Objectives To investigate the effect of neutral 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate salt (MDP-Na) on the dentin bond strength and remineralization potential of etch-&-rinse adhesive. Methods Two experimental etch-&-rinse adhesives were formulated by incorporating 0 wt% (E0) or 20 wt% (E20) neutral MDP-Na into a basic primer. A commercial adhesive, Adper Single Bond 2 (SB, 3 M ESPE), served as the control. Sixty prepared teeth were randomly allocated into three groups ( n = 20) and bonded using either one of the experimental adhesives or SB. Following 24 h of water storage, the bonded specimens were sectioned into resin-dentin sticks, with four resin-dentin sticks obtained from each tooth for microtensile bond strength (MTBS) test. Half of the sticks from each group were immediately subjected to tensile loading using a microtensile tester at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min, while the other half underwent tensile loading after 6-month incubation in artificial saliva (AS). The degree of conversion (DC) of both the control and experimental adhesives ( n = 6 in each group) and the adsorption properties of MDP-Na on the dentin organic matrix ( n = 5 in each group) were determined using Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry. Furthermore, the effectiveness of neutral MDP-Na in promoting the mineralization of two-dimensional collagen fibrils and the adhesive-dentin interface was explored using transmission electron microscopy and selected-area electron diffraction. Two- and one-way ANOVA was employed to assess the impact of adhesive type and water storage on dentin bond strength and the DC (α = 0.05). Results The addition of MDP-Na into the primer increased both the short- and long-term MTBS of the experimental adhesives ( p = 0.00). No difference was noted in the DC between the control, E0 and E20 groups ( p = 0.366). The MDP-Na remained absorbed on the demineralized dentin even after thorough rinsing. The intra- and extra-fibrillar mineralization of the two-dimensional collagen fibril and dentin bond hybrid layer was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy and selected-area electron diffraction when the primer was added with MDP-Na. Conclusions The use of neutral MDP-Na results in high-quality hybrid layer that increase the dentin bond strength of etch-&-rinse adhesive and provides the adhesive with remineralizing capability. This approach may represent a suitable bonding strategy for improving the dentin bond strength and durability of etch-&-rinse adhesive.

Dual-ion batteries are attracting much attention due to the joint participation of anions and cations in the energy storage process. However, this unique battery configuration imposes high demands on the cathode, which typically presents an inferior rate performance. Herein, we employ graphite in different microcrystalline sizes as cathodes, associated with high concentration electrolyte to construct sodium dual-ion batteries. The results of in-situ XRD and Raman evidence that the surface effect is enhanced by suitably small graphite microcrystals, where a greater surface involvement affords more electro-activated regions for the ions. Furthermore, the analysis of sputtering XPS confirms that the PF6- is accompanied by the co-intercalation of Na+ into cathodes by constructing the model of concentration effect, thus accelerating the kinetic process. In conclusion, the co-intercalation of PF6- together with Na+ is demonstrated under the influence of enhanced surface concentration effect in cathodes, and thus the cathodes exhibit a superior rate performance with a capacity of 103.6 mAh g-1 at a rate of 2 C and a rate retention of 94.8% even at 50 C. This work provides new insights to explain the mechanism of ion intercalation in dual-ion batteries and offers a perspective for the construction of high energy storage systems.

Air stability is a crucial factor in the practical application of a battery material, as it profoundly affects the material's preparation, storage, and electrode fabrication processes. Sodium iron sulfate cathodes, despite their attractive attributes in cost and electrochemical performance, are widely believed to be unstable upon air exposure because of the sulfate group. Here we report remarkable air-stability of the Na 2 Fe(SO 4 ) 2 -based (NFS) cathodes (minimal decay in 20 % RH air for 60 days, 91.9 % capacity retention after 3500 cycles in half cells) and their outstanding cycle performance in practically relevant pouch-type full cells (∼100 Wh kg -1 specific energy, >1000 cycle-life). Although the NFS cathodes do react with moisture H 2 O to produce Na 2 Fe(SO 4 ) 2 ⋅4H 2 O but the hydration is spatially confined at the NFS particles’ surface and not propagating into their bulk. Further, the structural changes are reversible when the surface-hydrated NFS particles are heated in the typical electrode vacuum-drying process, avoiding extra treatment and additional cost. This work reveals the promising properties of the NFS cathode materials towards high-performance and sustainable Na-ion batteries.

