Addressing the key challenges of controllable hydrogen transfer and directional C O bond activation in Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley (MPV) reactions, this study constructed a Pt-CuO/Al 2 O 3 catalyst featuring Pt δ- Lewis acid-metal pairs for selective hydrogenation of biomass-derived furfural via the MPV reduction pathway. Under optimized conditions, the catalyst achieved 99.9% conversion with 98.0% selectivity. Density functional theory (DFT) analysis revealed that compared to isolated Pt, the d -band center of Pt in Pt-CuO/Al 2 O 3 shifts downward by 0.14 eV, while the d -band center of Cu shifts upward by 0.28 eV. Combined with the distinct metal-support interactions observed in EXAFS spectra, these results confirm that d -band center modulation creates a synergistic electronic structure of Pt δ– Cu δ+ : the upshifted d -band center of Cu δ+ enhances oxygen affinity, promoting co-adsorption of carbonyl and hydroxyl groups and facilitating six-membered ring transition state formation, while the downshifted d -band center of Pt δ- optimizes hydrogen transfer through interfacial electron transfer (Cu → Pt). These findings demonstrate the stable coordination environment of these Lewis acid-metal pairs. This work reveals the synergistic mechanism of Pt δ– Cu δ+ active sites and elucidates the cooperative “metal electron enrichment-oxide electron deficiency” effect in MPV reactions, providing new insights for designing highly efficient and selective biomass hydrogenation catalysts.

In recent years, self-assembled molecular (SAM) hole-transport materials have boosted the efficiency of inverted perovskite solar cells. However, they also introduce numerous interfacial and structural challenges, presenting a double-edged sword for device development. Such as poor wettability for perovskite precursors-which adversely affects perovskite film quality-as well as insufficient stability and nonuniform formation. These issues cause localized inefficient charge transport and increased interfacial recombination, ultimately impairing device performance and reproducibility. To overcome these limitations, we introduced d-camphorsulfonic acid (D-CSA) as a multifunctional interfacial modifier. The strongly acidic sulfonic acid group (–SO3H) of D-CSA plays a pivotal role: it enhances the wettability of the perovskite precursor on Me-4PACz ([4-(3,6-dimethyl-9H-carbazol-9-yl)butyl]phosphonic acid) and, acting as a proton donor, passivates the terminal carbazole group of Me-4PACz via protonation. Concurrently, the resulting sulfonate group (–SO3–) coordinates with undercoordinated Pb2+ ions from the perovskite layer. The incorporation of D-CSA also optimizes the energy level alignment between the HTL and the perovskite. The devices modified with D-CSA achieved a power conversion efficiency of 25.47% with negligible hysteresis, significantly outperforming the control devices (23.25%). Furthermore, the D-CSA-modified devices exhibited substantially enhanced moisture resistance, thermal stability, and operational stability under continuous illumination. This work provides a feasible strategy for developing highly efficient and stable inverted PSCs.

The occurrence of pharmaceutical residues, including antibiotic ciprofloxacin (CIP) and the chelating drug D-penicillamine (D-PA), in food and environmental samples has raised increasing concerns regarding food safety and public health. Herein, a bioinspired single-atom copper nanozyme was synthesized via a template-guided strategy by encapsulating sodium copper chlorophyllin (SCC) within zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8). SCC served as a biomimetic precursor, mimicking the active sites of natural oxidase enzymes. Upon pyrolysis, it guided the in-situ formation of atomically dispersed Cu–N x sites. The resulting nanozyme efficiently catalyzed 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine oxidation and enabled dual colorimetric detection of CIP and D-PA. CIP produced a signal-enhancement response by coordinating with the Cu centers, which facilitated interfacial electron transfer and accelerated the oxidase-like catalytic reaction. In contrast, D-PA induced a signal-suppression response by competitively occupying the Cu active sites through its thiol and amino groups and by reducing oxidized TMB (oxTMB) to its colorless form. Linear detection ranges were 1–7 μg/mL for both analytes, limits of detection of 0.097 μg/mL for CIP and 0.108 μg/mL for D-PA. Recoveries ranged from 94.38% to 103.71% in milk and from 97.73% to 105.18% in river water samples, demonstrating reliable performance in real samples. This work provides a straightforward approach for multi-target colorimetric sensing using Cu single-atom nanozymes, with promising applications in food safety and environmental analysis.

