Conventional foam sticks release surfactant too rapidly, resulting in a short foam duration during gas well deliquification, especially at elevated temperatures. This necessitates frequent addition of foam sticks to sustain foaming and open the wellhead . To address this issue, this paper explores the utilization of a degradable polymer and inorganic nanoparticles composite to encapsulate surfactant for prolonged and controlled release of foam, particularly at high temperatures. The nanocomposite foam sticks were prepared by blending molten degradable polymer with surfactant and various inorganic nanoparticles, which were subsequently injected and solidified in molds. The release performance of the foam sticks was evaluated based on foaming performance and surface activity over time. The nanocomposite foam sticks were characterized by infrared spectroscopy (IR), scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Characterization of the nanocomposite showed homogenous surfactant incorporation and increased thermostability of the solid foam sticks in the presence of inorganic nanoparticles. The foam release performance was optimized for the composite comprising the polymer, surfactant and inorganic nanoparticle fillers. The optimized nanocomposite encapsulated surfactant demonstrated controlled surfactant release, sustaining foam for over 96 h at 130 °C in brine solution . The study presents an innovative approach to enhance gas well productivity, offering a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution to the challenges of deliquification in gas wells.

Hollow and porous α-Fe 2 O 3 nanotubes were successfully synthesized by single nozzle electrospinning method followed by annealing treatment. The crystal structures and morphologies of the as-prepared materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. The as-prepared materials were applied to construct gas sensor devices which gas sensing properties were further investigated. The obtained results revealed that porous α-Fe 2 O 3 nanotube gas sensors exhibit a markedly enhanced gas sensing performance compared with hollow α-Fe 2 O 3 nanotube gas sensors, which was about three times higher to 100 ppm acetone at 240 °C. Interestingly, hollow and porous α-Fe 2 O 3 nanotube gas sensors both showed fast response–recovery time and good selectivity, but the porous ones possessed the shorter recovery time. The improved properties could be attributed to the unique morphology of porous nanotubes. Thus, further improvement of performance in metal-oxide-semiconductors materials could be realized by preparation the unique porous structures of nanotubes. Moreover, it is expected that porous metal-oxide-semiconductors nanotubes could be further design as promising candidates for gas sensing materials.

Metal oxide semiconductor (MOS)-based chemiresistive gas sensors, attributable to their low cost, compact structure, and long operational lifetime, have been widely employed for the detection and monitoring of trace ozone (O3) in environmental air. Moreover, as ozone is a highly reactive oxidizing species extensively used in medical device sterilization, hospital disinfection, and food processing and preservation, accurate monitoring of ozone concentration is also essential in medical sanitation and food safety inspection. However, their practical applications are often limited by insufficient sensitivity and the requirement for elevated operating temperatures. In this study, Au-modified indium oxide (Au-In2O3) nanocomposite sensing materials were synthesized via a hydrothermal route followed by surface modification. Structural and morphological characterizations confirmed the uniform dispersion of Au nanoparticles on the In2O3surface, which is expected to enhance the interaction between the sensor and target gas molecules. The resulting Au-In2O3sensor exhibited excellent O3sensing performance under room-temperature conditions. Compared with pristine In2O3, the Au-In2O3sensor with 1.0 wt% Au modification demonstrated a remarkably enhanced response of 1398.4 toward 1 ppm O3at room temperature. Moreover, the corresponding response/recovery times were shortened to 102/358 s for Au-In2O3. The outstanding O3sensing performance can be attributed to the synergistic effects of Au nanoparticles, including the spillover effect and the formation of a Schottky junction at the Au-In2O3interface. These results suggest that Au-modified In2O3cauliflower represents a highly promising candidate material for high performance O3sensing at low operating temperatures.