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) is well known as a coenzyme involved in many redox reactions in cellular energy metabolism, or as a substrate for many NAD + -consuming enzymes, including those that generate the second messenger cyclic ADP-ribose or deacetylate proteins (e.g., histones). The role of NAD in non-catalytic proteins is poorly understood. IRBIT and L-IRBIT (the IRBITs) are two cytosolic proteins that are structurally related to dehydrogenases but lack catalytic activity. Instead, by interacting directly with their targets, the IRBITs modulate the function of numerous proteins with important roles, ranging from Ca 2+ signaling and intracellular pH (pH i ) regulation to DNA metabolism to autophagy. Among the targets of the IRBITs is the Na + -HCO 3 − cotransporter NBCe1-B, which plays a central role in intracellular pH (pH i ) regulation and epithelial electrolyte transport. Here, we demonstrate that NAD modulates NBCe1-B activation by serving as a cofactor of IRBIT or L-IRBIT. Blocking NAD salvage pathway greatly decreases NBCe1-B activation by the IRBITs. Administration of the oxidized form NAD + enhances, whereas the reduced form NADH decreases NBCe1-B activity. Our study represents the first example in which the redox state of NAD, via IRBIT or L-IRBIT, modulates the function of a membrane transport protein. Our findings reveal a new role of NAD and greatly expand our understanding of NAD biology. Because the NAD redox state fluctuates greatly with metabolic status, our work provides insight into how, via the IRBITs, energy metabolism could affect pH i regulation and many other IRBIT-dependent processes.

Thermal stability holds particular significance for phosphors intended for LEDs . Abnormal thermal quenching was successfully reached by strategic point defect engineering by inserting Frenkel defects and nonequivalent substitution defects in novel Sm 3+ ions doped Na-rich distorted double perovskite Na 1.5 La 1.5 TeO 6 phosphors. Its integral intensity at 420 K (115.03 %) was far higher than that of room temperature . Besides, the phosphors exhibited a pronounced orange-red emission peak at 644 nm when excited at 404 nm, which was ascribed to the 4 G 5/2 - 6 H 9/2 transition of Sm 3+ ions. The concentration quenching phenomenon resulting from dipole-dipole interactions was observed in the phosphors, and the optimal concentration of dopant Sm 3+ was determined to be 1 mol%. After calculation, it was surprising that the color purity values of all phosphors were not less than 99.9 %. Additionally, the internal quantum efficiency (IQE) reached 65.30 %, and the activation energy ( E a ) of Na 1.5 La 1.5 TeO 6 :1 mol%Sm 3+ was 0.570 eV. Meanwhile, the emission spectrum of the produced orange-red light emitting diodes (LEDs) exhibited a close correspondence with the absorption curves of various plant pigments (chlorophyll b , allophycocyanin, phycocyanin, phytochrome red and far red (P R and P FR )). The prepared white light emitting diodes (WLEDs) possessed low correlated color temperature (CCT) of 4769 K and as high general color rendering index (CRI, R a ) value as 91. In summary, the phosphors presented promising options for plant-cultivating LEDs and high CRI WLEDs based on their superior optical and thermal properties .

Herein, we reported two alkali metal molybdenum(VI) iodates, namely, NaMoO 3 (IO 3 ) and γ-KMoO 3 (IO 3 ) with 1D and 3D [MoO 3 (IO 3 )] − anionic architectures, respectively. The novel 1D chain in NaMoO 3 (IO 3 ) and the 3D network in γ-KMoO 3 (IO 3 ) are constructed by the 0D Λ-shaped cis -[MoO 4 (IO 3 ) 2 ] 4− building units interconnected by bridging IO 3 − anions as well as the corner-sharing of oxo anions. Importantly, the polar γ-KMoO 3 (IO 3 ) exhibits a very large second-harmonic generation (SHG) effect of 12 × KH 2 PO 4 (KDP) under 1064 nm laser radiation, a high laser-Induced damage threshold value (52 × AgGaS 2 ), and a moderate birefringence of 0.087@1064 nm, whereas the centrosymmetric NaMoO 3 (IO 3 ) has a large birefringence of 0.208@1064 nm. This study further proves the useful route of exploring promising optical materials via assembling the 0D basic building units into higher dimensional anionic architectures.

