ZnS-MoS 2 solid solution anchored on reduced graphene oxide sheet (rGO/ZnS-MoS 2 ) was explored as novel visible-light-driven photocatalysts, and synthesized by solvent thermal method. The light absorption intensity of rGO/ZnS-MoS 2 was greatly strengthened, and rGO/ZnS-MoS 2 possess modulated continuous band gaps from 3.47 to 3.56 eV by changing the Zn/Mo ratios and rGO content. Their photocatalytic activities for 2-nitrophenol degradation are dependent on the chemical composition, and the optimal 11% rGO/ZnS-MoS 2 possessed the highest photocatalytic performance, which could be attributed to the most efficient charge separation, the largest specific area, and its optimized band structure. Moreover, 11% rGO/ZnS-MoS 2 can effectively treat real industrial effluent with 74.05% COD removal, and maintain long-term stability without obvious decline after five use cycle.

Photocatalytic degradation is an effective method for fast removal of dye-contaminated water. In the present work, a bismuth oxide/zinc sulfide-cellulose acetate photocatalytic membrane (Bi 2 O 3 /ZnS-CA) is successfully fabricated via the phase-inversion method with a Bi 2 O 3 /ZnS heterojunction as the photocatalyst. The Bi 2 O 3 /ZnS-CA membranes shows high photocatalytic activity in degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) under visible-light irradiation due to the Bi 2 O 3 /ZnS heterojunction structure contributing to the high efficiency of photogenerated charge separation. The photodegradation efficiency of Bi 2 O 3 /ZnS-CA membrane is significantly enhanced (about 30% improvement) and the photodegradation kinetic is four times faster than that of the Bi 2 O 3 -CA and the ZnS-CA membranes. Moreover, the Bi 2 O 3 /ZnS-CA membrane exhibits excellent permeation flux (649.7 L m −2 h −1 ) and high porosity (69.94%). The Bi 2 O 3 /ZnS-CA membrane also shows good adsorption performance of RhB, which could enhance the interaction between RhB and the catalyst. This work provides a new sight to construct highly effective visible-light-driven photocatalytic membranes for continuous organic dye treatment.

An enhanced near-infrared (NIR) FRET biosensing system based on the novel donor-acceptor pair (MnCuInS/ [email protected] and urchin-like Au NPs) was developed for the sensitive detection of HER2 protein. In this strategy, MnCuInS/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) were chosen due to their NIR emission, high quantum efficiency , and low toxicity. Amounts of MnCuInS/ZnS QDs were encapsulated in BSA to form MnCuInS/ [email protected] nanoparticles, which can easily transfer MnCuInS/ZnS QDs from organic phase into aqueous solution, and the formed nanoparticles were applied as the energy donor which significantly enhanced the fluorescence intensity . As for the energy acceptor, urchin-like Au nanoparticles (Au NPs) with novel structure, good stability and excellent quenching ability towards NIR fluorescence were selected. Thus, the NIR MnCuInS/ [email protected] and urchin-like Au NPs were designed as a novel donor-acceptor pair for FRET assay. By combining the optical advantages of NIR QDs encapsulated BSA nanoparticles with the excellent fluorescence quenching ability of urchin-like Au NPs, the proposed FRET-based biosensor realized enhanced FRET effect for highly sensitive detection of HER2 in human serum samples. A wide detection range (2–100 ng mL −1 ) and a low detection limit (1 ng mL −1 ) were obtained. This sensing system can decrease the interference of other biomolecules in NIR region, can be applied to other biomarker determination in vitro, and also shows great potential for in vivo diagnosis.

A ternary nanocomposite containing ZnO, ZnS and MoS2 (ZnMoNCs) has been firstly synthesized by Keggin-type polyoxomolybdate and ZIF-8 as starting materials to provide Mo and Zn sources simultaneously. As compared to the mono- or bi-component complex, ZnMoNCs present more sensitive and stable surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) activity. When rhodamine 6G is used as a probing molecule, the detection limit of 10−9 mol L−1 can be achieved on the ZnMoNC substrate with the enhancement factor (EF) of 1.4 × 108, which is the highest sensitivity among the known semiconductor SERS substrates. The increased adsorption sites and the synergistically improved charge transfer are conducive to the large enhancement of the SERS activity. It was also proved that the ZnMoNC substrate possesses high stability and self-cleaning properties, and can be reused in SERS detection without losing its activity even after 5 cycles. This work paves a new way to the design of new semiconductor SERS substrates by the utility of a multicomponent complex.

