In this study, a dual-emission ratiometric fluorescent materials, rhodamine B-functionalized terbium-based metal-organic frameworks (RhB@Tb-MOFs), were synthesized through an ultrasonic immersion approach. The resulting RhB@Tb-MOFs demonstrate a distinct red-green dual emission, generating an easily distinguishable orange-red luminescence with excellent stability across a wide pH range and aqueous environments. This novel probe demonstrates excellent selectivity along with outstanding anti-interference capability, achieving a detection limit as low as 0.219 μM for S 2− . Moreover, the sensing mechanism was studied in detail, which is attributed to a dynamic quenching mechanism. This study highlights a versatile and generalizable approach for enhancing luminescence-based sensing performance through the encapsulation of fluorescent dyes in Ln-MOFs, presenting significant potential for environmental monitoring and bioanalytical applications.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as promising filler materials for gas separation applications; however, most conventional MOFs rely predominantly on a single dominant separation mechanism, which constrains their maximum achievable performance. To address this limitation, a series of isoreticular ionic metal-organic frameworks (iMOFs), denoted as Ni-btz-X (where X = Cl, Br, and BF 4 − ), were designed and synthesized through an anion regulation strategy. These iMOFs were further incorporated into a polymer of intrinsic microporosity (PIM-1) to construct mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) for CO 2 /N 2 separation. Systematic investigations into the effects of anion substitution revealed that the Ni-btz-BF 4 /PIM-1 MMMs exhibited exceptional CO 2 recognition capabilities. This superior performance is attributed to the synergistic interplay between thermodynamic (enhanced CO 2 adsorption) and kinetic (selective molecular diffusion) factors, effectively overcoming the intrinsic limitations based on a single mechanism. The MMM containing 20 wt% Ni-btz-BF 4 achieved a CO 2 permeability of 10,595.2 barrer and a CO 2 /N 2 selectivity of 46.7, exceeding the 2019 Robeson upper bound. Further analyses employing solution-diffusion coefficients and grand canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) simulations further confirmed that the counterions within the iMOFs precisely regulate the gas adsorption and diffusion behaviors by tuning pore size and enhancing affinity toward CO 2 molecules. Additionally, robust pressure resistance, adaptability to a wide temperature range, and commendable stability of 20% Ni-btz-BF 4 /PIM-1 MMM were also confirmed. This work highlights the potential of anion regulation as a versatile strategy for designing high-performance MOF-based MMMs, offering a promising solution for efficient CO 2 /N 2 separation in industrial applications.

Efficient CO 2 separation is pivotal to lowering the energy consumption and costs of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), and thin-film composite membranes (TFCMs) with high permeance have emerged as a preferred solution for carbon neutrality and global climate change mitigation. Polyethyleneimine (PEI) exhibits excellent CO 2 adsorption capability owing to its unique amino structure, however, its excessive accumulation on the substrate surface and pore penetration lead to an overly thick functional layer, which significantly impairs the gas permeability of TFCMs. This work successfully developed a novel ultrathin polyethyleneimine (PEI) composite membrane based on MOFs nanosheets gutter layer via interfacial polymerization. Benefiting from the significant improvement of the surface properties of substrate by the MOFs nanosheets gutter layer, the prepared PEI functional layer exhibited an ultrathin thickness less than 135 nm with a highly ordered structure. The CO 2 permeance reached 779.6 GPU, with excellent selectivities of 59.1 for CO 2 /N 2 and 54.1 for CO 2 /CH 4 . The resulting TFCMs demonstrated excellent CO 2 separation performance, surpassing the 2008 and 2019 upper bound while maintaining long-term separation stability. The study provided new insights into the precise design and controllable preparation of gas separation membranes, offering valuable reference for the industrial development of high-performance CO 2 separation membranes.

A nanocoral like composite was prepared by simply grinding the Fe-based metal-organic framework (NH 2 -MIL-53), Co-based metal-organic framework (ZIF-67) and dicyandiamide (DCDA) and subsequent pyrolysis treatment. The prepared composites displayed the hierarchical porous structure, the large specific surface area , and abundant N catalytic active sites. The optimal composite exhibited an excellent oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity with a half-wave potential (E 1/2 ) of 0.87 V (vs. reversible hydrogen electrode, RHE) which was higher than that of the commercial 20 wt% Pt/C. At the same time, the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) overpotential of the composite at 10 mA cm −2 (E j10 ) was 1.563 V, which was also lower than that of the commercial RuO 2 under the same conditions. The doping of DCDA increased the content of N, significantly improving the ORR and OER activities of the composites. The prepared composite exhibited excellent ORR/OER bifunctional catalytic activity with the ORR/OER potential gap (the potential difference, i.e., ΔE = E j10 - E 1/2 ) of only 0.693 V, lower than that of Pt/C + RuO 2 (ΔE = 0.763 V) under the same conditions. Assembled in the Zn-air battery, the prepared composite showed a better performance than Pt/C + RuO 2 (m: m = 1: 1). It provided a promising strategy for preparing the efficient bifunctional catalyst .

