In this study, we proposed a novel method of adding large amount of excessive Ti in Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 TiO 3 -based thin film to improve its energy storage density. Ti-excess 0.94Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 Ti x O 3 -0.06BaTi x O 3 (BNBT x , x = 1.00, 1.05, 1.10, 1.15) thin films were successfully prepared by sol–gel method. It was found that the phase structure of the thin films kept unchanged with the increase of Ti content, and substantial improvements in microstructure and breakdown strength could be obtained by the addition of an excess of Ti in BNBT x thin films, as well as reduced leakage. As a result, improved energy storage density of 34 J/cm 3 and energy storage efficiency of 48% were achieved simultaneously in BNBT 1.15 thin film at a medium electric field of 2400 kV/cm. Furthermore, Ti-excess thin films showed high-dielectric constant with good temperature stability from 25 to 200 °C. These results demonstrate that Ti-excess BNBT x thin film is a potential system for energy storage materials.

Background Poor mechanical properties, undesirable fast dissolution rate, and lack of antibacterial activity limit the application of hydroxyapatite (HA) as an implant coating material. To overcome these limitations, a hybrid coating of Ag+-substituted fluorhydroxyapatite and titania nanotube (TNT) was prepared. Methods The incorporation of silver into the HA-TiO2 hybrid coating improves its antimicrobial properties. The addition of F as a second binary element increases the structural stability of the coating. The TNT/F-and-Ag-substituted HA (FAgHA) bilayer coating on the Ti substrate was confirmed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).Results The results indicate that the FAgHA/TNT nanocomposite coating has a dense and uniform morphology with a nano-rod-like structure. The solubility measurement result shows that the substitution of F− ions into the AgHA structure has a positive effect on the dissolution resistance of HA. The adhesion strength of FAgHA/TNT has significantly increased because of the interlocking of the roughened surface with nano-rod-like particles that entered into the voids of the TiO2 nanotubes. Compared with that of the bare Ti, the corrosion current density of FAgHA/TNT-coated Ti substrate decreased from 3.71 to 0.18 μA, and its corrosion resistance increased by almost two orders of magnitude. Moreover, despite pure HA, the FAgHA killed all viable Staphylococcus aureus after 24 hours of incubation. Although the fabricated FAgHA/TNT coating is hydrophobic, it induced deposition of the typical spherical apatite when immersed in a simulated body fluid (SBF); the osteoblasts spread very well on the surface of the coating. In addition, in vitro cell culture tests demonstrated cell viability and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) similar to pure HA, which indicated good cytocompatibility. Interestingly, compared with bare Ti, FAgHA/TNT-coated Ti surface was innocent for cell vitality and even more beneficial for cell osteogenesis in vitro. Conclusion Enhancing the osseointegration and preventing infection in implants, the FAgHA/TNT-coated Ti makes implants more successful.

Effective lubrication is critical for the hot extrusion of titanium alloys to enhance the surface quality of the workpieces and reduce die wear. This study investigates the high-temperature tribological behavior of sodium silicate coatings with varying SiO 2 /Na 2 O molar ratios on Ti-6Al-4V alloy surfaces. High-temperature friction tests reveal that the combination of elevated temperature and high shear stress promotes the depolymerization of the SiO 4 tetrahedral network. This process leads to an increased concentration of non-bridging oxygens (NBOs) and Q 1 units within the melt, which improves the melt fluidity and facilitates the reflow of the melt into the wear track. Concurrently, the high temperature and shear stress accelerate the diffusion-reaction of sodium ions (Na + ), leading to the in situ formation of layered Na 2 Ti 3 O 7 at the interface between the sodium silicate and the TiO 2 . The synergistic lubrication mechanism of Na 2 Ti 3 O 7 , sodium silicate melt, and TiO 2 is the key to the excellent tribological performance of the sodium silicate coatings. This study provides the theoretical basis for designing silicate-based glass lubricating coatings for titanium alloy hot extrusion.