Background Chiral metal-organic cages (CMOCs) represent a novel class of porous materials featuring tunable chiral cavities and distinctive chiral microenvironments, endowing them with remarkable advantages in enantiomeric separation. However, the reported CMOCs are mostly constructed with noble or transition metal ions, limiting their prospects in energy sustainability and green development. Furthermore, although existing CMOCs exhibit outstanding separation performance, their enantioseparation ability and application scope are still restricted. Therefore, developing novel CMOC materials that combine low cost and outstanding chiral recognition performance for chromatographic applications is of great significance. Results Herein, a chiral Al-based CMOC (Al-CMOC) was fabricated and utilized as a novel stationary phase for high-resolution gas chromatographic separation of diverse organic compounds, including n-alkanes, alkylbenzenes, n-alcohols, isomers, as well as chiral analytes involving alcohols, esters, ethers, and arenes. The Al-CMOC column exhibits high column efficiency (3100 plates·m −1 for n-dodecane) and achieves a maximum resolution of 9.71 for ethyl 3-hydroxybutyrate. The enantioseparation performance of the Al-CMOC column was compared with that of commercially available β -DEX 120 column and the previously reported Fe 4 II L 4 column, and the results demonstrated that the three columns exhibit favorable complementarity. In addition, the reproducibility studies revealed that the relative standard deviations (RSDs) of peak area and retention time were below 1.0% for ethyl 3-hydroxybutyrate and nitrotoluene, demonstrating the exceptional stability of the Al-CMOC column. Significance Al-based CMOCs constructed from aluminum featuring high crustal abundance, low biotoxicity, and low cost, overcome the limitations of conventional CMOC materials, which largely rely on precious and transition metal centers. Moreover, the as-prepared Al-CMOC serves as a promising chiral separation medium, which not only broadens the application scope of CMOCs in chromatographic analysis, but also provides a feasible strategy for developing advanced gas chromatographic chiral stationary phases.

To further optimize the overall combustion performance of combustion-type tear gas mixtures and improve the effective utilization rate of the tear gas agent OC, various nanomaterials and composite nanomaterials were incorporated into the combustion-type tear gas mixture system. Using specialized equipment for measuring physical property parameters and thermal analysis instruments, changes in the physical property parameters and thermal decomposition behavior of six modified mixtures were investigated. The microstructure of these mixtures was characterized and analyzed, and the mechanism by which nanomaterial addition influences the thermal decomposition process of the mixture system was explored via the Starink method, Flynn-Wall-Ozawa method, and Coats-Redfern method. The results revealed that the maximum decomposition temperature (Tmax) of samples NP2, NP5, and NP6 exhibited the most significant reduction (approximately 40 °C), while the average combustion rate increased by nearly 17%. Correspondingly, the OC release efficiency (ωOC) rose by 8.2% to 10.2%, and the smoke concentration increased by approximately 10%. Comprehensive analysis of sample pyrolysis behavior, calculation of kinetic parameters, fitting of reaction models, and examination of combustion residues demonstrated that the activation energy of the first-stage reaction for samples NP1–NP6 varied with the conversion degree (α). This indicates that the addition of nanomaterials transformed the reaction process at this stage from a single-step to a multi-step mechanism, which is consistent with the findings from pyrolysis behavior analysis. The most probable reaction models were predicted using the Coats-Redfern method, revealing that the reaction models corresponding to each stage of samples NP1–NP6 underwent certain changes. Notably, during the first two pyrolysis stages of the samples, the models shifted from the diffusion model (D3) and nucleation model (A4) to the reaction order model (F1/F2). Additionally, this study reproduced the pyrolysis process of the tear gas mixture as it enters the combustion zone through thermodynamic simulation. The reaction processes occurring within these specific temperature ranges provide a critical foundation for further investigating precise temperature control technologies and enhancing the overall combustion efficiency of such mixtures.

It is of practical significance to develop gas sensors with high sensitivity and high selectivity. In this study, ZnO nanoflakes were synthesized by hydrothermal synthesis, and Au/ZnO, Pd/ZnO, and Pt/ZnO nanoflakes were fabricated by uniformly loading small-sized Au, Pd, and Pt nanoparticles using an ultraviolet-assisted reduction. Gas-sensing performance tests revealed that Au/ZnO nanoflakes exhibited a higher response to isopropanol compared to Pd/ZnO, Pt/ZnO, and ZnO nanoflake sensors. At the working temperature of 225 °C, it demonstrated response of 132.2 to 100 ppm isopropanol, with 8 s response time and 12 s recovery time, and showed high selectivity, repeatability, and stability. Hydrogen sensing performance of Au/ZnO nanoflakes was also evaluated at the optimal operating temperature, yielding a response of 13.5 to 100 ppm hydrogen, with response time and recovery time of 17 and 21 s, respectively, and exhibiting a high concentration-dependent response. The material’s enhanced gas sensing performance is due to a synergistic effect. This effect combines abundant active sites on nanoflakes with inherent catalytic properties of gold nanoparticles.

