Thermoelectrics (TE) have received a lot of attention for their ability to directly convert heat into electricity. This capability provides a promising solution for waste heat recovery and clean energy utilization. Strontium titanate (SrTiO 3 ) is a promising N-type oxide TE material. However, its practical application is limited by low electrical conductivity and high thermal conductivity. Here, we present a high-pressure synthesis technique aimed at simultaneously introducing defects as well as enhancing phonon scattering. Enhancing the thermoelectric properties of strontium titanate thermoelectric materials. SrTiO 3 samples doped with different concentrations of La were synthesized by high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) synthesis, which effectively promotes the solid-phase reaction and thus allows for a more homogeneous and efficient doping of La atoms into the SrTiO 3 lattice as compared to the conventional synthesis method. The introduction of La 3+ creates a charge imbalance, which is compensated by the formation of oxygen vacancies. These oxygen vacancies act as donor defects, which in turn increase the carrier concentration and significantly improve the electrical conductivity of the samples. At the same time, the HPHT synthesis conditions induced severe lattice distortions, leading to grain refinement and the formation of dislocation networks and nanopores. By modulating the density and distribution of multiscale defects, La doping significantly improves the interfacial phonon scattering efficiency. This condition reduces the thermal conductivity and improves the thermoelectric properties. By combining defect engineering and interfacial phonon scattering, we achieved the decoupling of electrical and thermal transport properties in La-doped SrTiO 3 . Consequently, the thermoelectric figure of merit ( zT ) was significantly enhanced, reaching 0.18 at 973 K. This study introduces a new methodology and theoretical foundation for the development of high-performance oxide TE materials.

Summary As a promising technology to address the energy storage challenge, reversible solid oxide cell (RSOC) plays a vital role in conversion between chemical energy and electrical power. Over the last several decades, developing high performance fuel electrodes suitable for reversible operation have attracted extensive attentions. This work develops La 0.1 Sr 0.85 Ti 0.35 Fe 0.6 Ni 0.05 O 3− δ which is an A-site deficient design with B-site having additional 5% nickel as the fuel electrode through in-situ metal exsolution. The in-situ exsolution process results in FeNi 3 alloy particles, about 40 nm in size, while maintaining the perovskite structure of the parent oxide. The FeNi 3 nanoparticles greatly improve the electrochemical performance as RSOC fuel electrode such as reducing the interfacial polarization resistance at 800°C by 13.6%, increasing the peak power density by 19% in the fuel cell mode and increasing the current density by 30% in the electrolysis mode. Furthermore, RSOC operation is demonstrated by 20-cycle reverse tests that are conducted by switching between the fuel cell and electrolysis modes. The stable RSOC performance indicates that La 0.1 Sr 0.85 Ti 0.35 Fe 0.6 Ni 0.05 O 3− δ with in-situ constructed FeNi 3 nanoparticles is a potential fuel electrode material for RSOC.

The anode materials play a key role in the electrochemical oxidation process. In this work, a new type of Ti/Sn-SbO x /α-PbO 2 /La-In-β-PbO 2 electrode has been prepared through electrodeposition and applied to the degradation of high concentration aqueous solution of hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were employed to characterize the surface morphological and structural properties of the electrodes, which indicated that the La-In-PbO 2 electrode had smaller grain size, denser surface and larger active surface area compared with undoped and single-doped PbO 2 electrode. Cyclic voltammetry (CV), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were also utilized to investigate the electrochemical performance of electrodes. The results showed that the La-In-PbO 2 electrode exhibited higher oxidation peak current, oxygen evolution potential (2.22 V) and lower charge transfer resistance. The La-In-PbO 2 electrodes were used as anode to degrade HPAM solution under different conditions. The results revealed that the viscosity reduction rate of HPAM reached to 97.63 % after 60 min under the condition of electrolyte concentration, initial concentration of HPAM, initial pH and current density were 0.05 M, 3 g·L −1 , 7 and 20 mA·cm −2 , respectively. The kinetic behavior of HPAM degradation was analyzed by the viscosity reduction experiment. The intermediates in the electrochemical oxidation process were identified by GC–MS and the possible degradation mechanism of HPAM was explored by UV–visible absorption spectra and the Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectra.