Nano-sized hollow spheres with tunable microstructures are urgently needed for their applications in advanced fields. The ZnS hollow spheres reported previously have usually required a complex multi-step process, and/or large size and/or less tunability in the microstructure. Here, a simple gelatin-assisted hydrothermal reaction of Zn(OAc)2 and thiourea was developed for the synthesis of ZnS hollow nanospheres. The size of the hollow spheres could be controlled below 100 nm with good homogeneity. The presence of gelatin is essential to decrease the size of ZnS particles and to form hollow structures. Only solid spheres with a large size were prepared in the absence of gelatin. The structure of hollow nanospheres could be regulated by altering the reaction parameters. Typically, the size of voids increases with prolonged reaction time. Also, the grain size of the hollow spheres increased with increasing reaction temperature (from about 3 nm to 10 nm) accompanied by a decrease in shell thickness. The results indicated that the hollow structure was formed through an “Ostwald ripening” process. The ZnS hollow nanospheres were used as catalyst for photocatalytic hydrogen production without additional co-catalyst. The maximum H2 production rate reached was 340 μmol h−1 (about 6.8 mmol h g).

A Mn-doped ZnS quantum dots (QDs) based nanosensor for selective phosphorescent determination of patulin (PAT) was synthesized with 6-hydroxynicotinic acid (6-HNA) as dummy template via a surface molecular imprinting sol–gel process. FTIR and XRD indicated the successful graft of molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) onto crystal QDs. Binding tests revealed that the MIP-QDs presented higher selectivity, adsorption capacity and mass transfer rate than non-imprinted polymers, demonstrating a specific recognition for PAT among competitive mycotoxins and its analogues with the imprinting factor of 2.02. The MIP-QDs could recognize PAT in a linear range of 0.43–6.50 μmol L −1 with a detection limit of 0.32 μmol L −1 and a correlation coefficient (R 2 ) of 0.9945. Recoveries of 102.9–127.2% with relative standard deviations <4.95% were achieved in apple juice samples which were in good agreement with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) (P > 0.05). The results indicated a simple phosphorescent nanosensor for PAT detection in complex matrix.

A novel molecularly imprinted optosensing material (MIOM) based on ionic liquid (IL)-stabilized CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) was prepared, for highly selective and sensitive recognition of the mycotoxin zearalenone (ZON). ZON is expensive and highly toxic, so the ZON analog cyclodo-decanyl-2,4-dihydroxybenzoate (CDHB) was instead used as the template. MIOM was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and adsorption experiment. Under optimal conditions, the relative fluorescence intensity of MIOM decreased linearly with increasing ZON concentration, in the range of 0.003–3.12 μmol L−1. MIOM had a detection limit of 0.002 μmol L−1. MIOM was used to detect ZON in corn, rice and wheat flours, and at three concentration levels 50, 100 and 500 ng g−1, ZON recoveries for these three cereals were 94.2–98.7%, 93.1–107.6% and 84.4–106.0%, respectively.

This study explored a simple and fast method utilizing ultraviolet (UV) irradiation to synthesize CdTe/CdS/ZnS QDs in aqueous solution. Based on the reaction of photolysis and chemical deposition, the CdS and ZnS shell can be successively deposited around the thiol-capped CdTe cores through the interaction of Cd2+/Zn2+ and S2− produced by UV irradiation. The effect of the UV irradiation time, the ratios of thioglycolic acid (TGA)/Cd and TGA/Zn on the shell formation, shell stability, and the photoluminescence (PL) intensity of the QDs, was systematically investigated. Keeping the ratio of TGA/Cd, increasing UV irradiation time from 30 to 120 s, the blue-shift of the fluorescence emission peak position of CdTe/CdS QDs was observed. As the irradiation time increased continuously from 120 to 300 s, the red-shift of the emission peak position was observed. In the total irradiation time, the PL intensity of all the samples was enhanced. By applying 300 s irradiation on the samples, the emission peak was blue-shifted at a fixed TGA/Cd ratio of 1:1 and red-shifted at the ratios of 2:1, 4:1, 8:1, and 13:1. The PL intensity reached its highest value at the ratio of 2:1. The effect of TGA/Zn ratio on ZnS shell formation showed a similar progress. Under an optimum synthesized reaction condition, the particle sizes of CdTe core, CdTe/CdS core–shell and CdTe/CdS/ZnS core–shell–shell QDs were 2.6 nm, 3.4 nm, and 4.6 nm respectively. This study confirmed that with the core–shell–shell structure, CdTe/CdS/ZnS QDs had high anti-oxidability, photostability, and low toxicity. Therefore they can be further used in cell imaging efficiently.