Hydrate-based gas separation (HBGS) offers a safe and promising route for capturing low-concentration coalbed methane (CH4). Herein, the formation behavior of CH4 hydrates promoted by 1,3-dioxolane (1,3-DIOX) and porous copper foam (CF) was systematically investigated. Experimental results demonstrated that the combined use of CF (60 PPI) and 5.56 mol % 1,3-DIOX under a coupled spraying-stirring mode markedly accelerates hydrate formation, yielding a maximum gas storage capacity of 0.1733 mol CH4 per mole H2O at 3.0 MPa, which is 10.1 times higher than that of the static pure water system. At 4.0 MPa, the maximum capacity is 0.1244 mol CH4/mol H2O, which is 3.7 times higher than that of the static pure water system. Furthermore, due to the higher thermodynamic driving force, the induction time for the 10% CH4 system is shorter than that of the 5% system. Specifically, the induction time with 0.3 wt % l-leucine was 21.31%–40.38% shorter than that of the combined CF and 1,3-DIOX system. After single-stage separation, the CH4 content was effectively enriched from 5% to 8.0%–10.25% and from 10% to 17.9%–21.7%. Compared to l-leucine, the system containing sodium lignosulfonate demonstrated a higher CH4 concentration in the hydrate phase, indicating superior selectivity. The CH4 recovery rates for the feeding gas systems with 10% and 5% CH4 were approximately 40% and 50%, respectively. Comparing to the reported results in smaller reactors of 58–1000 mL, the comparable CH4 recovery here is realized in a much larger scale reactor of 3927 mL, which is really a great improvement. These findings confirm that the proposed CF/1,3-DIOX system is an effective strategy for the enrichment of low-concentration CBM, providing a viable technical route for multistage industrial separation processes.

Understanding and suppressing gas evolution is critical to enabling high-energy-density lithium metal batteries (LMBs). Yet, comprehensive investigations in ether-based systems remain limited. Here we quantify gas generation in ether-based LMBs and elucidate the underlying mechanisms. We link CO and CO 2 production to the cathode, and CH 4 evolution to the anode. Notably, CO and CO 2 are consumed at the Li anode to form Li-containing species such as Li 2 CO 3 . Although CH 4 ultimately dominates the gaseous products, its evolution during cycling is delayed until a distinct onset point. We show that in a high-concentration ether electrolyte, anode activation improves Li deposition morphology and suppresses interfacial reactions, extending the number of cycles to gas onset and cell failure by an order of magnitude. Achieving these gains without altering the electrolyte enables the reconsideration of seemingly impractical electrolytes, highlighting a practical strategy to enhance the safety and performance of commercial LMBs.

Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) are an energy efficient and highly tunable approach to gas separation, achieved by integrating the distinct transport properties of polymers and nanomaterials. However, MMMs commonly face challenges such as trade-off between permeability and selectivity, as well as CO 2 plasticization. In particular, polyimide membranes suffer from low resistance to CO 2 plasticization, typically below 15 bar. In this study, we present a synergistic approach to overcome the permeability-selectivity trade-off, and enhance CO 2 plasticization resistance through the rational engineering of the fractional free volume (FFV) of 6FDA-durene polyimide-based MMMs. A highly permeable aluminum-based metal-organic framework (MOF), Christian-Albrechts-Universität (CAU-10-H) was first incorporated into the 6FDA-durene polyimide matrix to enhance the FFV, thereby improving gas permeability. A small loading of CAU-10-H increased the CO 2 permeability by 98.8% (e.g., from 501 to 996 Barrer), with only a slight decrease in CO 2 /N 2 selectivity (e.g., from 15 to 13.4). Subsequently, sub-nanometer transport control was achieved by introducing amine-based cross-linkers to regulate the expanded polyimide matrix and strengthen the polymer-MOF interface. The optimized 6D/CAU(3):EDA-2h membrane demonstrated a H 2 /CO 2 selectivity of 8.5 while maintaining a high H 2 permeability of 34 Barrer. This represents an 8.5-fold improvement in selectivity compared to the uncross-linked MMM, surpassing the 2008 Robeson upper bound. Furthermore, the membrane demonstrated improved resistance to CO 2 plasticization up to 30 bar and moderate resistance to physical aging, exhibiting a 43% decrease in H 2 permeability over 100 days. These findings highlight the potential of synergistic filler-matrix-cross-linker integration as an effective strategy for advancing MMMs toward next-generation gas separation membranes.

