Hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) is considered to be the third endogenous gas messenger after nitric oxide and carbon monoxide , and is closely related to physiological and pathological functions of human being. Rapid and real-time monitoring of endogenous H 2 S production in living cells is of great significance for clinical diagnoses of related disease and in-depth investigation of pathological processes. The application of electrochemical sensors has become a promising method to achieve real-time H 2 S monitoring comparing to other methods. Up to now, low-cost, and highly sensitive electrocatalysts for H 2 S detection are conspicuously scarce. Herein, we developed a high-efficient method to construct a H 2 S electrochemical sensor, which configure dissolved–H 2 S–sensitive electrochemical sensor using porous Pt-modified copper oxide (Pt–CuO) as electrocatalyst. The obtained sensor possessed remarkable H 2 S detection performance, achieving the detection limit of 0.5 ppm and apparent selectivity toward various gases (e.g., ammonia, nitrogen dioxide , and carbon dioxide). The electrochemical sensor was also applied for monitoring H 2 S released from mesenchymal stem cells. The enhanced sensing performance was attributed to: (1) electrocatalytic reaction between CuO and [H 2 S] (H 2 S and HS − ) was observed in the cyclic voltammetry curves with oxidation current peaks; (2) Pt catalytic activity promoted electron transfer during the detection process and further decreasing Pt–CuO resistance; and (3) enhanced diffusion of detection molecules/ions, which increased the reactivity sites through forming cross porous structures using sodium carbonate as sacrifice template. The proposed Pt–CuO-based electrochemical sensor shows great potential for applications in clinical diagnoses, and provides effective means to understand the role of H 2 S in biological processes.

Platinum catalysts with {111} surface has obvious advantages, but the control of {111} exposure usually requires surfactants which cover the surface and decrease the catalytic performance. In this paper, tetrahedral platinum nanoparticle catalysts were successfully prepared with a simple one-step hydrothermal method and their size were successfully controlled under sub-5 nm. The tetrahedral morphology was controlled through the decomposition of dimethylamine by DMF and the small size was determined by alcohol acid radical. Because of the profitable effect of the amines for the tetrahedral morphology, no surfactant was need during the preparation. The catalysis activity was assured by the tetrahedral morphology with Pt {111} exposure without the surfactant covering, and the small size further increased the number of activity sites. For HOR, the catalyst showed higher activity, stronger anti-CO poisoning performance and longer stability than those of commercial catalyst with the same platinum load. For ORR, the catalyst also showed better performances which further promoted the four-electron reaction. Our simple preparation method successfully achieved the aims of the morphology control, size control and the elimination of surfactant, which effectively assured the good catalyst performances. The simple preparation path of such good catalysts shows a great application potential. Graphical Abstract

As the efficient catalysts are synthesized by a simple strategy, photocatalysis offers a sustainable route to solve the problem of environmentally sound treatment of industrial dye wastewater. Herein, Pt-doped TiO2with MIL-125 as the backbone has been fabricated using thermal synthesis. The photocatalytic efficiency of the synthesized catalyst samples was tested using Rhodamine B (RhB) as the contaminant model. The physicochemical properties of the solid specimens were characterized using XRD, SEM, TEM, BET and EDX techniques. The photocatalytic degradation experiments showed that the photocatalytic degradation of RhB by M-Pt-TiO2was 98.97% after 30 min of degradation. The radical capture experiments showed that superoxide radicals and conduction band electrons as reactive oxygen species played a major role in the degradation process. After four cycles, the photocatalytic activity of M-Pt-TiO2decreased from 98.4% to 94.9%, indicating that the photocatalyst sample had good photocatalytic stability.Keywords:metal-organic framework;Pt-TiO2;photocatalysis;dye wastewater;Rhodamine B

Lead-based piezoelectric ceramics are the preferred material for commercial piezoelectric ceramic actuators due to their high performance and irreplaceability. However, the operating temperature (<100 °C) and strain (0.1 %∼0.2 %) of lead-based piezoelectric ceramics are still limited. Achieving large strain in a wide temperature range remains challenging. In this paper, a new strategy is proposed to effectively increase the strain value of lead-based piezoelectric ceramics through domain engineering. The new x PbTiO 3 -(0.97- x )PbZrO 3 -0.03(La 0.1 Sr 0.80.1 )TiO 2.95 ( x PT-PZ-LST) ternary piezoelectric ceramic system reaches a strain value as high as 0.5 % and exhibits extremely high temperature stability (13 %) in the range of 25–230 °C. By fine-tuning the content of PT components, the average length and width of a typical tetragonal domain are transformed from 800 nm to 80 nm (long and thin) to 300 nm and 200 nm (short and wide), relatively. From the experimental results of PFM and Rayleigh analysis, the high strain can be attributed to the synergistic effect of the reduced coercive field ( E c ), enhanced micro-region response, and regulated domain morphology, which ensures that high intrinsic and extrinsic contribution can be achieved at the same time. In this paper, a new strain regulation method is provided for lead-based piezoelectric ceramics, and a valuable large strain material is obtained via domain engineering.

