phosphide, CoMo-P, synthesized on ZIF-67-derived NiCo layered double hydroxide (LDH) through a formic acid-assisted electrochemical phosphating process. This innovative approach not only enhances catalytic efficiency for both HER and OER but also offers a rapid, environmentally friendly, and straightforward fabrication method. The incorporation of formic acid during the electrodeposition process plays a crucial role in optimizing the catalyst's composition and microstructure. Specifically, formic acid facilitates the reduction rate of hypophosphite and stabilizes charged intermediates, thereby reducing the electrodeposition energy barrier and enhancing phosphating efficiency. As a result, the CoMo-P(NCL)/NF electrode demonstrates exceptional HER performance in alkaline media, achieving overpotentials of 55 mV and 108 mV at current densities of 10 and 50 mA cm ‑ 2 , respectively, significantly outperforming the control sample without formic acid addition (η 10 = 80.4 mV, η 50 = 142 mV). Moreover, the electrode exhibits remarkable OER activity with overpotentials of 273 mV and 310 mV at 10 and 50 mA cm ‑ 2 , respectively. When employed as a bifunctional catalyst for overall water splitting, the CoMo-P(NCL)/NF electrode pair requires a low cell voltage of 1.574 V to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm ‑ 2 , surpassing the performance of numerous reported bifunctional catalysts. This study provides a promising strategy for the rational design and practical application of high-performance bifunctional electrocatalysts in sustainable energy conversion systems.

In practical applications, high repetition frequency (HRF) lasers are widely used in the fields of material processing, laser communication and medical therapy. In this work, the passive harmonic mode-locked (HML) technique is used to realize a HRF fiber laser in GHz level, effectively overcoming the limitations of traditional fiber laser structures. In order to maximize the advantages of nanomaterials, we synthesized high-purity hollow MoS 2 -Co 3 S 4 heterojunction materials by hydrothermal method. Then, a “sandwich” structure saturable absorber (SA) was prepared by photodeposition, and its nonlinear optical properties were investigated. The results demonstrate that the modulation depth and saturation intensity of MoS 2 -Co 3 S 4 SA are 24 % and 4.53 MW/cm 2 , respectively. The fiber laser based on MoS 2 -Co 3 S 4 SA could realize the fundamental frequency mode-locked at 23.11 MHz with a pulse width of 0.99 ps. In addition, various high-order HML are realized with this laser system capable of stable operation for extended periods up to the highest repetition frequency of 1.109 GHz achieved thus far in this field. This research provides strong support to promote the development and commercialization of HRF fiber lasers.