Environmental monitoring has become essential for recognizing and mitigating the effects of the increased release of hazardous gases on ecosystems and human health. NO 2 is harmful air pollutant, mainly emitted by combustion sources and is associated with respiratory problems and photochemical smog. The present investigation utilized a simple hydrothermal approach to synthesis Bi 2 O 3 /SnO 2 heterostructures designed for the detection of NO 2 gas at low concentrations. The Bi/Sn-2 heterostructure exhibited a remarkable response (R g /R a ) of 105.4 upon exposure to 50 ppm of NO 2 gas. Furthermore, the Bi/Sn-2 heterostructure exhibited significant repeatability in its performance for 8 continuous cycles while ensuring long stability for 30 days. The exceptional responsiveness and selectivity towards NO 2 gas have been attributed to the formation of a p-n junction, augmented by the combined effect of increased surface area and unique morphological characteristics. This study demonstrates a viable approach to develop metal oxides heterojunctions that can detect low concentrations of NO 2 gas.

Experiments were conducted to form mixed H 2 S/CH 4 hydrates with inhibitors to 30 MPa. • Comprehensive evaluations of inhibitors were performed with chlorides and alcohols. • Thermodynamic model was developed and validated, with model limitations identified. • H 2 S is preferentially incorporated into hydrate, which shows promise for sweetening. Sour natural gas containing high percentage of hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) often experiences severe gas hydrate blockages. Accurate prediction of hydrate formation conditions is essential for flow assurance, yet reliable high-pressure data and robust models for H 2 S/CH 4 hydrates, particularly those containing thermodynamic inhibitors, are limited. This study employed the single-crystal phase boundary method to determine the three-phase equilibrium conditions (H–Lw–V) of H 2 S/CH 4 mixed hydrates in pure water and with inhibitors (NaCl, KCl, CaCl 2 , MgCl 2 , methanol, and ethylene glycol) at pressures of up to 30 MPa. Raman spectroscopy revealed that the H 2 S/CH 4 mixture forms structure I hydrate, with the H 2 S and CH 4 molecules occupying both large and small cages, and their Raman peaks shifting to higher wavenumbers with increasing temperature. We developed and validated a thermodynamic model integrating the PRSV equation of state for the vapor phase, the Chen-Guo model for the hydrate phase, and the Pitzer/UNIQUAC models for the aqueous phase. This model accurately predicted equilibrium pressures for pure water, methanol, KCl, and MgCl₂ solutions, with an absolute average relative deviation of less than 10%. However, it systematically underestimated pressures for NaCl, high-concentration ethylene glycol, and CaCl₂, revealing limitations in aqueous activity predictions. Assessment of inhibitor performance and economic feasibility indicated that methanol provides effective and economical inhibition for sour gas transport at ~10 MPa. This study provides essential high-pressure data and Raman spectroscopic insights and establishes a reliable thermodynamic modeling framework for H 2 S/CH 4 hydrates, supporting flow assurance management, inhibitor selection, and model optimization.

A series of promoter-doped Raney copper catalysts were prepared via a dealloying method, and their catalytic performance was evaluated in the reverse water–gas shift (RWGS) reaction. It was found that significantly improved CO 2 conversion and CO selectivity were achieved upon Mn doping over the catalyst. Mn existed in the form of a highly dispersed MnO phase, effectively regulating the electronic state and geometry of the active Cu component, thereby promoting the dissociation and adsorption of H 2 and the activation of CO 2 . Under optimized reaction conditions of a gas space velocity of 3000 mL·g cat −1 ·h −1 , a temperature of 600°C, and a Mn doping content of 5 wt%, the catalyst demonstrated a CO 2 conversion of 37.8% and a CO selectivity of 99.9%. Furthermore, after reaction at 600°C for 200 h, the catalyst retained high catalytic activity and structural stability, demonstrating promising prospects for practical application. This study provides crucial theoretical support and experimental evidence for designing highly efficient and stable Cu-based catalysts for the RWGS reaction. Graphical Mn-doped Raney copper catalysts were prepared by dealloying. The Mn promoter was uniformly and highly dispersed in the catalyst in the form of MnO, which enhanced the CO 2 adsorption capacity and H 2 dissociation capacity, thereby improving the catalytic performance of the RWGS reaction.