The characteristic transition from ferroelectric (FE) to ergodic relaxor (ER) state in (Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3(BNT) based lead-free ceramics provides an efficient approach to bring a highly ordered phase back to a disordered one. It would be rational to utilize this transition to improve relevant non-piezoelectric properties based on domain decomposition. In this work, different La contents were introduced to 0.93(Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3-0.07Ba(Ti0.945Zr0.055)O3ceramics (BNT-BZT-xLa) to induce evolution of ergodic degree. The results reveal that with increasing La content, both the FE-ER transition temperatureTF-Rand depolarization temperatureTdshift towards room temperature, implying a deepened ergodic degree. By modulation of ergodic degree, thermally stimulated depolarization current experiment shows a higher current density peak, and corresponding pyroelectric coefficient increases from 2.46 to 2.81 μC/(cm2∙°C) atTd. For refrigeration, the indirect measurement demonstrates the ΔTmaximum increases from 1.1 K to 1.4 K, indicating an enhanced electrocaloric effect. Moreover, the optimized energy storage effect is observed after La doping. With appearance of “slimmer”P-Eloops, both calculated recoverable energy storage densityWrecand storage efficiencyηincrease to 0.23 J/cm3and 22.8%, respectively. These results denote La doping conduces to the improvement of non-piezoelectric properties of BNT-based ceramics in a certain range. Therefore, La doping should be an adopted modification strategy for lead-free ceramics used in areas like refrigerator and pulse capacitors.Keywords:BNT-based lead-free ceramics;electric properties;ferroelectric to ergodic relaxor state transition;La doping

The occurrence of fluoride contamination in drinking water has gained substantial concern owing to its serious threat to human health. Traditional adsorbents have shortcomings such as low adsorption capacity and poor selectivity, so it is urgent to develop new adsorbents with high adsorption capacity, renewable and no secondary pollution. In this work, magnetic electrospun La-Mn-Fe tri-metal oxide nanofibers (LMF NFs) for fluoride recovery were developed via electrospinning and heat treatment, and its defluoridation property was evaluated in batch trials. Modern analytical tools (SEM, BET, XRD, FTIR) were adopted to characterize the properties of the optimized adsorbent, i.e., LMF11 NFs with a La:Mn molar ratio of 1:1. The surface area calculated via BET method and pHpzcassessed using pH drift method of LMF11 NFs were 55.81 m2g−1and 6.47, respectively. The results indicated that the adsorption amount was highly dependent on the pH of the solution, and reached the highest value at pH = 3. The kinetic behavior of defluoridation on LMF11 NFs was dominated by the PSO model with the highest fitted determination coefficients of 0.9999. Compared with the other three isotherm models, the Langmuir model described defluoridation characteristics well with larger correlation coefficients of 0.9997, 0.9990, 0.9987 and 0.9976 at 15 °C, 25 °C, 35 °C and 45 °C, respectively. The optimized LMF11 NFs exhibited superior monolayer defluoridation capacities for 173.30–199.60 mg F−/g at pH 3 at 15–45 °C according to the Langmuir isotherm model. A thermodynamic study proved that the defluoridation by LMF11 NFs is a spontaneous, endothermic along with entropy increase process. In addition, the LMF11 NFs still showed high defluoridation performance after three reused cycles. These findings unveil that the synthesized LMF11 NFs adsorbent is a good adsorbent for fluoride remediation from wastewater owing to its low cost, high defluoridation performance and easy operation.Keywords:La-Mn-Fe tri-metal oxides nanofibers;defluoridation;electrospinning;kinetics;wastewater treatment

Transition metal-carbon compounds derived from Ni-MOFs show promise as catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) water electrolysis but suffer from limited reactivity and stability. Elemental doping is a key strategy to enhance both catalytic activity and durability. Here, we present an effective approach to simultaneously improve catalyst performance and structural robustness by in-situ doping a Ni-MOF precursor with La. Using a La-doped nanoflower-structured NiLa-MOF precursor as a self-sacrificing template, we obtained a highly active and stable nanoflower-like NiLa-Ni 2 P/C electrocatalyst via pyrolysis and phosphidation.Uniform La doping into the MOF precursor not only promotes nanoflower-like morphology formation and enhances stability, but also tunes the electronic structure of Ni active centres, markedly improving catalytic reactivity. Consequently, the NiLa-Ni 2 P/C catalyst delivers exceptional HER performance: only 167 mV overpotential and 90 mV·dec −1 Tafel slope at 10 mA·cm −2 in 1.0 M KOH. It also shows superior long-term stability over undoped Ni-Ni 2 P/C at the same current density. This work provides new insights and practical strategies for rare-earth-element-based HER catalysts in alkaline water electrolysis.