This work explores an enrichment integrated derivatization strategy for diols-containing short-chain aliphatic compounds (DSCAs) by using cyclodextrin (CD)-metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) as adsorbents. For this purpose, α-, β-, γ-CD-MOFs with different sizes of hydrophobic cavities were prepared and their encapsulation ability towards polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, especially phenylboronic acid (PBA), was investigated. It is found that the formed supramolecular adsorbents PBA@CD-MOFs can simultaneously perform the enrichment and derivatization of DSCAs in organic solution, simplifying the sample pre-treatment procedure of the DSCAs. Finally, an analytical method based on solid-phase extraction combined with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was established for the detection of 3-monochloropropane-1,2-diol (3-MCPD) in canned samples. The relative recoveries of three analytes are 82.4 to 87.5 %, the intra- and inter-day relative standard deviations (RSDs) are less than 10.9 %, and the limits of detection (LODs) are 0.934–2.77 ng∙g −1 . In conclusion, the enrichment integrated derivatization strategy can be used as an alternative to the traditional sample pretreatment method, which usually requires enrichment, elution and derivatization for the detection of DSCAs in various food samples.

This work synthesized a novel adsorbent by doping COF and MIL-125(Ti) in the nanoparticles Fe 3 O 4 . The obtained results showed that the doping of COF and MIL-125(Ti) had a positive effect on enhancing the specific surface area and adsorption capacity. Moreover, the adsorption process has been confirmed to follow the Langmuir model and pseudo-second-order kinetic, and the maximum adsorption capacity for tetracycline and tebuconazole was 138.1 mg/g and 87.73 mg/g, respectively. Finally, the adsorbent displayed an excellent adsorption performance in three kinds of actual environmental water samples. The mechanics of the adsorption process mainly involved π-π stacking interaction, hydrogen-bonding interaction, electrostatic interaction, and complexation interaction. In short, the synthesized magnetic adsorbent displayed a good application potential for removing tetracycline and tebuconazole from wastewater.

By introducing functional groups into the isophthalate ligand to decorate the pore of the MOFs, gas adsorption and separation performance can be tunable. In this paper, two isostructural 2D Co-MOFs, [Co(5-MIA)(bpy)]·H 2 O ( 1 ) and [Co(5-EIA)(bpy)]·H 2 O ( 2 ) (5-H 2 MIA = 5-methoxyl-isophthalic acid; 5-H 2 EIA = 5-ethyoxyl-isophthalic acid; bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine), with different functionalized pore surfaces and channel sizes were designed and constructed. The structures and performance of the two Co-MOFs were analyzed by SCXRD, PXRD, IR, TGA, and gas sorption (CO 2 , C 2 H 2 , CH 4 , CO, and N 2 ). Attributed to the methoxyl of isophthalate skeleton, 1a (activated 1 ) shows enhanced CO 2 uptake over other gases. In spite of decreased pore sizes (3.49 Å) compared with 2a (4.38 Å), the CO 2 uptake of 1a (43.41 cm 3 g −1 ) is larger than that of 2a (22.39 cm 3 g −1 ) at 298 K and 100 kPa. Compound 1 incorporates methoxyl groups into the narrow channel, and exhibits the cooperative effect of CO 2 -preferential due to adsorbent-adsorbate coactions and size sieving. GCMC simulation has been used to explore the adsorption coactions of CO 2 and 1 , and the results confirmed that the methoxyl groups in the channel are the main binding sites of CO 2 . At ambient temperature and 100 kPa, the IAST selectivities of CO 2 /C 2 H 2 (1:1), CO 2 /CH 4 (1:1), C 2 H 2 /CH 4 (1:1), CO 2 /CO (1:2) and CO 2 /N 2 (15:85) on 1a were 2.6, 39.3, 13.3, 282 and 1433, respectively. The easy activation and regeneration, excellent thermal and humidity stability, and good reusability, make 1 a hopeful adsorbent for adsorption and separation of CO 2 .

A molecularly imprinted photoelectrochemical sensor was successfully designed for sensitive detection of norfloxacin (NOR) based on poly ( o -phenylenediamine) (PoPD) sensitized g-C 3 N 4 /Zr-MOFs(Fe) composite. Herein g-C 3 N 4 /Zr-MOFs(Fe) heterojunction composite was explored as photoresponsive oxidase mimic and photoactive material for the purpose of enhancing photoelectrochemical performances. In addition, PoPD molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) were introduced not only to act as the recognition element for selective performance, but also to possess photosensitive effect, which enhanced the photocurrent of sensor. SEM, element mapping method, XRD, UV–Vis and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were employed for the characterization of the structural, chemical composition, optical and electrical properties of g-C 3 N 4 /Zr-MOFs(Fe) composite. Thanks to the photoresponsive oxidase mimic property and the selectivity of MIPs, the as-prepared sensor presented a good linear range of from 1.0 × 10 −8 mol/L to 2.0 × 10 −6 mol/L with NOR and a limit of detection of 5.7 × 10 −9 mol/L. Moreover, the sensor platform has been proved to have excellent selectivity and real sample application.

