h-BN is modified via synergistic KH550 and Span 80. BNKS nanosheets sustain stable dispersion in ester oil 1190 for 7 days. • BNKS nanofluids show less viscosity rise. BNKS-5 has 8.27% higher thermal conductivity (0.1693 W·m −1 ·K −1 , 20 ℃) vs ester oil. • BNKS-5 nanofluid lowers battery module maximum temperature difference to 4.80 °C at 4 L/min. Immersion cooling technology enables efficient heat dissipation through direct heat exchange between coolants and components. Ester oils are considered potential cooling media owing to their biodegradability and excellent thermal stability; however, their low thermal conductivity limits further improvement in cooling performance. Thus, this study proposed and implemented a synergistic mechanism combining chemical bonding and physical adsorption through the surface modification of h-BN with KH550 and Span 80. Nanofluids were prepared using ester oil 1190 as the base fluid, and their dispersion stability, rheological properties, and thermal conductivity were evaluated. Numerical simulations were further conducted to assess the cooling performance of the BNKS nanofluid in an immersion cooling system. The results demonstrated that the modified BNKS nanosheets exhibited improved short-term dispersion stability in ester oil 1190 compared with h-BN, maintaining stable dispersion after 7 days of static sedimentation. Moreover, surface modification reduced the viscosity increase of high-concentration nanofluids. At 20 °C, the BNKS-5 nanofluid achieved a thermal conductivity of 0.1693 W·m −1 ·K −1 , corresponding to an 8.27% enhancement compared with ester oil 1190. At a flow rate of 4 L/min, the BNKS-5 nanofluid decreased the maximum temperature difference of the battery module to 4.80 °C and maintained an average temperature of 26.78 °C, indicating enhanced temperature uniformity and cooling performance. This study proposed a synergistic surface modification strategy that integrated KH550-induced chemical bonding with the physical adsorption of Span 80 to improve the dispersion stability and thermal transport properties of ester oil-based h-BN nanofluids, highlighting their potential for immersion cooling applications.

Oily wastewater discharge severely endangers ecology and human health, driving demand for oil-water separation materials with high efficiency and environmental friendliness. In this study, the H-ZSM-5 molecular sieves were incorporated into PVA matrix and loaded onto stainless steel mesh (SSM) to construct H-ZSM-5/PVA@SSM composite hydrogel separation material. H-ZSM-5 builds continuous water transport channels for large water flux, increases surface roughness on composite hydrogels to form stable hydration layers and improve oil resistance, while hydrogen bonding reinforces adhesion with PVA matrix. Meanwhile, the SSM as rigid supporting framework offers steady mechanical support for hydrogel coating, and effectively improve material mechanical strength and reusability. The optimal H-ZSM-5/PVA-0.5@SSM sample achieves markedly increased water flux rising from 113.04 L m −2 h −1 (PVA@SSM) to 735.82 L m −2 h −1 , while maintaining separation efficiency above 96% after 30 cycles. Besides, the material gains oil-in-water emulsion separation efficiency up to 99.80% with water flux of 1.086 × 10 5 L m −2 h −1 bar −1 . Also, the H-ZSM-5/PVA-0.5 composite hydrogel gains tensile strength enhancement from 22.16 MPa to 26.97 MPa compared to pristine PVA hydrogel. By integrating H-ZSM-5 porous transport merit, PVA hydrophilicity and SSM rigid support, the H-ZSM-5/PVA-0.5@SSM achieves efficient purification of oily wastewater and emulsions.

Calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H), the principal binding phase in Portland cement, plays a critical role in the immobilization of heavy metals, yet a quantitative and mechanistic understanding of Cu 2+ uptake by C-S-H remains incomplete. This study investigates the immobilization behavior of Cu 2+ by C-S-H with systematically controlled Ca/Si ratios (0.6–1.6) and develops a thermodynamically consistent sublattice solid-solution model. The C-S-Hs were synthesized under sorption equilibrium conditions and characterized to determine their structural evolution with Ca/Si ratio. Cu 2+ sorption was subsequently examined on pre-synthesized C-S-Hs, combined with spectroscopic analyses to elucidate Cu coordination environments. The results show that Cu 2+ is immobilized predominantly through structural incorporation at low Cu 2+ loadings rather than hydroxide precipitation. With increasing Cu 2+ concentration, Cu 2+ progressively intercalates into the interlayers of C-S-H, partially replacing interlayer Ca 2+ and forming Si-O-Cu linkages associated with Q 2 silicate sites. The Ca/Si ratio strongly controls both uptake capacity and binding mechanism. High Ca/Si ratios promote silicate-chain polymerization through conversion of Q 1 to Q 2 units, whereas extremely low Ca/Si ratios induce redistribution between Q 2 and Q b 2 species. At intermediate Ca/Si ratios, Cu 2+ is mainly stabilized as hydroxyl-associated species. Once the sorption capacity is exceeded, excess Cu 2+ transforms into CuO under alkaline conditions. Based on these observations, a CASH+Cu thermodynamic model incorporating five Cu-bearing endmembers was developed and calibrated using both aqueous and solid-phase data. The model quantitatively reproduces Cu uptake, solution chemistry, and phase assemblages, providing a predictive framework for Cu 2+ retention in cementitious systems.

In hot and humid climates, establishing continuous and energy-efficient humidity control strategies is crucial for improving indoor environmental quality. However, most existing adsorption dehumidification systems are unable to operate continuously due to the necessary regeneration process of adsorbent materials. Therefore, this study proposes a solar-driven dual-channel ventilated Trombe wall system based on MOFs, which achieves 24-h continuous indoor dehumidification via alternating adsorption-desorption operations. MOFs/CF is employed as the adsorption bed. Two identical beds operate in an alternating manner, utilizing cold and hot water circulation to provide the driving force for the adsorption and regeneration processes, respectively. Cold water is supplied at 25 °C and hot water is provided by solar energy. The comprehensive performance of the system is evaluated through modular experimental testing and numerical simulations. Experimental results demonstrate that the MOFs/CF adsorption bed achieves a maximum adsorption capacity of 0.91 g/g. Elevating the desorption temperature enhances the regeneration performance; at a desorption temperature of 80 °C, the peak relative humidity difference between the inlet and outlet air reaches 12.8%. Furthermore, simulation results reveal that with a single adsorption bed featuring an effective area of 0.4 m 2 and an MOF loading of 0.96 kg, the system achieves its maximum dehumidification capacity under the 80 °C condition. In this scenario, the system completes approximately five cycles within 24 h and yields a total daily moisture removal of 4.54 kg. In addition, the system demonstrates superior overall performance under the 70 °C condition, where the thermal driving efficiency peaks at 87.22%.

The research and progress of noble metal catalysts possessing good stability and extended service life holds significant importance in enhancing catalytic efficiency, reducing enterprise costs, and fostering sustainable social development. Here, a hollow magnetic h-Au/PDA@PDA@Fe 3 O 4 catalyst with a double-layer PDA structure was prepared to optimize the stability of gold nanoparticles (NPs) using for the 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) reduction. The research indicates that, despite the initial activity of h-Au/PDA@PDA@Fe 3 O 4 , with a mass-normalized rate ( k’ ) of 176.10 s −1 ·g Au -1 and a Turn Over Frequency (TOF) of 1757 h −1 , being smaller than h-Au/PDA@Fe 3 O 4 with a single-layer structure ( k’ = 461.76 s −1 ·g Au -1 , TOF = 6387 h −1 ), h-Au/PDA@PDA@Fe 3 O 4 exhibits significantly superior stability compared to h-Au/PDA@Fe 3 O 4 . After undergoing 12 cycles of use, the conversion rate of h-Au/PDA@PDA@Fe 3 O 4 decreased by only 4.3 %. After cyclic reaction, the conversion rate of h-Au/PDA@Fe 3 O 4 decreased by as much as 64.8 %. The distinctive hollow double-layer structure of h-Au/PDA@PDA@Fe 3 O 4 , along with the interaction between Au and PDA, contributes significantly to its exceptional activity and stability. The research presented in this paper offers valuable insights and guidance for the suitable construction and industrial application of gold-based nano catalyst with good activity and cyclic stability.

