A Bi₄Ti₃O₁₂/BiOCl heterojunction with a coherent interface was constructed via a room-temperature ion-exchange process. • A Bi₄Ti₃O₁₂/BiOCl heterojunction with a coherent interface was constructed via a room-temperature ion-exchange process. • The photocatalyst exhibits excellent performance for the degradation of high-concentration, recalcitrant antibiotics. A strategy is reported for the in-situ fabrication of a Bi₄Ti₃O₁₂/BiOCl heterojunction with shared atomic layer through simple room-temperature ion-exchange on pure Bi₄Ti₃O₁₂. This strategic interfacial engineering, combined with a Type-II band alignment, the Aurivillius-type Bi₄Ti₃O₁₂ and BiOCl share the Bi₂O₂ 2+ layers at the interface, thereby dramatically accelerating the separation and migration of photo-generated carriers and ultimately significantly increasing the yield of photocatalytic reactive species. Consequently, the optimized composite photocatalyst exhibits exceptional performance in the degradation of high-concentration antibiotics. It achieves remarkable degradation efficiencies of 90.8% for sulfamethoxazole (20 ppm) within 120 min, 92% for tetracycline hydrochloride (40 ppm) and 78.6% ciprofloxacin (15 ppm) within just 30 min. Demonstrating superior photocatalytic performance compared to the previously reported analogous photocatalysts in recent years with respect to antibiotic degradation. Furthermore, the degradation efficiency of the as-prepared photocatalyst also demonstrates outstanding cycling stability, with a reduction of only 3.4% after 4 cycles. Therefore, this coherent Bi₄Ti₃O₁₂/BiOCl heterojunction photocatalyst exhibits immense potential for practical applications in environmental remediation.

Titanium (Ti) substrates are commonly used as current collectors or functional supports in all-solid-state batteries and related thin-film devices, but their surface and interfacial state can affect subsequent functional-layer construction and device stability. Carbon films, as carbon-based functional layers, can regulate the interfacial properties of Ti surfaces and provide potential conductive pathways. However, the morphological evolution of magnetron-sputtered carbon films on Ti substrates and its formation mechanism remain unclear. This work combines experimental characterization with molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to investigate the deposition and annealing behavior of carbon films on Ti substrates. Experimental results showed that annealing transformed the carbon film from relatively uniform coverage into a distinct island-like distribution. MD simulations revealed that metastable regions within the carbon film evolved toward more stable configurations through bond breaking, bond formation, and local rearrangement, accompanied by local contraction and densification. Under the combined effects of substrate constraint and interfacial interactions, these structural changes further induced hole expansion and nonuniform coverage, ultimately leading to island-like morphology formation. These results indicate that annealing-induced island formation is not merely surface roughening, but a consequence of thermally driven local contraction, structural densification, and stress relaxation, showing features of early-stage solid-state dewetting. This study clarifies the atomic-scale mechanism of island formation in Ti/C systems and provides guidance for thermal-treatment design of carbon layers on Ti substrates and functional-interface design in high-performance all-solid-state batteries.

Transition-metal oxides offer a low-cost alternative to precious metals for environmental catalysis, yet CO oxidation under humid and sulfur-laden conditions remains challenging due to rapid poisoning. Herein, we report an atomic dispersion of Ti‑decorated MnO x -Fe 2 O 3 catalyst that achieves high activity and remarkable H 2 O/SO 2 resistance. Atomically dispersed Ti provides electron-accepting 3d states from O 2p orbitals, which redistributes and stabilizes selected O 2p states while modifying their hybridization with neighboring Mn/Fe 3d orbitals. The localized electronic restructuring strengthens CO adsorption and facilitates lattice oxygen activation via a Mars-van Krevelen (MvK)-like mechanism, lowering the apparent activation energy to 64.59 kJ/mol. Simultaneously, Ti-O-Fe interfaces weaken SO 2 adsorption (from −1.96 eV to −0.19 eV) and suppress H 2 O competition, retaining >55% CO conversion under 10 vol% H 2 O and 10 ppm SO 2 , far surpassing the parent oxide (<10%). The orbital tuning strategy enables scalable poison resistant catalysts for industrial emission control, reducing reliance on precious‑metal systems.