Vitamin D deficiency (VDD) is common in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and has been linked to dyslipidemia, but the specific lipids associated with low vitamin D status are not well defined. To address this, we sought to characterize lipidomic alterations associated with VDD in T2DM and describe the changes following vitamin D₂ (VD2) supplementation. Specifically, untargeted serum lipidomics with anthropometric and clinical measurements were performed in 219 adults with T2DM, classified as VDD (25(OH)D < 20 ng/mL; n = 138) or non-VDD (25(OH)D ≥ 20 ng/mL; n = 81). A subset of VDD participants (n = 20) completed a 3-month VD2 supplementation trial. Lipids were profiled by UHPLC-HRMS and analyzed in relation to metabolic and anthropometric measures. Our analysis identified 112 lipid species differentially expressed in VDD, characterized by reduced ether-linked phosphatidylcholines (EtherPCs) and elevated ceramide 16:0. EtherPCs showed negative correlation with HbA1c, BMI, as well as body fat, and positive associations with muscle mass and bone mineral content, whereas ceramides inversely associated with these metabolic indices. Following 3-month VD2 supplementation, increases in circulating 25(OH)D and reductions in HbA1c were observed, accompanied by changes on the targeted lipidome, including elevated EtherPCs and reduced ceramide profiles (Cer 20:0, Cer 22:0, Cer 16:0/24:0). In conclusion, VDD in T2DM is associated with a distinct lipidomic profile marked by EtherPCs depletion and ceramide accumulation. The observed lipidomic changes following VD2 supplementation suggest the presence of a VD2-responsive lipid signature, which may have potential implications for metabolic risk management in T2DM.

BackgroundCyclovirobuxine D (CVB-D), an alkaloid from Buxus microphylla, exhibits anticancer effects in various tumors, but its role in osteosarcoma remains unexplored. This study investigates its efficacy and mechanism in osteosarcoma.MethodsWe screened a drug library and evaluated CVB-D’s effects on osteosarcoma cell lines using CCK-8 and colony formation assays. Saos2 and K7M2 cells were selected for further analysis. Flow cytometry assessed apoptosis and cell cycle. RNA-seq identified downstream pathways, including NF-kappaB, and stemness markers (CD24, ALDH1A1). Stemness was examined via serum-free suspension culture, and NF-kappaB pathway activator Diprovocim was used in rescue experiments. A xenograft mouse model validated the findings.ResultsCVB-D suppressed proliferation, stemness, and induced apoptosis in osteosarcoma. These effects may be partially mediated through the p-NF-kappaB2/NF-kappaB2 axis and were reversible upon NF-kappaB pathway activation.ConclusionCVB-D inhibits osteosarcoma possibly via the non-canonical NF-kappaB pathway, suggesting a potential therapeutic strategy.

D-Cycloserine (DCS) is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat drug-resistant tuberculosis. It exerts its antimicrobial effects by inhibiting a variety of pyridoxal 5′-phosphate (PLP)-dependent enzymes. Recent studies indicate that cycloserine targets cysteine desulfurases, which are essential for iron–sulfur (Fe–S) cluster biogenesis. However, the mechanistic details of its effect on Fe–S cluster assembly are unclear. In this study, we demonstrate that L-Cycloserine (LCS), but not its enantiomer DCS, inhibits the cysteine desulfurase activity of Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) IscS, resulting in impaired Fe–S cluster biosynthesis. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC–MS) analysis showed that LCS converts the IscS-bound PLP cofactor into pyridoxamine 5′-phosphate (PMP). Importantly, LCS significantly inhibited the growth of the uropathogenic E. coli strain CFT073, and remained effective against experimentally-evolved DCS-resistant strains in synthetic human urine medium. Our work highlights Fe–S cluster biosynthesis as a novel antimicrobial target and proposes LCS as a promising alternative therapeutic agent to counteract DCS resistance.

Chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs) hydrodechlorination
is hindered by chlorine poisoning and the instability of monometallic
catalysts, limiting their practical application. In this work, long-range
ordered PdCu intermetallic compounds were synthesized via a microwave-assisted
method. Characterization confirmed that microwave treatment induced
strong Pd–Cu electronic interactions and lattice ordering,
thereby facilitating the formation of intermetallic phases. Catalytic
evaluations demonstrated that the PdCu/C-Ordered catalyst achieved
an ethane production rate of 4.47 mmol·g cat –1 ·h –1 at 300 ° C with an apparent activation
energy of 31.28 kJ/mol, while maintaining exceptional stability over
a 300 h continuous operation. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations
further elucidated that the intermetallic phase, characterized by
a d-band center positioned closer to the Fermi level, exhibited enhanced
reactant adsorption and activation capabilities. Concurrently, it
significantly lowered the HCl desorption energy barrier, thereby effectively
mitigating chlorine poisoning effects. This research provides a novel
pathway for the design of high-efficiency hydrodechlorination catalysts
based on the precise regulation of electronic structures.

Background Cognitive–exercise dual-task training has been shown to enhance cognitive function through mechanisms such as suppression of chronic inflammation, reduction of oxidative stress, and enhancement of synaptic plasticity. However, the precise mechanisms underlying the ability of dual-task training to delay aging-related cognitive decline remain incompletely understood. Methods Aged male C57BL/6J mice were subjected to a 12-week intervention program consisting of cognitive training, exercise, or cognitive–exercise dual-task training. Cognitive and physical function were assessed using a battery of behavioral tests, including the open field test, elevated plus maze test, inverted grid test, wire hanging test, rotarod test, novel object recognition test, novel object localization test, eight-arm maze test, and Morris water maze test. Hippocampal aging and associated molecular changes were assessed using multiple techniques, including terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining, Nissl staining, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, quantitative polymerase chain reaction, Western blotting, co-immunoprecipitation, and dual-luciferase reporter assays. In addition, we established in vitro models of cellular senescence using d -galactose, RNA overexpression/silencing models utilizing siRNA, and Ephrin type-B receptor 2 (EphB2) inducer/inhibitor models to explore specific molecular mechanisms. Results Age-related upregulation in microRNA (miR)-204 and downregulation in long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) nuclear enriched abundant transcript 1 (NEAT1) were observed to disrupt Ephrin-B1 (EFNB1)/EphB2 interactions, leading to reduced cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)/protein kinase A (PKA) and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt) signaling pathway activation. These alterations were implicated in the pathogenesis of aging-related cognitive decline. Timely interventions, especially cognitive–exercise dual-task, were found to attenuate these phenomena, thereby delaying the progression of aging-related cognitive decline. Conclusions Timely intervention during the aging process can effectively delay the progression of cognitive decline. The effects of cognitive–exercise dual-task training may surpass those of single-task interventions with either cognitive training or exercise alone. Graphical abstract

Two-dimensional conjugated metal organic frameworks (2D c-MOFs) hold significant promise as electrode materials for alkali metal ion batteries while their electrochemical properties still lack reasonable and effective regulation. Here, two representative 2D c-MOFs (M-HHTQ/M-HHTP, M=Cu or Ni) as positive electrodes are used as models to explore the basic/microscopic principles of their complex storage mechanism in sodium ion batteries (SIBs). It is demonstrated that the energy storage mechanism of 2D c-MOFs is determined by the interaction between coordination covalent bonds and organic linkers. Theoretical calculations and experiment results have jointly demonstrated that the redox potential and theoretical capacity can be regulated based on the valence of M-O bond and the utilization of anions and cations, respectively. As a result, Cu-HHTQ achieves a high discharge voltage at 2.55 V (vs. Na + /Na), a higher stable specific capacity of 208 mAh g −1 at 0.05 A g −1 , and long cyclability with the capacity retention rate of 100% at 1 A g −1 after 2000 cycles.