Nickel sulfide (NiSx) catalysts typically suffer from sluggish kinetics and poor stability under ampere-level current densities in the alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). To address this, we construct Cr2O3-embedded Ni7S6 nanowires on nickel foam (Ni7S6−Cr2O3/NF) with tailored work function differences. Operando analyses and theoretical calculations reveal that interfacial charge redistribution creates a hydrogen-rich microenvironment by accelerating water dissociation at electron-deficient Cr sites and optimizing H* adsorption at electron-rich Ni sites. The catalyst achieves an industrially relevant current density of −1000 mA cm−2 at an overpotential of 369 mV and maintains stability for 1000 h due to the protective Cr2O3 layer. Furthermore, the assembled anion exchange membrane electrolyzer operates at only 1.86 V to deliver 1000 mA cm−2 and remains stable for 500 h. This work highlights interface engineering of local microenvironments as an effective strategy for developing industrial grade electrocatalysts for alkaline HER.

Photocatalytic oxidation of toluene to valuable benzaldehyde offers a promising pathway for sustainable production of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals. In this process, photogenerated holes play a crucial role in C(sp 3 )-H bond dissociation. However, the photocatalytic performance of current photocatalysts is often hindered by the low separation and transfer efficiency of photogenerated charges. In this work, we presented a perovskite-based heterostructure via in situ growth of defective WO 3- x nanosheets on Cs 2 AgBiBr 6 nanoparticles for photocatalytic toluene transformation. In situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy tests proved the introduction of oxygen-deficient WO 3- x component enhanced the chemisorption of molecular oxygen. The in situ electron paramagnetic resonance and 4-chloro-7-nitro-1,2,3-benzoxadiazole fluorescence measurements further confirmed the presence of oxygen vacancies, and the formation of heterostructure synergistically accelerated the formation of the superoxide radicals and the transfer of photogenerated charge carriers. Under visible light irradiation, Cs 2 AgBiBr 6 /WO 3- x photocatalyst could effectively oxidize toluene toward benzaldehyde with a conversion rate of 9020 μmol g −1 h −1 , which was a 3.5-fold increase over that of the unmodified Cs 2 AgBiBr 6 . This study investigates gradient cemented carbide with a cubic phase-free surface layer (CFL), commonly used as substrates for coated inserts to extend their service life. The tough gradient surface layer effectively prevents crack propagation, minimizing coating delamination and edge chipping. We propose using hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) as a non-cubic nitrogen source for fabricating gradient cemented carbide with cubic (W,Ti)C, as a replacement for traditional cubic nitrogen sources. By employing powder metallurgy, we successfully created gradient cemented carbide with a CFL derived from h-BN. We also analyze the mechanism of gradient structure formation and characterize the microstructure, elemental distribution, and mechanical properties of the novel materials. The results demonstrate the feasibility of producing gradient cemented carbides with a CFL when h-BN is used as the nitrogen source. The crystal orientations at the gradient boundary are randomly distributed, showing no abrupt interface between the surface layer and the interior. Notably, titanium (Ti) and boron (B) are nearly absent in the surface layer, while cobalt (Co) shows higher concentration compared to the interior. The use of h-BN facilitates a nearly homogeneous titanium distribution in the subsurface zone, contrasting with the clustering seen when traditional cubic TiN is employed as the nitrogen source. Additionally, the thickness of the gradient surface layer can be effectively controlled by adjusting the h-BN levels, increasing with higher h-BN content in the raw materials. However, excessive h-BN addition facilitates abnormal WC phase growth in cemented carbides, and negatively affects transverse rupture strength despite the toughening effects of the cubic phase-free layer. Increased h-BN content also promotes the formation of TiB phases, which enhances the hardness of the cemented carbide.

