In order to attain phosphor ceramics with a high Color-Rendering Index (CRI), samples with the composition of Y0.997−xRexCe0.003)3(Al0.9748Mn2+0.024Cr3+0.0012)5O12(Rex= 0, Gd0.333, Gd0.666, Gd0.997, Tb0.333, Tb0.666, Tb0.997and Lu0.997were prepared by solid-state reaction and vacuum sintering, and exhibited potential for high-quality, solid-state lighting. Doping with Cr3+and Mn2+effectively enhanced the red component of Ce3+spectra through the intense energy transfer from Ce3+ions to Mn2+/Cr3+ions. The crystal field splitting of [GdO8] and [TbO8] was more extensive than that of [YO8], causing a massive redshift in the Ce3+emission peaks from 542 to 561 and 595 nm, while [LuO8] had an opposite effect and caused a blueshift with a peak position at 512 nm. White LED devices incorporating Ce/Mn/Cr: (Gd0.333Y0.664)3Al5O12phosphor ceramic exhibited a high CRI of 83.97, highlighting the potential for enhancing the red-light component of white LED lighting. Keywords:garnet phosphor;laser lighting;full spectrum;spectral modulation;Ce/Mn/Cr: (Re,Y)3Al5O12

Using diatoms, a typical microbial system of biomineralization, as a template, La 2 O 3 and Y 2 O 3 are synthesized in situ via biological self-assembly during the cultivation of diatoms in La 3+ /Y 3+ -containing media without any supplements, reducing agents or triggering agents. Then, diatom frustules modified with La and Y nanoparticles (NPs) are prepared via high-temperature reduction and crystallization. Furthermore, it has been used as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries and has excellent electrochemical properties. The DFT calculations reveal that the doping of La and Y changes the energy band structure near the Fermi level of SiO 2 and increases the current carrying density. The diatom frustule SiO 2 anodes loaded with La and Y nanoparticles (DBS@C-La-10 and DBS@C-Y-10) have specific discharge capacities of approximately 1021.3 and 980.7 mAh g −1 , respectively, after 220 cycles. This is the first study in which the mineralization behavior of rare earth elements on diatom frustules is reported and applied to anodes in lithium-ion batteries. This work provides a new option for applying rare earth elements in the field of energy storage.

Abstract Performance of polymer-based Au catalysis depends on the size of Au particles and the structure of polymer host materials. In the current studies, the carboxymethyl cellulose-chitosan (CMC-CH) sheet was synthesized by layering CMC on CH sheet, while CMC-CH-CBV 780 zeolite Y (CMC-CHZY) sheet was synthesized by coating the CMC layer on a sheet of CH-incorporated CBV 780 zeolite Y (ZY). The CMC-CH or CMC-CHZY sheets were individually immersed in Au(III) salt solution, which was converted to Au 0 NPs by treating with NaBH 4 to synthesize Au/CMC-CH or Au/CMC-CHZY catalysts respectively. Both the synthesized Au catalyst activities were compared against the discoloration of methylene blue (MB) and Congo red (CR) dyes as well as the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP). It was revealed that Au/CMC-CHZY catalyst showed excellent catalytic performance against all the pollutants. Furthermore, the apparent rate constant k app (3.3 \(\times\) 10 − 1 min −1 ), of Au/CMC-CHZY catalyst was found higher against MB dye discoloration as compared to CR and 4-NP. It was also observed that MB discoloration followed pseudo-first-order while CR and 4-NP followed the zeroth-order kinetics. The catalyst alters the mechanism of a chemical reaction and so does the order of the reaction, therefore, observed different orders of reaction in the current study. Graphic abstract

In this investigation, a series of (1 − x ) Bi 1− y Ho y FeO 3 – x Ba 0.8 Ca 0.2 TiO 3 (0.25 ≤ x ≤ 0.4; y = 0.025) ceramic solid solutions were synthesized using a conventional solid-state reaction route. The primary goal of this study was to perceive the significance of substitution on the structural, magnetic, dielectric, and resistive properties of the ceramic solid solution. The investigation suggested the trace of weak ferromagnetism in all of the samples. A methodical XRD-based phase structural study revealed a presence of a morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) in the range of 0.3 ≤ x ≤ 0.35, showing robust dielectric properties in the MPB region, as verified by the dielectric measurements. A room temperature A.C conductivity study and activation energy calculation advocated an improved resistive property in the x = 0.3 sample.