In the field of heterogeneous catalysis, it still remains a challenge in controlled preparation of micro-nanostructured composite oxide catalysts. In this regard, a series of urchin-like V–Ti–O micro-nanostructures with varying Ti/V molar ratios are successfully synthesized by the reaction between tetrabutyl titanate (TBOT) and vanadyl oxalate via a facile one-step solvothermal process and subsequent calcination. The influences of reaction conditions, such as the ratio of reactant, the acidity of reaction system, and the use of glycol on the morphologies and oxidation state of vanadium are investigated. The results show that urchin-like hierarchical micro-nanostructures are formed, on which a large number of one-dimensional nanobelts radially grow from the center. Vanadium oxide species are highly dispersed on the external surface of the anatase TiO 2 structure. The obtained V–Ti–O catalysts are tested for the ammoxidation of mono- and dichlorotoluenes in gas-phase with molecular oxygen and exhibit high catalytic activity in converting chlorotoluenes to corresponding nitriles.

Manganese-based oxide cathodes for sodium-ion batteries face irreversible degradation from Mn 3+ Jahn–Teller distortion and Mn 2+ dissolution, compounded by cyclic strain during (de)sodiation. To address this, a P2-K 0.7 Mn 0.8 Ni 0.1 Ti 0.1 O 2 (KMNT) cathode via dual-regulation is developed: K + pillars expand alkali - metal layers enabling fast Na⁺ diffusion, while Ni/Ti co-doping compresses transition-metal layers to suppress Mn migration and Jahn–Teller effect. Besides, the K + pillars in discharged KMNT enhance Mn─O interactions via electrostatic effects, elevating Mn redox potentials and enabling a high average discharge voltage of ≈2.6 V (vs. Na + /Na). Even at a low potential cut-off of 1.5 V, the KMNT cathode demonstrates a reversible specific capacity of 124 mAh g −1 at 1 C with 98% capacity retention after 200 cycles and retains 83% after 900 cycles at a large current density of 10 C, significantly outperforming conventional Mn-based cathodes. Electrochemical and operando tests confirm the dynamic K + /Na + exchange mechanism and absence of Mn 2+ formation, establishing a new paradigm for stable Mn-rich cathodes.

In this study, a highly sensitive photoelectrochemical (PEC) immunosensor for the detection of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) utilizing core-sheath-type TiO 2 @NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti) nanocone array heterostructures was developed. The immunosensor was constructed by depositing NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti) as a sheath onto FTO/TiO 2 nanocones through seed-assisted solvothermal synthesis. The TiO 2 @NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti) heterostructure showcased superior PEC detection capabilities for CEA, leveraging the quantum and tip effects of the TiO 2 nanocones along with the broad-spectrum absorption of NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti), which collectively enhanced light utilization and photoelectric conversion efficiency. The internal electric field at the NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti)/TiO 2 interface enabled efficient photogenerated electron transfer, eliminating the need for external bias and enhancing photocurrent. The antibody-functionalized surface effectively captured CEA, resulting in a clear decrease in photocurrent. Under optimized conditions, the immunosensor exhibited a linear response to CEA in the range of 0.1 pg/mL to 100 ng/mL with a remarkable detection limit of 0.54 fg/mL. The developed PEC immunosensor demonstrated high stability and excellent reproducibility, providing an innovative strategy for the development of sensitive photoactive heterojunction materials for biomarker immunosensing applications.

To improve the energy density of s ingle-crystal LiNi 0.5 Co 0.2 Mn 0.3 O 2 (NMC523) by increasing the charging cut-off voltage presents a big challenge since the material degrades significantly at high voltage (>4.3V). A simple method to enhance the high-voltage electrochemical properties of single-crystal NMC523 was proposed by introducing a mesoporous TiO 2 coating and Ti doping. The specific discharge capacity for the modified NCM523-M-TiO 2 -0.5 sample achieves 182.81 mAh g −1 at a 0.1 C rate within the 3.0–4.5 V range. Furthermore, the capacity retention rate was 80.69 % after 200 cycles at a charge/discharge rate of 1 C, significantly higher than that of bare NCM523, which exhibited values of 181.36 mAh g −1 and 46.40 %. In detail, the mesoporous TiO 2 coating shields the cathode from the electrolyte, enhancing the stability at the interface and promoting the movement of lithium ions. Additionally, Ti doping increases lattice spacing and stabilizes the layered structure. This research will inform the design of high-performance cathode materials for Li-ion batteries.

In this study, bismuth oxyiodide/titanium dioxide (BiOI/TiO 2 ) heterostructures with different molar ratios of Bi and Ti were synthesized by electrospinning and hydrothermal methods . The samples thus synthesized were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution TEM, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy . The results confirmed the presence of the BiOI/TiO 2 heterojunction with Bi/Ti molar ratios of 0.20–1 by electrospinning and hydrothermal methods . Photocatalytic activity was also evaluated by the degradation of methylene blue (MB) under visible-light irradiation. The 80% BiOI/TiO 2 heterostructure exhibited the best photocatalytic activity for the degradation of MB under visible-light irradiation.