Nacre-like polymer nanocomposites have become fascinating material nowadays because of their exceptional mechanical property. In this study, nacre-like waterborne polyurethane/hexagonal boron nitride (WPU/h-BN) nanocomposite with high-thermal, mechanical and water resistance has been successfully prepared via mechanical blending method. Owing to strong interfacial interactions and a nacre-like structure, the WPU/h-BN nanocomposite with a loading amount of 30 wt% exhibits excellent tensile strength of 27.3 MPa, compared with 4.16 MPa for pure WPU. Additionally, it has an exceptional maximum decomposition temperature of 443 °C and an outstanding water absorption ratio of 8.1 %. This approach of adopting h-BN and WPU to construct nacre-like structure may provide a new path for preparing high performance WPU strategies.

Clay is a rich aluminosilicate resource with unique advantages as a raw material for zeolites production. However, synthesizing nanosized single-crystalline zeolites through a simple approach using clay remains a significant challenge. In this paper, acid-washed montmorillonite (MSR) was used to prepare nano-H-ZSM-5 single crystals with high crystallinity, uniform grain size and permeable straight pores under the induction of a small amount of organic template tetrapropylammonium hydroxide (TPAOH). Through temperature-staged treatment, the nucleation and growth process of zeolite were decoupled, ultimately achieving precise control over the size of the nano-single crystals. Mechanistic study showed that the low-temperature aging process produces smaller structural units which probably derived from the geopolymer topology of the clay, providing more active sites for zeolite nucleation, leading to the rapid crystallization during the high-temperature process. The porous structure promotes material diffusion, inhibits aromatic cycling and reduces carbon formation in the pores. The large specific surface area and nanoscale multilayer pore structure delay carbon accumulation and increase carbon holding capacity. These properties make nano-ZSM-5 single crystals an excellent choice for high olefin selectivity and long catalytic life in the methanol-to-olefin reaction. This synthetic route provides a general strategy for preparing nanosized zeolite single crystals from clay.

With the rapid development of electronic devices and rubber tires, the industry has put forward new requirements for the heat dissipation of rubber components. With excellent thermal conductivity, oxidation resistance, and thermal stability, hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) is often added to plastics or rubber as a thermally conductive filler, but is less effective when used directly. In this study, h-BN-K was prepared by direct modification of the mixed solution of KH-550, and KH-570, while h-BN-PK was prepared by co-modification of dopamine, KH-550, and KH-570. Two modified h-BN were added to natural rubber (NR) to improve the vulcanization properties, mechanical properties, and thermal conductivity. It was found that the tensile strength and thermal conductivity of 20 wt% h-BN-PK/NR composites were 30.6 MPa and 0.335 W/mK, which were 39.1% and 110.7% higher compared to pure NR (22.0 MPa and 0.159 W/mK), respectively. In addition, the addition of h-BN improved the thermal stability performance of NR to some extent. In conclusion, the h-BN-PK/NR composites provide a certain reference for the use of thermally conductive NR and suggest new ideas for heat dissipation of electronic devices.

The h-BN/ZrO 2 composites with different 3Y–ZrO 2 content were prepared by spark plasma sintering at 1800 °C. The sintering behavior , bulk density, apparent porosity , thermal conductivity , thermal expansion coefficient , bending strength , thermal shock resistance , microstructure and phase were analyzed. The optimum specimens were used to test the resistance to corrosion of molten steel for 10, 20, 40, 80 min respectively. The results indicated that ZrO 2 could facilitate the sintering process of h-BN matrix under the action of spark plasma. Especially, for the composites with 30 wt% 3Y–ZrO 2 , the porosity could decrease to 1.1% and the flexural strength could exceed 150 MPa. The microstructure showed the h-BN grains and 3Y–ZrO 2 grains are closely combined. The XRD patterns indicated that the t-ZrO 2 diffraction peak gradually enhanced with the increase of density. With the increase of erosion time, the erosion rate increased significantly. After the surface of the specimen is eroded, the erosion resistance of the matrix would decrease significantly. This h-BN/ZrO 2 could be as side-dam used in the thin strip continuous casting process .
