The direct hydrogenation of CO 2 to methanol has become a very active research field because CO 2 can be prospectively recycled to mitigate greenhouse effect and store clean synthetic fuels. This reaction can be catalyzed by supported Cu catalysts and the catalysts display strong support or promoter effects. Sintering of Cu species accelerates the separation of Cu–oxide interfaces, reduces the active component, and diminishes the methanol selectivity. In this work, we report a Cu catalyst supported on La-modified SBA-15, where the Cu–LaO x interface is generated through the interaction of highly dispersed Cu nanoparticles with LaO x species bedded into the SBA-15 pore wall. The optimized Cu 1 La 0.2 /SBA-15 catalyst can achieve methanol selectivity up to 81.2% with no deterioration in activity over 100 h on stream compared with the La-free catalyst. A thorough study reveals that La species not only significantly improve the CO 2 adsorption but also enhance Cu dispersion to produce well-dispersed active sites. The H/D exchange experiments show that the methanol synthesis displays a strong thermodynamic isotope effect and the Cu–LaO x interface plays a crucial role for the methanol synthesis rate in CO 2 /D 2 feed. In situ DRIFTS studies reveal that *HCOO and *OCH 3 species are the key intermediates formed during the activation of CO 2 and methanol synthesis over the Cu 1 La 0.2 /SBA-15 catalyst.

A series of novel composite catalysts consisting of carbon spheres with encapsulated copper species were synthesized by incipient wetness impregnation . To improve catalytic activity , Cu location on the hollow carbon spheres was tuned by ultrasonic-assisted impregnation. The location, dispersion and chemical structure of copper species were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Temperature-programmed reduction, Transmission electron microscopy , N 2 -physisorption, Atomic absorption spectroscopy , X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and dissociative N 2 O adsorption measurements. The results showed that hollow mesoporous carbon spheres have uniform mesopores, which were more favorable to the confinement and dispersion of the active species than solid carbon spheres. The catalyst with Cu species highly dispersed in the mesopores of hollow carbon spheres exhibited superior catalytic performance compared with those with Cu species located outside the support or inside the hollow interiors. The catalyst with ultrafine Cu particles of 2 nm in the mesopores of the 200 nm carbon sphere exhibited a dimethyl carbonate Space-Time Yield of 218.4 mg·g −1 cat· h −1 , much higher than traditional activated carbon and ordered mesoporous carbon supported Cu catalysts. Interestingly, copper species in the cavity showed high autoreduction ability in spite of poor dispersion after activation, and this catalyst is anticipated to achieve better activity by improving Cu dispersion.

An efficient Cu@C/SiO 2 catalyst for the hydrogenation of dimethyl oxalate (DMO) to methyl glycolate (MG) was prepared by sorbitol-modified ammonia evaporation method followed by calcination in N 2 . The Cu@C/SiO 2 catalyst exhibited the superior catalytic activity and stability for DMO hydrogenation compared with the Cu/SiO 2 catalyst. The optimized Cu@C/SiO 2 –1/4 catalyst exhibited an MG yield of 63 % during 90 h long-term evaluation under temperature of 210 °C, pressure of 1.9 MPa, WHSV of 1.25 g DMO ·g Cu -1 ·h -1 and H 2 /DMO of 150. The characterization results indicated that Cu dispersion can be significantly enhanced by the addition of an appropriate amount of sorbitol and the surface Cu 0 and Cu + species were effectively regulated by the amount of sorbitol. The catalytic activity of Cu@C/SiO 2 was linearly dependent on specific area of Cu + species under the sufficient specific area of Cu° for H 2 dissociation. In addition, the sorbitol–derived carbon species on the catalyst were also favorable for the enhanced stability owing to the suppression of Cu sintering.

Heavy metal pollution, particularly Pb 2+ , poses a severe threat to human survival and ecosystem health due to its detrimental effects on organisms. Therefore, evaluating the concentration of Pb 2+ in the environment can help mitigate these risks in advance. In this study, Cu nanoparticles (Cu NPs) modified 2D Cu-Metal-organic frameworks (Cu(NPs)/Cu-MOFs@ITO) are prepared and loaded onto indium tin oxide (ITO) glass by an electrophoretic method to produce an electrochemical sensor (ECS) for Pb 2+ . Cu(NPs)/Cu-MOF-B was synthesized by a simple solvothermal method and characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM , Raman, FT-IR and other methods to analyze the crystal structure, molecular structure and microstructure. The Cu NPs improve the electron transfer ability, and the abundant surface amino groups of Cu-MOF can be used to bind Pb 2+ characterized by CVs and EISs. The excellent energy positions of valence and conduction bands of Cu(NPs)/Cu-MOF facilitate the electron migration in oxidation and reduction of Pb 2+ analyzed by XPS, Mott-Schottky and UV–vis absorption curves. The limit of detection (LOD) reaches 0.065 μM and the sensitivity reaches 99.04 μA μM -1 cm -2 . The Cu(NPs)/Cu-MOFs@ITO ECS can be successfully applied to detect Pb 2+ in water environments with high sensitivity, selectivity and reproducibility, which provides a feasible method for detecting Pb 2+ .

