Carbon-based materials hold significant potential for electromagnetic absorption applications, however, the development of effective discrete dual-band absorbers remains a formidable challenge. In this study, we synthesized BaTiO₃@reduced graphene oxide (BTO@rGO) composite aerogel via ascorbic acid-assisted thermal reduction, enhanced by a freeze-thaw treatment. This treatment induces a bimodal mesoporous structure, with pore size centered at 2.2 nm and 3.9 nm, which significantly boosts the aerogel’s specific surface area of 15.95 m² g⁻¹ . Additionally, the freeze-thaw process enriches the rGO with defect dipoles and reduces the Ba 2 + content on the surface sites. These structural and compositional features synergistically contribute to the composite’s discrete dual-band absorption characteristic. Specifically, the composite achieves minimum reflection loss values of −13.8 dB in the C-band (4.7–5.7 GHz) and −20.7 dB in the Ku-band (15.4–17.6 GHz) at a thickness of 5.0 mm, which aligns well with the quarter-wavelength theory. This innovative structural design strategy, which transforms single-frequency absorbers into dual-frequency absorbers, offers a novel and effective approach for developing advanced dual-frequency absorbing materials.

Two-dimensional transition metal carbides (MXene) show great promise for use in flexible optoelectronics, but they are prone to rapid oxidation and nanosheet restacking, which can degrade the device performance and longevity. In this study, we address this issue by creating a dual-network conductive hydrogel made up of Ti2CTx MXene and reduced graphene oxide (rGO). The rGO nanosheets act as conductive spacers, preventing the restacking and oxidation of the Ti2CTx nanosheets while enabling charge transport. The resulting Ti2CTx/rGO composite hydrogel achieves an impressive photocurrent density of 0.375 μA cm–2 under a 0.4 V bias and 120 mW cm–2 of illumination. This is 68.2% higher than that of a pure MXene hydrogel (0.223 μA cm–2). Furthermore, the composite demonstrates outstanding mechanical and environmental stability. It retains 79.2% of its photocurrent under 200% tensile strain compared to 53.8% for the pure MXene system and exhibits only a 40% decrease in photocurrent after 15 days, significantly outperforming the 70% decay observed in the control device. This work provides an effective strategy for developing stable, high-performance MXene-based hydrogels for advanced, wearable, optoelectronic applications.

Electromagnetic functional materials are playing an increasingly vital role in electromagnetic interference shielding, stealth protection, and information security. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs), owing to their unique structure and outstanding electromagnetic properties, have attracted widespread attention. Here, a 3D Co/CoO/RGO/CNT crosslinked heterostructure was fabricated by in-situ growth of CNTs on Co(CO 3 ) 0 · 5 (OH)·0.11H 2 O precursors that were crosslinked with reduced graphene oxide through a combined hydrothermal and chemical vapor deposition strategy. The resulting interconnected conductive heterostructures significantly enhanced electron transport, interfacial polarization, and impedance matching. Notably, the optimized composites achieved a minimum reflection loss of −23.95 dB with an effective absorption bandwidth of 4.2 GHz (at 10 wt% filler loading and 2.17 mm thickness), fully covering the X-band. Furthermore, the study of heterointerfaces between different components and their underlying loss mechanisms provides critical insights into the electromagnetic wave absorption behavior and guides the rational design of advanced structural materials. Density functional theory simulations were also employed to investigate the electronic structure and charge distribution at the Co–CoO and Co–CNT interfaces. The simulation results reveal that charge redistribution and the formation of interface dipoles contribute to enhanced dielectric and magnetic losses, offering a microscopic explanation for the superior microwave absorption performance.

The antibacterial activity and mechanism of reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-modified TiO 2 were assessed against Enterobacter hormaechei in this study. The rGO-modified TiO 2 exhibited an enhanced antibacterial activity against E. hormaechei under UV–Visible light irradiation compared with individual TiO 2 or rGO alone. Its effectiveness owed to the synergistic effect of the improved adsorption and the lower recombination of photo-induced electron–hole pairs. The hybrid photocatalyst improved charge separation and chemical binding activity that contributed to accelerated antibacterial process. The flow cytometry results showed that the hybrid photocatalyst reduced the survival ratio of E. hormaechei to about 10% with 90 min under visible light illumination. The XPS spectra and SEM micrographs indicated a direct physical contact and disruptive interaction between the bacteria and the rGO-TiO 2 catalyst, mostly on rGO, resulting in oxidizing a vital cellular structure. EPR measurement revealed that hydroxyl radicals were the dominant active species that can cause the peroxidation of lipids in the outer cell wall and the damage of cell organelles and components inside the bacteria, which is the key mechanism for this antibacterial process. Overall, this study indicated that rGO-modified TiO 2 nanocomposite has great potential as an economical, environmentally friendly and easily available antibacterial material for antibacterial.