The development of eco-friendly synthetic pathways for asymmetric organic carbonates such as butyl methyl carbonate (BMC) is essential for advancing sustainable chemistry. Traditional BMC production often relies on toxic precursors and energy-intensive methods. This study presents the rational design of La-doped CeO 2 nanorod catalysts (Ce 1 La x , x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.5) synthesized via a hydrothermal method for the transesterification of bio-based n-butanol (BuOH) with dimethyl carbonate (DMC). Systematic characterization including XRD, Raman, FTIR, HRTEM, NH 3 -TPD, and CO 2 -TPD revealed that incorporating La 3+ into the CeO 2 lattice increased the concentration of surface oxygen vacancies and acid-base sites, both critical for activating reactants. The Ce 1 La 0.2 catalyst exhibited superior performance, achieving 95.5% BuOH conversion and 94.3% BMC selectivity under mild conditions (363 K, 2 h), outperforming most reported catalysts. This high activity was attributed to an appropriate concentration of oxygen vacancies and acid-base sites, which promoted the simultaneous activation and conversion of DMC and BuOH. Furthermore, the catalyst demonstrated excellent recyclability and minimal leaching, confirming its stability and heterogeneous nature. This work provides an efficient, sustainable strategy for BMC synthesis and highlights the importance of defect engineering in rare-earth-doped metal oxides for producing value-added chemicals through green catalysis. Graphical We report La-doped CeO 2 catalysts for eco-friendly synthesis of butyl methyl carbonate (BMC). The optimal catalyst achieved 95% BuOH conversion and 94% BMC selectivity under mild conditions, enabling sustainable green catalysis.

La promotes surface electron transfer in NiFe 2 O 4 to form La-Fe-O precursors. • In-situ LaFeO 3 perovskite scaffold physically confines and anchors active grains. • 20% La doping optimizes the synergy between active site exposure and stability. • Lattice reconstruction enables a high CO 2 conversion of 73% at 700 °C. • Stable CO 2 conversion above 97% over 30 h continuous operation. Catalytic hydrogenation of CO 2 to CO via the reverse water-gas shift (RWGS) reaction provides an attractive route for renewable hydrogen utilization and carbon recycling. NiFe 2 O 4 spinels are promising RWGS catalysts owing to abundant oxygen vacancies and excellent CO 2 activation capability. However, the reconstruction-induced aggregation of Fe-Ni active phases under reaction conditions severely limits durability. Herein, La modification regulates phase reconstruction, surface basicity, and oxygen environments. La-induced electron transfer promotes Ni reduction, modifies Fe-O coordination, and enriches defect-related and adsorbed oxygen species, enhancing CO 2 activation. Meanwhile, LaFeO 3 anchors Fe-Ni nanocrystals and suppresses FeO accumulation and sintering. Consequently, 20La 2 O 3 -NiFe 2 O 4 achieves 73.0% CO 2 conversion at 700 °C, and 2.33 times that of pristine NiFe 2 O 4 , while retaining approximately 97% of its initial conversion after 30 h. This work provides an effective strategy for active-phase stabilization, advancing the development of durable catalysts for efficient CO 2 hydrogenation. Fluoride-containing wastewater has posed severe threats to the ecological environment and human health. Current mainstream treatment technologies still suffer from difficulties in the deep purification of low-concentration fluoride, poor adaptability to complex actual wastewater, and high treatment costs. Therefore, the development of environmentally friendly and cost-effective functional materials is a critical approach to achieve efficient treatment of such wastewater. This study addresses this need by synthesizing a lanthanum-based metal-organic framework (La-MOF) adsorbent through hydrothermal method by using terephthalic acid derived from waste polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastics as organic ligand. The synthesized La-MOF exhibited stable fluoride ions removal performance across a wide pH range, achieving 90% removal efficiency and maximum adsorption capacity of 52.0 mg/g at optimal pH 4. The adsorption process of fluoride ions by La-MOF was accurately represented by the Langmuir isotherm model, and the kinetics obeyed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Thermodynamic analysis revealed that elevated temperatures were conducive to the adsorption of fluoride ions. Competitive ion experiments show that PO 4 3− , HCO 3 − , ciprofloxacin, and tetracycline have a certain impact on the removal of fluoride ions when their concentrations exceed 20 mg/L. Besides, ion exchange, electrostatic attraction, and coordination are the primary mechanisms for fluoride removal. Life cycle assessment shows that using PET as a synthetic material for La-MOF reduces the environmental footprint of waste plastics and also lowers the cost of synthetic materials. Fixed-bed column dynamic tests with real wastewater demonstrated that La-MOF maintained good treatment efficiency over five cycles. The results indicate that the La-MOF not only exhibits excellent removal performance toward low-concentration fluoride, but also achieves the synergistic treatment goal of “treating waste with waste”, demonstrating a very broad application prospect.

