Enhanced photoluminescence quantum yield and stability of CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals by post-synthetic treatment with tin (Ⅱ) bromide

Shengfeng Tang,Yu Zhao,Jiachen Kang,Wenzhe Huang,Gufeng He

Surface vacancies are commonly formed during the synthesis and purification of perovskite nanocrystals (NCs), which usually lower the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and stability. In this study, we demonstrate a facile post-synthetic treatment with SnBr 2 to passivate the existing Pb 2+ and Br − vacancies on the surface of CsPbBr 3 NCs. The PLQY of passivated NCs in the solution increases from 73% to 94%, and the average fluorescence lifetime of CsPbBr 3 NC film is prolonged from 7.77 to 9.78 ns, indicating a higher degree of radiative recombination of electron-hole pairs. The CsPbBr 3 NCs treated by SnBr 2 present higher stability with 82% of the original PLQY after two weeks of storage in ambient atmosphere, while the PLQY of untreated NCs drastically drops to 58%. Furthermore, the maximum current efficiency of the light-emitting diode based on the modified CsPbBr 3 NCs is enhanced by a factor of 2.5. It is believed that the proposed post-synthetic treatment method is promising in enhancing the PLQY and stability of perovskite NCs, as well as promoting the efficiency of the electroluminescent device.

Superhydrophobic TiN-Coated Cotton Fabrics with Nanoscale Roughness and Photothermal Self-Healing Properties for Effective Oil–Water Separation

Hai-Tao Ren,Chao-Chen Cai,Wen-Bo Cao,Da-Shuai Li,Ting-Ting Li,Ching-Wen Lou,Jia-Horng Lin

A sustainable and strong superhydrophobic photothermal self-healing cotton fabric (SPS cotton fabric) was prepared by the simple one-pot method using nano-titanium nitride (TiN), hydroxyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (HPDMS), and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS). After nano-TiN is adsorbed to the cotton fabric by hydrogen bonding, HPDMS and TEOS are catalyzed by ammonia to form a PDMS-SiO2 hybrid on the cotton fabric, and finally the SPS cotton fabric is obtained. After plasma etching, cotton fabric can quickly restore superhydrophobicity by light irradiation. The micro–nanocoating on the SPS cotton fabric can resist at least 10 sandpaper abrasion cycles and etching of acid and alkali solutions without losing its superhydrophobicity. Owing to the good water repellency, the separation efficiency of the SPS cotton fabric can reach more than 98.00% for various oil–water mixtures. Even after 10 separation cycles, the separation efficiency only decreased by 0.20%, showing potential applications for waste oil treatment.

TiN anchored mesoporous single-crystalline LaTiO2N with ohmic contact to expedite photocarrier separation for efficient photocatalytic water splitting

Lina Wang,Jinxing Yu,Zhuo Li,Xiaoxiang Xu

LaTiO 2 N is a promising photocatalyst for solar water splitting but is generally subject to a low activity due to inadequate separation of photocarriers (i.e . e - and h + ). Loading noble metal cocatalysts such as Pt often has limited improvements because of their Schottky-type interfaces with LaTiO 2 N, resulting in a deficient electron collection at the surface catalytic sites. In this work, TiN nanoparticles have been firmly anchored at the surface of mesoporous single-crystalline LaTiO 2 N. As opposed to Pt, TiN has an ohmic contact with LaTiO 2 N due to a comparable work function and the structurally matched heterointerfaces. Such a tight and ohmic connection enables TiN to readily collect electrons from LaTiO 2 N, which in turn substantially improves the photocarrier separation and photocatalytic activity. These findings justify that TiN is an ideal relay for electron transfer between n-type semiconductors and noble metal cocatalysts which would otherwise be very difficult when the Schottky-type interfaces are formed.