A novel carbon fiber paper loaded with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was used as the substrate, on which Pt–Ni nanoparticles were electro-deposited as to prepare an integrated electrode by two electrochemical methods (cyclic voltammetry and square wave pulse). The electrochemical tests indicated two integrated electrodes had excellent performance towards methanol oxidation . Especially, Pt-Ni-CV(A)-rGO/CFP electrode showed the highest electrocatalytic activity , and mass activity reached 5.33 A·mg −1 Pt , which was about 5.6 times that of the commercial Pt/C catalyst (JM). Further, after annealing under a reducing atmosphere, two electrodes exhibited completely different changes in the aspects of morphology and electrocatalytic performance. It can be attributed to the changes of element distribution and morphology of nanoparticles after annealing. The as-prepared Pt–Ni-rGO/CFPs composite electrode is promising for integrated electrode of proton exchange membrane fuel cells. This work opens an avenue for the preparation of high-performance integrated electrode.

Electromagnetic (EM) wave absorber with the characteristics of thin thickness, strong absorption capacity and broad absorption bandwidth is desirable to address the EM radiation. In this work, the flower-like Cu 9 S 5 /RGO (CSR) composites were synthesized via a solvothermal method. Various kinds of characterizations were utilized to certify the successful preparation and properties of CSR composites. To explore the EM wave absorption performance of the CSR composites, we measured the EM parameters and calculated the reflection loss (RL) values of all the samples. Owing to the comprehensive effect of well impedance matching and large attenuation constant , the CSR-2 sample exhibited the minimum RL value of −51.9 dB at the thickness of 2.8 mm, and the widest effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) is 3.92 GHz in 1.5 mm. Furthermore, the absorption mechanisms were revealed, the impressive EM wave absorption performance of the CSR-2 is inseparable from the conductive loss and polarization relaxation, as well as the slight magnetic loss. We consider that the CSR composite can be a promising candidate for efficient and superior EM wave absorption absorber.

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have been widely studied as a promising sulfur host material in Li-S batteries due to their unique physical and chemical properties. Great efforts have been made to prepare carbon/TMDs, especially graphene/TMDs heterostructures as the cathodes of Li-S batteries. Recently, ReS 2 shows a new 1T′ phase and great potential in Li-S batteries because of its stable structure and a large amount of catalytic active sites. Herein, we prepared a new ReS 2 nanosheets anchored on rGO (rGO/1T′-ReS 2 ) composite as a lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) immobilizer and electrocatalyst for Li-S batteries. The unique pore structure and rGO incorporation can effectively mitigate volume expansion and enhance electronical conductivity. Moreover, the novel 1T′ phase of ReS 2 shows both efficient chemical adsorption function and large electrocatalytic active sites of LiPSs . These advantages have been demonstrated by both characterization techniques and theoretical calculations. As a result, the rGO/1T′-ReS 2 /S nanosheets display significantly enhanced coulombic efficiency, rate performance and cycling stability compared with the rGO/S nanosheets and the rGO/1T′-ReS 2 /S nanospheres.

A heterogeneous Fenton-like catalyst with single redox site has a rate-limiting step in oxidant activation, which limited its application in wastewater purification. To overcome this, a bimetallic doping strategy was designed to prepare a heterogeneous Fenton-like catalyst (Fe-Mo/rGO) with a double-reaction center. Combined with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and density functional theory calculation, it was confirmed that the formation of an electron-rich Mo center and an electron-deficient Fe center through the constructed Fe-O-Mo and Mo-S-C bonding bridges induced a higher electron transfer capability in the Fe-Mo/rGO catalyst. The designed Fe-Mo/rGO catalyst exhibited excellent sulfamethazine (SMT) degradation efficiency in a broad pH range (4.8–8.4). The catalytic performance was hardly affected by inorganic anions (Cl−, SO42−and HCO3−) in the complicated and variable water environment. Compared to Fe/rGO and Mo/rGO catalysts, the SMT degradation efficiency increased by about 14.6 and 1.6 times in heterogeneous Fenton-like reaction over Fe-Mo/rGO catalyst. The electron spin resonance and radical scavenger experiments proved that ·O2−/HO2· and1O2dominate the SMT removal in the Fe-Mo/rGO/H2O2system. Fe and Mo, as active centers co-supported on rGO, significantly enhanced the electron transfer between catalyst, oxidant, and pollutants, which accelerated the reactive oxygen species generation and effectively improved the SMT degradation. Our findings offer a novel perspective to enhance the performance of heterogeneous Fenton-like catalysts by accelerating the electron transfer rate in the degradation of organic pollutants. Keywords:heterogeneous Fenton-like reaction;Fe-Mo dual-reaction-center catalyst;reactive oxygen species;sulfamethazine