Developing an approach for the efficient synthesis of TS-1 zeolites with desirable morphologies and tunable coordination environments for Ti active sites is a pivotal challenge in the design of high-performance catalysts and zeolite crystal engineering. Herein, we report a cost-effective and efficient additive, guanidinoacetic acid (GAA), and conduct a systematic study on the synthesis of plate-like TS-1 zeolites using GAA as an additive. Introducing GAA during hydrothermal synthesis not only modulates the morphology of TS-1 crystals but also permits GAA to adequately chemically interact with titanium precursors to form hexa-coordinated Ti species. TS-1 zeolites with a controllable b-axis thickness in the range of 80–110 nm, and abundant framework Ti and hexa-coordinated Ti species are successfully achieved by optimizing the synthetic parameters. Through SEM, FT-IR, XPS, TEM, and XRD analysis, the mechanism of GAA altering crystal growth is mainly to inhibit the growth of the (010) plane. A b-axis-oriented TS-1 zeolite enriched with hexa-coordinated Ti species displays better catalytic performance in the 1-hexene epoxidation reaction than the conventional TS-1 zeolite containing only framework Ti species (35 vs 24%). This can be ascribed to the more active hexa-coordinated Ti species and shorter diffusion distance. This synthetic strategy provides a way to change the zeolite morphology and tune the number and distribution of Ti species in TS-1 zeolites.

TiO 2 has emerged as one of the most extensively studied photocatalysts, because of its great stability and abundant availability. The hydrogen production efficiency of TiO 2 photocatalysts can be significantly enhanced derived from the precursors of titanium-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) loaded with single-atom. Although the hydrogen evolution activity of TiO 2 -based photocatalysts under ultraviolet light has been steadily enhanced in recent years, the activity under visible light remains a critical challenge to be addressed. Herein, we report a Zn single atom (Zn SA) loaded TiO 2 -based photocatalyst derived from Ti-BPDC (Ti-MOF). Under irradiation with visible light at 400 nm, the optimized sample exhibits a hydrogen evolution rate (HER) of 9.21 mmol g −1 h −1 with an apparent quantum efficiency (AQE) of 6.82%, with a HER approximately 3 times higher than that of pristine TiO 2 (3.14 mmol g −1 h −1 ), along with great stability. The results demonstrate that loading an appropriate amount of Zn SAs optimizes the band structure of the photocatalyst, activates the adjacent O atoms, and also suppresses the recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, as well as modulates the adsorption-desorption equilibrium of H∗ species, thereby significantly enhancing photocatalytic activity. This work offers a strategy for designing TiO 2 -based photocatalysts with high visible-light activity.

In this study, we investigated the phase structure, Curie temperature, dielectric properties, piezoelectricity, and energy-storage properties of BiFeO 3 (BFO)-modified (Ba 0.95 Ca 0.05 ) (Ti 0.89 Sn 0.11 )O 3 (BCTSO) ceramics using both experimental and theoretical methods. The results indicated that the lattice distortion and chaotic distribution of the local charge increased with the BFO content, resulting in a phase transition and transformation from a ferroelectric to a relaxing ferroelectric. First-principles calculations revealed that the Curie temperature decreased with increasing BFO content, primarily because of an increase in the ground state energy. The variation in the permittivity of the BCTSO- x BFO ceramics with temperature and frequency is affected by the phase structure and Maxwell-Wagner interface polarisation, respectively. The electrical modulus measurements indicated that BCTSO- x BFO exhibited non-Debye-type dielectric relaxation for x = 0.0, 0.1, and 0.5 %, whereas BCTSO- x BFO showed Debye-type dielectric relaxation for x = 0.9%.

An anodized TiO2 interconnected network was fabricated and utilized as a mesoporous scaffold and electron transporter in perovskite solar cells. By modifying the synthesis parameters, the morphological features of the interconnected TiO2 nanostructures can be widely tuned and precisely controlled. The functional properties of the anodized TiO2 network are found to be severely influenced by morphology as well as the extent of oxidation. The device with the optimized TiO2 network exhibits superior electron extraction and transferability, resulting in conspicuous enhancement of the photocurrent and power conversion efficiency (PCE). This work proposes a promising and facile method for improving the performance of perovskite solar cells.