Electrolyte Solvation Structure Manipulation and Synthetic Optimization for Enhanced Potassium Storage of Tin Phosphide/Carbon Alloy-Based Electrode

Zhen Feng,Ruoxuan Chen,Rui Huang,Fangli Zhang,Weizhen Liu,Sailin Liu

Phosphorus-based materials are considered to be reliable anode materials for potassium ion batteries (PIBs) due to their high theoretical capacity but suffer from inferior cycling stability and an unstable Solid Electrolyte Interface (SEI) layer. Herein, optimized ball-milled parameters and concentrated electrolytes are introduced to enhance the electrochemical performance of Sn4P3/C anodes. Consequently, the electrodes synthesized under optimized ball milling parameters could deliver a reversible capacity of 307.8 mA h g−1in diluted Potassium hexafluorophosphate (KPF6) electrolyte. Moreover, compared with diluted bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (KFSI) electrolyte, a robust inorganic KF-rich SEI layer can be formed on the electrode’s surface by employing concentrated KFSI electrolyte and provides more rapid K ion conduction rates. Meanwhile, a large proportion of the FSI−anions participated in the K+solvation shell when the KFSI concentration increased. As a result, high specific capacities (225.1 mA h g−1at 50 mA g−1after 200 cycles) and excellent Coulombic efficiency (97.24% at 500 mA g−1after 200 cycles) can be achieved. This work may deepen our understanding of synthetic optimization in electrode material design and the role of concentrated electrolyte in tunning the solvation structure, and also offer an insightful clue to the design of high-capacity phosphorus-based anodes.Keywords:phosphorus-based anode;ball-milling;concentrated electrolyte;solvation structure;SEI layer

Indium tin oxide as a dual-band compatible stealth material with low infrared emissivity and strong microwave absorption

Yang Xu,Gengping Wan,Lingling Ma,Ying Zhang,Yanran Su,Disheng Liu,Guizhen Wang

With the explosive development of modern military detection technology, stealth compatibility for materials with both outstanding microwave absorption (MA) and low infrared emissivity is urgently needed. In this paper, indium tin oxide (ITO) nanoparticles with high-efficiency MA and infrared stealth properties were successfully prepared by a steerable method using metal chloride salts as indium and tin sources, and the influence of tin proportion on their structure and properties was discussed. The prepared ITO nanoparticles possessing abundant carriers and defects are beneficial to construct a suitable conductive network, and the polarization process is enhanced by the existence of homogeneous and heterogeneous interfaces, so that strong absorption is generated. Remarkably, the obtained ITO with a single dielectric loss type can realize an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 4.88 GHz with a matching thickness of 2.8 mm. In addition, ITO-5 has the lowest infrared emissivity (0.62) in the range of 3–14 μm, while ITO-10 exhibits the best infrared/radar compatible stealth effect. The lowest reflection loss and the widest EAB for ITO-10 are respectively −20.07 dB and 3.83 GHz, while the infrared emissivity is 0.64. Therefore, ITO shows a broad application prospect in anti-detection, and provides an option for multispectral compatible stealth materials.

Effect of current density and deposition time on microstructure and corrosion resistance of Ni-W/TiN nanocomposite coating

Baosong Li,Dandan Li,Wei Chen,Yuying Liu,Jun Zhang,Yulei Wei,Weiwei Zhang,Wanchun Jia

Ni-W/TiN nanocomposite coatings were successfully prepared via pulse electroplating from an electrolyte containing suspended TiN nanoparticles . The effects of applied current density and deposition time on microstructure, morphology, composition, hardness and electrochemical behaviors of the obtained coatings were investigated. Results showed that the current density and deposition time affect remarkably the electrochemical co-deposition process and then the structure and characteristics of the composites. It illustrated that the nanocomposites are uniform, compact and crack-free. The nanocomposites prepared at I a = 3 A dm −2 and t  = 20 min had the finest structure, showing a fine and smooth surface. EDS mapping and XPS spectra illustrated that the TiN nanoparticles had been homogeneously dispersed throughout the coating. 2.34 wt% TiN nanoparticles were embedded in Ni–W (68.56 wt% Ni and 29.1 wt% W) alloy matrix at I a = 3.0 A dm −2 . The inclusion of TiN nanoparticles in Ni–W could promote the nucleation and cause a distinct microstructural change. The crystallite size was in the range of 11–15 nm. The average roughness value ( R a ) is 65.7 nm and 73.8 nm for coating formed at 20 min and 40 min, respectively. The electrochemical measurements illustrated that I a = 3–5 A dm −2 and t  = 40–60 min was the optimal operating parameters for the excellent anti-corrosion properties of Ni–W/TiN nanocomposites. The embedded TiN in Ni–W matrix could fill defects then improve its corrosion resistance . This electrodeposited Ni–W/TiN nanocomposites possess excellent hardness and superior corrosion resistance , and is expected to be applied in aggressive environment as a protective coating.