Na-metal halide batteries are regarded as one of the most promising candidates for large-scale energy storage systems owing to their high energy density and high safety. However, the problems of low kinetics and poor stability caused by the low-conductive chlorides have restricted the development of Na-metal halide batteries. Here, we design a facile approach that combines electrospinning and electrodeposition to prepare electrodes with a nanostructured composite containing carbon nanofibers and Ni-Fe alloy (CNF@Ni-Fe alloy). It is confirmed that the Ni-Fe alloy can stably be oxidized and reformed when discharges from 2.36 V to 2.32 V. Benefiting from the unique nanoscale arrangement of Ni-Fe, the heterogeneous distribution of FeCl 2 and NiCl 2 effectively overcomes the block of low-conductive chlorides. Furthermore, the coreaction of Ni 2+ and Fe 2+ directly decreases the polarization potential, resulting in the improvement of reaction kinetics. Notably, batteries with the CNF@Ni-Fe alloy display a high specific capacity of 199.7 mAh g −1 and a capacity retention rate of 99% after 50 cycles at 0.6 C. The CNF@Ni-Fe alloy cathodes also deliver long-term stability with 104.5 mAh g −1 capacity retention after 600 cycles at 2 C and a good rate capability of 5 C.

Manganese dioxide has been considered to be one of the most attractive electrode materials for electrochemical energy storage applications owing to its high theoretical specific capacitance, low cost, abundant natural reserves and eco-friendliness. However, MnO2 has poor conductivity, which limits rate capability, and thus hinders the application of MnO2 in energy storage. Here we attempt to take advantage of cobalt-based metal organic frameworks derived nanoporous carbon (MOF-NPC) to improve the electrochemical performance of MnO2-based composite electrodes. We fabricated Na+-MnO2/MOF-NPC hybrid electrode by a simple redox reaction method. Accordingly, the hybrid electrode reaches a specific capacitance of 217.0 F g−1, which is significantly better than that of the individual components. Then the contribution of capacitance and diffusion to the whole is analyzed quantitatively. The capacitance retains 82.80% when the current density increases from 2 A g−1 to 20 A g−1. After 5000 cycles, the total capacitance loss is only 9%. Moreover, an asymmetric supercapacitor is assembled using Na+-MnO2/NPC composite and activated carbon as positive and negative electrodes, respectively. The asymmetric supercapacitor has the capacitance retention of 82% after 3000 cycles. These results provide a promising direction for designing high-performance supercapacitors.

Herein, the preparation of CoSb nanoparticles embedded in carbon nanofibers with a raised surface (N-doped CoSb@C nanofibers) via the electrospinning method is reported for the first time. The distinct structure facilitates the pseudocapacitive behaviors, which is the key to obtain fast kinetics and long cyclability. N and Co elements can not only optimize the electronic configuration but also buffer the volume changes of the material during cycling. For potassium-ion batteries, the capacity maintains 250 mA h g−1 after 500 cycles at 1 A g−1, and for sodium-ion batteries, the capacity keeps 413 mA h g−1 after 1000 cycles at 1 A g−1. Thus, this work makes a great contribution towards exploring high-capacity anodes for practical potassium-ion batteries and sodium-ion batteries.

