Preparation of the egg membrane bandage contained the antibacterial Ag nanoparticles

Jin Zhang,Guangwen Duan,Yunzhi Fu,Jinsheng Zhao

Silver nanoparticles were synthesized using a rapid, single step, and completely green biosynthetic method employing aqueous aloe leaf extracts as both the reducing and capping agent. Transmission electron microscopy analysis revealed the average size of silver nanoparticles approximately 18.05   nm. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy observation showed the estimation of two kinds of binding sites between aqueous aloe leaf and aqueous aloe leaf with silver nanoparticles. In addition, the critical roles of the concentration of silver nitrate, temperature, and reaction time in the formation of silver nanoparticles had been illustrated. Furthermore, silver nanoparticles were deposited on egg membrane bandage, forming a new egg membrane bandage that contained silver nanoparticles that exhibiting excellent antibacterial effects against Gram-negative Escherichia coli and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus , which was 2.5 times stronger than the commercially available bandage.

Ag/AgxH3–xPMo12O40 Nanowires with Enhanced Visible-Light-Driven Photocatalytic Performance

Hong-Fei Shi,Gang Yan,Yi Zhang,Hua-Qiao Tan,Wen-Zhe Zhou,Yuan-Yuan Ma,Yang-Guang Li,Weilin Chen,En-Bo Wang

Photocatalysis, a promising technology platform to address the environmental problems, has been attracting considerable attention. In this paper, Ag/AgxH3–xPMo12O40 (simplified as Ag/AgHPMo12) nanowires have been synthesized by a facile solid reaction route and in situ photodeposited method. The results of SEM and TEM indicate that the diameters of AgHPMo12 nanowires are about 45 ± 10 nm, and Ag nanoparticles with diameters in the range of 5–15 nm are uniformly anchored on the surface of AgHPMo12 nanowires. The Ag content in the Ag/AgHPMo12 composite was manipulated by the light irradiation time (Ag/AgHPMo12-x; x stands for the irradiation time; x = 2, 4, 6, 8 h, respectively). With increasing irradiation time, the light absorption of as-synthesized samples in the visible region was gradually enhanced. The Ag/AgHPMo12-4 exhibits the best photocatalytic performance for the degradation of methyl orange and reduction of Cr2O72– under visible-light (λ > 420 nm) irradiation. The study of the photocatalytic mechanism reveals that both Ag and AgHPMo12 can be excited by visible light. The photoinduced electrons were transferred from AgHPMo12 to metallic Ag, and combined with the Ag plasmonic holes. The Ag plasmonic electrons were trapped by O2 to form ·O2–, or directly reduced Cr2O72– to Cr3+. Meanwhile, the ·O2– species and the photogenerated holes of AgHPMo12 were used to oxidize MO or i-PrOH; thus, they showed highly efficient and recyclable photocatalytic performance for removing the organic and inorganic pollutants.

Photocatalytic Activity Evolution of Different Morphological TiO2 Shells on Ag Nanowires

Changchao Jia,Ping Yang,Jia Li,Baibiao Huang,Katarzyna Matras-Postolek

Graphical One morphology to rule them all : Ag nanowire@TiO 2 (Ag NW@TiO 2 ) heterostructures with three different morphologies were successfully prepared. The Ag NW@TiO 2 core–shell structure exhibited an excellent photocatalytic activity compared with the other two morphologies, owing to the well-developed combined interface between Ag and TiO 2 . Ag nanowire@TiO 2 (Ag NW@TiO 2 ) heterostructures with core–shell, necklace-like, and particle-decorated morphologies were fabricated to investigate the evolution of the photocatalytic properties. The deposition of the TiO 2 phase on the surface of the Ag NWs was achieved through a solvothermal method. Thioglycolic acid (TGA) not only solves the tricky issue of substantial lattice mismatch between the Ag NW core and TiO 2 shell, but also plays an important role in precisely controlling how the TiO 2 is coated on the Ag NW surface. H 2 O molecules affect the deposition of the TiO 2 phase on the Ag NWs. The photocatalytic activity of the Ag NW@TiO 2 heterostructures with different morphologies was evaluated by degradation of methyl orange. The molar ratio of TiO 2 to Ag is crucial for the photocatalytic activity, and the Ag NW@TiO 2 sample with core–shell structure exhibits an excellent performance compared with the others, owing to the TiO 2 phase being densely attached to the Ag NW surface, which forms a well-developed combined interface.