High-voltage lithium cobalt oxide (LiCoO 2 , LCO) offers high energy density for advanced electronics, but elevated cut-off voltages accelerate surface Co/O loss and structural degradation. Here, we report a scalable waste-to-value upcycling route that combines process-intensified regeneration with interfacial engineering to convert end-of-life LCO into a high-voltage-stable cathode. Mechanochemical leaching and continuous NH 4 HCO 3 -assisted co-precipitation produce a spherical Al-doped, Li-deficient precursor, which is regenerated by relithiation and calcination. Surface hydrolysis of tetrabutyl titanate followed by mild lithium-assisted annealing forms a conformal Li-Ti-O shell and a shallow Ti-enriched near-surface gradient. Multiscale characterization verifies the nanoscale coating and interfacial transition region, and first-principles calculations show that Ti lowers the surface energy of the LCO (104) facet, explaining the improved near-surface stability. The optimized material delivers 228.8 mAh g –1 at 0.2 C, 183.7 mAh g –1 at 5 C, and 85% capacity retention after 100 cycles at 1 C (3.0–4.6 V). This regeneration-to-interface-conversion strategy provides a practical route for greener, scalable rejuvenation of reclaimed LCO.

The development of electrocatalysts that simultaneously exhibit high activity and robust stability for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is critical to advancing proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE). In this work, Mn-doped RuO2 is composited with acid-resistant and highly conductive Ti4O7 via a simple molten salt method, yielding a Mn-RuO2/Ti4O7 hybrid electrocatalyst. Electrochemical measurements reveal that Mn-RuO2/Ti4O7 achieves a low overpotential of 194 mV at 10 mA cm⁻² and maintains stable operation for over 220 h at this current density. In situ spectroscopic analysis and computational studies further indicate that Mn doping modulates the electronic interplay between RuO2 and Ti4O7, which not only suppresses over-oxidation of Ru at high potentials but also promotes the deprotonation kinetics of reaction intermediates, thereby significantly enhancing the overall catalytic performance. This work offers an effective strategy for balancing activity and stability in acidic OER electrocatalys.

MXene has emerged as a promising alternative to carbon-based capacitor materials since its inception, however, the current practical implementation still faces dual challenges: environmentally hazardous, time-consuming synthesis procedures and intrinsically low-concentration pseudocapacitive active sites. Herein, a short-duration, eco-friendly and high-efficiency double fluoride salt hydrothermal strategy was proposed to fabricate Ti 3 C 2 MXene with unparalleled electrochemical properties. A comprehensive and good balance, including rapid MAX phase etching, just-right titanium terminal water oxidation, and ammonia reduction activation, is achieved via a one-step NH 4 HF 2 hydrothermal reaction at 160 °C for merely 1 h (TOR-MXene). It drastically outperforms conventional HF acid etching at 60 °C for 48 h (P-MXene). Systematic experimental characterizations (HRTEM, SAXS, XPS, EXAFS, EPR and in-situ XRD, in-situ Raman) and DFT calculations consistently reveal that instead of the generally believed pore expansion, the abundant highly-reduced titanium dioxide nanoclusters anchored on the surface of MXene exhibit substantial pseudocapacitive activation, accompanied by the threshold Bader charge of Ti atoms exceeding 10.5 |e|. Consequently, the prepared TOR-MXene delivers a remarkable specific capacitance of 446.1 F g −1 even at the ultrahigh current density of 30 A g −1 , a sixfold improvement over the P-MXene of 74.8 F g −1 . Moreover, the TOR-MXene electrode displays around 91.2% capacitance retention over 50,000 cycles, showing an extremely high cycling stability. This strategy establishes atomic-level design principles for MXene-based energy storage, advancing efficient synthesis and performance optimization.

