Light quality consists of a spectrum of different bands, which not only affects plant, development, and primary metabolism but also affects the secondary metabolism of plants. It is an important factor affecting the content of active components of medicinal plants. The A. paniculata seedlings planted in the laboratory, as materials, were tested with red light, far red light, blue light, and ultraviolet light separately. The study assays the content of six main chemical components separately by LC-MS, observes the changes in the content, and analyzes the relationship between the light quality and the active ingredient of A. paniculata. Using the ointment yield and pH value, the fingerprint analysis method of A. paniculata standard decoction was established, and we discussed the selection of index components of A. paniculata standard decoction. It was suggested to select andrographolide as the index component. It will provide a theoretical basis for the large area cultivation of A. paniculata and optimize the quality of medicinal materials to ensure the quality of standard decoction.

Surface modification by metal ion has been considered a promising strategy to enhance the photocatalytic activity by extending optical response and improving charge separation and transportation. Here, univalent copper species were modified on ZnIn 2 S 4 photocatalyst via an in-situ photodeposition method, exhibiting a much higher H 2 evolution rate of 41.10 ± 3.43 mmol g −1 h −1 and an impressive apparent quantum efficiency (AQE) of 20.81% at 420 ± 15 nm. Our characterizations indicate that the surface modification by copper species can broaden light utilization as well as promote charge separation and transportation. Besides, the density functional theory (DFT) results further exhibit that the energy levels (LUMO and HOMO) for copper-surface modified ZnIn 2 S 4 present spatial separation, locating on the Zn-S and In-S layers, respectively, which can suppress the recombination of electron and hole and thus achieves higher photocatalytic H 2 evolution efficiency.

Inkjet-printed quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) are considered to be ideal candidates for use in full-color displays. However, preparation of eco-friendly blue InP QLEDs using inkjet printing techniques remains rather challenging due to the inferior optical properties of QDs. Here, we present the first efficient method for generating inkjet-printed QLEDs with high color purity using blue InP/ZnS/ZnS QDs as the emitting layer. A two-step heat-up and thick shell strategy was employed for the preparation of blue InP/ZnS/ZnS QDs with a photoluminescence (PL) peak at 465 nm, full width at half-maximum of 38 nm, and PL quantum yield (QY) of ∼ 96 %, which are the records for blue InP QDs. We found that the use of a zinc iodide precursor and anhydrous oxygen reaction environment is critical to determining InP core size, and the size distribution of InP cores can be improved by separating formation of InP magic size clusters and cores via a heat-up step at low temperature. We used two kind of zinc precursors to facilitate shell growth, and the engineered shell thickness suppresses energy transfer, enabling InP/ZnS/ZnS QDs film with high PLQYs and contributing to efficient inkjet printing of QLEDs. These results can facilitate the development of blue InP QLEDs for large-area electroluminescent full-color displays.

Traditional photo-responsive self-healing coatings derived from UV-response mechanisms may not be ideal strategies, since UV irradiation often causes undesired damage to coating macromolecular matrices. Herein, we first offer a novel strategy to conduct a blue light-responsive microsphere-based system for autonomous self-healing coatings, in which photo-responsive units containing backbones of polymer shell enable to generate free radicals under blue light irradiation. After the resulting free radicals are irreversibly consumed by encapsulated polymerization inhibitor, this system can release healing agent through microsphere collapses under a milder condition, which is universal to different matrices and promotes the development of photo-responsive self-healing coatings towards weak stimulations and autonomous self-healing.

A breakthrough in enhancing visible-light photocatalysis of wide-bandgap semiconductors such as prototypical titania (TiO2) via cocatalyst decoration is still challenged by insufficient heterojunctions and inevitable interfacial transport issues. Herein, we report a novel TiO2-based composite material composed of in situ generated polymorphic nanodomains including carbon nitride (C3N4) and (001)/(101)-faceted anatase nanocrystals. The introduction of ultrafine C3N4 results in the generation of many oxygen vacancies in the TiO2 lattice, and simultaneously induces the exposure and growth of anatase TiO2(001) facets with high surface energy. The photocatalytic performance of C3N4-induced TiO2 for degradation of 2,4-dichlorophenol under visible-light irradiation was tested, its apparent rate being up to 1.49 × 10−2 min−1, almost 3.8 times as high as that for the pure TiO2 nanofibers. More significantly, even under low operation temperature and after a long-term photocatalytic process, the composite still exhibits exceptional degradation efficiency and stability. The normalized degradation efficiency and effective lifespan of the composite photocatalyst are far superior to other reported modified photocatalysts.