Transition-metal phosphides (TMPs) are promising electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), but their industrial-scale application is limited by sluggish water dissociation kinetics and insufficient active site exposure under alkaline conditions. Herein, we demonstrate orbital hybridization engineering in Ni5P4/NiCoP-1 heterostructures fabricated via controlled phosphorization and magnetically modulated electrodeposition (MME). COMSOL simulations, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the heterointerface activates covalent Ni/Co–P bonding through optimized d–p orbital hybridization, leading to favorable electron density redistribution and an upshifted d-band center (ΔE = 0.061 eV). These electronic modifications synergistically enhance OH– adsorption energetics and accelerate water dissociation kinetics. Simultaneously, the strengthened metal–phosphorus bonds endow exceptional corrosion resistance under chloride-rich seawater conditions. As a result, Ni5P4/NiCoP-1 achieves excellent HER performance, requiring ultralow overpotentials of 266 and 325 mV to achieve a current density of 1000 mA cm–2 in 1.0 M KOH and seawater at pH 14, respectively, while maintaining stable operation for 200 h. In a two-electrode electrolyzer, the system requires only 1.62 V to reach 100 mA cm–2 in urea-assisted alkaline seawater, surpassing most reported TMP-based catalysts. The practical applicability is further verified by successfully powering a hydrogen-powered prototype vehicle. This work not only provides mechanistic insights into interfacial electronic structure modulation via d–p orbital hybridization but also establishes MME as a universal approach for high-rate hydrogen production from alkaline freshwater and seawater.

Phosphatidylserine (PS) is a high-value phospholipid in functional foods and pharmaceuticals. However, the lack of a suitable biocatalytic system has limited the conversion efficiency. A novel Pickering interfacial biocatalysis (PIB) system has developed for converting phosphatidylcholine (PC) to PS in this work. Three immobilized enzyme carriers were synthesized by grafting different modifying groups onto hollow mesoporous silica particles (HMSP). The combination of NQ-62 and octyl-modified groups yielded the optimal immobilized enzyme, PLD@HMSP-N 3 /C 8 . It stabilized the water-in-oil Pickering emulsion and enhanced phospholipase D (PLD) stability via hydrogen bond interactions. Under optimized conditions, a PS conversion of 93.8 % was achieved within 20 min at 40 °C, achieving a catalytic efficiency (CE) of 372 mmol/(g·h). The immobilized PLD demonstrated markedly enhanced thermostability, pH resistance, and protease hydrolysis stability compared to its free and homologous series counterparts. Moreover, it retained 70.9 % of the PS conversion after 10 cycles of reuse.

Trace biological solution detection is currently of great interest in the terahertz (THz) field. Graphene oxide (GO) is an amphiphilic graphene-like material with favorable biocompatibility, showing good potential applicability in THz liquid detection. In this work, a GO enhanced THz metamaterial liquid biosensor with a polyimide capillary as the microfluidic channel is proposed. The experimental results reveal that the capillary structure can avoid the large absorption of THz waves by controlling the amount of water. In the biosensor, GO is demonstrated to play an important role in enhancing the THz response, improving surface adsorption, and facilitating signal transmission. It is able to enhance the immobilization of D-Asp, which was confirmed by both Raman spectra and XRD scans, thus resulting in the structural changes of GO. The transmission amplitude variation of THz waves indicates that the electromagnetic response of GO varies with the adsorbed D-Asp concentration. The proposed biosensor achieves an ultra-low detection limit of 3 pg mL−1 and a maximum transmission change of about 12.5%. Thus, with their robust resistance to water interference and outstanding detection performance, the proposed biosensors show potential advantages for the expanded application of THz metamaterials in the ultra-sensitive detection of trace biological samples in liquid environments.