Among non-precious metal catalysts, non-oxide materials often undergo surface oxidation under high-anodic potentials during the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), forming hydroxyl oxides or oxyhydroxides that serve as the true active phases with intrinsically higher activity. However, this structural transformation is frequently accompanied by surface relaxation, lattice distortion, or even partial collapse, leading to progressive degradation of catalytic stability, particularly under high-current-density operation, where long-term structural integrity is severely challenged. Enhancing the operational stability of such non-oxide catalysts is therefore a critical and unresolved challenge. In this work, we rationally doped Ti atoms into the Ni 3 S 2 lattice via a one-step solvothermal synthesis. Ti incorporation introduces low-coordinated metal sites that function as highly dispersed, atomically efficient active centers. These sites promote rapid deprotonation kinetics and lower the energetic barrier for O O bond formation, thereby significantly boosting intrinsic OER activity. The resulting catalyst delivers an overpotential of only 238 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm −2 in 1 M KOH. Crucially, during electrocatalysis, the oxyphilic Ti dopants undergo controlled, sacrificial dissolution and act as “voltage buffers” that mitigate lattice strain and suppress irreversible oxidation of the Ni S framework under high anodic bias. This dynamic stabilization mechanism preserves the structural coherence of the catalyst, enabling stable operation at relevant current densities for over 400 h. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations corroborate the mechanism that confirms the preferential adsorption of OH* and O* intermediates at bridge and top sites associated with low-coordinated Ni atoms, and quantitatively reveal how Ti doping modulates the adsorption strength and coverage of key intermediates across applied potentials. Collectively, this study demonstrates a scalable, rational design strategy integrating targeted dopant selection, mechanistic understanding, and operando stabilization that advances non-oxide, non-noble metal catalysts toward practical water electrolysis applications.

Low-temperature sintering flue gas contains both nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO), requiring bifunctional catalysts for concurrent pollutant abatement. Herein, CuSmTi composite oxides with an identical nominal composition were synthesized via impregnation, mechanical grinding, and sol–gel methods to examine the effects of preparation route on their structure, surface properties, and catalytic performance in coupled NH3-SCR and CO oxidation. CuSmTi-SG exhibited the best performance, achieving >40% NOxconversion at 125 °C, complete NOxand CO conversion at 200 °C, and nearly 100% N2selectivity over 100–300 °C, with stable performance over 24 h. It possessed a higher surface area (131.4 m2g−1), pore volume (0.230 cm3g−1), and smaller TiO2crystallite size (8.5 nm) than the other catalysts. Spectroscopic analyses showed that sol–gel synthesis altered the surface electronic states of Cu and Sm species, resulting in a higher Cu+fraction and greater amounts of medium-to-strong Lewis acid sites and labile surface oxygen species. In situ DRIFTS indicated that CO oxidation proceeded predominantly via a Mars–van Krevelen mechanism over Cu+sites, whereas NH3-SCR mainly followed an Eley–Rideal pathway. CO and NH3preferentially interacted with different surface sites, resulting in limited mutual inhibition. These results demonstrate that the preparation route can modify the structure and surface chemistry of CuSmTi catalysts without changing their nominal composition, thereby affecting their performance in low-temperature NOxand CO abatement.

Solar-driven photocatalytic CO 2 reduction provides a sustainable pathway for carbon-neutral fuel production, yet its efficiency is fundamentally limited by the chemical inertness of linear CO 2 and inefficient utilization of photogenerated charge carriers. Effective activation of CO 2 requires electron injection into its antibonding π* orbitals, a process that is poorly matched with conventional oxide photocatalysts. Herein, we construct chemically defined Ti-O-Fe interfacial bonds in TiO 2 /Fe 2 O 3 heterojunctions to establish a directional d→π* electron-transfer channel for CO 2 activation. The optimized TiO 2 /Fe 2 O 3 photocatalyst, synthesized via a one-step hydrothermal method, exhibits broadened visible-light absorption and delivers a CO formation rate of 17.56 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 , over three times higher than that of pristine TiO 2 . Spectroscopic analyses and density functional theory calculations reveal that interfacial electron transfer shifts Fe 3d states toward the Fermi level, enabling strong hybridization with the CO 2 π* orbitals and significantly lowering the free-energy barrier for *COOH formation. This bond-mediated electronic coupling not only suppresses charge recombination but also directs photogenerated electrons toward the CO 2 activation pathway. These results demonstrate that interfacial d-band engineering through chemically specific oxide–oxide bonds provide a powerful strategy to program elementary reaction steps in solar-driven CO 2 reduction beyond conventional band-alignment design.