Transition metal phosphides (TMPs) are considered satisfactory anode candidates for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to their high energy density and modest plateau. However, the TMPs anode suffers from poor cycling and rate properties owing to the negative effects of severe volumetric expansion and sluggish reaction kinetics. Herein, a novel structure of porous core/shell CoP@N-C nano polyhedral embedding on 2D MXene nanosheets (CoP@N-C/MXene) was synthesized by self-assembly and in-situ phosphorization methods. The porous CoP@N-C with the unique core/shell structure benefits the infiltration of electrolytes and alleviates the volumetric change. Besides, high-conductive 2D MXene nanosheets could enhance electrical conductivity and charge transfer kinetics, and effectively inhibit CoP@N-C pulverization and agglomeration. Based on the above advantages, the as-prepared CoP@N-C/MXene anode delivers an excellent cycling capacity, outstanding rate capability and low-temperature high-rate capability. This synthetic strategy of CoP@N-C/MXene architecture can be extended to other materials which are promising for SIBs electrodes.

The role of Na-content on the structural stability and electrochemical performance of P2/O3-type cathode was established. • The structural stability of P2/O3-type Na x Ni 0.23 Mn 0.57 Fe 0.1 Cu 0.1 O 2 cathode is improved by Cu/Fe co-doping. • High Na-content improves the Na⁺ diffusion coefficient as well as rate performance of Na x Ni 0.23 Mn 0.57 Fe 0.1 Cu 0.1 O 2 cathode. P2/O3 biphasic layered oxide cathodes combine the structural stability and fast Na + transport of the P2 phase with the high Na + storage capacity, high operating voltage of the O3 phase. In order to deeply investigate the effect of P2/O3 biphasic composition on the electrochemical performance, Na x Ni 0.23 Mn 0.57 Cu 0.1 Fe 0.1 O 2 samples (NMCF- x ) with the tunable P2/O3 biphasic composition were prepared. The X-ray diffraction results show that the relative ratio of O3 phase increases from 48.53% to 84.46% with increasing Na content from x = 0.70 to x = 0.85. The O3 phase-rich NMCF-0.85 cathode exhibits high rate performance (130.1 and 94.6 mAh g –1 at 0.2C and 5C, respectively) and high capacity retention (69.8% after 500 cycles at 5C). The galvanostatic intermittent titration analysis confirms that the Na + diffusion coefficient reaches as high as 6.99 × 10 –11 cm 2 s –1 . These excellent performances are ascribed to the fact that Cu/Fe co-doping and high Na content suppress the unfavorable P2-O2 phase transition and Na + /vacancy ordering in the NMCF-0.85 when charged to high potential. Thus, this finding can provide profound implications for developing stable layered oxide cathode materials with adjustable P2/O3 biphase for high-energy Na + storage. Cu/Fe co-doping P2/O3 hybrid layered oxide cathodes for SIBs have been prepared through adjusting Na-content, revealing the influence of P2/O3 composition to cycling performance. P2-Na 0.67 Ni 0.33 Mn 0.67 O 2 is considered a promising cathode material for sodium-ion batteries. However, its practical application is still hindered by sluggish Na + diffusion kinetics and structural degradation caused by repeated Na + intercalation/deintercalation during cycling. Herein, by transforming the precursor structure from olive-like hierarchical structure to the peanut-like hierarchical structure, and finally to a microsphere-like hierarchical structure, a P2-Na 0.67 Ni 0.33 Mn 0.67 O 2 cathode material with a hollow hierarchical microsphere structure was obtained. This unique structure shortens Na + diffusion pathways, facilitates electrolyte infiltration, and effectively buffers volume variation during cycling. ICP-MS results indicate that the optimized sample has a relatively higher Na content, which may contribute to a higher charge capacity. SEM and XRD analyses after cycling reveal that the hollow hierarchical microsphere cathode suppresses particle fragmentation and structural degradation, while ex-situ XRD confirms its improved structural reversibility during charge/discharge. Intermittent current titration and multi-sweep cyclic voltammetry further demonstrate higher Na + diffusion coefficients. As a result, the optimized cathode delivers 79.3 mA h g −1 at 10C, corresponding to 76% of the capacity at 0.1C, and 75% higher than that of the olive-like cathode. It also achieves stable cycling for 2000 cycles at 5C, with capacity retentions of 87.51%, 76.83%, and 63.67% after 500, 1000, and 2000 cycles.