Visual colorimetric detection of tin(II) and nitrite using a molybdenum oxide nanomaterial-based three-input logic gate

Du Jiayan,Zhao Mengxin,Huang Wei,Deng Yuequan,He Yi

We report a molybdenum oxide (MoO 3 ) nanomaterial-based three-input logic gate that uses Sn 2+ , NO 2 − , and H + ions as inputs. Under acidic conditions, Sn 2+ is able to reduce MoO 3 nanosheets, generating oxygen-vacancy-rich MoO 3− x nanomaterials along with strong localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) and an intense blue solution as the output signal. When NO 2 − is introduced, the redox reaction between the MoO 3 nanosheets and Sn 2+ is strongly inhibited because the NO 2 − consumes both H + and Sn 2+ . The three-input logic gate was employed for the visual colorimetric detection of Sn 2+ and NO 2 − under different input states. The colorimetric assay’s limit of detection for Sn 2+ and the lowest concentration of NO 2 − detectable by the assay were found to be 27.5 nM and 0.1 μM, respectively. The assay permits the visual detection of Sn 2+ and NO 2 − down to concentrations as low as 2 μM and 25 μM, respectively. The applicability of the logic-gate-based colorimetric assay was demonstrated by using it to detect Sn 2+ and NO 2 − in several water sources.

3D Porous Tin Created by Tuning the Redox Potential Acts as an Advanced Electrode for Sodium-Ion Batteries

Liubin Wang,Youxuan Ni,Kaixiang Lei,Huanhuan Dong,Sen Tian,Fujun Li

Graphical Give us a tune : 3D porous Sn on Cu foil (Sn/Cu) is prepared by tuning the redox potential of Cu + /Cu with a ligand of thiourea to trigger the replacement reaction between Cu and Sn 2+ . The resultant full battery of Sn/Cu//Na 3 (VO 0.5 ) 2 (PO 4 ) 3 F 2 delivers a high energy density of 311.7 Wh kg −1 with a long lifespan of 200 cycles. Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have attracted significant research interest for large-scale electric energy storage. However, anodes with good rate capability and long cycle life are still lacking. Here, a three-dimensional (3D) porous Sn on Cu foil (Sn/Cu) is prepared by tuning the redox potential of Cu + /Cu with a ligand of thiourea to trigger the replacement reaction between Cu and Sn 2+ . The as-synthesized Sn/Cu is used as an integrated porous electrode and can be directly applied as an advanced freestanding electrode for SIBs. Such a unique structure can efficiently relieve the strain caused by sodiation/desodiation and benefit penetration of the electrolyte and diffusion of Na + . This is a merit of its large reversible capacity of about 700 mAh g −1 at 2500 mA g −1 for 400 cycles. A full battery of Sn/Cu//Na 3 (VO 0.5 ) 2 (PO 4 ) 3 F 2 is constructed, which presents a high energy density of 311.7 Wh kg −1 and long lifespan of 200 cycles. This facile synthesis strategy and good electrochemical performance will encourage more investigations into structure design of functional materials.

Barium titanate as a filler for improving the dielectric property of cyanoethyl cellulose/antimony tin oxide nanocomposite films

Chao Jia,Ziqiang Shao,Haoyu Fan,Rui Feng,Feijun Wang,Wenjun Wang,Jianquan Wang,Dalun Zhang,Yanyan Lv

CEC/ATO and CEC/BTO/ATO nanocomposite films were fabricated by introducing barium titanate (BTO) and antimony tin oxide (ATO) in cyanoethyl cellulose (CEC) via simple solution blending technique. The morphology, microstructure, thermal stability, mechanical, optical and dielectric properties of the nanocomposite films were investigated. The results indicated that CEC/BTO/ATO nanocomposite films possessed better dielectric property and mechanical property compared with CEC/ATO nanocomposite films. This could be ascribed to the homogeneous dispersion of ATO in CEC matrix due to the introduction of BTO. The nanocomposite films with only ATO nanoparticles had a certain optical transmissibility. In addition, all the nanocomposite films possessed better thermal stability than CEC polymer.