Abstract Combining 3D printing with precursor-derived ceramic for fabricating electromagnetic (EM) wave-absorbing metamaterials has attracted great attention. This study presents a novel ultraviolet-curable polysiloxane precursor for digital light processing (DLP) 3D printing to fabricate ceramic parts with complex geometry, no cracks and linear shrinkage. Guiding with the principles of impedance matching, attenuation, and effective-medium theory, we design a cross-helix-array metamaterial model based on the complex permittivity constant of precursor-derived ceramics. The corresponding ceramic metamaterials can be successfully prepared by DLP printing and subsequent pyrolysis process, achieving a low reflection coefficient and a wide effective absorption bandwidth in the X-band even under high temperature. This is a general method that can be extended to other bands, which can be realized by merely adjusting the unit structure of metamaterials. This strategy provides a novel and effective avenue to achieve “target-design-fabricating” ceramic metamaterials, and it exposes the downstream applications of highly efficient and broad EM wave-absorbing materials and structures with great potential applications.

White-light emitting elastomers (WLEEs) based on stimuli-responsive aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and regulated Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) have aroused increasing attention due to the demands for wearable optoelectronic devices. Herein, the blue and orange AIEgens with different environmental sensitivities are synthesized and then encapsulated on both sides of nanofibers via side-by-side electrospinning aiming to achieve the Janus WLEEs. After regulating the blue-orange AIEgens ratio, efficient and stable white light emission with a CIE coordinate of about (0.33, 0.31) is achieved at a blue-orange AIEgens mass ratio of 3:1. Besides, the Janus nanofibers (Janus-NFs) also present super stretchability with elongation at the break over 150% and tensile strength close to 7 MPa. The sensitivity of fluorescence for Janus-NFs to its stretching deformation is used to visualize the evolution of the microstructure of nanofibers during stretching. Moreover, the Janus-NFs are also sensitive to HCl and NH 3 , of which the fluorescence color would change under HCl and NH 3 fuming above 2 and 57 ppm in air, respectively. The promising applications of the white light Janus-NFs in smart fabrics, warning sensors, and anti-counterfeiting packaging are demonstrated. This finding provides an efficient strategy for achieving wearable WLEEs with multiple functionalities, promoting the development of wearable devices.

The photothermal Marangoni effect enables direct light-to-work conversion, which is significant for realizing the self-propulsion of objects in a noncontact, controllable, and continuous manner. Many promising applications have been demonstrated in micro- and nanomachines, light-driven actuators, cargo transport, and gear transmission. Currently, the related studies about photothermal Marangoni effect-induced self-propulsion, especially rotational motions, remain focused on developing the novel photothermal materials, the structural designs, and the controllable self-propulsion modes. However, extending the related research from the laboratory practice to practical application remains a challenge. Herein, we combined the photothermal Marangoni effect-induced self-propulsion with the triboelectric nanogenerator technology for sunlight intensity determination. Photothermal black silicon, superhydrophobic copper foam with drag-reducing property, and triboelectric polytetrafluoroethylene film were integrated to fabricate a triboelectric nanogenerator. The photothermal-Marangoni-driven triboelectric nanogenerator (PMD-TENG) utilizes the photothermal Marangoni effect-induced self-propulsion to realize the relative motion between the triboelectric layer and the electrode, converting light into electrical signals, with a peak value of 2.35 V. The period of the output electrical signal has an excellent linear relationship with the light intensity. The accessible electrical signal generation strategy proposed here provides a new application for the photothermal Marangoni effect, which could further inspire the practical applications of the self-powered system based on the photothermal Marangoni effect, such as intelligent farming.

The light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) have received extensive attention from researchers in recent years due to their simple single-layer structure, air-stable metal electrodes, and low manufacturing cost. So far, reports on the use of LEC active layer emitter materials have mainly focused on ionic transition metal complexes (iTMCs) and conjugated polymers (CPs). The application of the above materials in blue LECs is restricted due to high cost, complicated synthesis process, and poor stability, which results in the slow development of blue LECs. A novel blue LECs device based on aggregation-induced emission (AIE) small molecule (2,3-diphenylbenzo[ b ]thiophene S, S-sulfur dioxide, DP-BTO) with a peak luminance of 36.58 cd/m 2 , a CEmax of 1.14 cd/A, and an EQEmax of 0.46% was reported in this work. The blue light emission centered at ~460 nm was exhibited at a voltage above 6 V. This work successfully constructed blue light-emitting LECs devices based on AIE materials, opening up a new research avenue for the application of AIE materials in the field of thin-film device development.