A simple and highly sensitive fluorometric method is described for the determination of the antibiotic kanamycin (Kana) in food. Dual signal amplification is accomplished by making use of double Y-shaped aptamer DNA probes acting as a capture probes and signal amplification probes. The DNA probes were immobilized on a gold bar and on a magnetic bar, respectively. On addition of Kana, the Y-shaped aptamer probe captures Kana and then is disassembled to release two single-stranded DNAs. These trigger target recycling and HCR between the two bars simultaneously. As a result, many long duplex DNA chains are formed in the supernatant. After pulling out the bars and adding the fluorescent intercalating probe SYBR Green I, strong fluorescence (with excitation/emission peaks at 497/525 nm) is induced. The use of such double Y-shaped DNA probes obviously overcomes the unspecific signal amplification by HCR which increases selectivity and sensitivity. This is due to the fact that the hairpin of HCR is separated in being present in different arms of the Y-shaped probe. Under the optimal conditions, the assay has a limit of 0.45 pg·mL −1 for Kana. It was applied to analyze spiked milk, fish and pork samples.
The scheme represents a sensitive fluorometric aptamer-based method to detect kanamycin (Kana). It is making use of a double stirring bar-assisted dual amplification strategy with zero background. Abbreviations: apt: aptamer, AuNPs: gold nanoparticles, HCR: hybridization chain reaction.

electrode material exhibited a noticeably high specific capacity of as much as 255 (mA·h)/g at 1 A/g. Additionally, it demonstrated a superior rate capability, as well as an excellent cycling stability with 81.6% capacity retention over 2000 cycles at 5 A/g. This sample delivered a high energy density of 64 W·h/kg and a power density of 250 W/kg at a current density of 1 A/g. With such remarkable electrochemical properties, we expect the 3D hierarchical hybrid electrode material presented in this work to have promising applications for the next generation of energy storage systems.

By enabling nanoparticle-based drug delivery system to actively target cancer cells with high selectivity, active targeted molecules have attracted great attention in the application of nanoparticles for anticancer drug delivery. However, the clinical application of most active targeted molecules in breast cancer therapy is limited, due to the low expression of their receptors in breast tumors or coexpression in the normal and tumor breast tissues. Here, a neuropeptide Y Y1 receptors ligand PNBL-NPY, as a novel targeted molecule, is conjugated with anticancer drug doxorubicin encapsulating albumin nanoparticles to investigate the effect of Y1 receptors on the delivery of drug-loaded nanoparticles to breast cancer cells and its potential for breast cancer therapy. The PNBL-NPY can actively recognize and bind to the Y1 receptors that are significantly overexpressed on the surface of the breast cancer cells, and the drug-loaded nanoparticles are delivered directly into the cancer cells through internalization. This system is highly selective and able to distinguish the breast cancer cells from the normal cells, due to normal breast cells that express Y2 receptors only. It is anticipated that this study may provide a guidance in the development of Y1 receptor-based nanoparticulate drug delivery system for a safer and more efficient breast cancer therapy.

Constructing precise delivery systems to enhance the antitumor efficacy of drugs represents a pressing clinical practice need. The characteristics of suitable physiological stability, flexible tunable size, and highly programmable architecture make functional DNA scaffolds an ideal solution to this requirement. Here, we designed DNA oligonucleotide probes Y 1 , Y 2 and Y 3 to construct a smart-responsive Y-shaped DNA scaffold drug conjugate (sYDD). This sYDD incorporates two AS1411 aptamers, an apurinic/apyrimidinic (AP) site, a B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) and a doxorubicin (DOX)-carrying sequence. The Bcl-2 ASO and DOX within sYDD could be responsively released in tumor cells that exhibited high expression of apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1 (APE1) and microRNA-21 (miR-21). And the in vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated that sYDD exhibited substantial antitumor efficiency. Moreover, the flow cytometry and RNA sequencing results proved that the proposed sYDD effectively activated immune responses. This strategy provides an alternative approach for designing synergistic chemo-gene drug conjugates, which facilitates the development of precision tumor treatment modalities.

Microbially synthesized palladium nanoparticles (bio-Pd 0 ) hold great promise for catalysis, but the catalytic activity of bio-Pd 0 relies heavily on its subcellular localization. Electron donors could affect enzymatic reduction efficiency of Pd(II) and control the subcellular location of bio-Pd 0 , yet the underlying mechanisms were unclear. Here, the regulatory mechanism of electron donors on Pd(II) reduction pathways in the non-model bacterium B. megaterium Y-4 was comprehensively investigated by multiple methodologies including cell fractionation, DPV/CV, XPS, FTIR, TEM, proteomics. Key findings revealed that membrane-bound hydrogenases drove periplasmic Pd 0 synthesis via biohydrogen, while the new one-electron extracellular transfer (EET) channel consisting of membrane-attached cytochromes ( ccsB ) and multi-heme cytochromes-bound flavin mediated the extracellular Pd(II) reduction. Notably, electron donors could regulate Pd(II) reduction routes, thereby altering the subcellular distribution of bio-Pd 0 . In lactate-added systems, the higher expression of these proteins related to EET processes (NADH dehydrogenase, membrane-attached cytochrome c, heme-based electron transfer proteins and flavodoxin) promoted extracellular Pd 0 formation (65.4 %). Whereas, in formate-added systems, hydrogenase-driven periplasmic Pd 0 synthesis (64.0 %) was facilitated due to more active formate dehydrogenase, hydrogenase and NADPH-reducing hydrogenase. Moreover, synergistical metabolism of formate and lactate balanced both pathways and maximized the apparent Pd(II) reduction efficiency (98.13 %). Proteomic analysis confirmed formate-specific energy rewiring and compensatory energy via Na⁺-translocating Rnf complex and V-ATPase overexpression. These findings significantly advance our understanding of microbial metal reduction by delineating a true dual-pathway strategy in a Gram-positive bacterium, highlighting the mechanistic diversity beyond model Gram-negative systems and offering new insights for harnessing non-model organisms in biocatalysis and nanoparticle synthesis.