Enhanced photovoltaic performances of the dye-sensitized solar cell by utilizing rare-earth modified tin oxide compact layer

Jingyi Yue,Yaoming Xiao,Yanping Li,Gaoyi Han,Ying Zhang,Wenjing Hou

Multifunctional and ultrathin tin oxide (SnO 2 ) compact layer is modified by europium ion doped ytterbium fluoride (YbF 3 :Eu 3+ ), which is first designed and fabricated by a facile spin-coating method for the dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC). The device with SnO 2 /YbF 3 :Eu 3+ compact layer exhibits enhanced long-term stability and photoelectric conversion efficiency (PCE) compared to those of the device without compact layer. The enhanced long-term stability is due to the SnO 2 /YbF 3 :Eu 3+ compact layer can transform ultraviolet (UV) light into visible light to mitigate dye degradation . The enhanced PCE is associated with the reduced recombination rate of electrons, the enhanced short-wavelength light response, and the high transparency of the compact layer. Moreover, the novel strategy of preparation SnO 2 /YbF 3 :Eu 3+ compact layer is an universal method to adjust rare-earth species to achieve up- or down-conversion functions, and the multifunctional compact layer can be widely applied in the photovoltaic device .

Continuous electroreduction of carbon dioxide to formate on Tin nanoelectrode using alkaline membrane cell configuration in aqueous medium

Tao Lei,Xia Zhang,Joey Jung,Yixiao Cai,Xiaofan Hou,Qi Zhang,Jinli Qiao

Using electrochemical reduction to convert CO 2 into useful small molecule fuels represents a value-added approach to the simultaneous generation of alternative fuels and environmental remediation of carbon emissions from the continued use of conventional fuels. Here, we report a novel flow cell design for CO 2 electroreduction. The alkaline ion-exchange membranes are used to separate anolyte from aqueous catholyte, and the commercial Sn particles are deposited over a carbon support, which serves as the cathode. Various influence factors on the electrochemical reduction of gaseous CO 2 into fuel are investigated, including a selection of different alkaline-exchange membranes, time duration of the electrolysis, current density and flow rate of electrolyte on the produced formate as a target fuel. Three alkaline membranes (A901, FAD and Yichen) and an acidic membrane (Naffion 117) are used. The maximum Faradaic Efficiencies (FE) of formate formation are 82.8% (Yichen), 79.2% (A901) and 90.1% (FAD), which are comparable to and even higher than that of Nafion 117 membrane (89.2%). In particular, the FAD alkaline membrane showed an applicable prospect with cell voltage of 2.85   V, lower than when using Nafion 117 membrane. We also successfully achieve the formate production rate over 1.47   mmol   m −2   s −1 at a working current density of 50   mA   cm −2 over 60   min continuous’ operation, allowing the formate concentration up to 1.9   g   L −1 . These encouraging results reveal that different ion-exchange membranes have obvious impact on the electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (ERC).

Interaction between indium tin oxide nanoparticles and cytochrome c: A surface-enhanced Raman scattering and absorption spectroscopic study

Yang Yimin,Du Deyang,Kong Fan,Fan Jiyang,Qiu Teng

Indium-tin-oxide (ITO) nanoparticles were annealed in vacuum or reducing atmosphere to obtain different surface structures and investigate their influence on the adsorptive character and conformation of cytochrome c (Cyt c ) molecule. Annealing-induced morphometric or structural changes of ITO nanoparticles were characterized by instruments of transmission electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, and Raman scattering. Semiconductor ITO nanoparticle-enhanced Raman scattering of Cyt c was observed and the enhanced efficiency was found to closely depend on the surface structures which control the adsorbance of buffer anions needed for Cyt c loading. Direct electron transfer between Cyt c and ITO surface at the moment of molecular elastic collision was found and a reverse electron transfer process for O-terminated surface and metal-terminated surface was observed, according to absorption spectroscopic measurement on the residual solution.