Graphical Perovskite LaSrCoFeO 6 (LSCF) oxide was investigated as a heterogeneous visible-light catalyst. The material was found to demonstrate highly efficient catalytic performance for the epoxidation of styrene under aerobic conditions. In the search for a highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the epoxidation of styrene, it is still a challenge to develop a system that simultaneously possesses superior catalytic activity and selectivity under aerobic conditions. Herein, we report the use of perovskite LaSrCoFeO 6 (LSCF) as a heterogeneous and visible-light catalyst, and determine that LSCF acts as a highly efficient catalyst for the epoxidation of styrene under aerobic conditions. The formation of 1 O 2 species transformed from O 2 ⋅ − species were proposed as reactive oxygen species for the epoxidation of styrene over the LSCF catalyst, where the directional generation of O 2 ⋅ − species on the LSCF catalyst is the key step to yield highly selective epoxidation of styrene. The experimental results of styrene epoxidation show that when the molar ratio of styrene and LSCF catalyst is 150 : 1 and the reaction is under the conditions of visible light (440 nm) and 100 °C for 6 h, the conversion of styrene and selectivity of styrene oxide reached 99.9 % and 80.3 %, respectively. The reaction rate over LSCF catalyst is as high as 50 mmol ⋅ g cat −1 ⋅ h −1 . In addition, the reaction kinetics of the epoxidation of styrene over LSCF catalyst was systematically studied.

The spread application of Titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) is severely limited by the rapid recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs (e - -h + ). For many applications, two-dimensional (2D) molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ), with large specific surface area and sufficient active sites, has been widely researched as a beneficial support for TiO 2 photocatalytic activity enhancement. The synthesized heterostructures , the 2D MoS 2 nanosheets loaded with brown TiO 2 particles (b-TiO 2 @MoS 2 ) were manufactured through an ultrasound aided electrochemical exfoliation of natural bulk molybdenite coupled with sol-gel technique at low temperature (180 ºC). SEM, TEM , HRTEM, XRD , XPS , UV–vis absorption, Raman, PL spectra, and photocurrent analysis were used to investigate the morphology, microstructure, composition , and charge separation property of the samples. It was determined that b-TiO 2 @MoS 2 heterostructures had photocatalytic activity by observing their degradation of butyl xanthate during 120 min of visible light irradiation. Furthermore, the photocatalytic effectiveness of the 1 wt% b-TiO 2 @MoS 2 heterostructures is 94.80%, with a maximum rate constant (k value) of 0.01764 min −1 . In contrast to brown TiO 2 , the findings indicated that the b-TiO 2 @MoS 2 heterostructures enhanced visible light absorption, the expansion of active sites, the separation and transfer of photogenerated charges. A probable degradation mechanism of photodegradation butyl xanthate and charge transfer process of b-TiO 2 @MoS 2 heterostructures under visible light irradiation were also postulated.

Micro/nanomotors with extraordinary motion capability have shown great potential in biomedicine and environmental remediation to undertake cargo transport tasks. To realize efficient microscale cargo loading, it is critical to endow micro/nanomotors with a proper surface morphology , powerful propelling force, and great motion controllability. Herein, being inspired by pollination, a light-controlled micromotors with efficient motion and loading capacity based on sunflower pollen grain were successfully developed and investigated. Using focused laser irradiation , the convection generated by thermal Marangoni effect can effectively drive the micromotor underwater with great controllability. Moreover, the micromotor can exhibit two motion behaviors by adjusting the laser irradiation location, which can be employed for different application tasks. Furthermore, yeast cells, as a live cargo model, can be efficiently captured in the round-trip motion and transported in straight-line motion of the micromotor, while retaining high cell viability . These micromotors exhibit improved efficiency in capturing targets by introducing synergistic topographic interactions. Thus, these micromotors can be expected to largely extend the capabilities of micro/nanomotors in propulsion, motion control and cargo, thereby providing a way for the development of intelligent micromotors.