The interfacial reactions between Cu and Sn at the nanoscale, which is critical to the development of microbump (μ-bump) technology, require further understanding. Constructing the nanoscale interface for observing the interfacial behavior during reactions is a challenge. This study investigates the interfacial reactions within Cu/Sn composite nanoarrays fabricated through template electrodeposition to explore the growth process of intermetallic compounds (IMCs). The results reveal that polycrystalline Cu/Sn composite nanoarrays were successfully electroplated with varying Sn fractions, which regulated the growth of IMCs. Additionally, both polycrystalline copper/IMC and nanotwinned copper (nt-Cu)/IMC nanowires were analyzed to explore the effect of the Cu microstructure on IMC growth. Finally, full-IMC nanowires were prepared via high-temperature storage, where twins may act as vacancy sinks at this condition, preventing the formation of voids, which should hold great significance for guiding the preparation of full-IMC μ-bumps in transient liquid-phase (TLP) bonding. This work provides deeper insights into solder joint interface changes in electronic devices during operation.

As an efficient metal-trapping agent, conventional dithiocarbamate is prone to poor flocculation, and difficult recovery, and it is challenging to reuse it in applications. In our study, to address these problems, a novel and efficient chelating agent was developed in the form of a magnetic dithiocarbamate chelating resin. This resin was used to adsorb EDTA-Cu from wastewater. Furthermore, the Cu absorption mechanism of the new resin was investigated. The magnetic dithiocarbamate chelating resin is a composite polymer material with dithiocarbamate functional groups and a good magnetic response. The resin showed a high Cu removal efficiency of 99.19%, and an improved sedimentation performance. Moreover, the resin can be effectively recycled, and it was reused twice after desorption with 4% thiourea, it retained an absorption rate of 89.95%. The adsorption mechanism was based on chemical adsorption. The sulfur atoms of the resin had coordinated with the Cu of EDTA-Cu and formed a stable coordination compound. This research of the resin not only enriches the metal-trapping agent, but also provides a new idea for treating low concentration complex metal pollutants.

Ethanol steam reforming (ESR) has drawn great attention for sustainable H 2 production. Design active and sinter resistant nanocatalysts are critical issues for ESR reaction. Herein, a core–shell structured Pt-Cu@Ni-SiO 2 nanocomposite for ESR reaction has been synthesized via a one-pot facile encapsulation strategy, which is featured by highly active and sintering resistance for ESR reaction. Structural and morphological characterizations revealed that each Pt-Cu@Ni-SiO 2 nanocomposite contained a 3 nm Pt-Cu core and multiple Ni nanoparticles with diameters of around 3 nm anchored on the SiO 2 shell. The Pt-Cu@Ni-SiO 2 nanoreactor exhibited higher ethanol conversion (99.99%) and H 2 selectivity (70.32%) and an excellent stability with no loss of activity after 50 h of reaction at 450 °C. The advantages were originated from the ultra-small size of metal nanoparticles and the unique core–shell structure provides a great opportunity to give full play to the catalytic activity of active sites thus guaranteed excellent catalytic activity. Compared with the supported Pt-Cu@Ni-SiO 2 catalyst, the Pt-Cu@Ni-SiO 2 nanoreactor exhibit good stability and sintering resistance due to the encapsulation of the metal nanoparticles and the enhanced metal-support interaction. Thus, it is supposed that this type of catalyst opens a new strategy for the design of the ESR catalyst.

In this study, a high-efficiency magnetic heavy metal flocculant MF@AA was prepared based on carboxymethyl chitosan and magnetic Fe3O4. It was characterized by SEM, FTIR, XPS, XRD and VSM, and the Cu(II) removal rate was used as the evaluation basis for the preparation process. The effects of AMPS content, total monomer concentration, photoinitiator concentration and reaction time on the performance of MF@AA flocculation to remove Cu(II) were studied. The characterization results show that MF@AA has been successfully prepared and exhibits good magnetic induction characteristics. The synthesis results show that under the conditions of 10% AMPS content, 35% total monomer concentration, 0.04% photoinitiator concentration, and 1.5 h reaction time, the best yield of MF@AA is 77.69%. The best removal rate is 87.65%. In addition, the response surface optimization of the synthesis process of MF@AA was performed. The optimal synthesis ratio was finally determined as iron content 6.5%, CMFS: 29.5%, AM: 53.9%, AMPS: 10.1%. High-efficiency magnetic heavy metal flocculant MF@AA shows excellent flocculation performance in removing Cu(II). This research provides guidance and ideas for the development of efficient and low-cost flocculation technology to remove Cu(II) in wastewater.