Novel three-dimensional string and ball-like titanium dioxide/reduced graphene oxide, TiO 2 /rGO (STG) composites were prepared using a one-step hydrolysis process followed by a low-temperature hydrothermal treatment. The STG composites exhibited excellent photo-catalytic degradation performance for methylene blue owing to a good synergistic effect between TiO 2 and rGO. The STG composites with 1.0 wt% of rGO loading exhibited the highest removal rate of 86.0% for methylene blue and its reaction rate constant (5.27 × 10 −3 min −1 ) was much higher than those of pure string and ball-like TiO 2 (ST). In addition, the STG composites also showed an outstanding capability for the photo-catalysis degradation of other cationic dyes. In addition, a possible photo-catalytic degradation mechanism for the STG composite was postulated, in which \(^{ \bullet } {\text{O}}_{2}^{ - }\) and • OH were the main oxidizing groups. This work offers new insights into a better design and preparation of novel composite materials for the removal of organic dyes.

A three-dimensionally interconnected molybdenum trioxide (MoO3)/polypyrrole (PPy)/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) composite was synthesized via an eco-friendly three-step method. The as-obtained electrode shows a high specific capacity of 412.3 F g–1 at a current density of 0.5 A g–1 and a good cycling stability (85.1% of the initial specific capacitance after 6000 cycles at 2 A g–1 is retained), and these excellent electrochemical performances can be attributed to the unique structure, remarkable electrical conductivity, and the synergetic effects between MoO3, PPy, and rGO. Furthermore, a symmetric supercapacitor based on a MoO3/PPy/rGO electrode was assembled to investigate the practical application performance of this material. The results demonstrate a high energy density of 19.8 W h kg–1 at a power density of 301 W kg–1. These findings shine a light on the rational design of electrode materials with multicomponents for high-performance supercapacitors.

In the realm of glucose detection, nickel-based and copper-based nanocomposites have garnered significant attention due to their exceptional catalytic performance and high sensitivity. This study realized linear detection across dual concentration ranges in alkaline media by in situ growing Ni/Cu-BTC spherical nanocatalysts on reduced graphene oxide (rGO). From 350 μM to 2.95 mM, with a low detection limit (LOD L ) of 21.7 μM (S/N = 3) and a sensitivity (S L ) of 40 nA mM −1 cm −2 ; from 2.95 mM to 9.45 mM, the high-concentration detection limit (LOD H ) is 1.1 mM (S/N = 3), with an improved sensitivity (S H ) of 165.7 nA mM −1 cm −2 . The response time (t) is under 2 s. Additionally, the sensor demonstrated robust interference resistance, excellent stability (%RSD = 3.57 %), repeatability (%RSD = 2.27 %), and reproducibility (%RSD = 2.34 %). In real-world sample testing, this sensor measured glucose concentrations in plasma from healthy individuals both on an empty stomach and half an hour after eating, with a relative standard deviation range of 0.94 %–2.33 %. These results suggest that the rGO-Ni/Cu-BTC composite is a promising enzyme-free electrochemical sensing material for glucose detection

Foodborne pathogenic bacteria can cause food poisoning or infection. Salmonella is an aerobic or partly anaerobic gram-negative bacterium that enters the body with food, invades the intestine and releases large amounts of endotoxin. The endotoxin acts as a pyrogen that leads to an increase in body temperature and acts on the intestinal mucosa to trigger systemic inflammation and toxic symptoms in the host. The development of novel methods and systems for the monitoring and detection of foodborne pathogenic bacteria is of great significance for food safety, especially the development of simple, high-throughput and highly sensitive rapid detection techniques. This work proposes a novel aptamer sensor based on reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-AuNPs for the detection of Salmonella in food. Firstly the rGO and AuNPs were modified on the surface of glassy carbon electrode in turn, and then a highly sensitive sensor was made by designing a segment of thiolated aptamer probe that could specifically capture Salmonella . The high electron transport ability of rGO and the advantage of large specific surface area of AuNPs were adopted to achieve signal amplification and improve the detection capability. In the presence of Salmonella , the aptamer traps and immobilizes Salmonella on the surface of the electrode, resulting in a change in the immediate current in the sensor and realizing quantitative detection of Salmonella based on the change in electrical signal. Under the optimized conditions, the response current of the constructed aptamer sensor is linearly related to the logarithmic value of Salmonella concentration, with a linear range of 6×10 2 cfu/mL~6×10 7 cfu/mL and a detection limit of 200 cfu/mL (S/N=3). Meanwhile, this sensor has been successfully applied in the detection of Salmonella in pork and beef.