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) have long been a threat to human health. However, designing economical and efficient transition metal composite oxide catalysts for VOCs purification remains a challenge. Herein, this study demonstrates the enormous potential of grain boundary engineering in facilitating VOCs decomposition over ordered mesoporous composite oxide denoted as 3D-Mn x Co y (x, y = 1, 3, 5, 7, 9). Specifically, the three-dimensional (3D) Mn7Co1 catalyst shows 100% ethyl acetate removal efficiency for a continuous airflow containing 1000 ppm ethyl acetate over 60000 h −1 space velocity at 160 °C. Mechanism study suggests that the high catalytic performance originates from the lattice distortion caused by the introduction of heteroatoms , along with the size effect of nanopore walls, which leads to the formation of various grain boundaries on the catalyst surface. The presence of grain boundaries facilitates the generation of oxygen vacancies , thus promoting the migration and activation of oxygen species. Furthermore, the near-atmospheric pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (NAP- XPS) monitoring results reveal that the bimetallic synergy enhanced by grain boundary accelerates the catalytic reaction rate of VOCs through Mn 3+ +Co 3+ ↔Mn 4+ +Co 2+ redox cycle. This study may shed light on the great potential of ordered mesoporous bimetallic oxide catalysts in VOCs pollution control.

This study aimed to provide a systematic analysis of the effect of environmental factors on the growth and volatile flavor compounds (VFCs) production ability of Zygosaccharomyces rouxii Y-8 and further elucidate its contribution to doubanjiang fermentation in different salinity. Lower salinity (0–9%), acidic pH (4.5–5.5), moderate temperature (25–35 °C) and air exposure favored the growth and VFCs accumulation of Z. rouxii Y-8, which also had higher concentrations of key jiang flavor contributing compounds benzene ethanol, 2-methoxy-phenol and pyrazines. Interestingly, samples with higher VFCs concentration were found to contain less kinds of VFCs. When inoculated into doubanjiang fermentation, Z. rouxii Y-8 showed critical roles on the formation of VFCs in doubanjiang . Among doubanjiang samples fermented in different salinity, doubanjiang with 9% salinity had the highest kinds of VFCs. Moreover, its flavor was more balanced and the jiang flavor was stronger. This indicated that the presence of adequate salinity was necessary for Z. rouxii Y-8 to produce critical VCFs responsible for doubanjiang flavor. The results would provide researchers and manufacturers with a deeper understanding of the characteristics of Z. rouxii Y-8 and rationales to utilize Z. rouxii Y-8 as starter to produce high quality BBFFs.

Liver fibrosis is pathologically associated with ferroptosis. Osthole (OST) has good therapeutic effects on liver fibrosis. Our study sought to investigate the pharmacological effects of OST on ferroptosis in hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) during the development of liver fibrosis and define the mechanisms involved. The in vivo model of liver fibrosis was established by CCl 4 treatment. MTT and EDU assays were used to assess cell viability and proliferation, respectively. The interaction between myocyte enhancer factor 2A (MEF2A) and Y-box binding protein 1 (YBX1) was analyzed by dual luciferase reporter and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assays. OST treatment alleviated CCl 4 -induced liver fibrosis in mice by activating ferroptosis. OST induced ferroptosis in HSCs and inhibited the activation of HSCs in vitro, while these effects of OST were reversed by MEF2A overexpression or YBX1 overexpression. Mechanistically, MEF2A activated the Wnt/β-catenin signaling by transcriptionally facilitating YBX1 expression. As expected, the inactivation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling or YBX1 knockdown could reverse the regulatory effect of MEF2A upregulation on the activation of HSCs and ferroptosis in OST-treated HSCs. OST mitigated liver fibrosis by inducing ferroptosis in HSCs and repressing the activation of HSCs through inhibiting the MEF2A/YBX1/Wnt/β-catenin axis.