Ternary Pt–Pd–Ag alloy nanoflowers for oxygen reduction reaction electrocatalysis

Aleksei Chalgin,Fenglei Shi,Fan Li,Qian Xiang,Wenlong Chen,Chengyi Song,Peng Tao,Wen Shang,Tao Deng,Jianbo Wu

Elemental composition, dimensionality and morphology are the main factors that influence the catalytic activity and stability of platinum-based and noble metal alloy nanocatalysts. Herein, we present a facile and cost-efficient approach to synthesize ternary alloy Pt–Pd–Ag nanoflowers by co-reduction of the metal precursors in aqueous solutions in a suitable molar ratio, involving hexamethylenetetramine as a structure-directing agent and ascorbic acid as a reducing agent. Both the presence of the aforementioned agents and the interaction between the component metals allow good control over the anisotropic growth of the ternary alloy nanostructure. The as-prepared nanocomposite demonstrates superior electrocatalytic activity towards the oxygen reduction reaction in acidic medium, compared with commercial Pt/C (20 wt%) and Pd/C (10 wt%) catalysts, as well as sufficiently good stability, as demonstrated by the accelerated durability test. The electrocatalytic activity of irregularly shaped nanoparticles of the same elemental composition was also measured, which revealed that the nanoflowers were superior catalysts owing to their specific morphological characteristics. Moreover, the nanoflowers displayed a relatively low electrochemical surface area decay (from 100% to 80.82%) due to their three-dimensional open-framework surface which can limit the aggregation of individual particles.

Mesoporous Ag@TiO2 nanofibers and their photocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution

Minghui Shang,Huilin Hou,Fengmei Gao,Lin Wang,Weiyou Yang

Photocatalytic hydrogen evolution is a promising solution to energy and environmental problems. The grand challenge for its application is how to make photocatalysts with satisfactory efficiency. In the present work, exploration of Ag@TiO2 mesoporous nanofibers via two strategies is reported, namely in situ electrospinning preparation (strategy I) and electrospinning combined with subsequent photodeposition (strategy II). The photocatalytic behavior of the as-synthesized Ag@TiO2 hybrid nanofibers was evaluated in terms of hydrogen evolution efficiency for the photodecomposition of water under Xe lamp irradiation. It was found that incorporation of Ag nanoparticles into the TiO2 mesoporous nanofibers could enhance remarkably their photocatalytic efficiency. The products prepared through strategy I exhibited the highest photocatalytic performance as compared with those prepared by strategy II. Current work might give some insight into exploration of stable binary photocatalysts, which have potential applications for efficient hydrogen evolution.

Fabrication of Ag/AgBr/Ga2O3 heterojunction composite with efficient photocatalytic activity

Qing Liu,Zebin Yu,Mingjie Li,Yanping Hou,Lei Sun,Li Wang,Zhenbo Peng,Dongmei Chen,Yuxin Liu

A novel Ag/AgBr/Ga 2 O 3 composite with heterojunction microstructure was synthesized by using chemical deposition followed by UV reduction method. High resolution transmission electron microscopy showed that Ga 2 O 3 microparticles were tightly attached with Ag/AgBr to form a heterojunction. UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra revealed that light response capability of Ga 2 O 3 was enhanced significantly when combined with Ag/AgBr. The degradation efficiency of methyl orange within 30   min under UV light irradiation with Ag/AgBr/Ga 2 O 3 , Ag/AgBr and Ga 2 O 3 were 89%, 74% and 48%, respectively. Ag/AgBr/Ga 2 O 3 not only showed excellent photocatalytic activity under UV light, but also exhibited efficient photocatalysis capacity under visible light. Furthermore, the mechanism of charge separation in the heterojunction under UV light irradiation was proposed.

Etching of Ag nanoparticles triggered bidirectional regulation for electrochemiluminescence ratiometric immunoassay