In catalytic oxidation reactions, the presence of environmental water poses challenges to the performance of Pt catalysts. This study aims to overcome this challenge by introducing hydroxyl groups onto the surface of Pt catalysts using the pyrolysis reduction method. Two silica supports were employed to investigate the impact of hydroxyl groups: SiO2–OH with hydroxyl groups and SiO2–C without hydroxyl groups. Structural characterization confirmed the presence of Pt–Ox, Pt–OHx, and Pt0 species in the Pt/SiO2–OH catalysts, while only Pt–Ox and Pt0 species were observed in the Pt/SiO2–C catalysts. Catalytic performance tests demonstrated the remarkable capacity of the 0.5 wt % Pt/SiO2–OH catalyst, achieving complete conversion of benzene at 160 °C under a high space velocity of 60,000 h–1. Notably, the catalytic oxidation capacity of the Pt/SiO2–OH catalyst remained largely unaffected even in the presence of 10 vol % water vapor. Moreover, the catalyst exhibited exceptional recyclability and stability, maintaining its performance over 16 repeated cycles and a continuous operation time of 70 h. Theoretical calculations revealed that the construction of Pt–OHx sites on the catalyst surface was beneficial for modulating the d-band structure, which in turn enhanced the adsorption and activation of reactants. This finding highlights the efficacy of decorating the Pt surface with hydroxyl groups as an effective strategy for improving the water resistance, catalytic activity, and long-term stability of Pt catalysts.

This work reports the synthesis of a series of carbon supported Pt-Pd-Cu (Pt-Pd-Cu/C) nano-catalysts for formic acid oxidation. The trimetallic catalysts were prepared by a one-pot protocol through reduction of Pt, Pd and Cu ions using ethylene glycol and sodium citrate as the reducing and stabilizing reagents. XRD characterization suggests that Pt-Pd-Cu alloys with different lattice parameters can be successfully prepared through adjusting the atomic ratios of Pt, Pd and Cu ions in the precursor solutions. The average crystal sizes of the Pt-Pd-Cu/C catalysts are in the range of 2.7-3.1 nm. TEM images shows that the metallic nanoparticles are well dispersed on the carbon surface, with Pt 1 Pd 3 Cu 3 /C catalyst showing obvious aggregation. XPS was carried out to analyze the surface compositions, as well as the chemical states of the novel metals in the catalysts. The real atomic ratios of the metals in the catalysts based on ICP-OES evaluation are consistent with the stoichiometric values. Electrochemical analysis suggests that the activities the Pt-Pd-Cu/C catalysts towards formic acid oxidation are dependent on the composition of the catalysts, with Pt 1 Pd 4 Cu 2 /C exhibiting the best performance. A mass normalized peak current density of 3.02 A/mg (Pt+Pd) was observed on Pt 1 Pd 4 Cu 2 /C catalyst.

A series of CoAl oxide-supported Pt catalysts (Pt/CoxAl, x = Co/Al ratio) was developed for aqueous-phase reforming of methanol to H 2 . CoxAl oxides were prepared by calcining layered double hydroxides at different temperatures. The catalytic performance of Pt/CoxAl highly depends on the Co/Al ratio and the calcination temperature. The most active Pt/Co2Al catalyst calcined at 700 °C showed an H 2 production rate of 3372 µmol H2 ·g −1 catalyst ·min −1 with low CO selectivity. The intense interaction between Pt and support and abundant oxygen vacancies results in high catalytic performance. Intensive characterization and mechanism study reveal that both Pt 0 and metallic Co 0 promote methanol decomposition. At the same time, H 2 O is activated on the support and reacts with CO to generate intermediate formate species that are further converted into CO 2 and H 2 .

Deoxygen is a crucial step for landfill gas (LFG) recycling and purification. Pt/γ-Al 2 O 3 is the most active catalyst for LFG deoxygen via catalytic methane oxidation . It is challenging but significant to further improve the performance of this type of catalyst. In regard of homogeneous and heterogeneous activation of methane by superacids , here we demonstrate LFG deoxygen via catalytic methane oxidation using a solid superacid catalyst, Pt/SO 4 2- /Al 2 O 3 , synthesized using pre-sulfated γ-Al 2 O 3 support by impregnated with sulfuric acid . In comparison to Pt/γ-Al 2 O 3 , Pt/SO 4 2- /Al 2 O 3 catalysts exhibit exceptionally improved activity and minimum complete O 2 conversion at a temperature of 264 ℃, a decrease of about 51 ℃. This value is superior to the state-of-the-art Pt-based deoxygen catalysts. Characterizations and theoretical calculations indicate that sulfation enhances the amount of acid sites on γ-Al 2 O 3 support and induces electron deficiency of the supported Pt species (+0.28|e|), thus boosting the low-temperature activity. Furthermore, the Pt/SO 4 2- /Al 2 O 3 catalyst maintained its initial activity after six runs without any detectable coke deposition. This discovery offers simple and effective strategies to precisely design higher performance application-oriented Pt based deoxygen catalysts.