Lattice contraction increases defect oxygen species and modifies surface transition-metal redox states. • HEP-Nd-0.3 achieves a bifunctional potential gap ΔE = 0.77 V with OER overpotential of 290 mV and ORR half-wave potential of 0.75 V. • Zn-air battery delivers 115 mW cm⁻² peak power density and stable operation for over 340 h. • A-site lattice modulation alone enhances intrinsic OER/ORR activity without aliovalent doping. Rechargeable zinc–air batteries require bifunctional air-cathode catalysts capable of efficiently catalyzing both the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Herein, La 1-x Nd x (Cr 0.2 Mn 0.2 Fe 0.2 Co 0.2 Ni 0.2 ) O 3 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3) high-entropy perovskites (HEP) were synthesized to examine the influence of isovalent Nd³⁺ substitution at the A site on bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysis. Replacement of La³⁺ with smaller Nd³⁺ preserves the nominal A-site charge while inducing lattice contraction and modifying the surface chemical environment of the multication perovskite. Among the investigated compositions, HEP-Nd-0.3 exhibits the best bifunctional activity, delivering an OER overpotential of 290 mV at 10 mA cm −2 , an ORR half-wave potential of 0.75 V versus RHE, and a bifunctional potential gap of 0.77 V. When used as the air-cathode catalyst in a rechargeable zinc–air battery, HEP-Nd-0.3 achieves a peak power density of 115 mW cm −2 and stable charge–discharge operation for >340 h. The enhanced performance is associated with Nd-content-dependent variations in lattice structure, surface oxygen chemistry, electrochemically accessible surface area, and charge-transfer characteristics. These results identify isovalent rare-earth A-site substitution as a practical strategy for tuning high-entropy perovskite oxygen electrocatalysts. In this study, pyridine-a representative nitrogen-containing heterrocylic contaminant in coal chemical wastewater-was targeted for photocatalytic degradation. We developed a novel ternary composite photocatalyst through the in-situ integration of layered double hydroxide (LDH) and iron-based metal-organic framework (MIL-101(Fe)) with lanthanum‑iron co-doped TiO 2 via hydrothermal synthesis. These contaminants are characterized by high environmental persistence, low biodegradability, and potential teratogenic/carcinogenic risks. The synthesized LDH/MIL-101(Fe)/La-Fe-TiO 2 composite was systematically characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis. Key findings revealed that: (1) The composite architecture achieves an exceptional specific surface area of 168.96 m 2 /g through synergistic LDH/MIL-101(Fe) integration; (2) La–Fe co-doping effectively extends the photoresponse threshold of TiO 2 to the visible-light region. Under optimized conditions (25 °C, 300 rpm agitation, 400 W irradiation), the system achieved 96.1 % pyridine degradation (initial concentration: 100 mg/L) within 4 h, following pseudo-first-order kinetics (R 2 = 0.99). Remarkably, the catalyst maintained 94.5 % efficiency after five consecutive cycles, demonstrating superior stability. Mechanistic investigations combining GC–MS analysis, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) detection, and radical quenching tests identified the reactive species activity sequence as ∙ h + > ∙ OH > O 2 − , ultimately elucidating the complete pyridine mineralization pathway.

Magnetic La-based composites with different La forms—Fe 3 O 4 /La(OH) 3 (MLH), Fe 3 O 4 /LaCO 3 OH (MLCH), and Fe 3 O 4 /La 2 (CO 3 ) 3 (MLC)—were synthesized via a one-pot hydrothermal method at 90°C. This low-temperature process utilizes nitrate ions as oxidants, yielding diverse La forms in a single step while reducing energy input and process complexity. The effect of La forms on phosphate adsorption was systematically evaluated. MLH exhibited the highest adsorption capacity (106.30 mg/g) with nearly stoichiometric P/La utilization (0.993), whereas MLCH attained the fastest kinetics. Both MLH and MLCH maintained high performance over a wide pH range (4.0–9.0), while MLC performed optimally under mildly acidic conditions (4.0–6.0) but was adversely affected by bicarbonate ions. All composites demonstrated excellent magnetic recovery and reusability, with capacity retention above 94.9% after five cycles. Furthermore, phosphate recovery, achieved via adsorption–desorption cycles followed by CaCl 2 -induced precipitation, confirmed the dual utility of these materials for both pollutant removal and resource recovery. In real wastewater treatment, either 0.05 g/L of MLH or 0.1 g/L of MLCH reduced the phosphate concentration from 2.25 mg/L to 0.021 mg/L. While the adsorption mechanism for all composites involves electrostatic attraction and ligand exchange, the specific La form markedly influences overall performance. This study provides valuable insight into the role of La forms in phosphate adsorption and introduces a simple, low-energy synthesis approach for preparing high-performance magnetic La-based adsorbents.