A signal-on solid-state electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor based on luminol@carbon nanotubes (luminol@CNTs) and CdTe-ZnS@hydroxyapatite (CdTe-ZnS@HAP) was constructed for the detection of paclitaxel (PTX). In this sensing platform, luminol was used as the main luminophore and CdTe-ZnS was used as a co-reaction accelerator. CNTs and HAP were acted as carriers to adsorb more luminophores and co-reaction promoters. In addition, due to the enhanced effect of PTX on the ECL intensity of the luminol-O 2 system, PTX was introduced as the final detection target. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the ECL intensity change values (ΔI) of the sensor showed a good linear relationship with the logarithm of PTX concentration in the range of 3 × 10 -12 − 3 × 10 -7 molL -1 , and the limit of detection was 1 × 10 -12 mol L -1 (S/N = 3). This method was successfully applied to the determination of trace PTX concentration in serum.

The practical application of high-performance lithium‑sulfur batteries (LSB) was primarily hindered by polysulfides shuttling and sluggish sulfur redox kinetics. To overcome these limitations, this study introduces a multifunctional three-phase heterostructured TiO 2 /ZnS@MXene catalyst engineered to synergistically combine high adsorption capacity and strong catalytic activity. The TiO 2 component, known for its' strong chemical affinity and ZnS, serving as an efficient electrocatalyst, were homogeneously anchored onto the highly conductive MXene substrate via in situ growth. Additionally, the MXene hollow microsphere structure effectively inhibited the self-stacking of lamellar host to ensure the maximum exposure of the active sites, providing a favorable buffer space for the volume expansion throughout the reaction process. The elaborately integrated TiO 2 /ZnS@MXene heterostructure provides a synergistic effect to realize the function of sequential capture-diffusion-transformation of sulfur species throughout the reaction process. As a result, the LSB containing TiO 2 /ZnS@MXene heterostructures could retain 821.7 mAh g −1 after 1000 cycles at 1C with only 0.010 % capacity decay per cycle. Even with a sulfur content of 5.8 mg cm −2 and lean electrolyte conditions (5.1 μL mg −1 ), it still delivers an area capacity of 4.1 mAh cm −2 at 0.2C.

Multiplex modification is considered as one of attractive methods to achieve highly-efficient photocatalytic water splitting into hydrogen evolution performance. Herein, MoS 2 /S v -ZnIn 2 S 4 /ZnS (MS/S v -ZIS/ZS) composites were constructed by a facile in-situ engineering technique. The sulfur vacancy, Ohmic-type contact and I-type heterojunction were systematically integrated into the composites. The unique structure could not only facilitate a directional charge transfer and accelerate the charge extraction, but also enhance the charge utilization and improve the hydrogen reduction reaction dynamics. As a result, the composites exhibited a promoted hydrogen evolution rate of 9.5 mmol g −1 h −1 , which was about 3.8 times higher than that of pure ZIS. This work may extend the in-situ preparation strategy and motivate the intensive investigation of high-efficiency ZIS-based photocatalysts.

Magnesium alloys are promising for biodegradable medical devices due to their low density, high specific strength, and excellent biocompatibility. However, their rapid corrosion, protein fouling, and bacterial adhesion severely limit clinical applications. Here, a stratified-rock-inspired micro/nano-structured ZnS/Zn-MOFs coating was fabricated on AZ31B via a one-step hydrothermal route and post-functionalized with stearic acid (SA) and chloramphenicol (CAP) to afford a superhydrophobic ZnS/Zn-MOFs@SC surface (water contact angle ≈ 164°). The coating retained its superhydrophobicity after ultrasonication, adhesive-tape peeling, and sandpaper abrasion. Electrochemical measurements revealed that the corrosion current density (I corr ) decreased from ∼10 -3 A cm −2 (bare alloy) to 7.66 × 10 -7 A cm −2 , corresponding to a four-order-of-magnitude improvement, while the diameter of the capacitive loop in the Nyquist plot increased by five orders of magnitude. In vitro bacterial tests show the coating fully prevents bacterial adhesion. The inhibition zones for E. coli and S. epidermidis reach 3.1 cm and 4.4 cm. And it has been established that bacterial growth levels below the detection limit (10 5 CFU cm −2 ) cannot effectively evaluate its antimicrobial efficacy. These results demonstrate that the ZnS/Zn-MOFs@SC coating simultaneously provides robust corrosion protection, anti-fouling, and antibacterial activities, offering great potential for next-generation biodegradable implants.