Wang Yu-Ling,Liu Xiang-Mei,Ren Shu-Wei,Cao Jun-Tao,Liu Yan-Ming

A highly efficient ratiometric electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunoassay was explored by bidirectionally regulating the ECL intensity of two luminophors. The immunoassay was conducted in a split-type mode consisting of an ECL detection procedure and a sandwich immunoreaction. The ECL detection was executed using a dual-disk glassy carbon electrode modified with two potential-resolved luminophors (g-C 3 N 4 -Ag and Ru-MOF-Ag nanocomposites), and the sandwich immunoreaction using glucose oxidase (GOx)-modified SiO 2 nanospheres as labels was carried out in a 96-well plate. The Ag nanoparticles (NPs) acted as bifunctional units both for triggering the resonance energy transfer (RET) with g-C 3 N 4 and for accelerating the electron transfer rate of the Ru-MOF-Ag ECL reaction. When the H 2 O 2 catalyzed by GOx in the 96-well plate was transferred to the dual-disk glass carbon electrode, the doped Ag NPs in the two luminophors could be etched, thus destroying the RET between C 3 N 4 and the accelerated reaction to Ru-MOF, resulting in an opposite trend in the ECL signal outputted from the dual disks. Using the ratio of the two signals for quantification, the constructed immunosensor for a model target, i.e. myoglobin, exhibited a low detection limit of 4.7 × 10 –14  g/mL. The ingenious combination of ECL ratiometry, bifunctional Ag NPs, and a split-type strategy effectively reduces environmental and human errors, offering a more precise and sensitive analysis for complex samples. Fe3O4/BiOI/Ag Hollow Micromotors with Antibacterial Activity for Wound Healing

Hangyu Luo,Xiaofeng Liu,Zhenbang Meng,Han Wang,Qi He,Ri Chen,Wenxia Wang

Antibacterial micromotors with intriguing properties have represented frontiers of research in the biomedical and environmental fields. While single-powered micromotors still encounter some challenges for efficient propulsion in an intricate biological environment, herein, dual-propelled Fe3O4/BiOI/Ag (FBA) micromotors with hollow structure were synthesized via two facile steps without involving any sophisticated equipment. In this unique design, efficient propulsion of an FBA micromotor powered by magnetic stimuli/visible light was demonstrated. Impressively, the micromotor was capable of flexible propulsion with a remarkable velocity of 119.2 ± 5.9 μm s–1 without addition of toxic fuel. Taking advantage of the locomotion, bacterial capture ability, and photocatalytic capacity, 1 × 107 CFU mL–1 Escherichia coli (E. coli) can be totally inactivated by hollow FBA micromotors. The ideal universality of FBA for antibacterial application toward Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) was confirmed. Besides, the FBA micromotors manifested antibiofilm capacity toward E. coli, methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), and P. aeruginosa. It is worth mentioning that they also displayed ideal biocompatibility and lower toxicity. More importantly, the FBA micromotors can effectively accelerate S. aureus-infected wound healing without causing adverse effects. This work offers an innovative strategy for facile design of dual-propelled micromotors for various environmental and biomedical applications.

Lubrication mechanism of C@Ag core–shell materials as grease additive

Yanping Ren,Xiaoqiang Fan,Kaiyue Lin,Shipeng Chen,Minhao Zhu

The preparation of a low shearing shell on the surface of carbon spheres (CS) is an attractive strategy to improve the lubrication properties of CS. In this study, core–shell structural C@Ag particles were prepared using CS as the hard core and Ag nanoparticles as the soft shell. Then, the additives were mixed with Polyalphaolefin 20 to prepare the C@Ag core–shell-enhanced lithium complex grease (C@Ag-LCG). The physicochemical properties, corrosion resistance, and tribological behaviors of LCGs were investigated. C@Ag-LCG exhibited the best high-temperature resistance and colloidal stability compared with the CS-enhanced lithium complex grease (LCG) and pure LCG. The dropping point and oil separation rate of 0.05 wt% C@Ag-LCG were 255 °C and 2.36 %, respectively. The tribological behavior of greases was tested using a four-ball friction tester, and the main damage mechanism was abrasive wear. The C@Ag additive reduced the average friction coefficient and wear spot diameter by 27.17 % and 26.12 %, respectively. The improved properties were attributed to the synergistic lubrication of hard CS core and soft Ag shell with the rolling, filling, and self-repairing effects, C@Ag deposit films and the self-lubricating oil film, as well as the thickener film and the tribochemical film at the frictional interfaces.