Assembling metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) into high-performance macroscopic membranes is crucial but still challenging. MOF-containing hybrid membranes can effectively integrate the advantages of flexible guest materials and MOFs. Nevertheless, the inherent limitations in fully harnessing the distinct characteristics of MOFs persist due to the substantial guest material content necessitated in membrane fabrication. Herein, inspired by the rigid and flexible structures in biological systems, rigid MIP-202(Zr) and defective MIP-202(Zr) (D-MIP-202(Zr)) modified flexible graphene oxide (GO) sheets are synthesized in situ and then assembled into a rigid-flexible coupled MOF-based membrane. The defects in D-MIP-202(Zr) are introduced by using acetic acid as the modulation agent. The obtained GO@MIP-202(Zr) membrane possesses a hierarchical porous structure with a 99 wt% MOF proportion, which is higher than the GO@D-MIP-202(Zr) (75 wt%) membrane with a compact bulge-structured surface. The water permeability of the GO@MIP-202(Zr) membrane attains remarkedly 5762.92 L h −1 m −2 bar −1 , which is 960 and 2.6 times higher than that of the GO membrane and GO@D-MIP-202(Zr) membrane. Additionally, benefiting from the superhydrophilicity and underwater superoleophobicity, the resultant membrane not only demonstrates high rejection for oil-water emulsions but also exhibits exceptional recyclability and anti-fouling ability. These findings provide valuable insights into the assembly of MOFs into high-performance membranes.

A smart fluorescent pyrene-based MOFs ( HPU-26 ) was synthesized by the solvothermal method, which possessed multi-stimuli-responsive properties and could detect water content in common organic solvents . The reversible multicolor fluorescent switching between yellowish green and cyan were observed under the stimulation of force, heating, and acid-base vapors. PXRD pattern, DSC curve, FI-IR spectra and the solid-state UV–vis absorption spectra were conducted to prove that the changes of π - conjugation induced the transformations between excimer and monomer formation under external stimulation, thus resulting in different fluorescent properties. In addition, HPU-26 could realize the detection of water content by remarkable change of fluorescent color from yellowish green to blue with increasing the water content in common organic solvents, which was attributed to the decomposition of crystal structure. The limit of detection (LOD) values of HPU-26 for detecting the water content in EtOH, DMA, Acetone and ACN were determined as 0.0260 %, 0.0578 %, 0.1978 %, and 0.5637 % (v/v), respectively. Furthermore, HPU-26 could be applied in advanced anti-counterfeiting and convenient visual detection of water content in common organic solvents by smartphone-based software.

Catalytic upgrading lignin-derived bio-oil with high oxygen content to directly usable transport fuel through hydrotreatment is highly desirable, but still remains a challenge. In this work, a series of Co-based catalysts were synthetized using metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) as a structure-directing agent and lignin as a renewable carbon precursor via a simple hydrothermal method. Among these catalysts, Co/C-EL-0.5–500 showed the best catalytic hydrotreatment activity, affording 100% guaiacol conversion with 90% cyclohexanol yield under the conditions of 240 °C, 0 MPa N 2 and 4 h. According to the characterization results of XRD, SEM, TEM, BET, ICP, NH3-TPD and XPS, the excellent performance of Co/C-EL-0.5–500 was attributed to large specific surface area, small Co particle size, and optimal acidity. The possible reaction pathway was proposed based on the product distribution. In addition, isopropanol was used as H-donor instead of extra hydrogen, and we hope that it could provide a novel strategy for bio-oil upgrading.

Fe-based MOFs (Fe-MOFs) are deemed promising Fenton-like catalysts due to their well-developed pores and accessible active sites. However, their inferior catalytic activity, iron leaching, and low H2O2 utilization always hinder their application as Fe-based MOF catalysts. In this work, we manipulated the structure of Fe-oxo nodes in MIL-88B(Fe) via a CuI species substitution method, affording a mixed-valence (Cu-incorporated Fe-MOFs) with highly improved Fenton-like performance. It is found that the CuI serves as a shuttle to promote transfer between FeII/FeIII, inducing the formation of a larger amount of stable FeII sites, which was proven by experimental and DFT calculation results. A linear relationship was observed for the Fenton-like performance and the amount of CuI species for the catalysts. The corresponding value of the •OH formation is 2.17 eV for Cu-incorporated MIL-88B(Fe), which is significantly lower than that of MIL-88B(Fe) (2.69 eV). Meanwhile, the enriched CuI species suppress Fe species leaching during the catalytic reaction. The Fe-ion leakage of 0.4Cu@MIL-88B is very tiny (0.01–0.03 mg/L), significantly less than that of MIL-88B (2.00–3.02 mg/L). At the same time, H2O2 utilization for 0.4Cu@ MIL-88B(Fe) is 88%, which is almost 4.4 times that of pure MIL-88B(Fe). This work provides insights into the rational design of Fe-MOFs as promising Fenton-like catalysts for wastewater treatment.