Unhealthy alcohol inhalation is among the top 10 causes of preventable death. However, the present alcohol sensors show poor selectivity among alcohol homologues. Herein, Pt-coated truncated octahedron Au (Ptm@Auto) as the electrocatalyst for a highly selective electrochemical sensor toward alcohol homologues has been designed. The alcohol sensor is realized by distinguishing the electro-oxidation behavior of methanol (MeOH), ethanol (EtOH), or isopropanol (2-propanol). Intermediates from alcohols are further oxidized to CO2 by Ptm@Auto, resulting in different oxidation peaks in cyclic voltammograms and successful distinction of alcohols. Ptm@Auto is then modified on wearable glove-based sensors for monitoring actual alcohol samples (MeOH fuel, vodka, and 2-propanol hand sanitizer), with good mechanical performance and repeatability. The exploration of the Ptm@Auto-based wearable alcohol sensor is expected to be suitable for environmental measurement with high selectivity for alcohol homologues or volatile organic compounds.

Efficient and low-cost degradation of ethylene has always been a difficult problem in the storage and transportation of fruits and vegetables. Although photocatalysis is considered to be a feasible and efficient solution for ethylene degradation, the low degradation ability of conventional catalysts for small non-polar molecules limits its application. TiO2has the advantage of tunable microstructure, but it also has the defects of wide band gap and low utilization of sunlight. The surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of noble metals can effectively improve the visible light absorption range of catalysts, and the synergy of noble metals further enhances the photocatalytic ability. Herein, we developed a series of AuPt catalysts through the photo-deposition method. Benefited from the SPR effect and the synergy of Au and Pt, the efficiency of AuPt–TiO2was 19.9, 4.64 and 2.42 times that of TiO2, Au–TiO2and Pt–TiO2, and the photocatalytic degradation ability of AuPt–TiO2was maintained in five cyclic stability tests. Meanwhile, the transient photocurrent spectra and PL spectra proved that the light absorption capacity and carrier separation efficiency of AuPt–TiO2were enhanced. This work provides a new direction for enhancing non-polar small-molecule photodegradation of semiconductors. Keywords:surface plasmon resonance;Au–Pt nanoparticles;synergy;non-polar small molecules;photodegradation

Photocatalytic hydrogen production from water is a clean and sustainable way of energy regeneration. Single-atom catalysts (SACs) have received increasing attention in the field of photocatalysis due to their high catalytic activity, selectivity, stability, and 100% atomic utilization. In this work, we utilized TiO2 with oxygen vacancy (Vo-TiO2) to anchor atomically dispersed Pt and Pd, developing a Vo-TiO2-supported dual atomic catalyst (Pt–Pd SAs/Vo-TiO2). Experiments show the metal atomic sites are stabilized by the oxygen vacancy of TiO2, and the Ti–Pt–Ti structure and the Ti–Pd–Ti structure are constructed. The result shows that the hydrogen production rate of Pt–Pd SAs/Vo-TiO2 is 4 times higher than that of Pt–Pd NPs/TiO2, and its hydrogen production rate is as high as 4241.4 μmol h−1 gcat.−1, which greatly reduces catalyst cost and makes photocatalytic water hydrogen production more economical and sustainable. This work provides a new idea for the development of dual single-atom catalysts for efficient photocatalytic hydrogen production.

Hydrogenation of nitroaromatics to the corresponding amines plays a central role in the drug, fine chemical, and petrochemical industry. However, realizing hydrogenation through highly effective and environment-friendly methods remains a significant challenge. Here we demonstrated photo-enhanced catalytic activity for hydrogenation of nitrobenzene using Pt-Au/TiO 2 heterojunction as catalyst and hydrogen as reducing agent. The catalytic reaction rate improved 6.5 times under the simulated sunlight compared to the counterpart without light irradiation, and the TOF value of the catalytic reaction achieved as high as 7315 h −1 under light irradiation, better than the previously reported results. Further mechanism investigations indicate that light illumination can promote the activation of hydrogen and nitrobenzene molecules so that the catalytic performance improves significantly. This finding not only develops a green approach for the hydrogenation of nitroaromatics but also opens an avenue for designing high-efficiency photocatalysts.