Optimal morphologies of Ag particles on α-Al2O3 for ethylene epoxidation

Lijun Yang,Jiankun Liu,Yuxi Wang,Huanwen Zhou,Xiaoyuan Liao

In industry, silver-based catalysts are the mainstream choice for converting ethylene to ethylene oxide (EO), and the morphology of Ag particles plays an important role in their catalytic performance; however, related studies are scarce. In this work, evidence from SEM shown that we successfully synthesized three different morphologies of Ag particles induced by different solvent, i.e., flower-like Ag (Fl-Ag), spheroidal Ag (Sp-Ag) and sheet-like Ag (Sh-Ag), dissolve them respectively into the mixed solution of silver nitrate/oxalic acid to form a suspension, then load onto α-Al 2 O 3 . Through were calculated from the XRD peak area the Ag(100) surface occupancy has the order of Fl-Ag (30 %) > Sh-Ag (20 %) > Sp-Ag (15 %), and the selectivity of EO has positive relation with similar order of Fl-Ag/Al 2 O 3 (85 %) > Sh-Ag/ Al 2 O 3 (72 %) > Sp-Ag/Al 2 O 3 (70 %). The selectivity of Fl-Ag/Al 2 O 3 for EO at 210 °C was 85 %. It is shown that Ag(100) surface has better O 2 interaction and activated than that of Ag(111) surface, and (100) has a lower activation energy than the side reaction (0.9 eV vs 1.0 eV), facilitates the conversion of ethylene to ethylene oxide. This study provides a new method to design and optimize silver catalysts.

Excellent Electroactivity of Ternary Pd–Ag–Sn Nanocatalysts for Ethanol Oxidation

Zhang Yuanyuan,Yi Qingfeng,Deng Zhongliang,Zhou Xiulin,Nie Huidong

Abstract Multi-walled carbon nanotube (CNT) supported Pd–Ag–Sn nanocatalysts including Pd/CNT, Pd 7 Ag 3 /CNT, Pd 7 Sn 2 /CNT, Pd 7 Ag 1 Sn 2 /CNT, Pd 7 Ag 2 Sn 2 /CNT and Pd 7 Ag 3 Sn 2 /CNT, have been prepared in a mixture solution of ethylene glycol and water by NaBH 4 reduction method. The samples have been characterized by using scanning electron microscopy, transmission election microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Compared to the Pd/CNT and Pd 7 Ag 3 /CNT catalysts, metal particles of the ternary Pd 7 Ag 2 Sn 2 /CNT catalyst are more uniformly dispersed on the surface of CNTs and present the size of ca. 2.4 nm. Both binary Pd–Ag and ternary Pd–Ag–Sn catalysts exhibit the alloying of Pd and Ag. Electrochemical activities of the prepared catalysts for ethanol oxidation in alkaline media were investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry (CA) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Results show that Pd 7 Ag 2 Sn 2 /CNT catalyst reveals the highest current density of ethanol oxidation among the prepared catalysts and presents a high steady-state current density for ethanol oxidation from CA measurement, which is 33 times higher than the commercial Pd/C. Also, Pd 7 Ag 2 Sn 2 /CNT and Pd 7 Ag 3 Sn 2 /CNT catalysts show a large ethanol oxidation peak current density (against Pd loading) of 2.29 and 2.30 A mg −1 , indicating the high usage efficiency of Pd particles for ethanol oxidation. Engineering hierarchical Ag nanoparticles-coated periodic nanoripples for enhanced SERS performance

Duoduo Yang,Kaishen Chen,Yiping Cheng,Zhiyu Liu,Zuolian Liu,Chengyun Zhang

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is renowned for its ultra-sensitivity, rapidity, and non-destructive nature, making it invaluable in environmental monitoring, food safety testing, and biomedical diagnostics. Efficient fabrication of low-cost, contamination-free, reusable, and functional SERS substrates is highly desirable. This work introduces a simple and cost-effective method for fabricating SERS substrates by combining femtosecond (fs) laser-induced periodic surface structuring (LIPSS) with electrochemical deposition of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) on stainless steel mesh (SSM). The highly uniform and periodic nanostructures can be induced by fs laser on the surface of SSM, acting as substrate and enabling the electrochemically deposited Ag NPs to grow into three dimensional (3D) nanostructures. This significantly increases the number of "hot spots" and enhances SERS signal intensity due to the innovative hierarchical micro/nanostructures and concentration enriched effect. The performance of the substrates was evaluated using Rhodamine 6 G (R6G) and malachite green (MG) as probe molecules, achieving detection limits (LOD) of 1.35 × 10⁻¹ ² M and 1.28 × 10⁻¹ ⁰ M, with enhancement factors (EF) of 3.58 × 10⁹ and 1.88 × 10⁷, respectively. The substrates exhibit high reproducibility and uniformity, with a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 2.742 %. Moreover, stability tests demonstrated excellent mechanical and chemical robustness, as the substrate maintained stable SERS performance after ultrasonic treatment (40 kHz, 30 s) and exposure to acidic and alkaline environments (pH 3–11). Numerical simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the nanostructures in enhancing SERS signal. This combined method simplifies fabrication and enables scalable production, proving promising for advanced molecular detection applications.