This study successfully synthesized a series of 15Ce–xTi/CG catalysts with different TiO2 loading levels by integrating hydrothermal synthesis, impregnation techniques, and subsequent microwave sintering. To comprehensively evaluate the catalytic activity, microstructure, surface properties, and reaction mechanisms of the catalysts, a range of advanced techniques was employed, including NH3-SCR testing, XRD, XPS, SEM, BET, NH3-TPD, H2-TPR, and in situ DRIFTs. The experimental findings revealed that the incorporation of TiO2 significantly enhanced both the structural integrity and functional performance of the catalysts. Specifically, TiO2 facilitated stronger interactions between Ce and Ti, increased the Ce3+/(Ce3+ + Ce4+) ratio, enriched the surface acidic sites, and boosted the concentration of chemically adsorbed oxygen species. Among all the catalysts, 15Ce–6Ti/CG demonstrated superior NO conversion efficiency (exceeding 92% at 300 °C) and maintained high activity across an extensive temperature range of 250–400 °C, while exhibiting remarkable resistance to SO2 and H2O poisoning. In situ DRIFTs experiments further corroborated the coexistence of both Eley–Rideal and Langmuir–Hinshelwood mechanisms, indicating that the catalytic process can proceed via multiple pathways. These results highlight the synergistic effects between Ce and Ti species, as well as the structural advantages of coal gangue as a sustainable support material, providing critical insights for the development of high-performance, environmentally friendly NH3-SCR catalysts.

Antireflective coatings (ARCs) with self-cleaning and antistatic functionalities were fabricated using the sol-gel method with a Ti-Zn modified SiO 2 sol. Chain-like Ti-Zn composites were incorporated into SiO 2 nanoparticles exhibiting a dual-size distribution, forming a cross-linked composite structure that enhanced coating hardness while maintaining high transmittance and imparting multifunctional properties. The effects of Ti-Zn sol content on the surface morphology, microstructure, optical performance, mechanical strength, and wettability of the coatings were systematically investigated. The resulting coatings exhibited a hardness of 3H, an adhesion rating of 5B, and a solar-weighted transmittance (T sw ) of 95.31% across the wavelength range of 380–1100 nm, significantly higher than that of bare K9 glass (91.38%). Moreover, the introduction of the Ti-Zn composite sol imparted superhydrophilic properties to the coating (water contact angle, WCA = 1.8°) and facilitated the formation of continuous conductive pathways, reducing the surface resistivity to 3.61 × 10 8 Ω/□. This effectively suppressed electrostatic charge accumulation, thereby mitigating dust deposition. Furthermore, the coating demonstrated excellent multifunctional performance. A self-cleaning efficiency of 97.10% was achieved with a negligible loss in T sw (0.03%), while the haze value remained below 2% during antifogging tests. Additionally, the dust deposition density was reduced to 40.48% of that of bare glass, confirming the enhanced anti-dust performance.

Water electrolysis is an important technology for green hydrogen production, but the sluggish kinetics of the anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) lead to high overall energy consumption. Using the urea oxidation reaction (UOR) instead of OER has been considered an effective route for reducing potential and treating urea-containing wastewater. Here, we introduced Sn into RuO 2 -TiO 2 /Ti through three methods: electrodeposition, hydrothermal and ion exchange, and constructed a series of NiO-(Sn)-RuO 2 -TiO 2 /Ti electrodes. The systematic characterization showed that Sn was successfully introduced in the form of rutile SnO 2 , and the elements were evenly distributed. The Sn introduction method significantly affected morphology and electrocatalytic performance of electrodes: NiO-(Sn)-RuO 2 -TiO 2 /Ti-E prepared by electrodeposition method exhibited a compact nanosheet structure, high surface roughness and abundant exposed active sites, exhibiting the best activity in HER/OER, while NiO-(Sn)-RuO 2 -TiO 2 /Ti-I prepared by ion exchange method maintained its original morphology, and NiO nanoclusters were evenly dispersed, showing the best performance in UOR. The potential of NiO-(Sn)-RuO 2 -TiO 2 /Ti-I was only 1.39 V ( vs . RHE) at a current density of 100 mA cm −2 , and it operated stably for more than 132 h. When NiO-(Sn)-RuO 2 -TiO 2 /Ti-I was assembled into a HER‖UOR two-electrode system, the cell voltage at 100 mA cm −2 was only 1.65 V, which was 0.26 V lower than that of the traditional HER‖OER. This work reveals the modulating effect of Sn introduction method on the electrocatalytic performance of multi-component oxides, and provides a scalable solution for the advancement of energy-saving hydrogen production coupled with degradation of urea.