Graphical To enhance the catalytic performance of Zn−NC in the hydrogenation of CO to dimethyl ether, highly dispersed bimetallic catalysts are synthesized through the pyrolysis different metal-doped ZIF. The incorporation of secondary metals (Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu) leads to distinct variations in catalytic performance. Among them, the introduction of Cu significantly improves catalytic activity. Highly dispersed bimetallic atomic-scale catalysts have garnered significant attention in syngas conversion filed due to the synergistic effects of the precisely structured bimetallic site, which facilitate the effective activation of CO. Despite their potential, synthesizing these catalysts to meet the specific application requirements remains challenging. Herein, various bimetallic catalysts were synthesized through the pyrolysis of the bimetallic ZIF precursors which were prepared by in situ doping of different metals (Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and Cu) into the ZIF-8 structure. In the presence of a highly dispersed and highly loaded Zn, the doping content in the ultimate second metallic catalysts varied between 0.15–1.20 wt % for different metals. The catalysts were systematically characterized using XRD, BET, TEM, XPS, Raman, ICP, and H 2 -TPD techniques. Among them, the Zn−NC regulated with Cu or Ni exhibited superior catalytic performance. Notably, the Cu−Zn−NC catalyst showed the highest activity, achieving a CO conversion of 32.8 % and optimal DME selectivity approaching 95.2 % in CO hydrogenation reactions. These enhanced performance metrics were attributed to the synergetic effects of bimetallic components. The incorporation of Cu not only preserved the original Zn−N structure but also preserved the catalytic performance unchanged. This preparation strategy is expected to filter out new research targets to use in diverse catalytic applications.

In water splitting processes, the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is one of the main kinetic control steps that should be triggered by high-efficiency catalysts. A series of Cu-based catalysts are considered potential candidates. This work provides a simple and effective strategy for fabricating large-scale copper-based catalysts by anodization on a copper foil at room temperature in a KOH solution. The representative petal-shaped CuO and Cu(OH)2 nanorods are obtained. The corresponding surface areas are 0.0197 and 1.966 m2/g, respectively. The surface wettability of Cu(OH)2 is lower than that of CuO. The catalytic performance is studied by linear sweep voltammetry (LSV). The results show that the potential of the OER for CuO at 10 mA/cm2 is 1.67 V, which reduces by 130 mV compared to Cu(OH)2. The CuO could keep 10 mA/cm2 after a 1 h chronoamperometry test, which is about 3 times higher than that of Cu(OH)2. To verify the distinguishing catalytic difference between CuO and Cu(OH)2, in situ Raman spectra have been recorded. Inspiringly, the CuIII active specie at 603 cm–1 is captured during the OER process on CuO instead of Cu(OH)2. The related mechanism has been discussed in detail.

The frequently used chloroplatinic acid or other Pt precursors containing Cl element during the preparation process of Pt-based catalysts lead to catalyst poisoning and instability. In this work, a chlorine-free PtCu(N)/C R-F catalyst with a hollow sphere structure was successfully synthesized by employing [Pt(NH 3 ) 4 ](OH) 2 and [Cu(NH 3 ) 4 ](OH) 2 as the chlorine-free metal precursors, which using the strong electrostatic adsorption (SEA) between positively charged metal precursor ions and the negatively charged oxygen-containing functional groups (OCFGs) on the carbon support (C R-F ) and combined with the impregnation reduction method. Compared to commercial Pt/C, the experimental results show that the PtCu(N)/C R-F catalyst, displays better ORR performance under acidic condition, the onset and half-wave potentials are 0.961 V (vs. RHE) and 0.827 V (vs. RHE), respectively. Furthermore, it also shows a significant performance advantage in a gas diffusion electrode (GDE) half-cell. Density-functional theory (DFT) calculations show that the introduction of Cu has adjusted the electronic structure of Pt, weakened the adsorption of oxygen-containing intermediates, and ultimately enhanced the catalytic activity and stability of ORR. This work presents a simple and efficient method for preparing chlorine-free Pt-based catalysts.

Persulfate (PS)-based advanced oxidation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in carbonate-rich water is severely constrained by radical scavenging and surface passivation of iron-based activators. Here, a dithionite–zerovalent iron–copper (DTN–ZVI–Cu) ternary system was developed to promote persulfate activation toward predominantly non-radical oxidation under bicarbonate-rich conditions. DTN and ZVI accelerated Cu(II)-to-Cu(I) reduction while simultaneously regenerating the ZVI surface, thereby sustaining Cu-centered redox turnover and facilitating the formation of Cu(III)-like oxidizing species. In parallel, DTN promoted sulfur-centered conversion pathways that favored 1 O 2 generation. These non-radical oxidizing pathways are generally less susceptible to inorganic-anion scavenging than conventional sulfate and hydroxyl radicals. Under standard conditions, the system achieved 91% acenaphthene removal within 60 min ( k obs = 0.039 min −1 ), an 8.7-fold kinetic enhancement over ZVI/PS alone. Moderate bicarbonate further promoted degradation, with k obs reaching 0.13 min −1 at 250 mg/L HCO 3 − , which is consistent with a plausible role of copper–carbonate complexation in stabilizing Cu redox cycling and favoring non-radical oxidation pathways. XPS analysis suggested that DTN–ZVI coupling elevated the reactive copper pool (Cu(I) + Cu(III)) to 57% of total surface copper. Applied to synthetic wastewaters, the system maintained 90–96% PAH removal at optimal dosages, indicating strong performance across complex saline matrices. This work demonstrates the feasibility of using coexisting Cu(II) as a catalytic resource for non-radical persulfate activation in carbonate-rich water.
